Hello Folks,
Just Wanted to know according to you, what is better SAP ABAP or Java Developer as a Career.
Presently I have 1 year Exp. as ABAP Consultant and 6 months as Java Developer I should continue in which career ?
Please help me with this.

Hi varghees,
ABAP and JAVA both good only. its all depends on your interest.
In sap modern technologies (Hana native development) are depends on java staff. Means a JAVA developer is know html, css, jsp, servlets, oData, Json, SQL, ....so this will help to lean sap new technologies like ui5, hana native development, serverside javascript, xsjs, River language, Fiori and many more.
As a abap'er he can learn latest technologies like gateway, workflow etc..
so its all depends on your interest.
At last, My interest is java and to be very much interest to learn Hana platform.

Hi,
In ABAP editor we can highlight the line which are to be comment and use cmd+< sign to comment those lines. What will be the command to be used to achieve the same functionality when using SAP GUI for JAVA on an iMac.

Hello Kedar,
please check with SAP GUI for Java 7.20 rev 5 before submitting a bug report.
Also please verify, that cmd-< and cmd-> are not assigned as "Keyboard Shortcuts" in the "Keyboard" control panel of "System Preferences".
Bug reports can be submitted with the [SAP Message Wizard|http://service.sap.com/message], for SAP GUI for Java please use component BC-FES-JAV.

• SAP GUI for Java 7.00 rev 4 - bug in ABAP download

When I try to download ABAP source code or when I use "Edit Locally" in SE38 (the easiest way how to write/edit programs with a comfortable editor), ABAP source is downloaded to my computer with trailing 0x00 bytes. It has small side-effect in Local Editing: new code with this block is uploaded into SAP and syntax check of such program fails.
Using 7.00 rev 3 works fine.
Has anybody idea how to eliminate this bug?
Wishlist, but to another forum: It will be really nice to assign hot-key to this menu item in SE38.
Thank you,
      Pavel

Hello Pavel,
thanks for bringing this to our attention.
This is a bug in SAP GUI for Java 7.00 rev 4 and we will fix this in the next revision.
Regarding the hot-key for the "Edit Locally" menu item, I suggest to give this feedback officially using <a href="http://service.sap.com/message">message wizard</a> on component BC-DWB-TOO.

i wrote the code like
/ Get the field value

var v1 = f1.valueAsString;
if (v1) {

• ABAP or JAVA edition of the sneak preview sap netweaver ??

Hi we want to install a local  enviroment to test sap netweaver, in particular, sap portals.
We have seen that there are two edition and I have some questions:
1.-What's the diference between the ABAP and JAVA edition of the sneak preview sap netweaver? The abap does not include the portals, true?
2.-is possible to install both, ABAP and JAVA edition of the sneak preview sap netweaver?
3.-Are there installation guides and how-to of the sneak preview sap netweaver?
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards

1)  The ABAP side is more of the SAP basis platform which R/3 runs on top of.  You have ABAP programs, Data Dictionary, Function modules, etc.  Portals does NOT run on this side.  If you are just looking for portals, then just install the java stack.
2)  Yes it is possible.
3)  There are a few weblogs on the subject.

• New Server for Preview SAP WAS ABAP and Java

Hi
I wish to purchase a new PC or server to specifically house my ABAP and Java preview installations rather than have them running on an old PC and laptop.
Anyone out there got some recommended configurations?  Max spend will be £1500.
Cheers
Ian

Ian,
Personally I wouldn't be happy running a server 24/7 at home but would want to just switch it on and the server start so would be looking to have some sort of script to run the relevant WAS instances automatically on startup.
160Gb hard drives would be ample. Could consider increasing the storage and then the system could double up as a backup device as well as a SAP server.
I've built systems in the past and that's the approach I'd take for this too. I don't mind buying pre-built systems but I
detest all the rubbish software they bundle with them. If you build it yourself you can install just Windows and it'll run like a dream.
This bundle looks interesting:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-039-OK
The motherboard takes four memory modules so the 2Gb would consume two of these allowing for upgrades in the future if deemed necessary. Add in a couple of HD's, a DVD-RW, a cheap gfx card and a case and you'd easily get change from £800. Could spend a bit more to get more silent components too.
Now I've had a look around and priced them up I'm even more tempted!!!
Cheers,
JB

• SAP-EP in ABAP and JAVA ?????

Hi all,
When i started studying about for implementing each and every thing in EP/EP-related things it can be done in ABAP and JAVA as well.
I am really worried about this i am already an ABAP consultant and though i have knowledge of J2EE i prefer to  follow ABAP version of EP i.e. Dynpro in ABAP and Adobe forms in ABAP..
But i heard that market is good only Java version of implementing the EP.
and SAP it self is suggesting to go for JAVA version.. in that case why has it created ABAP dynpro,ADOBE forms etc etc.
why there are 2 ways (JAVA and ABAP) is it to confuse?? please help .. even if i learn ABAP version of everything will that be useful or not?? As u r already into EP,you guys can tell me is there market for ABAP version of implementing EP related things!!
Please reply.
Thanks in advance.

Srini...

hi srinivas....
this is what i feel abt the question......
to answer ur question, one has to think in the perspective of SAP Labs.
there are two ways of doing what u have mentioned and its not to confuse.....
ABAP is the proprietary language of SAP and therefore u dont find as many developers or intellectual manpower in ABAP as u can find for JAVA.....
SAP is trying to focus and capture the medium and small scale markets and industries for which it requires lot of manpower.....
so JAVA is its choice.....
there can be a lot more reasons behind it.....but this is what i feel.....

• SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.rar CRC error?

HI,
I've downloaded the file:
SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.rar
of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 - Java and ABAP Trial Version on Linux - VMware Edition
four times and everytime a get a CRC error in the RAR file. Is the file wrong or the download incorrect?
Regards, Edwin Slee

Hi Henry.
I’ve downloaded the file again. Now it is called:
SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
But it is a RAR file.
As you suggested I open the file with WINRAR 3.61 and select
Tools -> repair archive
In the directory a file:is created with the name:
rebuilt.SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
The WINRAR message box reads:
Detecting archive type...
---> RAR
Build fixed.SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
Searching for recovery record
---> recovery record not found
Build rebuilt.SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.tgz
Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s002.vmdk
Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s003.vmdk
Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s004.vmdk
Found SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s005.vmdk
When I open this file with WINRAR again a try to extract
SLES10SP1_Test_drive(2)-s003.vmdk I still get a CRC error, the archive file is corrupted.
I think the error isn’t due to the download, because I’ve downloaded the file using three different internet connections (8 times now) and all the files are identical, with a CRC error !

• Sap abap developer or java developer

hi
I am an engineer (fresher) and i have two job offers in my hand one is java/j2ee developer and other is sap abap developer
i am not able to decide which one to choose and i have no idea that which one is better than other.
So if u were in my place then which offer will you accept
Thanks
Viron

Hi Viron,
I had to make a similar decision myself a number of years ago. Based on my personal experience I would say the following:
*ABAP Vs Java*
- ABAP  is a business procedural language, only used with SAP. Therefore you need to ask yourself the question do you want to restrict yourself to working with one product. Also more importantly do you enjoy writing business related reports? i.e. if you would prefer to program games on mobile phones or be involved in developing a cutting edge software product then ABAP is not for you.
-  As a general rule ABAP jobs command a higher salary over Java (in the UK anyway) as it is a more specialised skill. There are far more Java developers around.
- You may feel like ABAP is a step back after programming in Java. Although ABAP supports object orientated programming, web services, web portals ect.. this is not commonly adopted. There is of course a disclaimer here as if you are going to work for a consultancy on green field SAP implementations then you are far more likely to adopt and use the above technologies. However if you are working on an older SAP system or in a support environment most companies are still using the standard R/3 Interface i.e. no web portal and the majority of their reports have not been developed using OO Programming Techniques.
- You could get the best of both worlds if you can get a job as a webdynpro Java developer in SAP. Then pick up ABAP on the side. Having knowledge of both languages would make you highly employable as a web portals developer.
- If you are strongly motivated towards Business Application Programming but would prefer to keep your options open to move into another area later in your career. Then you could look at working with Oracle Fusion, it is a software product based on Java. It is also the 2nd largest ERP tool on the market just behind SAP. This way you are building on your Java programming skills but not restricting yourself to working with an ERP software product in the future.
Hope this is of some help.
Regards,
Phil

• Why SAP has taken Java for their development instead of ABAP completely

Hi
I am Neelima, new to SAP and abap,
Can u please explain
Why SAP has taken Java for their development instead of ABAP completely
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Neelima

Hi Neelima ,
Answer to Q . Why SAP has taken Java for their development instead of ABAP completely ?
First of all in my view SAP has not taken Java as Such instead of ABAP .
But you nowdays whole lot of java is coming in SAP by doors of SAP NetWeaver .
Now why they choosed java only <b> IN MY VIEW</b>
1)     Java is open source so SAP in tie up with SUN can develop SAP specific API’s and that’s what happenings . In Net Weaver Developer studio (NDS of SAP like eclipe of Java ) we use packages ,classes , methods for SAP.
2)     In my view Java is rocking in Web world , Every single popular product ( like IBM MQ series , Oracle Apps ) is making use Java for making things web based .
So why not SAP .
3)     Now data ultimately data is getting saved in XML . And java is best to deal with that . In SAP also Idoc data is stored in XML and so same data can be used anywhere inspite of Platform , technology .
4)     Java has much established base of web Solution , Web services .They have got beautiful architecture so that Best Web sevices can be developed with EJB (Enter prise java beans  ) , sturts  and all .
5)     Now It’s time for SAP to be Mobile Enabled .i.e. to Run SAP over PDA , Blackberry .Such solutions possible with SAP + Java combination .Java provides that framework to understand Mobile OS platform.
6)     Another thing now Its time of EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) . Integration is future . Multiple product integrated and used togetherly , exchanges data. Take case SAP’s message goes to Sieble , people soft .For this Java + XML is best suied as both product understand it .
Utimately SAP is Using java to provide Best Web ERP solutions
But it does not mean ABAP is not there. With webDynpro ABAP  you can do every thing that WD java does . In fact incase if you have existing ABAP recourses then use WD ABAP for developing web services in SAP. In uses OO ABAP as base programming language .
Please refer to this link
IS Webdynpro for ABAP/JAVA is same?
so hope your question is cleared
Cheers

Thanks

Hi,
Tha ABAP stack consists of the Integration Server which in turn contains your Integration Engine and Business Process Engine.
The J2EE stack contains the Adapter Engine and your IR and ID run on the J2EE engine.
Ever wondered how and where the XI pipeline gets executed? It happens in the ABAP stack.
All messsages picked by the Adapter Framework running on the J2EE engine are passed to the Integration Engine, which does the routing. The mapping program again gets executed on the Java stack and the rest of the pipeline servies are executed again on the ABAP stack and so  on.
Take a look at the XI overview doc to understand this better,

• Short dump Error during VM container communication between ABAP and JAVA.

Hello All,
Can anybody please help with resolving the following issue:
Short dump is displayed, when I try to insert CRM product (type: material) in the document (opportunity). This CRM product was created in CRM directly.
When I try to insert ECC migrated material, everything works fine.
Here is the details of dump:
Short text
Error during VM container communication between ABAP and JAVA
Information on where terminated
Termination occurred in the ABAP program "SAPLPRC_INT" - in "GET_PRICING_PROCEDURE_INFO".
The main program was "SAPMHTTP ". In the source code you have the termination point in line 100 of the (Include) program "LPRC_INTF35".
Thank you!

hi Willie,
this is the dump, and i have used the t-code sm52 . the VMC is not active.

Error during VM Container communication between ABAP and JAVA.
What happened?
The current program had to be terminated because of an

What can you do?
Note which actions and entries caused the error to occur.

    Consult your SAP administrator.

Using transaction ST22 for ABAP dump analysis, you can view, manage,

Check whether the VMC is active on your application server. To do this,
