Safari not handling Javascript correctly

I am currently trying to learn how to put Javascript into web pages by reading through the tutorial at http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp
However it seems that Safari is not handling the Javascript correctly when it loads some of the examples:
http://www.w3schools.com/js/tryit.asp?filename=tryjs_confirm
http://www.w3schools.com/js/tryit.asp?filename=tryjs_prompt
However they load correctly in FireFox.
Why?
Is there something I can do to get Safari to handle the Javascript correctly?
Or is there a document somewhere describing how Safari handles Javascrip so that I know how to change the Javascript so that it loads correctly in Safari?

Okay, I click the button labeled "Display a confirm box" on http://www.w3schools.com/js/tryit.asp?filename=tryjs_confirm
A Dialog box appears and I click "OK".
In Safari the button labeled "Display a confirm box" dissapears.
In FireFox the button labeled "Display a confirm box" dissapears and is replaced with "You pressed OK!"
Similarly, in the second example, Safari just get's rid of the button, where FireFox replaces it with the appropriate text.

  • Why is Safari not showing pages correctly ?

    Hi there !
    I'm having a little Safari 5 trouble.
Safari is not showing page layouts correctly, it seems it is not recognizing / reading css at all. Not one site shows correctly !
Whereas Firefox has no problem at all.
On Safari, I had diverse small extensions and Glims (but I had those for a while and nothing like this ever happened - only the occasional crash).
Also, I tried reinstalling Safari entirely. No change.
What do you think can be causing this ?

    HI and welcome.......
If you still have Glims the latest build is available here.
    http://wiki.machangout.com/howdoi/glims-development-build
As for the extensions, go to Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Turn that OFF. Quit Safari (Command + Q) Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference.
Try resetting Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
If nothing above has helped, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari loads pages as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

  • Safari not saving mpegs correctly

I have Tiger with 10.4.2 and I cannot save mpeg movies to my hard drive, QUICKTIME DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THEM. I also cant just click and "save as" because the option is not there. I have to use Opera (which works alot better in most all respects) or Firefox just be able to save movies that my Apple product with Apple Safari does not??

I'm having a similar problem, and ControlOptionclick doesn't solve it. I've just discovered that I've been having this problem for several months.
For a long time I could just hit Command+S and everything worked fine. I just discovered, however, that everything I've saved for the past couple of months either says it's a format Quicktime doesn't recognize, or it opens in Quicktime but only plays about a half second of black . . . no content.
I tried the ControlOptionclick method and get exactly the same results.
I found that I CAN save the mpeg by dragging the mpeg to my desktop, but I just gives it the generic title "Movie Clipping 1." For example, right now I'm trying to save a file called "Steve Martin Napkin Trick,." If I save it with Command+S or ControlOptionS, a file by that name (and with the QT movie icon) appears on my desktop. However, if I try to open that file it doesn't have any content. If I just drag the mpeg to my desktop, I get a QT movie file called "Movie Clipping 1" which plays back correctly.
Dragging to the desktop functions as a work around, but it's a bit of a pain having to rename each file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Safari not displaying pages correctly after upgrade to Mavericks

Hi, I just upgraded my macbook pro (mid 2010) to Mavericks and safari now displays web pages as if I was really zoomed in. When I load a page I will see it correctly for a second and it will then zoom in (no amount of pinch on my trackpad solves the problem). I can cmd - a few times to get it back to a normal display size, but I need to do it for every tab I open. When I open chrome, everything displays properly. Any Idea on what could cause this problem? Thx in advance
Sorry if I am not posting to the right forum, kinda new here

Try holding the control key and using a 2 finger swipe up or down (direction depends on how you have the track pad set) and see if you may inadvertently done zoom from this, it is different from a pinch zoom

  • Safari not displaying pages correctly...

I have a new iMac with two accounts on it. One for my wife and one for me. On my account, safari works fine regardless of the website. However on my wife's account safari, cuts off some of the content and some of the text appear to be too large for the frames. In both accounts the safari's settings are set to default and are identical. The only difference that I can figure out is that my account is the admin, and my wife's isn't. The error does not happen on all webpages, just a couple here and there. I have changed her over to firefox for the time being, but it is bugging me that I cannot figure out what is going on. Any help is sincerely appreciated.
    Thank you.

If your wife added fonts to her /Users/herhome/Library/Fonts folder, that could be the problem.
If that's the case, have her remove them.
Also she could do the following:
    1) Quit all open applications.
    2) Delete the fonts caches with FontNuke +(or with whatever utility you normally use)+
    FontNuke <http://www.jamapi.com/pr/fn/>
    3) Restart
    4) Open the Font Book->Edit menu 'Select All' fonts - from the File menu select 'Validate Fonts'
from the Edit menu select 'Resolve Duplicates'
    Good luck,

  • Safari not displaying swfs correctly

My web site consists of Flash swf files embedded in html pages.
If I have the Address Bar hidden while loading, for ex, my index page and then try to bring up the Address Bar, its swf does not move down with the rest of the window contents, so it blocks the Address Bar. The only way out is to quit and restart Safari.
This did not happen with the previous version of Safari. I don't know who is at fault, Apple or Adobe/Macromedia. I don't really care, but this is really annoying.

  • Align Object not handling text correctly?

When I align a line of text and a rectangle vertically, it's not properly centered visually. I have "Use Preview Bounds" turned on.
In this screenshot, both blue squares are the same size. Illustrator obviously thinks this is mathematically centered., but it is incorrect visually. What is Illustrator evaluating in the text line that makes this centering error (there are no descenders)?
Any tips for quickly getting visually correct centered text within a box?

    Navarro,
    You may:
    1) Tick Edit>Preferences>General>Use Preview Bounds;
    2) Select the Type and Effect>Path>Outline Object.
That will reduce the Bounding Box to the actual bounds of the letters, and keep the Type editable.
Remember to untick Edit>Preferences>General>Use Preview Bounds before you get a reverse issue.

  • Safari not displaying websites correctly

I bought a new Mac Mini yesterday, The Mac updated itself, there was a long list of different items it needed to download and update. After restarting the Mac, I opened Safari and clicked through a few websites, the websites first display as though they have been zoomed into, then when I try to scroll down the page the images and text go out of sync and into each other basically overlapping each other. I am using a vga through a converter, the desktop and other items seem full screen and fine, its only Safari which seems to display websites as zoomed in which if scrolled on will make items overlap each other. I have a 26inch LCD TV.
Is there any solution to this?
Also when using Safari the Icons dock appears below, its annoying becuase it limits amount of viewing space I have, In Windows XP/Vista you a Windows Bar at the bottom, which is fine becuase its small, is there a way to shrink the Icons dock or to make it disappear when using Safari and then to reappear after use?

Can you post a screenshot of what you see? (You can use a free hosting site such as www.imageshack.us to upload the picture to.)
is there a way to shrink the Icons dock or to make it disappear when using Safari and then to reappear after use?
You can shrink the icons by grabbing the dividing line (towards the trash can) and dragging it down (or up to increase the icon size). Alternatively, cmdoptd will hide/show the Dock.

  • Mail not handling Fonts correctly?

    Hi all.
For some reason whenever I send mail to someone using Outlook, on there side it changes my default font to something else. I notice this when they respond, it different then what I have it set as.
Any ideas? Is it something Outlook is doing?
I have it set in Mail to Verdana, but Outlook is seeing it as Times New Roman.
    Thanks.

Are you sending HTML email, and is the person using Outlook sending you HTML email? If that's what they're sending, the font specified in their HTML will be used instead of the one you chose, as long as that font is available. The same would be true for HTML email they received from you.
If this isn't what you're doing, we need more details.

  • "Square" node doesn't handle units correctly

It appears that the x^2 node does not handle units correctly.  If the input units are m for example, the output units should be m^2, but are actually m.  This seems like a bug.  Can someone confirm this?

    smercurio_fc wrote:
The Square primitive (as other primitives) only operates on the number, not the unit. This isn't a bug, but just the way it works, and it makes sense since some operations don't translate for physical units. For example, let's say you use the Square Root. What's the proper unit for the square root of the unit "meter"?
The proper unit would be sqrt(m).  I am in agreement with the poster.  If NI allows a transaction on a unit, it should modify the units properly.  If it can't then it should not allow values with units to be input into the function.  There are several primitives and functions which restrict access.  If the multiplying two numbers with units m results in m^2, then the x^2 primitive should too.
If I am doing calculations, I should expect the units to be handled correctly if LabVIEW's primitives and functions allow me to use them with units.

  • Safari not rendering a page correctly

A webpage I created in Dreamweaver uses drop down menus that are supposed to display just to the left of the link they drop from. In all other browsers they work correctly, but since the latest upgrade in Safari to 3.0.4 as a part of OS 10.4.11 on my Macbook, they are not rendering correctly. Instead they are appearing much further to the left where it's difficult to move the cursor to them before they disappear. Until I changed the color of the drop downs they were disappearing into the background. Any ideas why Safari is not rendering them correctly? I'd like to keep Safari as my primary browser, but if it won't render my own page correctly, what other pages might it be messing up? Address of the page is http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/woottonhs/ The drop downs are connected to the central column list that has small arrows beside the words. They will probably work correctly for you, but won't for me in Safari. What can I do to fix it?
    Thanks,
    KWolfrey

    Hi,
I'm running 10.4.11 with Safari 3.0.4 and as far as I can see the menus seem to work just fine here.
Do you have a custom stylesheet set in Safaris advanced preferences? (Some Safari enhancer applications set one even if you didn't manually set one so double check to make sure.)
    Also, do you use PithHelmet?
One quick test you can do to help narrow down things is to try Safari in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> \[+\] to create a test one (and \[-\] to remove it if needed)
Lastly, I doubt these [errors|http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.montgomeryschoolsmd. org%2Fschools%2Fwoottonhs%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&g roup=0] have anything to do with your problem since it seems to work fine for me, but you might want to look into them at some point.

  • SAFARI NOT WORKING CORRECTLY ON iPhone

Does anyone else have a problem with Safari not displaying a web page correctly on iPhone? I have a web site that displays correctly if I use Safari on my PC, but changes the colors in the page header on the iPhone.

    Tap Settings > Safari
Tap to clear History, Cookies, and Data
    Then reset your iPhone.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Safari is not loading pages correctly or even not at all. Help please!

So my Safari is not loading pages correctly, making some have just plain text with no images, and others partially loaded with no images or no video.
Some pages, after trying to refresh, completely refuse to load and say that Safari can't find the server. These pages work on firefox, which is also on the same computer and what I am having to use to type this currently.
I have already reset Safari, as well as disabled extensions (which I didn't have any) and neither has fixed the issue.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
