Sample allocation script example starting from non-root parent.

I have a client with multiple planning entities. Most of them wish to plan at the bottom level and aggregate up. However, one planning entity wishes to plan at a higher level, and allocate this to the bottom level for a particular dimension. So my allocation script would need to start with the parent of that entity, and allocate only for the measure in question for that entity's descendants. Is there a sample allocation script that that user could invoke to do the spread on a measure (because they also later wish to plan at level zero also - only some of the time).
Thank you.

  • [SOLVED] Xorg not starting on non-root user [My First Linux]

    Hello, I recently turned back to linux after digging up my old ASUS EEE 900a, which I messed up with partitioning fun after trying to cram Windows XP on it and etc. Anyways, I managed to fix it, and after Ubuntu being too big, I was turned on to Arch as a good distro, and I've been having a very good time setting everything up so far.
    Anyways: My issue arises after needing to use a different user in order to use Chrome. I created a new account and tried to run startx like I usually do. It spat out the usual few lines, but failed and gave me this log:

    I've tried looking for this problem elsewhere as it feels like such a newbie problem to have, but I have had difficulty. There are two errors in this log, I think, but they didn't mean much to me... Any help for a linux newbie? Thanks!
    EDIT: Solved; as pointed out below, I needed a window manager for a non-root user to use.

    Well, soon you'll have to try out one of the more minimal options, in which you don't use any desktop environment but instead you install your own window manager (openbox, dwm, i3, etc) and use small, dedicated programs.  Given your extreme space restrictions, I recommend going that route! But, take your time because that requires a bit of learning: you need to figure out which parts of a desktop environment you really need, then you need to learn the proper names for them so that you can search for information, then you need to start fiddling with configurations, etc.  Better first to make sure your first Arch Linux installation is up and running properly and to learn a bit about the system before entering that downward spiral.

  • Creating a package such that its postinstall script runs as a non-root user

    The pkgmap(4) man page I have (says "Last change: 30 Apr 1999"; from SUNWman 42.6,REV=6.1) says of the owner and group fields in a pkgmap entry line:
    "This field is not used for linked files or non-installable files. It is used optionally with a package information file. If used, it indicates with what [owner/group] an installation script will be executed."
    The pkgmap file I get after running pkgmk on my prototype file contains a line like
        1 i postinstall 292 23672 1166416139for the postinstall script. The man page quote above suggests that if I want the script to be run with user and group fred/staff (say), I can hand-edit this line to instead be
        1 i postinstall fred staff 292 23672 1166416139However, pkgadd doesn't like this, complaining and failing thus:
        pkgadd: ERROR: bad entry read in pkgmap
            pathname=postinstall
            problem=extra tokens on input line
        pkgadd: ERROR: unable to process pkgmapFurthermore, there doesn't seem to be anything I can put in my prototype file to get these fields into the generated pkgmap. The corresponding owner/group fields are syntax errors for a package information file in a prototype file.
    All this, and the wording in the Application Packaging Developer's Guide, suggest that the pkgmap man page is wrong and there isn't a way to specify a non-root user and group as which you want your package's install scripts to run.
    On the other hand, the pkgadd confirmation "This package contains scripts which will be executed with super-user permission during the process of installing this package. / Do you want to continue with the installation of <PCBBserv> [y,n,?]" suggests that there might be some way to make a package such that it contains scripts which will be executed with ordinary user permissions, and thus not warrant a confirmation.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John

    tpolich wrote:One more quick question, is rc.local run the backround or say if I asked for input would the system boot hang?
    Yes, rc.local itself would hang, but if you background the process inside rc.local using the '&' symbol at the end of the command, then that command will be backgrounded and rc.local can continue.

  • XFCE issues - HAL/shutdown; startxfce from non-root; keyboard maps

    Today I finally decided to get rid of Ubuntu on my desktop machine and installed Archlinux.
    I want to have XFCE running on it and in general its running quite nicely.
    [ignore this paragraph]
    Yet I can't use restart/shutdown my comp from within Archlinux using that power off button. I get an error stating that HAL is either not permitting to shutdown/reboot the computer, or that it's not available.
    [/stop ignoring it here]
    Also my keyboard map in XFCE is different than the one I use outside X (I have a UK keyboard layout; in the shell without a desktop environment everything is right). Why is that? Where can I change it?
    Also I Arch installed on my laptop. Initially I used OpenBox, but now I wanted to try XFCE on it too. But here I can't start xfce from my user account (from root or with sudo though it works). I get an error stating "Unable to access file /home/user/.ICEauthority: Permission denied".
    EDIT: Alright, the HAL issue is solved for whatever reason. Seems like a restart did it.
    Last edited by Stalafin (2007-11-26 18:45:11)

    The solution to the startxfce problem is to change the owner.
    sudo chown -R youruser /home/user/.ICEauthority
    The -R flag will performe the change recursively
    If you ever log in as root again, or using sudo, you will have to change the owner again.

  • Recovering Snow Leopard notes from non-root mail folders.

    I knew this was an issue and it was one of the things holding me back from updating my primary machine, but yesterday in a fit of forgetfulness when I upgraded some other software to my machine was more ready to move up to 10.8, I forgot about figuring out this issue and upgraded. Now I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to undersand how everything fits together and how I can make it work as desired.
    The sort statement of the problem: In Mail.app from Mac OS X 10.6.8 I had a bunch of yellow "notes" stored in a variety of folders, both "On My Mac" as well as on various IMAP servers. These notes are not available from iOS or Mail.app on Mac OS X 10.8.2, except for those stored in the inbox of my iCloud account. How do I access them?
    My understanding of "notes" in Mail.app from 10.6.8 is that they are merely a "special" email message that can be edited, and thus are easily stored on a mail server (IMAP and other protocols perhaps?) or in a local folder. With Mac OS X 10.8, I don't know if this format changed, but in any case, Mail.app no longer pays any attention to these files, and leaves them to Notes.app to deal with, but Notes.app does not traverse the regular mail folder hierarchy and so does not find the old notes. Is this understanding correct?
    Does anyone know how I can access these old notes, stored in mail folders like "On my mac" > "Domestic" > "Finances" > "Bank of Bob". I have probably two or three dozen of these notes with records of phone numbers, contact names, transaction information, etc. They were very useful to have nicely stored next to related email messages, and don't know how I will best deal with no longer having them in one place, but first I need to find them all in the first place!
    I suppose I might be able to fire up a copy of Mac OS X 10.6 and use it Mail.app from there to search through all the IMAP servers and recover/move the notes to iCloud's IMAP top level, and maybe do the same for those "On my mac" - but it would be nice if I could do it all within Mac OS X 10.8.
    Any ideas?
    - johann

    OK, you all solved my problem (or at least part). How did you do it? By making me wait. Today I opened up Notes and it said something like "Hey, you've got a bunch of notes on your local machine - should I upload them to iCloud?" It then proceeded to move all of the notes in the various local folders up to matching named folders in iCloud.
    I still have notes in subfolders on some IMAP servers that are MIA, so if you have any idea how to access to them in Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, feel free to pipe up.

  • Systemd vboxweb.service mod when needing to start as non-root user

    Hi,
    Don't know if this will help anyone, but here goes,
    I wanted the systemd service unit to run using my local account but to get this to work, I had to do the following:
    1. Create a file called vboxweb_mod.conf in /etc/tmpfiles.d with the below inside it (replace <user> <group> with your username and group you want vboxweb started with.)
    D /run/vboxweb 0755 <user> <group>
    2. Create /etc/systemd/system/vboxweb_mod.service to look like this: (replace <user> <group> with your username and group you want vboxweb started with.)
    [Unit]
    Description=VirtualBox Web Service
    After=network.target
    [Service]

  • To access a package, the calling class must reside in the root/parent direc

    My goal was to be able to access my package from anywhere within the
    high level root folder (d:\zJava). But it seems the invoking class MUST
    RESIDE IN THE TOP LEVEL PARENT DIRECTORY of the package. Was Java
    designed to behave this way?
    D:\zJava\zsamples\com\zswingpackage1>     <-- packages successfully compiled here
         swing_optgrp_eg1.{class/java}

    Hello,
    I think that you use the import-declarations incorrectly.
    Your code says:
    import com.zswingpackage1;
    ... The meaning of the above declaration is the following: Import the class "zswingpackage1" from the package "com". The compiler cannot find that class, but it is probably never asked to find it in your code, so it won't report an error.
    If you want to import the whole package use the following declaration instead:
    import com.zswingpackage1.*;
    ... That means: import all classes from from the package "com.zswingpackage1".
    You can also import just the classes needed, e.g.:
    import com.zswingpackage1.swing_optgrp_eg1;
    ... I hope that does the job.

  • First time going to a site where I do not have access and clicking the back button I'm returned to the root site instead of the site I started from

    Greetings,
    I have SharePoint 2013 enterprise using ADFS for authentication.  I have an issue where the first time going to a site where you do not have access and clicking the back button you're returned to the root site instead of the site you
    started from.
    ie:
    1) at site http://www.sharepoint.com/sites/finance/home.aspx
    2) browse to
    http://www.sharepoint.com/sites/finance/private/home.aspx
    3) receive a message: you do not have access to this site  ((oops went to the wrong location - I'll hit the back button))
    4) click the browser back button
    5) get returned to http://www.sharepoint.com/pages/home.aspx
    This only happens the first time browsing to a site that I do not have rights to, after this I can browse to the same site and hit the browser back  button and return to the correct site, or any other site that I do not have access to.
    Any ideas as to why this happens?  Ideas of where to start looking?
    Thanks

    Hi Robert,
    From your description, when you receive access denied message and hit back button in browser, it redirects you to the root site but not previous site. However, this just happens at the first time.
    You may try to use some tool or check log which can tell us how does it handle the request when you hit the button. And compare the issue time and non-issue time.
    I'd suggest you use Netmon tool:

  • In iPS 3.0SP3a, I would like to change the super-admin entry from root to a non-root user. The problem is I was able to install iPS as a pseudo-root however console will not let me in as that.

    There must be a way to do this. Pls help.

    Hi,
    Please Check whether the said unix user is already existing under any roles of the default-domain.
    If so, delete the user from that role in the default_domain and then
    Goto : Manage Domain > view Domain Administrator Roles > Admin Role > users
    Create the non root unix user name .
    Once you create the user profile for this under the role defined for super admin,you can access as super admin.

  • Solaris Weblogic 8.1 Server - starting Weblogic as non-root user

    Hello,
    Currently we are starting weblogic 8.1 server as the root user, but would like to start as a non-root user.
    (our unix team isn't too happy giving us, the dev team the root password!).
    Is it possible to start Weblogic 8.1 on Solaris 8 without the root password?...If so, can you point me, where I can find more information in the documentation, please.
    thanx,
    Vishwa

    If you have managed to boot the server before in the past you should have a config.xml.booted file in your domain. Try using this to boot, if it works you can diff it with your possibly mashed config.xml to see what went wrong.
