Samsung SSD not showing up on my MBP early2011

I have the MBP early 2011 model with internal drive Link speed 6 gbps.
I bought a new Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB SSD, but it is not showing up on my mac on disk utility, or anywhere else. The Samsung website has firmware upgrades for only 840 EVO and others and not 850 EVO.
I have connected the ssd using SATA to USB cable.
What should I do? The software given on the CD that came with the ssd only run on windows. On bootcamp, it says no connected SSD found..?!!!

After the original Fujitsu 160gb hd died in my MacBook Pro (model A1226), I was advised at the Mac store to upgrade to a SSD. I installed the crucial m4 256gb internal SSD and powered on MacBook Pro from the Snow Leopard install disk so I could use disk utility to erase and reformat the new SSD.
The problem is the SSD is not showing up in disk utility. I have opened the computer twice and checked cable connections and still no luck. I have powered off computer and let sit for a while and tried again. I check compatability on crucial site before ordering SSD so I don't know what the problem is. Bad disk?

You were given bad advice.
Return/Sell the SSD and buy a 7,200 RPM hard drive instead, it should work fine and a more of a match for your older machine.
Your Mac doesn't have the faster SATA connections for a SSD also 10.6 isn't equipped for SSD's only hard drives, your basically putting a Ferrari engine in a Yugo, it can't handle it.
The 7,200 RPM drive will give you the performance and more drive space than a SSD anyway.
Follow these instructions when you erase and install 10.6, it will give the best results.

SSD not showing in disk utility

I just replaced the bad 80gb original hard drive with a 64gb Active SSD. Everything went smoothly, however, when I try and install OSX the only thing that shows up is sm2242-ac and it shows as 31.5mb. After looking around, apparently this is the micro controller for the ssd. Is this a sign of a bad drive or should I try and boot ubuntu and use gparted?

Looks like I was able to solve the mystery .. I've placed the original HDD to the caddy in the optical drive bay, and moved the SSD into the original HDD position.. both drives now show up, and I can use the SSD as boot drive
This leads me to believe that this model of Macbook Pro (late 2011, 17") has issues when there is an SSD in the optical drive position..

Samsung SSD not working internally in macbook pro 2009

hi,
installed mountain lion 10.8.2 on samsung 512 830 SSD and it boots perfectly in an external enclosure (using it now) but when I put it internally, it doesnt boot at all I get just the grey boot up spinning wheel
can anyone please help me with this ive read various things about replacing the SATA cable and covering it with tin foil but no one seems to give a definitive answer.
Please help as I don't want to have wasted my money

SSD Not Showing

So, I was using my laptop like regular and it took a turn for the worse. I got "beach balled" and it seized up. When I went to restart I got the "Folder Icon" with a question mark. I did some research and found that it could have been my HD. I went and bought a SSD Drive to fix the problem. I found that the SSD wasn't being recognized internally, but it could from the USB. I hooked my stock HD up to the USB to SATA and it booted up.
So, what exactly went wrong on my laptop?

It's likely that you have a 'faulty yet good enough for a hard drive' SATA cable. We see that frequently around here - the cable is 'good enough' to boot a hard drive but 'faulty enough' not to work with an SSD.
If I were you, I would head over to www.ifixit.com, find the Apple part number for your cable and either order one (with a warranty) from ifixit or search eBay with the Apple part number and order one from a vendor there (hopefully one that will warranty the cable for some time).
I'm almost certain that this is your problem - and it's an inexpensive fix.

I am trying to connect mbp to tv using mini display port and HDMI cable TVtuned tocorrect port as shows Mac wallpaper (purple star scene) but does not show what is on MBP. What can I try so that I can see mbp display on TV?

What do I needto do to connect a tv as an external display for my mbp using a mini display port to hdmi cable. I have tried display without success. tv is receiving a signal as displays apples default wallpaper when connected but nothing from screen of mbp.

Soundls like it is working. Try dragging a window on the MBP to the edge of the screen and see if it appears on the TV.
There are two ways to set up the TV one is to mirror the MBP display and the other is to be an extension of the MBP's screen.
You change the settings in System Preference->Display

Mouse & Trackpad cursor not showing up after sleep (MBP)

This is happening more consistently and its getting frustrating. When waking my MacBook Pro from sleep, the cursor doesn't appear. I can tell its moving around, but no cursor is visible. Unplugging and replugging the mouse in doesn't help on either USB port. Force-quiting the finder doesn't work either.
Anyone experiencing this? I searched a bit, but didn't see a similar issue listed, although there seem to be plenty of other waking issues.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Unfortunately I am at work right now and can't try any of them yet. Here is some more info about my system. I am anxious to get home and try to resolve this issue.
I recently bought this system used. The previous owner stated there were no problems with it. As soon as I received it, I upgraded to 10.5.2, so I don't know if it was doing this before then. I do have an external hard drive attached via FireWire (not USB). The only other things attached to this system is the monitor, keyboard/mouse and a printer.
Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the insight!

Problem:
When I install my SSD in the Optical Bay, I'm unable to format and use the drive.
I have two of these SSD's and I plan to copy my existing MBP hard drive to one of the SSD's and then run two 512 GB SSD's in my MBP.
The SSD comes with a USB cable so I tested both drives with the cable. I can format both drives. Move files around. Restart and they still work.
I started by putting one of the SSD's in the Optical bay to test it out. When I restart it says the drive needs to be initialized, even though it already was. If I try to format the drive it gets half way and just sits there without doing anything. I've let it sit for quite some time and nothing happens. If I keep retrying eventually I can get the drive to format and work. I can move files too and from the drive but when I restart the computer, the drive is gone and needs to be initalized again.
I found Samsung has updated firmware so I had a coworker update the drives on his PC as that's the only way to do it.
I then installed the drive back in my MBP and I have the same issue with the drive not initializing properly. This is true for both drives I own and I have not tried moving the SSD to the primary HD bay. I checked the OS X Software update and I'm all up to date as far as I'm aware. I do not know how to check my MBP Firmware and I'm not sure if this is something I need to do.
Has anyone experienced this issue and have any solutions?

I have a similar scenario. While waiting for my optical bay to arrive I installed the SSD in the primary HDD bay, formatted it, installed OS X Lion, etc. It was working great. When the bay arrive I moved it over to that and I was no longer able to boot from the SSD. Just had the spining progress wheel under the Apple logo on boot. I booted to my previous HDD via a USB enclosure and I could see the SSD and read files from it but cannot format it or install OS X on it. I've had the following errors at various steps...
Can't download the additinoal components needed to install Mac OS X
... when booted into the Recovery HD to resinstall OS X on the SSD
Volume Erase failed with the error : File system formatter failed.
... when trying to format the SSD in the optical bay via Disk Utility

I just installed a new Samsung 840 to my 2010 mac pro as a second hard drive. It is not showing up in my startup drive in system preferences

I have a 2010 Mac Pro with a 1TB HHD. I just installed and formatted a Samsung 840 Pro SSD. I want to install a clean copy of Mavericks to the SSD and have the computer boot up to it. How do I install Mavericks to the SSD? Also, the Samsung SSD does not show up as an option in Start up in system preferences. Please help!

What OS do you want to install? If you bought your MP early enough, it may have shipped with actual install discs, and you could use those. If it shipped with Lion or newer, you will have to follow one of the procedures mentioned by Niel.
You can get Mavericks from the App Store. Before you run the installer, copy (copy, not move) the whole "Install Mavericks" download to a backup location so that you can install it again if necessary. The installer in the Applications Folder will be deleted after installation is complete, so a copy is needed.

Samsung SSD 840 EVO not detected in MacBook Pro 2012.

In January I had a problem with my computer where it would overheat, the battery would die quickly, and the overall computer speed was slower than a turtle for even the most basic functions. I brought my computer to a MacMan retailer and they fixed the issue. I then got my MBP back and it worked fine for about a month. It then repeated the same symptoms it had before I got it fixed. I talked to my roommate and did some research and ended up purchasing the Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250gb to replace my Hard Drive.
I transferred all my data to the new SSD and then installed the SSD to the internal bay where the hard drive sits without any problems. After the SSD was in place I booted up the computer and I got a "flashing folder with question mark." The SSD was not internally recognized by my computer. I then tried to put my Hard Drive back in to see if it would be recognized and it was not. However, both the SSD and Hard Drive are externally recognized via USB enclosure. I have been working on this for a couple days and am getting frustrated.
I have tried a number of fixes I thought would surely work. I reformatted the SSD to the appropriate Mac format that every forum and website recommend: Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that does not work. I have reinstalled OS X Yosemite, I have tried updating the SSD Firmware through USB. Nothing has worked yet. I have tried using Apple's internet recovery system and neither drive is recognized when inside the computer. My best assumption but least favorable is the Cable within the MacBook Pro that connects to the Hard Drive/SSD is faulty. I fear that it may be faulty since now neither the SSD or Hard Drive is detected when they are installed in the MacBook Pro, only when external.
Can anyone please help me figure out what could be wrong? If you need more information just ask and I will do my best to answer them to your satisfaction. Anyone input, conclusion, or direction would be greatly appreciated!

You have already defined the probable cause, the internal SATA cable. For verification, take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation. It is not an expensive repair, even if done by Apple.

Samsung SSD 840EVO not booting from macbook pro mid 2012 after cloning

I guess i'm so stuck with the SSD that i have purchased.
Here is the details:

I was running with the factory HDD (toshiba 500gb) and thought of replacing it with an SSD . Tried a clean installation of mavericks at first using Bootable USB drive having mavericks. So i went on and installed the ssd replacing the HDD i had and went on to boot up from the USB, prior the installtion i tired to partition it first with single partition MAC os extended journaled with GUID table. But then it did partition but after that it says trying to reinitialize the drive and it never came back although i tried more than five times. So then i went back to my HDD and tired cloning it to SSD using Carbon Copy Cloner, but even for that i had to do the partitioning which failed. Finally i had to go and return back that peice and they gave me another one convincing me that it might a defective peice.
Now, with the second one, at first i booted up my HDD normally and connected the new SSD the USB/sata converter and i successfully partitioned and using carbon copy cloner, i have cloned as well. Now to make sure if its all ok, before replacing the HDD in the main compartment, i just selected the startup disk as the new SSD and restarted the system... it booted up fine like a cheetah... was all gud... i thought everything is pretty fine. Then ofcourse i went ahead and replaced the HDD and powered up the system again, but then it's not booting up... it gives you that folder with ? mark and that's all...
And then i tried some other ways too... i even checked the firmware versions and i guess they are upto date as well. I just dont get the reason why it's not working.

Help -- I have a Lenovo Samsung SSD MZ7PC256HAFU on HP laptop -- ssd firmware will not update

1. i tried updating the SSD firmware by doing it with the samsung magician software --- it does not see the SSD
2. then i tried doing it with the Lenovo iso found here:

this supposed ISO file was not recognized by my main ISO burner. another burner worked but my HP laptop still will not bood from this ISO dvd.
3. then i called Samsung. they told me that because this Samsung SSD is Lenovo OEM branded, that Samsung software will not work any more to update the firmware.

You will probably have to find a Lenovo branded system (laptop).
Attach the Lenovo branded (samsung) SSD.
Boot using the Lenovo branded ISO.
Return SSD back to your HP system.

Kernel panic, Yosemite, early 2011 mbp, samsung SSD

I am getting kernel panics about once a day, or once every two days. My system is an early 2011 MacBook Pro, with a new SSD from Samsung (850 Evo). The OS is a clean install of Yosemite from an USB drive.
Everything is running great, except these occasional kernel panics. Does anyone have any ideas?
I'm hoping its not an incompatibility between the Samsung drive - I bought it on the advice of a technician at the Apple store after my original one broke.

You installed a third-party system modification that includes a kernel extension. It might (or might not) be called "Syphon Virtual Screen." Remove it and see whether the panics stop.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

Hello everyone. I have recently installed a Samsung SSD (solid state hard drive) into my destop PC. For some reason Lightroom does not see it ? So i cannot ingest photos from it, or copy photos from a card to it. It is not listed as a drive option. LR see

hello everyone. I have recently installed a Samsung SSD (solid state hard drive) into my destop PC. For some reason Lightroom does not see it ? So i cannot ingest photos from it, or copy photos from a card to it. It is not listed as a drive option. LR sees every other drive. My computer sees it fine, so i was able to create a catalogue there. Im running windows 8.1. Any ideas ? I will also add that this drive became corrupt and was repaired by Samsung. Maybe they didn't do a very good job.. ..

Yes pretty much that, but to clarify sorry
Opened Lightroom.
Create new catalogue.
This opened the Windows 8 file explorer window and Windows recognises the drive. So I was able to create a catalogue there and save.
I then inserted my memory card into my card reader which LR recognised. I selected it, chose all the photos within and then navigated to the right side of the Lr import dialogue window to locate this problem drive as on this occasion i want the RAW files on the same drive as the lrcat. However all my other drives are listed but not this Samsung SSD.
In addition this Samsung SSD is not listed a drive to import from in the same dialogue window.

My Samsung external hd does not show its folders on MAC. It runs sometimes at Windows systems. I hadl already tried to configure to show hidden folders, but it does not solve my problem.

This might sound stupid since i'm not really knowledgeable with Macs,
but since all my files were moved from my mac computer to the external hard drive,
is it possible to recover those files through my Mac - like recovering deleted files?
