Safari Doesn't Recognize Symantec VIP Plugin

Our company uses Symantec VIP for authentication.  I've just installed a fresh instance of Mac OS Mavericks and setting things up.  I've tried to install the Symantec plugin, but Safari doesn't recognize it.  It continually asks me to reinstall, but nothing.  In Firefox it works fine.
Any ideas why Safari wouldn't recognize this?  Driving me nuts.

  • Safari doesn't recognize latest upload into iPhoto since installing 10.6

I use a website that requires me to upload photos. However, ever since I foolishly installed Snow Leopard Safari doesn't recognize the latest photos in iPhoto until after I close and re-open Safari. Indeed, sometimes that doesn't even work. Any ideas, or is Snow Leopard Apple's ME and no hope for a solution?

I suggest you back up your Mac, then use Software Update (in the preferences window) to install the update.
Interesting. I get better results with the Combo updaters:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048
(.. and I run Disk Utility -> Repair Permissions after every software install or update.)

  • Safari doesn't recognize http addresses

    When I input:
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov
to safari, I get the error message:
Safari can’t open “http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “http:”.
Huh? firefox had no problems opening the page.

Thanks for the response. Two questions:
    1. I should know this, but it's been a long time, how do I create a new account? I know the account manager will allow to designate the new account as an admin.
    2. Why is a new account needed?

  • Photoshop CS4 doesn't recognize camera raw plugin on yosemite

    Hi there,
I've been using Photoshop CS4 with the camera raw plugin for many years without issue. I recently got a new computer with Yosemite and when I installed PsCS4 it no longer worked with RAW files (5D mkii). I just tried downloading the newest version of the camera raw plugin, but Photoshop doesn't seem to recognize it. What can I do?

The “latest version of camera raw” would be ACR 8.7.1 and that is only compatible with PS-CS6 or newer.
PS-CS4 would probably install with ACR 5.0 but the 5D Mark II needs at least ACR 5.2.  The latest version of ACR you can install for PS-CS4 is ACR 5.7 which may be what you had on your old computer.
The usual way to update your Camera Raw plug-in would be to do PS / Help / Updates and let it check to see what is available, so try that.
I am not sure if that process still works, but you’re in luck because Adobe was still putting links to their installers on the website back in the CS4 era, so you should be able to download an installer and run it to get ACR 5.7 installed, from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106 <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintosh> &platform=Macintosh
It’s possible that something in the newest OS will prevent this installer from working, of course, but at least try.
You can check what version of the ACR plug-in you have installed by doing PS / About Plug-in / Camera Raw

  • Safari doesn't recognize flash on macbook air

Since upgrading to Mavricks 10.9.2 everytime I go to a website that runs flash I am asked to install.  HBOGO, netflix, youtube.  It is telling me that I need to download and install the newest version.  I've installed it twice, with no luck.
    Any advice?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or reboot before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
    Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
    Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
    Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • After new OS update Safari doesn't recognize Flash Player.

After updating to OS 10.9.4, Safari says "No Flash Player detected" when I try to run several of my web based programs even though I have no problem with the same web based programs when using Firefox. Additionally, this issue only exists when using the administrator account. There is no problem when using my other account set up for my students.

If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.

              When visiting other websites

  • Problems with flash. Safari doesn't recognize that I'm up to date.

This problem just started happening around time I updated to mountain lion. Can't play any flash videos because it says my version of flash is out of date. Prompts me to adobe's website where I downloaded latest version of flash. System preferences confirms I have latest version of flash. Still won't let me play any videos on safari and says the exact same thing.

Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab. Click: Delete All
You may have the latest version installed, but follow the instructions for uninstalling any prior versions here >   Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • Safari doesn't recognize that I have OSX 10.5.5

Yes the latest version of Safari will not install on my machine because it thinks that I have less than OSX 10.4, when in fact I have 10.5.5. Have any idea why this is going on? Thanks!

The current Safari version is included with your version of Mac OS X; if you need to install or reinstall it, use the original disks followed by the combo updater.

  • Safari doesn't recognize & encoded in iframe src

I'm trying to render in an iframe a page that allows authentication to be sent as part of the URL, but I can't get Safari 4 Beta (10.5.7) to properly escape (or unescape) the '&' required to separate the parameters I'm passing as part of the URL. I've pasted two code snippets, neither of which work, but both work fine in Firefox. Can I change the code, is there better XHTML to be using?
    <iframe src="https://www.visualcoaching.com/login.ashx?user=[email protected]&pas sword=passwd&branding=off">
    <iframe src="https://www.visualcoaching.com/login.ashx?user=[email protected]&amp ;password=passwd&amp;branding=off">
In both cases, I get the login page of the visualcoaching.com site, not the page I'm supposed to see after authenticating. When I check the page source in Safari I see both '&' and '& amp;' rendered as '& amp;' (without the space) in the iframe tag, which is not working when it comes to logging in. Any suggestions?

There may be a problem with the banking website and not your system.
For example Chase has had tons of problems with log ons or downloads using Safari even the newest versions and in both OS 10.3 and 10.4.x. Chase claims that they are not Safari compatible so I and other users had to resort to Netscape. This may not be your problem, but Chase and Apples. If this is the problem then it is clearly lousy support from Chase and your bank, as many other banking sites such as Wells Fargo, BofA and MBNA manage to play well with Safari!

  • Safari doesn't recognize silverlight

I go to silverlightversion.com and I get nothing but zeroes
Chrome and Firefox all list the version installed. I need silverlight on safri to run a company application. Any ideas?

With SilverLight, Microsoft attempted to create their own version of what a replacement for Flash could be - but not to universal acclaim. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards) if you are using a PPC Mac, but even this will not work with Safari 4. Version 2 only works with Intel Macs and does work with Safari 4/5. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:
    http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.htm
But the latest news is that Microsoft will probably abandon Silverlight in favour of HTML5:
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/10/29/apples_ios_pushes_microsoft_to_dia l_down_silverlight_for_html5.html  and
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11673384
If you want to remove Silverlight the instructions are here:

  • Safari 1.24 (OS X 10.3.8) doesn't recognize "disabled" attribute

In Safari 1.24 (OS X 10.3.8), Safari doesn't recognize "disabled" attribute when the input type="password". It works correctly when the input type="text". Is there any work around this issue ? Upgrading to newer Safari is not the answer I'm looking for.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
If it's a bug in Safari's handling of the input element, then no there's nothing you can do to get around it.
What are you trying to achieve? If you explain your aims maybe someone could offer an alternative solution.

When I try to open a domain like "mydomain.direct" Safari opens google search, but if I try to open "www.mydomain.direct" the website opens ok. Safari also doesn't open 3rd domains like "something.mydomain.direct" and sends me to google search.

    Hi,
In my Safari preferences I have "Open pages in tabs instead of windows" set to "Never".
When Safari has at least one window that is not in full screen mode, then links from other applications seem to open new windows perfectly fine.
However, when all Safari windows that are open are in full screen mode, then links keep opening in tabs in on of those windows.

  • Cannot open CS6, it craves JBX-plugin, and my Mac doesn't recognize the file so I can't download

I wonder why CS6 is not complete when downloaded? Why should I have to download JBX? If needed it should be a part of Indesign. My Mac doesn't have a name of a file to open and download, so now I simply don't have CS6 and can't convert my book to Kindle for sales on Amazon.
    Terribly disappointed!

  • CS5 Doesn't Recognize File - Plugins

I have Tiffen Dfx 2 and all it installed was a .plugin file to my photoshop folder. CS5 has never accepted the .plugin files for me. I figured most of that software wasn't usable in CS5 like some old Alien Skin products, but now with Dfx not installing I know somethings up. It's the 64 bit version and I've tried running it in 32 bit and 64. Why do I get that error message that Photoshop doesn't recognize the file.
    Many Thanks,
    Ben

Read the installation instructions that came with your plug-ins again.
One DOES NOT install a plug-in by double-clicking on its icon.  You install it by putting the plug-in in the appropriate plug-in folder and then launching Photoshop.
