Oracle database not starting up in oracle 10g RAC

Hi!
Recently I came across one problem with one node oracle 10g RAC.When the Oracle database is started,while opening it is giving ORA-03113:End of file on communication channel error.When I saw the the alert trace file and other trace files I found Disk group is exhausted error and it is not able to create .dbf files.Actually it is not a production server and I gave archive log destination in SAN.Even the spfile(content of init_database.ora) is in SAN..
I tried Asmcmd utility to delete the archive log files.As the oracle is not available I am not able to asmcmd prompt.
How to change the destination of archive log and to remove the old archive log files(as it is a testing environment we can remove) from SAN?Please let me know.

I was afraid you were going to ask that. I'll have to search for it again, but I think you can do the same as well....Well, I doubt you could find a Metalink note about Oracle on VMWare. So far, Oracle has always refused to support database on OS virtualized on VMWare (or any VM software other than Oracle VM). Based on that, you could be sure, your "known issue" is not an issue on Oracle VM.
If you want more help, again, give more details about your issue.

Oracle Database Not Starting Up Properly

On VMware there's a known issue with Oracle databases on a Windows client not starting up properly all the time and a manual startup using oradim -start -sid <whatever> is required to get it fully running. I kinda figured that I wouldn't run into the exact same issue on Oracle VM. I created a brand new Oracle VM Windows 2003 32-bit server, installed the Oracle drivers for paravirtualization, and whammo, the problem is still here. I didn't find anything in this forum about the database not starting up, so I'm wondering if others are running into the same problem and how to resolve the issue. Thanks a bunch for your help.

Database not start with srvctl command in rac 10g

hi
when i change parameter in sqlnet file
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) to SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
then database is not started with srvctl utillity but started with sqlplus enviroment.
please help in this issue

Oracle Essbase not starting up

Hi,
We are having issues with oracle essbase server in our oracle Hyperion planning system. The ./opmncl startall process gives below error. checked OPMN log and it says, JVM initialization and singleserver signon are succesfull. However, i see errors in the leasemanager_essbase log. Not sure what this log contains. thanks for help

Is your Database started properly?
Since it seems that EPM components are not able to communicate with the Database.
You can use the following steps to start Database [if Oracle]-
1. START TNSLISTNER FIRST      --- cd <bin folder for the Oracle Database> AND THEN ./lsnrctl start
2. START EMCTL Database        --- cd <bin folder for the Oracle Database> AND THEN ./emctl start dbconsole
8. START DATABASE              --- cd <bin folder for the Oracle Database> AND THEN ./sqlplus
9. Log on to                --- https://<IP address for Database server>:1158/em and click on startup and provide the necessary detailsFollow the steps to start the database if database not starting properly

No Oracle Database Vault component found in Oracle database 10g software. Where can I get the Oracle Database Vault software(10g)?

Database Vault is not a include by default into the database server software. You have to install it in addition of the Database Server Software.
You can download it from :
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database_vault/index.html
Note, you need to have "Oracle Label Security" and "Oracle Enterprise Manager Console" previously installed in your ORACLE_HOME.

Oracle does not start

Hi,
I have installed oracle 11g r1 on centos. When the pc is connected to network, then I have no problem to spart oracle, else the oracle does not starts.
What can I do to start oracle with or without internet connection.
On windows I used a loopback adapter. Is here any method?

HELP! users02.dbf file missing, database not starting

Hello,
I created a datafile via Enterprise Manager named users02.dbf for the wrong tablespace (SYSAUX instead of USERS); obviously this datafile was empty. When I realized my error I went and deleted the users02.dbf file from my file system and not from Enterprise Manager (I know.. stupid..)
The problem that I'm having now is that oracle will not start because it's missing this file, here is the error message:
SQL> SQL> ALTER DATABASE open
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01113: file 5 needs media recovery
ORA-01110: data file 5:
'/var/backup2/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1/oradata/standard/users02.dbf'
I do not hav a backup because it was only a test file.
Which file do I have to modify in order to tell oracle startup NOT to look for users02.dbf ?

Hello! I'm establishing Data Guard on Oracle 11g (x64). OS - CentOS 6.6 x86_x64.
The problem occurs when i'm trying to connect from my primary db to standby.
I expect:
connected to auxiliary database (not mounted)
but getting
not started
And when i'm trying to:
duplicate target database for standby nofilenamecheck dorecover;
I get an expected error:

RMAN saying database not started??

Hi there,
If I log into my database through OEM, it connects fine.
Through Unix, I set my SID and type in:
rman target /
It connects me to rman but says: connected to target database (not started)
I then try and run a crosscheck archivelog all and it says this:

could not obtain a fully authorized session
ORACLE not available
shared memory realm does not exist
Linux Error: No such file or directory.
Any thoughta on what is going on here?

Database not starts Automatically as the OS started

Dear Experts,
please help me i am stuck in a problem.
my oracle 9i release 2 database was working fine till yesterday on windows xp, but today its not working.
when i restart my system i have to start database instance through sqlplus and then startup. I want as OS started oracle instance automatically start.
service of oracle are automatic and running. please help me

Oracle 9i database not starting

Dear all,
need ur help. i have installed oracle9i on wndows xp. then i stoped all the services for 9i. n i installed oracle 10g also.
My problem is that bothy database servies are their and they are automatic.
10 g Database is starting automatically. but 9i database instance is not opeing automatically.
i tried STARTTYPE the opetion of oradim also but its not working.
tell me how to start the 9i database automatically.

most likely while installation you might have given a different port no.As a result oracle has ultimately landed up with having more than one listener.And some times I have seen after installation the previous listener does not get started.So I would like to you to check your listener.
One more point while 2nd installtion you might have changed your oracle home.so while trying to connect to prev instance try using sqlplus from previous oracle_home\bin\.

Oracle 10g XE installation problem on Ubuntu Linux, Oracle will not start

After installing the pakages the error is when I call sqlplus and login as SYS :-
oracleXE: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
ERROR:
ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact
What I have done:-
My system is 64 bit AMD.
I installed .deb package on Ubuntu 9.04 server. I installed the following packages.
1.     ibc6-i386
2.     libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb
3.     bc
4.     oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb.
The Oracle processes do not start after running /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start.
I can tnsping from the local machine.
dpkg -l |grep libaio gives the following:
ii libaio1 0.3.107-3ubuntu1 Linux kernel AIO access library - shared lib

I have been running XE on 9.04 (32bit on my laptop - 64bit on my workstation) and both works fine. I had no problem installing. I followed the directions in documents I found on Ubuntu forums and also google. The document I used to install on 64bit was from http://littlebrain.org
I remember using
dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio1_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio-dev_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio1-dbg_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
and then I used the ./oracle-xe configure as root, the installation was ok - and I have even updated the APEX version to 3.2.1 on the XE installation running on my 64bit Ubuntu 9.04

Oracle XE not starting up

Hi Community,
I have installed Oracle XE on top of RH FC4 running on my VM. When I start XE I get the following error:
[root@vm ~]# /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
Starting Oracle Net Listener.
Starting Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Instance.
Failed to start Oracle Net Listener using /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/tnslsnr and Oracle Express Database using /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/sqlplus.
[root@vm ~]#
I tried capturing the errors which are '/bin/su: /bin/bash: Permission denied', I checked the permissions which are okay. The oracle-xe script fails at line "$SU -s /bin/bash $ORACLE_OWNER -c "$SQLPLUS -s /nolog @$ORACLE_HOME/config/scripts/startdb.sql" > /dev/null 2>&1".
Has anybody encountered this problem?

Win 2003 Oracle 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 - Oracle will not start after upgrade

I have been running Oracle 10.2.0.1 on Windows Server 2003 and I ran the patch set to upgrade to 10.2.0.3. After running the patch I rebooted and now I cannot start Oracle. I get the following error running the startup command:

I think that you may have hit on it. It looks like the DB was not upgraded.
I just ran the patch set package p5337014_10203_WINNT. I assumed that it upgraded both the binaries and DB (if needed). In the alert file I had the following:
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option
Why it couldn't just show that on the screen is beyond me. :)
I found the following steps and it seems to have worked. Thanks for your help!
1. start a new sqlplus session
2. fire the following command on sqlplus
STARTUP UPGRADE
3. The database now opens successfully after which catalog and cataproc
sql's can be fired.
4. Now shutdown and startup the database as the database was started
with UPGRADE option.
pupbld sql can be executed after step 4.
