Samsung Droid Charge shuts off when taking a picture?

Almost every time I take a picture and the flash goes off, my phone automatically turns off. It's really annoying and I didn't pay to have a phone with this type of fault. Does anyone have any solutions or suggestions?
Thanks for the help!

Jamm...& snoop9,
Go BUY a new battery but do NOT use it until you do the following
Just before you go to bed put the new battery in your phone and then turn your phone off.  Let it charge the battery for at least 6 or more hours
In the morning turn your phone on and take a picture.
It probably will be okay because BAD batteries have been a cause of this problem.

  • Samsung Charge Shuts down when taking a picture

Is there a fix yet for this?    when I call customer service they act like they have never heard of such a thing.... even sent me out a new phone.... same thing is happening and I have found tons of other complaints about the same thing.
It is so frustrating to say " OK group... get together for a picture" and then I click and the phone shuts down..... only to be restarted when the battery is removed..... and no PIC
    This is getting annoying.

  • Droid Charge shut off by itself, then reads low battery when turned back on.

I have had my Charge about a year now, and I have just recently begun to have problems with it. Pretty convenient to have these start after warranty expires.  So, I can be doing anything (texting, web, app usage), and the phone will turn off.  When I power it back on, the battery is red.  But, if I pull the battery, it usually goes back in the blue, but not anywhere near where the charge point was before.  I suspect I have a worn out battery, but am not sure.  The battery is slightly swollen (indicating usage), but this does not explain how I can to from a full battery to critically low in an instant.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks!!!

When your battery is fully charged it is at 3.7 Volts and your phone says that it's fully charged.  But if when you turn it on and  use your phone the battery almost immediately it shuts off your phone then your battery has failed.  What happened is that it has virtually no AMPS (power) even though it is at 3.7 volts.
Your best recourse is to buy a new battery.
Don't beat yourself up complaining or blaming the phone, just get a new battery.  Remember, life is short, consider eating desert first!

  • Samsung charge shuts off doing a variety of things

    Hello -
My Samsung Droid Charge shuts off when taking picture, trying to get on the Internet and sometimes randomly with minimal use.  Do I need to replace the battery?

        Hi there Lochbuie!
Oh well we can't have your phone shutting off every time you try to use it! I will be delighted to provide some suggestions.
First, I would recommend putting your phone into Safe Mode and testing to ensure it's not being caused by a 3rd party application.
    See: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=42435
If it still happens in safe mode we would want to ensure it's not a software glitch. This would require a hard reset:

Please ensure your media & contacts are backed up first!
Please let us know if this works.
    Thanks!

  • My iBook just shuts off when it is still partially charged. Help?

Hello, I have an 14" iBook G4, and have been having problems lately with the computer shutting off (going dead, and not into sleep mode) after it has been running on battery power for awhile. It usually shuts off when the battery is at around 45-60 percent charge still left. It never shuts off when plugged in to the charger. Here are some specifics on the battery from the System Profiler:
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1545
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1542
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 16543
    Cycle Count: 225
I have been thinking about getting a new battery but I just replaced this one a year or two ago so I don't think it should be bad yet.
A few things that I think might be causing the problem might be that I upgraded this computer a while ago by putting in a 100 GB hard drive and putting in a Superdrive (it originally had a 40 GB HD and a Combo Drive). I also have an extra 512 MB of RAM installed. I also just recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.4.11. I had been running 10.4.6 for the longest time (mostly because I always though it was safer because sometimes when I had updated computers in the past they'd run into problems. Plus, I have software that I knew would run with OS 10.4.6 - plus the install discs).
Anyway, let me know what you guys think I should or could do to fix this problem. I'm on my computer all the time so I should respond quickly to your guys' (or girls') advice.
Thanks for any help you can give. Later

I looked into resetting the PMU (although I think I already tried that a week ago), I don't know if something specific is supposed to happen to let me know something was reset but everything functioned pretty much as normal.
I tried recalibrating the battery with minimal success, it went down to 31% then actually said 0% and died. I tried recalibrating twice and it doesn't go into sleep mode, it just dies. It'll go down to 0% and still not go into sleep mode. Now my battery reading says this(with the power cord unplugged):
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1315
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1313
    Amperage (mA): -778
    Voltage (mV): 16178
    Cycle Count: 225
I took continual readings of the Battery in the System Profiler and pasted them into a Word document when the computer was at 0% capacity and was still on but wouldn't go into sleep mode (it eventually just died). I can post some of those on here if you want.
I also tried that Coconut Battery program to let me know any new information about the Battery and it says nothing really new. It says the battery has a max capacity of 1315 mAh (although just couple of days ago it used to have around 1500mAh - read my first post above - I don't know if that means I've made progress or the battery is worse off then when I started) and also the Battery originally had 4400 mAh capacity (so now it's at about 29% of its original strength).
One thing did disturb me though is that the battery might not be recording the number of cycles correctly. Even though I've gone through at least a few charges in the last couple of days, it still says "225" and it should be higher. You'll even notice that it said "224" in the Battery Information in my first post. I've gone through at least a couple of complete discharges, I would think.
Anyway, I hope there are some more options on the table, but I'll see if I can keep re-calibrating it and it will finally work. I am starting to wonder if its the battery or the module inside it or some other problem. Anyway, thanks for the help.

  • 14" iBook G4 shuts off when I open it up

I just started having this problem two days ago with my iBook. When I close it everything looks fine, the little light in the front is lit showing that it is still on but when I open up the computer, instead of waking up, it just shuts off and then won't turn on forever. It seems like I have to hit the power button just right for it to come back on. It does not shut off at any other time, only when I open up the computer. Other than this I have no problems. It does not appear to be the battery and it does not shut down at any other time. Why is it shutting off when I try to open it and why will it not turn on again? I hope this question makes sense!

    nerone,
but when I open up the computer, instead of waking up, it just shuts off and then won't turn on forever. It seems like I have to hit the power button just right for it to come back on. It does not shut off at any other time, only when I open up the computer. Why is it shutting off when I try to open it and why will it not turn on again? I hope this question makes sense!
I tried to put it to sleep through the Apple menu and it also shuts down then.
OK that last step eliminated the cable, reed/cable and inverter problems.
So that makes it a PMU problem. The PMU is actually a tiny computer within the computer. It's official designation is PMU99.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/DeveloperNotes/Macintosh_CPUs-G4/12inchPowerBookG4/2_Architecture/chapter_3_section4.html
    "Power Control IC
The power manager IC in the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is a Mitsubishi M16C/62F microprocessor, also called the PMU99. It operates with its own RAM and ROM. The functions of the PMU99 include:
*controlling the sleep and power on and off sequences
    *real time clock
*controlling power to the other ICs
    *monitoring the battery charge level
    *controlling battery charging
*supporting the interface to the built-in keyboard
The 12-inch PowerBook G4 can operate from a 15-volt power outlet on an airliner, however for safety reasons the computer will not allow battery charging. In order for the computer to detect the connection to airline power, the airline power cable should have a sense resistor of 24.3K ohms connected between the power plug's shell and ground.
The PMU99 also provides the hardware interface to the keyboard. Software in the PMU99 IC scans the keyboard, then sends the data to the system in packets like those from the ADB. To the system, the keyboard behaves as if they were ADB devices"
    Try resetting it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
If that doesn't work try what I call a deep PMU reset.
Pull all power including the battery, push the power button to remove residual charge in soft start capacitors.
Then walk away from it for at least 10 hours.
Try it again in the morning. Stuff like this has happened and people have left things alone and come back days, weeks and months later and their Macs are fine.

  • What will happen to my unlimited 3G data plan if VZW gives me the Samsung Droid Charge 4G phone?

I currently have the Samsung Fascinate and the unlimited data plan, with a 20% corporate
discount .   The 2-year contract started when I bought the Fascinate in November 2010.
If I'm not mistaken, my unlimited plan is grandfathered in, even after Verizon changed the
    2GB limit for data plans.
There is no 4G service in my part of the state. There won't be 4G for at least 2 years,
according to the Verizon corporate store manager.  My part of the state was the second
to last to get 3G on the east coast.
If I take Verizon's offer and accept the Samsung Droid Charge 4G as a replacement phone,
what will happento my existing unlimited 3G data plan?   Can they activate the 4G phone
    on a 3G data plan?
Will the 4G phone pick up 4G signal when I travel to a major city with 4G service? (nearest
city with 4G is 230 miles away)

    SFObrien wrote:
If I understand their policy correct you will continue your current unlimited 3G plan and have access to 4G in coverage areas as long as you DON'T change your plan. If you change your plan new rates will apply.
Can one of the Verizon guys here verify this?
    Consider it verified, Steve!

have you tried clearing your cache? as far as clearing cache its a component that improves performance by transparently storing data. i have a history eraser to delete everything at once for me thus clearing up room and keeping phone from clogging up and lagging, etc. its a free app and easy to use. to download it on your phone go to market>apps>search>history eraser>HistoryEraser DUMAPIC (should be the first one listed)>tap on it>download>now once its downloaded open it and tap bomb>depending on how much you use the web browser, call people, search market histories, use navigation and maps, etc. is how often you need to clear your data. i do so about every two hours. you could also try hard resetting your phone. this would erase everything to the way you when you first got your phone out of the store so i t recommend it as a last resort choice. there is a website posted below with the information on how to quickly and easily do this.

  • Samsung Droid Charge 4G issues

So, so far I have had a lot of issues with my Samsung Droid Charge.
4G has been extremely spotty. I have been in both 91304 and 94598 zipcodes. Both areas where there is supposed to be solid 4G coverage. Sometimes the phone will go an entire day constantly on 4G, sometimes it will be on 3G for hours at a time without going to 4G. Sometimes it will go to "1x" and will not let me go on the 3G network.
I went to the Verizon wireless store today and they swapped my simcard to see if that improves it, but it has not.
Sometimes I go to the system selection and i try to select "CDMA mode" and then select "LTE automatic" to reset it, and it will get 4G again, but only for a brief while and then it will go back to 3G.
Sometimes I will also just not be able to get any data connection for awhile as well, not even 1X, not 3G, not 4G.
Does anyone else have these issues with this phone?

    Ed1956 wrote:
I don't think is the phone itself but your location, I too purchased the Charge 4G and Verizon also said that my ZIP was in a solid  4G area....but the area is really about 10 miles radius around downtown, checking by ZIP is just Verizon advertisement and really does not work, that is a place where you can check using your actual address. Check where is the nearest antenna  from where you are is also a good idea, goggle "search for cell tower"
I only get 3G here, it works fine on 3G  at speeds +/- 770 kbps down and 800 kbps up and  fast when I am the very VERY SMALL 4G coverage 23220 kbps down and 4700 kbps up...but funny thing is, the REAL speed difference accessing Internet sites is just noticeable but not as fast as I was expecting...my DSL loads as fast as the 4G with only 6500 kbps down, go figures
You are never going to notice speed differences in general on small files. The real tests will be how fast LARGE files download. like a 100MB game vs. 512KB picture. The picture would load just as fast whether 4G or 3G with very little time difference, but the game you would see a drastic difference.

  • Gave up and ordered the Samsung Droid Charge today, like 100 other Fasinate owners at this store

I finally decided on the Samsung Droid Charge.   Played with the X2 and Incredible at the VZW store, but wasn't too impressed with the screens.  Samsung still seem to have the best-looking screen.(not "better" than the Fascinate's screen... just "bigger")
Anyway...  I went into the local Verizon Wireless corporate store.  There was one other customer ahead of me.  I walked around the store and looked at the Charge to make sure I was making a right decision.  A couple of minutes, a VZW rep became available and I told her what I needed.   I said "I have a Fascinate that was missing....." she stopped me before I coudl finish my sentence and said she would order me a Samsung Droid Charge.    (probably saw me playing with the Droid Charge?)
She asked for my phone#, last 4 digits of SSN#, and a daytime shipping address & phone# for FedEx 2-day.   I had to sing on the electronic pad and agree to return my current Fascinate once the Charge is delivered.   The receipt printed out.  The whole process took less than 3 minutes, probably faster if I wasn't chatting with her at the same time.  She was extremely friendly and helpful.(and so hot... and so out of my league )  Apparently she also had her own Fascinate replaced with the Charge and have been happy so far.(her words, not mine)  She went on to say that her store has probably processed over 100 such orders for Fasicinate owners ever since the policy was implemented  (they are the only Verizon corporate store within 50 miles and that seemed like an alarmingly huge number to me, considering my town is extremely small, population under 13,492)
I was slightly disappointed when the receipt showed "CLNR" because I knew it meant certified like-new replacement.    This store's manager told me last weeek that I would get a "NEW" Droid Charge.     However, I didn't really care.  I'm okay with it, as long as the "CLNR" that I get has no scratches on the screen, works per manufacturer specs and comes with the battery/door/SIM card.  (if not, I will just ask them to exchange it again with another CLNR)
Oh well... I guess I'll know how it goes when FedEx delivers it in a couple of days.

first, let me say that it's YMMV.
I took my Fascinate to the local Verizon Wireless corporate store.  It cannot be one of those
"authorized Verizon Wireless dealers" which are not operated by Verizon Wireless.
Tell the Verizon employee that your Fascinate phone has problems(such as missing calls)
and that you would like to have it replaced with a Samsung Droid Charge.  (if you want
the Motorola or HTC, then you can just do this over the phone without making a trip to the
    store)
The VZW employee should know what you're talking about. If not, have him search their
InfoManager database using "70946" which will bring up their Fascinate replacement
policy.    Based on what I've read here, there are some VZW stores that will argue with
you and make you go through troubleshooting steps.  This is not required, as clearly
stated in VZW's own policy for the Fascinate.  They know that the problem has no fix
at this time, which is why they implemented this policy.   If the VZW store that you go
to gives you a hard time, go visit another VZW store. (unless you live in a small town
like me and there is only one VZW store within 50 miles...)
The VZW store that i went to was very nice and knew immediately what to do.  I was in
and out within minutes. The phone arrived via FedEX and it was a BRAND NEW phone
in retail box.   Again, this may vary.... others on this forum have reported getting
certified like-new phones.     I had to go back to the store because VZW forgot to include
the 4G SIM card which is required for 4G phones.   The manager gave me a SIM card
and activated it for me.   She said that most of the customers who exchanged Fascinate
for the Droid Charge have been getting new phones in the last few weeks.... the reason
is that VZW doesn't have that many pre-owned Droid Charge phones. That's not surprising
because the Droid Charge has been out only a couple of months.
VZW only guarantees that you will get a cerfitied like-new replacement Samsung Droid Charge.
It should be as good as new. If not, VZW should have no problem exchanging it for another
until you're happy.   I personally would not have minded if they sent me a like-new unit.
Makes no real difference to me.  IMHO, getting a brand-new phone in retail box was just a
    just a nice bonus.
My Droid Charge has been working great and I am very grateful for all the information that
other VZW customers and employees have posted on this forum.
Please feel free to ask me if you have other questions and I'll try to help.

I took it to the Apple store and the "genious" told me that cycle count is too high and they can't replace the battery under warranty. He said I use it with a battery too much. Last time I checked, I bought a portable computer, it has a battery for a purpose. When I work at a client's office I don't always have it plugged in. What does actually constitute a "cycle"? I've had the laptop for 1 year and 2 months.

Ok, so I'll tell you guys my experience with the genius bar at the Apple Store.
It was about 2:20 pm today, I walked up to the genius bar and waited for someone to come to me -- which took all of 30 seconds. So he asked what my reason for visiting was, and I told him the story about how my battery would just cut off at 30%. He then asked for my computer, so I reached into my laptop bag, pulled it out, and placed it in front of him. It was in sleep mode so we just opened it up to get started; he went to the "About this Mac" from the Apple button in the menu bar and took a look at my serial number. After about 2 minutes he said "I'll be right back." I waited for no longer than two minutes, and he came out from the back with a box in hand. He then flipped my computer over and took my battery off, opened the box, pulled out a new battery and placed it in my computer. Then, all that I had left to do was sign for it, and I was on my way in no more than 10 minutes.
What I find interesting is that he didn't even look at how many "cycles" my battery had; although, it probably wouldn't have made much difference as it was only at 17. At any rate, I asked him if there was a set of defective batteries out there -- including mine -- and basically he told me that yes, there was. So I guess since he looked at my computers serial number, his computer told me that mine was one of the affected ones.
Anyways, bottom line was it was very easy to do to get it replaced, with zero hassle. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with how the Apple Store and genius bar both opperate, much better than dealing with stores like Best Buy and the like -- in my opinion anyways.
    Good luck everyone.

Just recently, when i tried to put photos and movies on my 30G iPod, the screen on my laptop shuts off. The computer does not shut down completely, whats going on? it also shuts off when i try to burn a cd now, HELP!

Your battery gauge needs to be recalibrated. The gauge "thinks" you have 20%, but the battery doesn't agree. You need to run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, then charge for 4 hours with the wall adapter. You may need to do this more than once if it is way off calibration.
