Safari/Google issue

Hi, running a Macbook with 10.5.2 Safari will no longer resolve www.google.com. It will find it via an IP address, but not a web address. Firefox & Camino have no problems finding Google.
Any thoughts? No new router. ISP or anything. Just stopped working

Doh, my bad, I had my JavaScript unselected in the Safari preferences.
I'd turned it off while testing something else.
Yep, I'm seeing the same problem again now. At least we know a way to get around it for the time being
According to one of the other threads Google are aware of the problem and looking into it.

I have just got an iMac 21" and it continuously freezes when it goes to sleep and also when the internet is trying to load, i have tried three different browsers but it still does it (safari, google chrome and firefox), does anyone know what is wrong?

To fix the freezing when sleeping problem go to System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'Computer Sleep' to 'Never'. It seems there is a problem for some with Bluetooth failing to wake after sleep. This fixes it 100% for me and many others on here, until Apple issue a software update to address it.
Not sure what to suggest on the internet problem. I assume you are connected and receive and send emails OK.
Edit: To try to troubleshoot the internet issue maybe try turning the Firewall off: System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Firewall tab.

  • I can see my account usages by Safari, Google Crome and MozillaFireFox 3.6 version but not by upgrading latest Mozilla version. Why is it so?

When I open http:/selfcare.ndc.bsnl.co.in to check account usages,a page opens" Welcome to customer care portal. After login this page with ID and password, another page Sap Netweaver Portal opens. On this page I can check my account usages only with Safari, Google Crome and Mozilla3.6 version.Upgraded version on this page shows a message" Sorry your Browser/ Programme is not supported by Web Dynpro.

It sounds like the website incorrectly sees the latest version of Firefox as version 1 instead of 10. These instructions might help you workaround the problem https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues#w_websites-say-i-need-to-update-firefox-but-im-on-the-latest-version
That said, the website appears to not have been updated in many years and still recommends users to use Internet Explorer 6. You might try contacting them to let them know about the issue but it also may be easier to just use Internet Explorer for this site.

  • Safari-Google auto fill

    Hi everyone.
While I am in Safari>Google I start typing in the search window and a bunch of previously type words show up under the search window. Is there anyway to clear the list that pops up?
I went to settings>safari and cleared cookies, cache, and history to no avail.
Is this a google pref thing?

been searching for naughty things have you?...
    i do it like so;
    go on to safari
then press the little book at the bottom of the screen
    then go into history
then press clear in the bottom left hand corner.
    works for me

  • Safari ios7 issues on iPad Air - can't open new tabs - + sign closes app

Safari ios7 issues on iPad Air - can't open new tabs or view other tabs.
The + sign just closes the app every single time!
In some cases, the back and forward buttons don't work.
It's driving me crazy becuase if the webpage I'm on opens and ad or tab that I don't want to look at, I can't close it and go back, I have to retype the web address in and find where I was on the site!

I, too, tried all the fixes...nothing worked.
Found another thread on this forum and looks like a lot of us are having same problem.
Next time it happens, go to SETTINGS/GENERAL/ABOUT and check to see it there is a "low memory" incident report.
    If there is:
See the discussion thread "iPad Air Low Memory Crashes".
Seems to be common....this could turn into a HUGH issue.

  • Changing Safari Google to co.uk?

UK user of Snow Leopard and Safari however, whenever i do a google search its pointless as its not the .co.uk.
Is there anyway i can change the Safari google search to google.co.uk?
    Thanks

    Hi There,
Apple hasn't built in a way to change the default search engine. However it is possible.
You could install the glims add on for Safari which allows search engine customization: http://www.machangout.com/
There is also a hint on Mac OS X hints about changing the search engine to google.co.uk: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2009032004345842
    Hope this helps

  • Why is safari google search requiring authentication?

The safari google function on my iPad w/OSX6 keeps asking for a user name and password. I ave no ideas what they are asking for. Google search using Safari is useless now. So sorry I downloaded OSX6 now.....is there a fix for this?

    Pster wrote:
Exactly! Not at all understanding why poster clkuan  doesn't get it.....
First of all, you got all the terms wrong and now you said I don't get it?
Now, for the last time, you don't need a userid & password doing a search in Google unless you want to log in to some paid web sites.  I just try that to check.
And, I don't find much here in this forum similar to your case.
It still happens even after Apple gave me a new iPad!!! They seemed to know exactly what I was saying and all about the problem but would not disclose to me why it was happening...they just gave me a new  iPad. Problem is still there.
"They seem to know", how can you tell?
What I also don't understand is that, you go all the way to an Apple Store and they gave you a new iPad. You went home without checking whether your problem is solved?
Now try this, Settings > Safari > Private Browsing: OFF, Accept Cookies : From visited is selected.
Tap Clear History & Clear Cookies and Data.
Make sure and the rest of the options are ON.
Double tab Home button and delete Safari form multitask bar.
Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

Applications :: Unable To Use Safari / Google Safe Browsing Service Unavailable

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.

  • IPad 2 safari google search error

until recently when i try to search using safari google search bar, instead of the search result, i am shown with this error message
    We're sorry...
... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.
See Google Help for more information.
i have to clear cookie in the safari settings to get it work, but only for one search, after that the same error repeats.
    help please! thanks a lot.

It would be nice, rbi, if you actually tried the app prior to commenting.  This problem just showed up, just today. It has nothing to do with flash, it is the image search for google for crying out loud. It is some sort of change with google and it *****. Perhaps it is their way of forcing iPad users to use their crappy app. Great. Thanks. Another good experience ruined by the lame politics between corporations. I am sure that some idiot mid level executive is very proud of themselves right now.

  • TRY OPEN DNS OR GOOGLE'S NAMEBENCH TO RESOLVE SAFARI 5 ISSUES

    HI,
2 DAYS AGO, I EXPERIENCED ALL THE PROBLEMS YOU GUYS ARE HAVING WITH THE SAFARI 5 UPGRADE. I THEN SAW A POST ABOUT OPEN DNS CODES CLICKED ON THE ARTICLE ABOUT IT AND PLUGGED IN THE APPROPRIATE NUMBERS. HAS WORKED FINE SINCE. SOMEONE ELSE POSTED ABOUT DNS CODES AND USING GOOGLE'S NAMEBENCH WHICH I HAVEN'T TRIED SINCE THE INTERNET SPEED I AM AT CURRENTLY SUFFICES. HERE IS THE LINK FOR GOOGLE'S NAMEBENCH FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO DOWNLOAD IT: http://code.google.com/p/namebench/ USING THE OPEN DNS RESOLVED ALL ISSUES THAT SAFARI 5 HAD WHEN I UPGRADED. WORKS FINE AND I HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. HERE'S THE ARTICLE EXPLAINING OPEN DNS: http://appletoolbox.com/2010/06/safari-5-0-hangs-while-loading-pages-fix/

No, that link doesn't work but the information is correct!
Adding DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
(An explanation of why using Open DNS is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:

    Hi John:
Have you contacted Charter? Sometimes web programmers do not realize there are other browsers around. FWIW, I also have a rare problem with Safari not playing well with a site. I do exactly what you have done and use an alternate browser (Firefox as well).
I have had success in contacting the tech support people of a particular problem web site. They sometimes recognize the problem and subsequently apply a fix.
