SAP BW Query Vs SAP BW MDX Query

Dear Gurus,
Can someone please tell me the difference and advantages of connecting Crystal Reports2008 to  "SAP BW Query" & "SAP BW MDX Query"while .
My main concern being SAP BI resource is , we don't create SAP MDX queries in BW.
Regards,
-Neha

Hi Ingo ,
So the Crystal report  datasource will be SAP BEx queries when we select the connection SAP BW MDX Queries .
My question is do we have to write MDX statements somewhere in SAP BW  or the system will automatically generate when we select the SAP BW MDX Queries ?

  • SAP BW BEx query - WEBi MDX query

Hi Experts, have we had some discussion on this?
Does MDX query send by WEBi report to BW use the same program to extract data from BW database?
One of the option for WEBi report source of data is to build Universe on top of BEx query. Could you share how this process actually happen.
    I think
    - WEBi query will pass parameters that is relevant for BEx query filter of the universe
    - the BEx query will then extract the data (following normal process if we run BEx query independently)
    - if WEBi has further filtering, it will then get the BEx result above and filter it further ..??
So, how is MDX query come into the picture?
    Or is it:
    - WEBi query and the BEx query will determine what MDX query will be generated, and this MDX query will then fetch the data.
But why BEx query extract data faster then MDX query?
Sorry, i am new to this. hope someone could share some light here. In the meantime i continue to real those documentation and try to get some more ideas of what is actually happening.
    Thanks.

Hi Thanks a lot for pointing this out.
Did i understand it correctly that BEx query is using a different set of program (platform) to retrieve data compare to MDX query, and not MDX uses those program that is used by BEx to retrieve data from BW database and have extra steps on top of that?
Can anyone share what is actually happen WEBi MDX query is executed (how the database is hit with SQL, and what are the tools to evaluate the efficiency of the WEBi (or the used BEx). As for BEx we have RSRT to analyze it right.
And even to test the MDX query using MDXTEST and try to get the data from WEBi report, i found WEBi report still take considerably a lot longer. Why is this so? just because BO is a different system then BW?
And as it's shared the BO 4.0 is using the same platform as BEx to retrieve data from BW database, does this mean we don't need to care about MDX usage in BW anymore as far as BO data extraction concern?
    Thank you very much.

  • Converting MDX query into SQL Server 2008

We have MDX query based OLAP CUbes.
To reduce MDX based dependenies, we have to convert MDX based cube to sql server 2008 based queries.
For this I need expert advise to convert below query to sql server 2008 based query :
    CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.Measures.[Ack Lost]
                        AS 'Sum(PeriodsToDate([Time].[Year], [Time].CurrentMember ), [Measures].[Lost])',
                        FORMAT_STRING = "#,#",
                        VISIBLE = 1;

    Hi Sachin,
According to your description, you need to convert the MDX query to T-SQL query, right?
Your MDX query is calculated measure that return the total value from the first sibling and ending with the given member. In T-SQL query we can use the query as Yogisha provided to achieve the same requirement. Now you need to a tool to convert all the MDX
related SSAS cube queries to MS SQL Server 2008 based queries.
Although MDX has some similarities with T-SQL these languages are in many ways different. Beginning to learn and comprehend SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) MDX queries can be difficult after one has spent years writing queries in T-SQL. Currently, there
is no such a tool to convert a MDX query to T-SQL query since the structure difference between MDX and T-SQL. So you need to convert them manually, please refer to the links below to see the details.

  • Filters not getting passed in MDX query while using SAP BW with OBIEE

    Hello,
I've been working on OBIEE with SAP BW as back-end. I've created some reports & those are working fine when there is less amount of data. But when I try to run a report with 3 dimensions & 1 fact it throws an error saying "No more storage space available for extending an internal table". When I checked MDX query, I found that the filters that I had applied to request & also selected from prompts are not getting passed in that query. So, I tried running a simple request using a simple filter in Answers. Although this request returns results but I can't see filter conditions in query. MDX query always show crossjoin but I can't see filter conditions anywhere.
Is it the normal OBIEE behaviour OR am I doing something wrong in there? Can you please help me out with this?
    Thanks,
    Rocky

    Hello Sainath,
We tried those things. But it is still giving same error.
State: HY00. Code: 10058. [NQODBC][SQL_STATE:HY000][nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. XML/A error returned from the server: Fault code: "XMLAnalysisError.0X80000005". Fault string: "The XML for Analysis provider encountered an error: MDX result contains too many cells (more than 1 million)". (HY000)
The problem here, I think, is the filter parameters are not getting passed in the MDX query. Any idea why would that happen? Is there any setting to do so?
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Bw publish and connections not based on the sap bw mdx query driver

    Dear experts,
we are currently facing a problem with transporting reports that are based on multiple database connections and joined using the cross database join feature of crystal reports. One connection is based on the SAP BW MDX driver, the other is based on a SAP functionmodule.
Now when transporting the reports with STMS and publishing them via /crystal/rptadmin and bwpublish only the bex mdx query connection gets updated. The other connection is still pointing to the original location.
    e.g.
    transporting
    DEV -> PROD
function module still pointing on dev server.
As we need to use the sap default transport system in order to get all features (no SP4 yet) and we can not change the reports manually in the PROD system before publishnig and don't want to mix in the LCM we have no idea how get a work around for this problem.
Changing the database connection via CMC on the PROD system has no effect either.
    Please help.
    Thank you very much!
    Thorsten

    Hello Thorsten,
What you observe is "By Design" of the product. The dynamic update is supported only for reports using the BW MDX driver (or historically for those using the deprecated BW query driver). Other SAP drivers such as the OpenSQL driver which you use to connect to the function module do not leverage the same features when using the SAP Transport process.
You may report directly against your target system when connecting to Function Modules.
    thanks,
    Akin

  • Error in while running a query in SAP B1

    Hi All,
I am creating one Q-PLD so i have to run the following query. Query is working fine in SQL Server

    Where T0.[DocDate] between '[%0]' And '[%1]' And
    T0.[CardCode] between '[%2]' And '[%3]'
And T1.[U_Itmgrp]  between '[%4]'  And '[%5]'   ' This line i am getting error
' If i this line will remove error will disappear or i will pass parameter directly like 'ItemGrop1'
    And T3.[GroupName] between '[%6]' And '[%7]'
    By
    Firos C

    Hello Firos,
Now, first I assume that the t1.[U_Itmgrp] refers to the [ItmsGrpCod] in the OITM.
I have tested this simple query in SAP Business One (Query Generator) as your query uses user defined fields I do not have in any database here.
If this is the case you need the number associated with the item group name. This is the 'ItmsGrpCod' and you can find it in table OITB, therefore I would suggest to add this table to the query and search for the ItmsGrpNam that is the one that appear in the Item Master Data. E.g.:
    SELECT T0.[ItemCode] FROM OITM T0  INNER JOIN OITB T1 ON T0.ItmsGrpCod = T1.ItmsGrpCod WHERE T1.[ItmsGrpNam] = 'server'
If this is the wrong assumption please consider CAST, but in this case you would need something similar to this:
    CAST ([U_PriceKG.NUMBER ]AS NUMERIC(19,6))
Hope this helps, but if it doesn't can you please tell me what kind of values you have in U_Itmgrp and if it is written by the user or there is a formatted search?
    Thank you for your information.

But the problem is that my query get all the payments when the paymeny is by local currency and foreign currency, i mean when is dollars and when is pesos, so even when the payments are in pesos whe need to get the currency of the dollar at these day, so my query get the currency from the table of the currencies when is in pesos and when is in dollars it get the currency from the payments table, so this is my query.

The real problem is that with this, the query just bring me 2 decimals in the currency and i need at least 4 decimal, i don't know what happen because if i run the query in the SQL Management Studio the decimals are correct it brings me more than 4 decimals, but when i run the same query inside SAP Query Manager it brings me just 2 decimals.
    How can i fix that?
    Hope you help me.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards!
    Xavier

    Xavier,
This is because the decimal place setting in General Settings > Display tab is 2 decimals.  Similar question has been raised a few times on this Forum and I will send you the link when I find it.
In the meanwhile the hint is to use CAST function.

  • Mapping query in SAP PI

    Hi Experts,
I have a mapping query in SAP PI. Actually I am mapping the source and target fields, now the problem is.
The sender filed is subnode of the main node, and I have mapped the two main nodes in the sender and receiver together.
Now, whether the sender main node comes all the subnode values will come or do we need to do something else for it.
Both the sender and target main nodes and subnodes can have multiple repetations.
I think One to One mapping wont do in this case. What needs to be done please help??

  • We are interested to know how/where to check query runtimes for any Query in SAP BW?

We are interested to know how/where to check query runtimes for any Query in SAP BW?
Is there any table or program to get the query run time details per query for a particular day.

    Hello Sravan,
Bex statics tables would be 'RSDDSTATHEADER','RSDDSTATINFO' & 'RSDDSTATEVDATA'. all these can found in one view 'RSDDSTAT_OLAP'.
    above can give historical statistic.
For current Query statics : T-code RSRT, and select debug mode select display statistics and then execute.
Once you get the output press F3(one step back), there you can see statics of the query for that particular execution.
