SAP NW7.1 with 10g and Netapp SAN on VM-Ware

Hello together,
I want to install several NW CE 7.1 Installations with an 10g Oracle DB on Windows Server 2003.
Now, our admins talk about the Windows Hard Disk Drives like C: or D:
Some admins want to implement different hard disk drives (like c: and d: etc.)  to the windows server 2003 to optimize the disk access, even if the server is connected to a netapp NAS. They say the the Windows 2003 server optimizes the disk access if more then one disk drive is configured.
Some other solution architects says, that this is not necessary, because the C: partition an D: partition and e:partition is not on  a real hard disk, but on a SAN connection. It will be ok, if you define a c:partition with windows and a d:partition with oracle and sap on it, because the SAN is so fast that you must not seperate the disk load.
How do you configure your Systems with oracle ?
best rgards,
Carsten Schulz

Hi,
I would do the mixing of Local Storage + SAN Storage for the same to have optimal file distributions.
Along with the suggested partition layout by Eric (as well as by SAP and Oracle) , I would add the additional stripped partition on the local Hard-disk of the Box, which will be specially used for Paging activity (Virtual Memory).
It is good to distribute all the suggested files (of different purpose) on different disks using RAID levels to deal with Data loss situation as well as to achieve higher I/O performance.
Also the RAID levels play an important role here. Storage Partition with RAID-5 level is recommended for Storing the SAP Data files (Oracle Database files).  I am preferring RAID-0 level for OS executable and for SAP Executable (sapmnt) on local Hard-disks (or on SAN storage LUNs).
*Origlogs and Mirrlogs files * are very sensitive & important files (online redo log files) which contains all committed+non-committed transaction entries and which are required to deal with Instance Recovery. So they are required to store at different locations to deal with any unexpected File loss/corruption situation whenever demanded in future.
Along with the other files, the mirroring of Control files are also recommended on separate Disks location. A control file is very necessary file for the database to start and operate successfully.
Separate location for storing Offline redo-log files (ORAARCH) is recommended to deal with Media recovery which is required in performing Complete/Point-in-time Database recovery.

  • Can I use Oracle 11g Developer tools with 10G and XE

Hi, I want to use Oracle 11g ODAC 11.1.0.6.21 with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio with 10g and Xe . Will there be any issues. I want to do so because I am not able to see Oracle Database project in Visual Studio when I install Oracle 10 g developer tools wherein I see that in Oracle 11g developer tools. Please suggest.

No there are no issues. Just be sure to install ODT in a separate location than where XE is installed.

  • SAP logon pad with NCo and visual studio 2003

    Hi All,
I'm struggling to find a way in visual studio 2003 utilising the dot net connector to allow the user to select the SAP system, client user name and password in a similar way that happens when done with activeX controls.
E.g. with ActiveX this sort of code:
Dim sapConn As Object 'Declare connection object
Set sapConn = CreateObject("SAP.Functions") 'Create ActiveX object
If sapConn.Connection.Logon(0, False) <> True Then
The false in the last line prevents a silent logon i.e. a little pop up window is created with the server, client etc. for the user to select and fill in.
I have been trying to use methods like availabledestinations and getdestinationbyname as well as the destinationname property of the saplogon proxy I dropped on my form. In fact I can see all the destinations when I drop down on the destinationname property on the proxy logon object. I though of maybe binding this to a list box but I can't seem to get that to work.
I also tried setting the SAPgui value to 0,1 or 2 on the proxy logon object but this had no effect.
Is there not a simple way of doing this similar to the ActiveX approach?
PS. This is a windows forms project and not a web project.
    Thanks,
    Grant.

    Hi Jitesh,
    Thanks for the quick response!
I declared _e as an iDictionaryEnumerator, is that correct?
So the code looks like this:
    Dim _e As IDictionaryEnumerator
For Each _destEntry As System.Collections.DictionaryEntry In SapLogonDestination1.AvailableDestinations
Dim _destText As String = _e.Value.ToString
Dim _destKey As String = _e.Key.ToString
            Next
I get a Nullreference error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object at the line Dim _destText As String = _e.Value.ToString.
    What have I done wrong?
    Thanks,
    Grant.

    Hi,
    ... ("PASSWORD EXPIRED") ...
Try to log on OS level with db2<sid>, <sid>adm and sap<sid>/sapr3 (not from root level, but rather by providing a username / pw combination).
Most probably the password on OS level has expired.
Please be aware, that you have to use dscdb6up to change passwords for <sid>adm and sap<sid>.

  • MAC (10.6.8) users having permission issues with windows 2003 AD and NetApp SAN environment.

I have created a cifs share that is being accessed by Mac users that are part of a windows 2003 AD.  When the user edit data and save it back to the share, the security permission are reset and none of the other users can see the new data unless the permissions are refreshed on the windows server. This is a 'known problem' as discussed on the MacWindows site, see http://www.macwindows.com/More-on-OS-X-conflicts-with-Windows-Server-Deduplicati on.html
It appears to still affect Mavericks 10.9.5 at least from the lack of any positive reports to the contrary. It is perhaps a bit late but it would have been worth signing up for the public beta of Yosemite and testing that and if needed reporting it as an issue for Yosemite as this will be getting more bug fix attention than Mavericks now.
I would agree turning off de-duplication is not a desirable solution, however other possibilities to consider are installing the standard Samba software on a Mac and using that instead of Apple's SMBx software. This is done by using the SMBup installer See http://eduo.info/2013/07/13/smbup-faq it does not officially list Mavericks but I did see at least one report that it still worked. A second possibility is to install ExtremeZ-IP which installs an AFP server on to your Windows Server and also gives the bonus of supporting Spotlight searches.
Note: You should only try SMBup on a test setup first.

  • Problem with 10g and 9i in one machine

    Hello,
I installed 10g in a pc where 9i is already installed. It was installed in its own home directory. My problem is that when I try to access it using Enterprise Manager, or Sql*Plus, or Developer, I get either the service name could not be resolved, or cannot allocate a dedicated server. The service is up and running.
The curious thing is that I can access it with the command from a command window:
    sqlplus
    'scott/tiger@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CAC403JN.EBOT.CA)(PO
    RT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(ORACLE_SID=ANEC)))'
Both the 9i and 10g have the same HOST and PORT but different SID.
How do I fix my configuration so I can access 10g using the using tools?
    Help.
    Thanks,
    gk

If you are using local naming (tnsnames.ora file) and you have multiple Oracle Homes, one of two things has to happen
    1) Every TNS entry has to be duplicated in each tnsnames.ora file.
    2) You need to create a TNS_ADMIN environment variables that points at the location of the single tnsnames.ora file that all applications should use.
My personal preference is to go with option 2.

  • Looking for Globalization Example with 10g and JDBC

We are converting our product to support multiple languages. I've created a 10g UTF8 database but I'm not sure how to instruct the developers on how to configure the application (java, jdbc thin and tomcat). does anyone have a good example of this I can read? Is it just a matter of having the application side set the appropriate NLS_LANG setting?
    Thanks, Woody

As far as "support for multiple languages" is concerned, there are two different areas named with this term. The first area is the ability of an application and the database to accept and process data in multiple languages. For this, you generally just need the right character set on the server side. Most burden is on the client that has to provide appropriate input methods (keyboard), fonts, and display support. The second area is the ability of the application (and indirectly the database) to provide the user interface and application behavior that is generally expected by (culturally correct for) native speakers of those multiple languages. To this area you count things like translated prompts, and other user interface elements, dates and numbers formatted according to local custom, names and other text sorted in an appropriate (dictionary/phone book) order, etc. The requirement to set NLS parameters for the database to fulfill requirements of the second area depends on how the locale-sensitive functionality (locale=language+country) is implemented. If all processing is actually done by an application, then the NLS parameters in the database do not really matter.
The platform of the server does not usually have much influence on the supported languages.

  • Lync 2013 - Generate CSR with EKU and additional SANs?

    Hi,
I'm in the middle of setting up both an Edge server and Reverse Proxy (Which will be on an F5 appliance). According to
this article, I have to generate the CSR using powershell to retain interoperability with AOL. After reading
this article it looks like I can use the same cert on both the Edge and Reverse Proxy, so long as I specify all the SANs in the CSR.
The problem is, I can't figure out how to generate the CSR in powershell and add additional SANs, like I can in the GUI. But I can't use the GUI because it won't add the client EKU needed for AOL. What's the syntax to add additional SANs via powershell?
I have read that using powershell will inherit the SAN configuration, but I have found no way to confirm what SANs it is actually requesting, since the CSR is encrypted text.
EDIT: I should add that our org already has an existing wildcard certificate that we use for other sites, but its SN is *.domain.com (which I believe is not supported) and does not have the additional needed SANs. I assume that this cert cannot be used but
please let me know if I'm mistaken.
    Thanks in advance.

    Matt,
Depending on how many of these clients you have will dictate your solution. If you don't have many then you can simply install the Cert chain manually on each PC in the Local Computer > Trusted Root Certificate Authority store.
If you have tons though you are possibly best getting a public cert which covers your internal namespace also.
So as long as you are not using some internal name like .local or .internal and you are using the same namespace as your public domain then you are ok.
You would however need to specify the names you would be using on your reverse proxy server for meetings and dialin and lync discover for mobility on this cert which may be costly!!!!
So your cert would then have the following for example:
    Subject name:
    sip.mydomain.com
    SAN:
    sip.mydomain.com
    mydomain.com
    lyncfe01.mydomain.com -- INTERNAL Front End Server Name(s)
lyncpool.mydomain.com -- (If using Enterprise Edition)
meet.mydomain.com -- Internal users will require this for connecting to the meeting from internally, unless you are forcing them out and back in through your reverse proxy server.
dialin.mydomain.com -- As above for meet
    lyncdiscover.mydomain.com
    etc.....
To be honest, if it was me then i would go with manually installing the cert (or use SSCM or whatever you use for client management if possible)
    good Luck

  • Any problems with heat and fan noise on Guild Wars 2 Macbook Pro retina?

I am thinking to start Guild Wars 2 Mac beta on my Macbook pro retina, but i have been reading in different forums that it heats up the system and that the fan kicks off really loud when playing the game. Anyone has any experience on this? Any guild wars 2 gamers please give me some feedback.

I have been playing GW2 for a while now on Beta. The game runs choppier than windows but I think that's because it's a Beta version. I bet after they finish optimizing it things should change, even heat.
As for the heat, it gets super hot. So hot the keyboard gets hot, and when I push in the keys, I feel heat. It's warm enough to cause concern. I don't know if it's bad or not, but the dude at the Apple Genius/Store said, the MBPR knows when it gets too hot and it'll let you know. He said if it plays and nothing is warning me then it's fine. The MBPR won't allow itself to go to catastrophic failure due to heat.
So I took his advice and have played. Just Monday (October 1st 2012) I played for a good 5 hours non-stop and nothing came up so if the Apple Genius guy is correct then I wouldn't worry about it. I do have AppleCare so if something does fail then I will blame the apple genius guy.
It's a fun game, my first MMO, but it's too hard for me sometimes. I don't like that

  • New Security Feautres/Privs/Roles with 10g

    Hi,
I am trying to submit a report to mngt. about all the new roles and privs with 10g and any modifications to existing roles and privs. I think I have read about 4 different online manuals for 10g from the oracle site and I have not been able to find a whole lot of details. I have come accross the change to the CONNECT role and about the new user TSMSYS created by default when you install Oracle. But my understanding is that 10g has some new privs and some new roles and mods to existing ones. Can someone please help me with this. All the 10g new features books only talk about encryption and the removal of all privs except CREATE SESSION for the CONNECT role. Even the Security Admins guide does not really give a whole lot on this topic. I though maybe this forum might be able to help me and I am sure there are many people out there that would also like to understand this information if they are also planning on upgrading to 10g.
Thanks in advance my fellow DBA's

There are a lot of good things that I am not sure if 9i covered, but the new EM is quite elegant and has policies validations that make security issues easier to detect.
If you open the web-based EM in 10g and navigate to Policy Violations in the Administration page. It basically shows all the potential security issues that you may want to look at.
    For example:
Oracle by default grants execute to UTL_FILE to PUBLIC, Open Ports, Securing the Listener, etc. You will also find that Oracle recommends you strong password the well-known users, and lock and expires these user account if you are not using them as some of these users have DBA privileges. The advantage to this is that no one has access to these account directly until you unlock the user, yet you have access to the packages that are created in these accounts that have been granted access to.
I also found that all users can see all other users - that is:
    SELECT * FROM ALL_USERS
Because ALL_USERS is a public synonym and SELECT is granted to public on this synonym. This is the reason why you want to enforce strong passwords. This can be done by creating profiles and writing a function that will enforce passwords, or use the standard password function supplied by Oracle (utlpwdmg.sql).
I am sure my comments didn't answer your question fully.

I have been a loyal customer for years and have a hot spot because internet options are very limited in our rural area.  I have stayed with 10G since the beginning.  Most months I don't use the 10G.  Verizon has no problem with me paying for Data I don't use.  This month my daughter comes home from College and she accidentally uses 24G.....14 over get blind sided with $140.00 in overages.  I called Verizon today......stopped in to the store today......My neighbor told me they waved charges for her one time.  Lots of charges.....But I'm am getting no help.  Not even an offer of a payment plan to help me out.  I went back just 6 months and I have over paid for 19G.....Seems like they would like to help out their loyal customers!!!!     Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with them?   We are not wealthy....or I would just pay this and walk away......

There is a big misconception in what customers believe a cell carrier is obligated to do.
You pay a set price to use up to that amount of xx data. It makes no difference if you use it to the paid limit or way under. Its like peace of mind when you don't have to worry about a data counter.
Your daughter used the data, your plan is quite clear of what overage charges are. Why should or would Verizon wireless just forgive the charges because you are a customer? Your daughter used the data, get the money from her. That is the responsible thing to do.
There is no "I have been a loyal customer so please remove the $120, or $250, or $2,000.00 since I did not mean to use it"
Your electric company, or gas company or any other company does not remove valid charges. Why should Verizon wireless?
Just pay the invoice and don't think you are being mistreated because Verizon is a business and not a charity.
    Good Luck

By the way, Is SAP Server IP added to Relay Agent for sending or receiving mail ?

    Hi,
This problem is a classic problem of mail routing via Exchange. Exchange like most mail servers use the domain part of the email address as a means to route mails. So I will make an assumption that your main company mail addrss is "User @ fes.com".
So when you send a mail to the "User @ fes.com mail" address the mail is delivered to your Outlook mail address as this is the default route for company.
    (Q) So how do you get your Exchange server to relay the mail into the sending SAP system?
    (A) The easiest way would be to setup and unique mail domain for your SAP system. I always recommend "user @ client.sid.company.com" which in your case would be "u1 @ 100.PRD.fes.com". You can then instruct Exchange to send any emails addressed to 100.PRD.fes.com domain to your SAP system. Also using this format of address you can configure multiple mail connections into multiple SAP systems.
    (A) Another answer would be to enter the "Full" email address (LOcal and Domain part of address) into the routing rule for Exchange e.g. "U1 @ fes.com" so that all emails addressed to this user will be delivered into SAP. However this method requires a lot of Admin as you will have to update Exchange with ALL email address that need to receive emails. Also if your corporate mail address is "U1 @ fes.com" then all mails will be forwarded to SAP.
I would definitely NOT recommend this method but the decision is up to you.
P.S. The IP address of the SAP system is entered into the mail header of the email. This is standard practice in SMTP relay. You can suppress this header in Exchange
    Hope this helps

  • Issue with materialized view and fast refresh between Oracle 10g and 11g

    Hi all,
I've hit a problem when trying to create a fast-refreshable materialized view.
I've got two databases, one 10.2.0.10, another 11.2.0.1.0, running on 32-bit Windows. Both are enterprise edition, and I'm trying to pull data from the 10g one into the 11g one. I can happily query across the database link from 11g to 10g, and can use complete refresh with no problem except the time it takes.
On the 10g side, I've got tables with primary keys and m.v. logs created, the logs being of this form ...
CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG ON table WITH PRIMARY KEY INCLUDING NEW VALUES
On the 11g side, when I try to create an m.v. against that ...
    CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW mv_table REFRESH FAST WITH PRIMARY KEY AS SELECT col1, col2 FROM table@dblink;
... I get an ORA-12028 error (materialized view type is not supported by master site).
    After running the EXPLAIN_MVIEW procedure it shows this;
REFRESH_FAST_AFTER_INSERT not supported for this type mv by Oracle version at master site
A colleague has managed to build a fast-refresh m.v. from the same source database, but pulling to a different one than I'm using; his target is also 10g, like the (common) source, so I've no idea why I'm getting the 'not supported' message whilst he isn't.
I've been able, on previous projects, to do exactly what I'm trying to achieve but on those someone with more knowledge than me has configured the database!
I'm now stumped. I'm also no DBA but despite that it's been left to me to install the new 11g database on the 32-bit Windows server from scratch, so there are probably a couple of things I'm missing. It's probably something really obvious but I don't really know where to look now.
If anyone can give me any pointers at all, I'd be really grateful. This question is also duplicated in the Replication forum but hasn't had any replies as yet, so I'm reproducing it here in hope!
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve
