Safari Not Scrolling Properly

I am having problems on both my MacBook Pro and mac mini 2011 since the update.  Safari is unusable on both.  If I attempt to scroll with my pad it mangles the page into many different segments.  I have had to switch to Chrome and Firefox.....not good.  Anyone else having this issue.

  • Ipod touch will not scroll properly

My ipod touch will not scroll properly and when I try to click on something it does not open the thing I wanted it to. Is there any way for me to fix this? It's a 4th gen.

First, you may have the accessibility VoiceOver feature or another one turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn them off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:
iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)
    Next try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Swipe between pages in Safari not working properly

Lion works perfectly so far, the only known issue I have is that Gesture in Safari to go Back or Forward does not work properly: Swipe between pages (Scroll left or right with two fingers).
it means I see the previous page under the actual page, but the task would not complete and it's like something blocking it to turn the pages. I hope you understand what I am saying. Anyone with the same bug? Any solution?
I've restored safari, cleaned the history and Reset it, restart computer, unselected the gesture option in Preference and activate it again, with no luck.

I've had the same problem as feri.  Dylanksf described the behaviour best - when two-finger swiping forward and back in Safari, the page moves slightly to the side, then acts as if it "catches" on something before moving further.  The result is it's nearly impossible to swipe back and forward (although the 3-finger swipe still works).  I don't have Flexiglass installed.
Usually I'm able to solve the problem by doing the following:  (1) open system preferences and select "Trackpad"; (2) go to the "More Gestures" pane; (3) toggle the "Swipe between pages" checkmark and settings; (4) put the settings back to how you want them.
On some occasions, however, this doesn't seem to work.  In that case, go back to the main System Preferences panel, choose "Universal Access", select the "Mouse & Trackpad" pane, and click on "Trackpad Options...".  Then toggle the checkmark beside "Scrolling" off and back on, and make sure scrolling is set to "with inertia".  This managed to solve my problem when the method above didn't work, and also resolved an issue I was having where the scroll bars were failing to automatically disappear when using the magic trackpad.

  • Logicool mouse not scrolling properly after clean install

I decided to refresh my Macbook Pro this weekend, and since then, my Logicool T631 hasn't been scrolling properly.  Before the wipe, everything was fine, and there has been no damage to the mouse.  My preferences all seem to be in order.  Does anyone know what happened?  May be unrelated, but the mouse also seemed to pair itself with my freshly mindwiped machine, and worked from the jump without me pushing any buttons or inputting any codes.
For example, vertical scrolling is currently horizontally moving the page.  More often, simple scrolling barely moves at all, then jumps the page all the way to the bottom, or close to it, using the same motion.

Try resetting the PRAM......other than that, I have no thoughts.

  • Safari not scrolling to bottom of webpage

I have noticed that safari seems to stop allowing scroll down to the bottom of some web pages - no apparent rhyme or reason, but the side scroll bar refuses to let it scroll beyond a certain point - often cutting off pictures and/or text. Has anyone else seen this? and if so, is there a fix?
    Thanks

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, if you are running Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, try 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
If Safari still crashes, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari.

  • Safari 5.0.4 - 'Reset Safari' not working properly?

I've been noticing recently that resetting Safari doesn't seem to work properly. I will reset Safari at least once a day, usually more. Then I will go on a website I haven't been on for days and I'll still be logged in, or I'll go another website that I haven't been on for a week and it will show a previous search I've done, and so on. I don't understand why as this never used to happen, I don't have any sites added to a safe 'don't clear history' list or anything like that. I have all boxes on the reset screen checked and always have done. I haven't updated anything recently so can't imagine what may have caused this. Also I have a new IP address every day so it shouldn't be that sites are recognising me from that. Any ideas what I can do about this?

I have 5.0.3 installed; my reason for coming to Discussions today is to check whether folks are having any issues with 5.0.4 before I install it.
I've noticed that storage of Cookies acts strangely in 5.0.3. You can't clear Cookies permanently (via Safari/Preferences/Show Cookies). They come back from the dead. Even with 'Never accept cookies' checked a Google Cookie is installed in next to no time. This never used to happen with 3.2.1 (I routinely cleared Cookies in this way and they stayed dead).
There was discussion about this in the thread, "Safari removed cookies reappear"
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13054062#13054062
After reading this page "Create Safari cookies that expire after each session" http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20031026012426123, I posted this comment in that thread:
I decided to remove all Cookies out of Cookies.plist via Reset Safari.
I ticked only 'Remove all cookies' in the Reset Safari pane then clicked 'Reset'.
The Cookie.plist 'Date Modified' changed to the time of this operation, so I presume Cookies were removed. (I should have checked file size before and after, but didn't think of this until after, currently it is 4KB.)
I returned to Cookies.plist 'Get Info' and locked the file.
    This technique has worked well.
No Cookies are stored permanently in Cookies.plist
I just checked and Cookies.plist Date Modified is 08/02/2011 with 4KB File Size, so the File hasn't changed since I posted that comment on the other thread.
So Cookies are installed only for the duration of the Safari session. I often quit Safari on purpose during a session just to clear all Cookies before I, say, login to email.
I'm not tech savvy, so not sure if you could consider locking the .plist file for History or some other file as a way to work around Safari's latest quirk.
I don't like losing History and Cache (I find the different coloured icons of websites useful when selecting in Bookmarks lists; the icons all go with Reset Cache).
For login details, I have deselected the AutoFill option in Safari Preferences pane so no passwords are stored in the Keychain. This prevents Safari from remembering any login details, so I suspect that would overcome your problem with subsequent unwanted login to sites, but you lose the convenience of having details autofilled when you want to login somewhere. I don't mind, it helps to keep my brain cells working (remembering).

  • Captivate 7 web object not scrolling properly iPad multiscreen.html

I have a Captivate 7 project published as both SWF and HTML5. The project is to be deployed via an LMS using multiscreen.html.
The issue that I have is that I have a web object that requires scrolling but when I view multiscreen.html on my iPad I am required to scroll horizontally with my finger to achieve vertical scrolling of my web object, any attempt to scroll vertically just causes the web bouce effect in Safari. If I view the project via index.html on my iPad, scrolling works as expected with vertical scrolling behaving properly and no web bounce.
It seems as though multiscreen.html is getting the orientation of the device confused but that's just a guess. Has anyone else encountered this and if so, do they have a workaround that they can share please?
    Many thanks.

I've found that updating the file called 'Widget_40080.htm' with the highlighted section in the following image fixes the scrolling issue on iPad.

  • Links to safari not working properly -- safari doesn't display page on top

I just did the latest upgrade.. but notice that if I choose a link from within an email - it opens safari - but the safari page is hidden by the email screen.. the safari page is not viewable without choosing it from the "window" menu item. At first I thought the links from email were not opening safari at all -- then realized that the safari page does open --but it does not come to the forefront of my screen - as it used to...

I called applecare and they recommended re-installing the update directly from their site - apparently a lot of issues with updating from the software update via apple menu. So I did - and have the same problem. my husband has it also on his macbook.
I discovered that it's tied to the "space preference". If I turn the space preferences completely off -- my links from email do open up correctly in safari. If I turn the preference on (not including mail as an application" - the problem resurfaces Which is that when I click on a link in an email - the page does not appear in the forefront in safari.... it gets "hidden" behind whatever page safari is displaying
Has no one else had this issue but me (and my husband). I don't really use the space preference anymore -- but this is definitely a new issue on my laptop.

  • SAFARI NOT WORKING PROPERLY AFTER SOFTWARE UPDATE

WHEN I GO TO A PAGE IN SAFARI, I HOLDS TRYING TO FIND THE PAGE. A FEW MOMENTS LATER IT STATES THAT I'M NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET (which I am). WHEN I REFRESH THE PAGE, IT IMMEDIATELY OPENS UP. THIS STARTED TWO DAYS AGO RIGHT AFTER THE SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR SAFARI. SOMETHING VERY BUGGY HERE. HELP

User "Bee" gave this solution. I tried it and worked for me, although Safari is loading very slowly.
    Good luck!
See if you have any of the following files. Just follow the path.
    HD/Library/Application Support/Conduit
    HD/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    HD/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    HD/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    HD/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
If you do, trash them and restart Safari.

  • Safari not scrolling & sometimes unresponsive

    Recently on my Intel iMac (but also on my Mac Book Pro) safari has had a couple of problems;
    1. Scrolling stops working at all - the only way around it is to refresh the page you are on.  It appears to be at random (in that I haven't found a common time or website that it happens to).
    2. Mainly on 'app' style / heavy websites (HTML5 etc), safari becomes unresponsive in the sense that you can't click on clickable items.  The mouse pointer doesn't turn into the hand which usually signifies something is clickable.  This is generally resolved by restarting safari, or simply reloading the page.
I don't know if they are related, but it's becoming a real problem.  Has anyone got any way to fix this?
I'm using Lion 10.7.3 on the iMac.
    Thanks in advance
    Ewan

Bradley, I'm talking about this one.  It was started six months ago, and the original poster has never returned.  So start your own new topic, and tell us just exactly what's happening with your Mac, what version of Safari you're running, and what your OS is.  We'll keep and eye out for you.

  • IChat not scrolling properly

Every time I open iChat, my buddy list appears all offline until I scroll. Then when I do scroll, it fixes. But it will not allow me to scroll to the top.
Well, it does. It just appears to me that I have not -- i.e. if I double click somewhere, it is as though I've double clicked well above where I have (on another buddy).
I'm not sure when or why this happened.
I've tried un- and re-installing with the OS disc.
    Anyone have any advice?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
First of all did you use the 10.6.6 COMBO update afterwards to update iChat ?
Lets see if I try to explain what I think you said and see if we can agree on a description for the main issue.
    1) The Buddy list does not seem to have normal behaviour when Logging In.
It show most Buddies as Off Line.
    2) Scrolling the Buddy list does seem to "solve" 1) to some extent in that On Line Buddies are now shown.
    Question A)
Do you mean Visible ? Is iChat showing you the lower part of the List and you have to Scroll to see the On Line ones ?
    3) Somewhat linked to this is a possible Mouse-over Problem where the cursor pointer and Click do not seem to match the Response from the Buddy List.
    Questions B)
    (Yes it was plural)
Do you have the Buddy list reduced by using the View Menu > Show Buddy Pics in the Off setting (Unticked) ? (It makes no difference if the Audio or Video Icons are not shown - well not to the size/depth of each line)
Also, do you have Chax Installed and have you changed the Font and/or Size of the Buddies' Names or the Status Messages ?
(NOTE:- If you have the Buddy List wide enough in the above question the Status Message will appear on the same line as the Buddy's Name)
Have you used System Preferences > Universal Access (Mouse Tab) or any other app to Change the size of the Cursor/Pointer ?
With this last question, If I use Universal Access the response seems connected to the point of the Pointer no matter how large I display it.
Have you changed the Screen Resolution at all ?

  • Mail and safari not working properly

So i had not used my laptop in about a week because of an issue with safari that was driving me crazy. When i get to https sites (totally random) have a box to enter something like a cc number or address as i start to type safari gives me the busy wheel for infinity...let it sit for hours one day, never stopped. had to force quit. relaunched, same thing on the same box. cleared history and cache, rebooted and tried again..same thing.
happened on multiple websites on random boxes where i needed to enter some info, was always on a https site though.
Second issue, went to use my computer again, launched mail. none of my accounts are syncing. iCloud, exchange, gmail..all show most up to date from the last time i used it over a week ago. let it sit for hours, still no sync. got it to update by taking all accounts offline then back online. went to send a test message. hit the send button and mail locked up completely!!

  • Safari not opening Properly and no address bar

I recently updated software on my mac and since, I am having Safari issues.
When I click on the Safari link in the dock, nothing happens except the menu bar opens full screen with my desktop still on the screen.
If I  go to the search bar on the desktop and search for a website, Safari actually does open with a web page, without the address bar.
I go to customize toolbar and try dragging default settings, but it does not work most times, the address bar is missing. When I get it to work, it does not come back after closing the window.
I have tried resetting Safari, but no change. I am using Apple for a short time, and have no idea what to do next. With the PC, I would re-install to try and fix issue.

Delete the shortcut on the Desktop.
Then go to Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data.
    Now empty the Safari cache.
Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Safari not opening properly - sticks halfway through loading

    Hi there,
My Safari window on my iMac keeps opening but then the pages won't load fully - for eg, the start page comes up with the apple homepage which starts highlighting blue as if it were opening but then sticks halfway through this process.
    Firefox is working fine though.
    Help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Trackpad in Safari not working properly + how to transfer passwords

I just switched to Safari from Firefox.
The trackpad seems to know the two-finger movement to go forward/backward, but it won't acknowledge the three-finger movement to go to the top/bottom of the page. It worked fine in Firefox, but not Safari. Any tips?
Also how do I get my user ids and passwords to transfer over from Firefox to Safari?
    Thanks!

    HI,
As for the trackpad, post in the forum related to the model Mac you have. http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa
As for user names and passwords. That data cannot be transferred from one browser to another. You user names and passwords are stored in your Keychain Access application located in: Applications / Utilities.
And make sure in Safari / Preferences - Autofill that *user names and passwords* is selected. The next time you visit a site that requires you login, a new keychain will be created for you. Keep in mind, some banking and investment sites due to security, do not allow for autofill.
