  • How do I map Hitachi SAN LUNs to Solaris 10 and Oracle 10g ASM?

    Hi all,
I am working on an Oracle 10g RAC and ASM installation with Sun E6900 servers attached to a Hitachi SAN for shared storage with Sun Solaris 10 as the server OS. We are using Oracle 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.3) RAC clusterware
for the clustering software and raw devices for shared storage and Veritas VxFs 4.1 filesystem.
    My question is this:
How do I map the raw devices and LUNs on the Hitachi SAN to Solaris 10 OS and Oracle 10g RAC ASM?
I am aware that with an Oracle 10g RAC and ASM instance, one needs to configure the ASM instance initialization parameter file to set the asm_diskstring setting to recognize the LUNs that are presented to the host.
I know that Sun Solaris 10 uses /dev/rdsk/CwTxDySz naming convention at the OS level for disks. However, how would I map this to Oracle 10g ASM settings?
I cannot find this critical piece of information ANYWHERE!!!!
    Thanks for your help!

Yes that is correct however due to use of Solaris 10 MPxIO multipathing software that we are using with the Hitachi SAN it does present an extra layer of complexity and issues with ASM configuration. Which means that ASM may get confused when it attempts to find the new LUNs from the Hitachi SAN at the Solaris OS level. Oracle Metalink note 396015.1 states this issue.
So my question is this: how to configure the ASM instance initialization parameter asm_diskstring to recognize the new Hitachi LUNs presented to the Solaris 10 host?
Lets say that I have the following new LUNs:
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d1s6
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d2s6
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d3s6
    /dev/rdsk/c7t1d4s6
Would I set the ASM initialization parameter for asm_diskstring to /dev/rdsk/c7t1d*s6
as correct setting so that the ASM instance recognizes my new Hitachi LUNs? Solaris needs to map these LUNs using pseudo devices in the Solaris OS for ASM to recognize the new disks.
How would I set this up in Solaris 10 with Sun multipathing (MPxIO) and Oracle 10g RAC ASM?
I want to get this right to avoid the dreaded ORA-15072 errors when creating a diskgroup with external redundancy for the Oracle 10g RAC ASM installation process.

  • Couldn't start ORACLE ProcMGR V10gR3 with VS2008 service in Service

    Hi All,
I couldn't start ORACLE ProcMGR V10gR3 with VS2008 service in Service. I've already done the steps in the manual guide Task 3-1-10: Setting Up the Windows Services for Oracle Tuxedo and also read a reference thread from this (http://geekswithblogs.net/BizTalkUnleashed/archive/2012/01/24/installing-peoplesoft-hrms-9.0-on-windows-server-2008-with-sql-again.aspx, Step5: Installing Oracle Tuxedo)
    it prompt this:
Windows could not start the ORACLE ProcMGR V10gR3 with VS2008 service on Local Computer
Error 1069: The server did not start due to a logon failure
I create a user name: TUXADM and group it under Administrators
    Any advise ?
    Thanks.

I try using local system and restart my desktop and it can run. But can I use local system instead of administrators and new created users?

  • Strange problem oracle db is starting automatically

    Friends,
    OS: RHEL AS 3.0
    DB: Oracle 9iR2
when ever my rhel server is starting/restarting oracle database is starting up automatically.
There is no crontab job either in the root user or in the oracle user.
Also, i checked in the oratab entry that also fine.
i checked in /etc/rc3.d there also nothing related to oracle.
what might be the reason?where i have to check for this?
    thanks

is there any script related to oracle start/stop under /etc/init.d/

  • Oracle database not starting up in oracle 10g RAC

    Hi!
Recently I came across one problem with one node oracle 10g RAC.When the Oracle database is started, while opening it is giving ORA-03113:End of file on communication channel error. When I saw the the alert trace file and other trace files I found Disk group is exhausted error and it is not able to create .dbf files.Actually it is not a production server and I gave archive log destination in SAN.Even the spfile(content of init_database.ora) is in SAN..
I tried Asmcmd utility to delete the archive log files. As the oracle is not available I am not able to asmcmd prompt.
How to change the destination of archive log and to remove the old archive log files(as it is a testing environment we can remove) from SAN?Please let me know.
    Thanks & Regards

On VMware there's a known issue with Oracle databases on a Windows client not starting up properly all the time and a manual startup using oradim -start -sid <whatever> is required to get it fully running. Hmmm, doing it several time, and never seen such issue. Which "known issue" and by who are you talking about ?
I created a brand new Oracle VM Windows 2003 32-bit server, installed the Oracle drivers for paravirtualization, and whammo, the problem is still hereI'm sure, you miss something somewhere in the config. Right now, you're on supported configuration, you could either raise a SR to the support, or get help from your peer on Oracle Database General forum.
Ah, but it's not a Windows issue. On a non-VM Windows box the database starts just fine all the time. Again, this is a known issue acknowledged by Oracle on the VMware side, I'm just surprised it exists on the Oracle VM side.Again, give more details about this "known issue". Never heard about that, eventhough I've been around for years.
I was afraid you were going to ask that. I'll have to search for it again, but I think you can do the same as well....Well, I doubt you could find a Metalink note about Oracle on VMWare. So far, Oracle has always refused to support database on OS virtualized on VMWare (or any VM software other than Oracle VM). Based on that, you could be sure, your "known issue" is not an issue on Oracle VM.
If you want more help, again, give more details about your issue.

    Hi there,
I am trying to get vncserver running on a solaris 10 server and am floundering. When I run vnvcserver, I get the following:
Couldn't start Xvnc; trying default font path.
Please set correct fontPath in the vncserver script.
    New 'X' desktop is unknown:12
    Starting applications specified in //.vnc/xstartup
    Log file is //.vnc/unknown:12.log
I have been trying suggestions from older forum posts and edited the /.vnc/xstartup file so it looks like below (the Fontpath line and the comment avove it were added by me
    #!/bin/sh
    xrdb $HOME/.Xresources

    @soldier1184:
Some cards require an older driver because nVidia dropped support for them in later drivers. (I don't know if the particular card the OP has is that case.) Also, just assuming an internet search to find out how to clean the nVidia drivers is a little bit jumping the gun, right? I mean, as long as the drivers were installed with pacman, they can be removed with pacman. Simply suggest:
    sudo pacman -R nvidia nvidia-utils <other nvidia package(s)>
If that doesn't work, we can dig a bit deeper for sure.
    @kaldøran:
Did you install anything new that caused this issue, or did you just boot up and have a problem? You said "you start to install your nVidia card", but later say you don't want nVidia. if You don't want the nVidia stuff, remove the package(s) and reboot and see how things go from there. If you didn't install anything new and this just started happening, can you boot to a terminal and run startx?

Oracle XE has it's own forum - to register and discuss XE problems with XE experts use URL http://www.oracle.com/technology/xe/registration
Once you have registered, you sign in to the forums and the link to the XE forum is there. But you do have to sign in as the user who registered XE.
You will also need to provide a few more pieces of information:
    1) actual distro and version of Linux
    2) userid used to install XE (should be root)
    3) userid used to run "/etc/init.d/oracle-xe start" (should be root)

    Dear Joseph,
I am using the TACAS, this morning, I found the problem, username and password configuration missed after I changed the authentication method to TACAS, I re-configured them, it is OK now.
But currently I still find the result of my inventory collection jobs are all failed, it seems that the LMS 2.6 couldn't sucessfully collect device information in RME. All the devices information including credentials are imported form a xml file I expert form the old system.
Is there any idea you know why all the inventory jobs failed?
    Thanks!

  • Problem restarting my Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3

I am having a problem restarting my Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.
If I try to restart or republish my server, it gives me the error 'weblogic.management.ManagementException: Unable to obtain lock on D:\user_projects\userdomain\servers\AdminServer\tmp\AdminServer.lok. Server may already be running'.
This problem happens only when the server is inactive for a while. Say, if I leave the server running overnight without any activity, the server state reads stopped in the morning, even though background java processes are still running. Now, at this point, it doesn't let me restart or republish my server until I explicitly kill all the java process from windows task manager.
Any help to solve this highly frustrating problem is gratefully appreciated. BTW, this happens on development systems, running on windows, using Oracle Workshop for WebLogic v10.3.

    EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
And after I applied catexp.sql script, it didn't fix the issue with export, the error message has become like this:
    EXP-00056: ORACLE error 31600 encountered
ORA-31600: invalid input value EMIT_SCHEMA for parameter NAME in function SET_TRANSFORM_PARAM
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 105
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA_INT", line 3926
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA_INT", line 4050
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 836
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
Can someone advise, what's wrong with it? With oracle 9.2.0.1 export worked fine, after upgrade to 9.2.0.5 it fails every time it gets to the table data export stage.
    Thanks in advise
