SAP MAM capabilities

I am researching the use of SAP MAM on a system that can be off line for long periods of time. I understand some of it's basic uses...
- Transfer Work Order information from back end system to the mobile device
- On the mobile device...
    - View historical data
    - Confirm task completion
    - Record Time & Materials
    - Create notifications
    - Assign Tasks, etc.
Once Synced with SAP, task confirmations and Material confirmations update Billing and Inventory.
My question is this...
How much functionality does MAM have while disconnected? For example, can maintenance planning run and create service orders on the mobile device while disconnected (assuming measurement documents are created on the mobile device)?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi John,
You can at MAM as a tool that allows a user ,while disconnected from the backend, to perform a limited set of PM/CS functions, like create/change order/notification, material/time confirmations, etc.
To be able to do anything, mobile user needs to perform synchronisation (via SAP Mobile Infrastructure as a middleware) to get all necessary information downloaded to the local database of his device. Then activities (that you listed in the beginning can be performed).
Until device is synchronised again with the backend any changes are local to the device and unknown to the R/3 system.Synchronisation is always triggered by the mobile device and if it is successful order/notifs, etc. are updated or created in R/3 system.
To answer you last question: maintenance plan can run in R/3 anytime (it obviously does not run on the device), then order MUST be assigned to a mobile user, then AFTER mobile device triggers synchronisation, those orders that are assigned to that specific user will be downloaded to the mobile device.
Once order is downloaded, mobile user can do changes to that order (like uesr statuses, operations, material/time confirmations, ect.).
In MAM database structure, though, meas. documents are not related to orders directly.
The way it works: when order is downloaded to teh device it brings equipment/func.loc associated with this order (either on header level or tech.objects list). Equipment/Func.loc in turn triggers meas. points associated with this technical object to be downloaded to then. Now! user can create meas. docs for the meas. points.
After device sync, any changes user has done since last sync will be uploaded to the R/3 system.
Hope that helps,
Larissa Limarova

  • SAP MAM 3.0 Configuration

    Hi All,
I have been trying to configure SAP MAM 3.0 since last week. There is lot of documentation and different SAP Notes which are making me of lots of confusion. I have downloaded all the required guides of SAP MAP Configuration guide, master guide and installation guide. Is there any other simple way to go through and config SAP MAM 3.0. Our Mobile middleware is Mobile 7.0 and SP13. I have checked all the previous forum discussions about this subject. Please share your experience who successfully implemented SAP MAM 3.0.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ameer Baba.

    Hi Ameer,
well, getting MAM 3.0 working as such is not that difficult at all - to be honest. The problem comes later with the fine tuning. But we want to make it simple and easy - so you get the data down to the device and it gives you a starting point for all the docu.
Ok, we say you have installed properly the MI 7.0 system, you can sync a mobile client, get a Mobile ID and a device ID and all works fine that far.
    Good, then lets start!
The good thing is: on the backend, all necessary items are already there! The thing we need: configure an RFC connection from the backend to the middleware and one from the middleware to the backend. Look into the doku, cause the naming of these is unfortunately not free of choice. In my version it was necessary to name it MAM_MI.
Ok, RFC established, next step is to upload the SyncBO definitions. Open the MEREP_MIG screen on the middleware and upload the SYNCBO definition from the CD that fits the backend plugin you have. This is usually either PI2004 or PI2005 in case of MAM3.0. In there you see if the naming of the RFC is correct - cause it shows you which RFC name it needs. If yours is not correct - simply create the one you need. Do not try to rename the requested RFC here in MEREP_PD - it is much easier to simply create a new RFC!
Ok, now lets hop to the backend. We need to configure the MAM in SPRO. We open SPRO, drill down to the MAM settings and setup the stuff there we need. Basically we start with just as less limitations as possible by just adding the user, init the screens for order and notification selection and so on. Straight forwasd engineering and from the screens you should easily see what informartion you need to enter. If you have problems with that, ask your PM or SD people, they can help you with that - for sure!
Compile and enable all these SyncBOs, you can even run the replicator for T01 BOs already. Check in Table MEREP207 on the middleware if all data is there. If you do that before the SPRO steps are done, you will get the message, that there is no mobile scenario for certain users - that is the reason why we do SPRO first.
Then it gets a little more problematic: we need to implement and switch on Server driven replication pon the backend. Cause this is a little bit of a hassle (implement notes, switch on several settings, bla bla .... follow this guide:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/818ac119-0b01-0010-ba8b-b6e3f3490a63
Voila, now even the server driven stuff runs.
Upload the XMAM30.war file to the NWA, assign it to the device and deploy it ..... After a successfull deployment you should see the request of data in MEREP_MON for all MAM syncbos. Voila - now the basic stuff works fine.
Whatever scenario you have chosen, you could get orders down if all is right. Lets say you said orders are assigned by person responsible. Assign the order to you in the backend and sync, then this order should come down to the device withj all other required thuings.
If an order is not comming down - well, then go to the backend and run MAM30_001_GETLIST for your user - see if it is listed there. If not, check SPRO again.
It is as easy as that to get a running MAM version at the first place. Takes you about 1 hour plus the server driven stuff - rest is then on top and fine tuning!
Hope this helps to walk you through. If not - on my card you see my credentials. Feel free to contact me on either Skype or MSN - then I will guide you through.
    Have fun!

  • SAP MAM and IntelaTrac

    Hi ,
We have come across a case in which we need to know what are the advantages of SAP MAM over Intelatrac ( a field force automation software)
Has any one done this kind of study ? Which suite suites in which environment and how does one go about deciding which one to go for ?
After initial reading i felt that thare are too many components one would require in SAP MAM as compared to intelatrac.. any comments ?
    -Mahesh

I am not listing down advantages of one over the other but here are few things that need to go in before a decision is made.
    1) Do you want a Offline or an online solution. Sounds likeIntela is a on line solution? Online solutions have there own set of problems e.g. its like working on internet and  suddenly the net going down... we loose all the captured data. Network getting slow and page navigation getting frustrating.
    2) How do you deploy the application to large number of users and how do you track them.
    3) what happens when upgrades are needed and what is the upgrade strategy. e.g. will you be able to work with a few devices on version 1.0 and few on 1.5 if you are going in for a phased upgrade?
    4) Would you have multiple users using the same device ?
There are many more questions that can come up. But first decide wether you need an online or a off line solution.

  • SAP MAM Solution

    Hi All,
I would like to know if SAP has announced that they will no longer develop the MAM (Mobile Asset Management) platform and have selected partners like Blackberry, Sybase etc. for mobile solutions. If this is true, what would be the roadmap for customers who are already using SAP MAM solution?
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Upload / import the SAP MAM 2.5 components Sync BOs

    Hello,
in the SAP MAM 2.5 installation guide, i read page 7 middleware section:
chap 3: import or upload the SAP MAM 2.5 components (Sync BOs) to the SAP MI server. To import or upload the Sync BOs definitions for SAP MAM 2.5 do the following:
    a) use the transaction MEREP_MIG
    b) to import from a transport choose import. To upload from a ASCII file choose umpload from file.
so my question is: which file ? or which tranport order ?

    Hi Rahul,
thank for your answer ! just a precision: i have only to upload this file and then follow the rest of the installation guide steps ?

  • SAP charting capabilities (ABAP)

    Hi everybody,
I did some research into SAP's charting capabilities and I am a little confused about the different ways charts can be created.
One key feature I need in my charting application is event handling, for example when a user clicks on a pie wedge.
Right now I see three different ways of creating charts in ABAP
    - Using the GRAPH_... function modules for example GRAPH_2D
    - Using the Graphical Framework as in GFW_PROG_TUTORIAL
    - Using the CL_GUI_CHART_ENGINE class
Is there any major difference between these three? I know that GFW and CL_GUI_CHART_ENGINE support event handling. Do the GRAPH_... FuBas so?
BTW, is it possible to use the xml file created in Chart Designer in one of the aforementioned solutions?

  • SAP MAM development

    Hi experts,
where can I found any documentation of this topic? I need make some changes on the PDA side.
    thanks in advance,
    David

    Hi all,
First of all, thanks for all the information!
I think there is a little misunderstanding, or maybe I am wrong
SAP NetWeaver is the web-application you can use to analyze, administrate, etc... your mobile applications?
I am actually talking about the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.1, which is in fact just an extended Eclipse environment. There is some kind of mobile update pack which you can find here: [SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 SP3|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c0846cb5-59ec-2a10-46a2-cff9cd9b8fc3]
My question was if you can maintain and develop in JAVA your MAM25 application with this version of the Netweaver Developer Studio? I did notice a perspective Mobile Infrastructure as in version 7.0, and I can compile the JAVA code, but I can't run the application (see error in original posting) and it seems that no JAVA files are generated from the JSP files.
I guess it is just a matter of making the plugins compatible for Eclipse 3.X, because the plugin system of Eclipse 2.X is not compatible with the plugin system of Eclipse 3.X. But because of the Mobile Infrastructure perspective that I did notice, I was thinking that this was done. But this seems not to be the case, or I did do something wrong...
So the only question is: can I use SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio 7.1 (aka Eclipse 3.X) to develop in JAVA the MAM25 application?
    Thanks for the help!
    Best regards,
    Diederik

  • It is possible to do real synchron synchronizaton on SAP MI (MAM) ?

Hello I have question about SAP MI / MAM apps and synchron process :
SAP MAM or SAP MI own apps synchronization between MI Client and MI server provide with following steps :
    a) start sync on Client
    b) every relevant sybcBO object on Server start synchronize
    c) sync stop on Client
    d) every syncBO objects (from server to client) are on status Waiting (on MAM apps, where is many objects and huge of datas, syncBO object still adding the counter of number of synBO Waiting objects)
    e) next synchronozation on Client MI
    f) if every syncBO will be prepared on status Waiting, start real synchronizaton and syncBo status Waiting is changed to status Finished
result - all real datas are synchronize after 2 synchronozation processes.
Is it OK? I need make a real "SYNCHRON" synchronization !
Did I need to change some parameter on client or server for "real sychron" synchronozation ?
    Thanx for hepling me
    PS: the parameter on MAM "ALMConfig.properties" - UPD_SYNCTYPE=SYNC; DWN_SYNCTYPE=SYNC

    Hi Michal,
Parameter in ALMConfig will only work if after you start MI you go to MAM link. In this case, MAM app will be instantiated by tomcat and config file uploaded.
Easier and more sure way of doing real synchronous sync is to set parameters in MI config file. You can push them down to the device as an add-on.
Here are parameters that need to be in /settings/MobileEngine.config file for MI2.5/7.0:
    MobileEngine.Sync.RepetitiveSyncEnabled = true
    MobileEngine.Sync.TimeBetweenRepetitiveSyncs = 10000
    MobileEngine.Sync.MaximumNumberOfRepetitiveSyncs = 5
You may need to increase settings if your system is big or connection slow.
I think there is a note for MI where you can donwload this as a ready to use add-on.
    Cheers,

  • SAP PLM, ERP, PPM relationships

    Hi PLM experts,
I have some questions about the SAP PLM products as below, would you share your insights? Thanks.
    1. Most of PLM sub-modules are the functions of SAP ECC components as I see. So what's the relationship between SAP PLM and SAP ECC?
    2. SAP PLM can be installed as an independent instance or as an integrated instance with SAP ECC as I read from document. Is it correct?
    3. I read SAP PPM can be installed as an independent instance as well, what's PPM relationship to SAP PLM?
    4. Most PLM user interface is using Web UI. Is it based ABAP webdynpro or Java webdynpro? Someone told me it's based on FPM framework in ABAP wedynpro. If you know, please share me your idea as well.
    5. Any workflow function in SAP PLM? If user requires workflow to manage R&D process in SAP PLM, is it using similar ABAP workflow technology as in SAP ECC? Or java-based workflow as in BPM?
    Appreciate your expert share.

    Hi Justin,
    see responses below:
    1. Most of PLM sub-modules are the functions of SAP ECC components as I see. So what's the relationship between SAP PLM and SAP ECC?
SAP PLM capabilities are an integral part of SAP ECC, some are natively available like SAP GUI based BOM Management, Classification, Variant Configuration, Engineeering Change Management, etc., some , especially those in the PLM Web UI, need to be activated through Business Functions made available in various standard SAP ECC Enhancement Packages and partially licensed, like e.g. Engineering Record, Product Structure Synchronization, Access Control Management.
    2. SAP PLM can be installed as an independent instance or as an integrated instance with SAP ECC as I read from document. Is it correct?
    Yes.
    3. I read SAP PPM can be installed as an independent instance as well, what's PPM relationship to SAP PLM?
SAP PPM is a a standalone product with its own license. It integrates into SAP ERP/PLM and other legacy and Business Suite solutions.
    4. Most PLM user interface is using Web UI. Is it based ABAP webdynpro or Java webdynpro? Someone told me it's based on FPM framework in ABAP wedynpro. If you know, please share me your idea as well.
PLM Web UI is ABAP WebDynpro.  And yes, it uses Floor Plan Manager.
    5. Any workflow function in SAP PLM? If user requires workflow to manage R&D process in SAP PLM, is it using similar ABAP workflow technology as in SAP ECC? Or java-based workflow as in BPM?
SAP Business Workflow is leveraged in SAP PLM. Anyone can feel free to use SAP BPM as well, especially if workflows are crossing applications, and need to be orchestrated accordingly.
    Hope this helps.
    Ulf.

  • How to determine role authorization of user in MAM?

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to SAP and SAP MI, and I am currently implementing (or "enhancing") a MAM.  I have the following question on user authorization:
In terms of role authorizations, does anyone know how I can determine what roles an authenticated user have from SAP?  For example, if user A logs into the MI Client, and if this user accesses the MAM, is there a way for the MAM to know what kind of user roles he/she has?  Is there a SyncBo that will give me such info?  I checked the JavaDocs for the SyncBo's, but they have NO descriptions.  The closest thing that I found was in MAM090 (Interface com.sap.mbs.mam.bo.MAM090).  There are getter methods for getRoleGen(), getProfileResource(), and getPartnerRole().  Are any of these usable?
Are there any good documents that I can look at to determine what each SyncBo's does?
    Many thanks!
    Jeffrey

    Hi Jeffrey!
Here are the 3 different checks you have to look at"Users & Authorizations" for setting up your MAM Users.
    (1) SAP Backend:
(1a) The SAP MAM User who synchronizes with the Backend from the MI Client should have all necessary authorizations for Plant Maintenance Components of the SAP System that are associated with your MAM Scenarios.Pl refer to the following SAP Authorization Objects I_ALM_ME ,I_AUART,I_BEGRP,I_BETRVORG,I_CCM_ACT ,I_CCM_STRC,I_ILOA,I_INGRP,I_IWERK,I_KOSTL ,I_QMEL,I_ROUT ,I_ROUT1,I_SOGEN,I_SWERK,I_TCODE ,I_VORG_MEL,I_VORG_MP ,I_VORG_ORD,I_WPS_MEB ,I_WPS_REV in your Backend System and have it assigned to the User Profile, based on your requirement.
(1b) Service User for setting up the MAM & MI Landscape: This user logon info has to be setup in the RFC Destination that is associated with your MAM25 SyncBOs, to logon to the Backend System and this user should have the basic authorizations required to establish the connection.
    (2) MI Middleware: The SAP MAM User who synchronizes with the Backend from the MI Client should have the following Authorization Objects assigned to his/her profile. S_ME_SYNC, S_RFC, S_TCODE.
    (3) MI Client: Refer to MI Security Guide.Pl note that the MI Client MAM User is same as the Middleware User and the Backend User. You should be taking care of this already. This is just a FYI.
Let me know, if you are looking for any other additional info.
    Thank You
    Gisk

  • Where can i download MAM 3.1 for MI 7.1?

    Hi experts,
Where can i download the MAM 3.1 for MI 7.1??? I want some xAPP for test Mobile 7.1
    When i go to:
    http://service.sap.com/ ->Under SAP Support Portal ->Software Download ->SAP Support Packages ->Entry by application group->SAP Application components->Mobile Applications ->SAP MAM
    Only i can see:
    SAP MAM 2.5 (ON NW04)
    SAP MAM 2.5 (ON NW04S)
    SAP XMAM 3.0 (ON NW04)
    SAP XMAM 3.0 (ON NW04S)
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,

    Hi Victor,
as the previous post already said:
There is actually no Standard xAPP for MI7.1 available. If you ask SAP it is possible that they allow you to be part of the RaampUp Customers. But the actual available Apps like MAM or MTT are not supported on MI7.1. Because of that there is no download available for MI7.1 from SAP for these apps. And so you will not find it on the WEB or on any CD, cause it isnot available for the public.

  • How to cerate MAM application?

    Hi
I am new in MAM.Please tell me the step by step procedure that  how to create  MAM  application.
It is same as smart sync application ?means create project and application then  import meRep.xml file
    Regards
    Ruturaj

    Dear Ruturaj,
Your question is not clear, but assuming that you want to enhance/ customize / troubleshoot MAM. Please download / take/ request your admistrator to give you the MAM eclipse war file which includes the full source of MAM. Now, once you have the .war file in your HDD, import this as a new MI project (File->Import). Now you will be able to modify/edit/ build customized version similar to a smart sync app.
    Regards,
    Veera
    Edit:
You can get the different guides including the enhancement guide of MAM3.0/MAM2.5 from http://service.sap.com/instguides under SAP Components->SAP Mobile Applications->SAP MAM.
