First take backup of the existing run folder to oldrun
now, copy the existing SAPCAR file to another location like /home/tmp/SAPCAR
also remane saposcol to saposcol.tmpold
now, extract the SAPEXE file on /home/tmp/SAPCAR from the /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run directory.

And when I do SAPCAR u2013xvf SAPEXE_15-10006264.SAR, SAPCAR only decompress a few files and I´ve this error:

Instead when I decompress the SAPEXEDB_15-10006263.SAR, SAPCAR does this correctly. I´ve tried to download again the file but the error is always the same.Could someone help me?

Now, I´ve unpacked the files but when I do the file copy (in order to upgrade the kernel), I´ve these errors:

SAPCAR error on UNIX AIX

Am trying to apply SPS to our EP 7.0 portal. So I downloaded the files from SMP and dumped them into /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in directory including the SAPCAR file. I renamed the SAPCAR_XXX(some file name ) to SAPCAR.
I am getting errors while trying to uncar some SAR files. SAPCAR itself resides in /EPS/in
SAPCAR -xvf SAPEXEDB_114-20000979.SAR

Hello everyone,
I am facing trouble with Solman 7.0 installation on windows 2003 Enterprise SP1/ Oracle 10.2.0.2. It stops at ADS User password stage & shows up the error popup. When I check the logs I get the following error. Tried investigating in the notes & SDN network for know issues but to no success. Tried starting from scratch by reinstalling OS, DB then SAPinst, but hit the same issue. I tried extracting SAPEXE.SAR using SAPCAR it gives the error. "
SAPCAR: could not open for writing sapcar.exe (error 28). The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."
It looks like SAPCAR is being use If anyone has faced this issue and can share some light on it I shall be great full.

Hi,
The problem is that you are using the file SAPCAR.EXE for uncompromising the kernel that you have downloaded from market place.
at the time of uncompression a new SAPCAR.EXE file is generated and it want to replace the existing file but that is being used for the uncomression. therefore you get that error.
please change the existing file say SAPCAR1.exe and then try again. it will work fine.

I am trying to update R3trans and tp programs and ran into this error uncarring the files using sapcar.

If you want to upgrade SAPCAR , replace the SAPCAR in exe directory.
execute the following command
which SAPCAR
this will show you the path.
For windows , renameing to .zip doesnt help. download the SAPCAR ( the name is same for all OS ) from
service.sap.com/patches --> Entry by Application Group --> Additional Components --> SAPCAR then windows.
if its downloaded to C drive
c:\ sapcar.exe -xvf < *.SAR > , < *.SAR > is your tp/r3trans

Hello Eric,
Please refer to SAP Note 130683.
Make sure the sidadm has rwx persmissions on the file being uncarred and all the files in the directory where SAPCAR resides including . and .. (. & .. are usually hidden)

SAPCAR error when extracting kernel patches

Hi gurus
I am having the following error when extracting so kernel patches:
SAPCAR could not open for writing sapcar.exe <error 28>.The process cannot acces the file becaues it is being used by another process.
Maybe its saying that because sapcar is the on that is extracting this patch an now it cant open it.i have followed not 211077 but still not winning.
on Windows2k3 64bit
Any ideas welcome

you can rename the sapcar.exe to oldsapcar.exe and execute oldsapcar.exe
or you can move to a different directory and execute from there.

Error in Netweaver Mobile 7.1 Installation

I am trying to install NW Mobile 7.1 on MS SQL server 2005 with Windows 2008 Enterprise Edition O.S.
I used a new version of the SAPinst and the pre-requisites checker .xml file since the downloaded versions are from 2007.
I am facing an error as such-

hello,
please check and ensure that:
- your database server is started.
- your database instance is running and you can connect to it through the network interface
- the entries in secure store contain the correct options for
connecting to the database. (These can be checked via     configtool and this only applies to the case when JLoad is run using secure store parameters)

Error in Installing NWDS

Hi, All
I have a hard time in installing NWDS.
Actually, I got 'JIDE15_0-10002804.sar' and 'SAPCAR' files from my co-worker.
I saved these two files in C drive, and typed 'sapcar -xvf JIDE15_0-10002804.sar' at DOS prompt. But, I got error messages.
The first error message is 'Could not open the ICU common library'.
So, I added 'icudt26l.dll','icuin26.dll','icuuc26.dll' into system32 folder.
After that, the second error message is "Could not open libsapu16vc71.dll". So, I added it into system32 again.
Finally, I did run it again and got the third error message.
I got this: " SAPCAR: error opening JIDE15_0-10002804.sar
SAPCAR: 0 file(S) extracted"
Now, there is nothing I can do.
Does anybody have any idea to solve this problem?

this may be a prudent solution, but this saved me good time.
i tried the extracting on my machine and i was confronted with the error. i moved the sar file to my colleagues machine and extracted and it worked.
probably you can check extracting on a different machine.

Hi!
To be sure try to unpack file OR110264.SAR manually using SAPCAR.
If this also fails, this file is currupted. Then download fresh installation source form SMP ( https://service.sap.com/swdc ) - at least the database part.
By the way: Please ensure to always use the latest version of SAPCAR.

SAINT error in phase DISASSEMBLE

Hi,
I am performing Delta-upgrade of component ST-SER from 700_2007_1 to 700_2008_1 via SAINT on our Solution Manager 4.0 system. (Windows server 2003 / MS SQL)
The SAR archive (KITLONB.SAR) is of 141 MB.
while trying to uncar i get following message:
SAPCAR: processing archive D:\SPS17\ST-SER_2008\Inst\KITLONB.SAR (version 2.01)
x EPS/in/CSR0120031469_0029513.ATT
x EPS/in/CSR0120031469_0029513.PAT
SAPCAR: error reading from D:\SPS17\ST-SER_2008\Inst\KITLONB.SAR
But the EPS files have been loaded in the system & visible in the queue as well.
The import fails in phase DISASSEMBLE with following error:
Error in phase - DISASSEMBLE
Reason for error - PATCH_FILE_READ_ERROR
Return code - 12
Error message - OCS Package : SAPKITLONB
File has Full Control given to groups Administrator, SAP_LocalAdmin and SYSTEM.
What could be the reason?

Check your SAPCAR executable.
File hasn't been uncared properly. You may uncar on your desktop and then transfer to server.
Other option is to load from SAINT tool > Load > Package from Application Server > Give location and it will uncar at right place.

At first try to extract the SAR archives into /sapmnt/<SID>/exe, because of /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe is just a symbolic link and maybe the permissions are different (maybe you have checked the link with 777).
Please try the following:
> mv /sapmnt/<SID>/exe /sapmnt/<SID>/exe.old
> SAPCAR -xvf <PATCH LOCATION> /sapmnt/<SID>/exe
After that run the saproot.sh script in /sapmnt/<SID>/exe and try to start the sap system.
Normally the error 28 shows some files which have the problems (maybe loaded or still open), if it is a library (*.a, *.so files) then execute the following command as root:
> slibclean

I am trying to update my brtools patch level.I download DBATL640O92_48-20000198.SAR file
.but when i am trying to extract this file ,i get a message

After that i update my SAPCAR tool, than it gives
an error

But i have more than 30 G.B free space

Spacar error says format error in header

I was executing the command sapcar -xvf K-1507DINSTPL.SAR I get an error saying there is a format error in header.

I just had a look at the thread after solving the problem.
Actually I had the solution in the PDF that I was suggested to read when I updated SPAM from 700/0023 to 700/0030.
Debasis I came across the same thing which is as follows
"SAPCAR error: format error in header" when extracting
an SAR archive
Symptom: When you unpack an SAR archive, the SAPCAR utility
terminates with the error message "SAPCAR error: format error in
header".
Reason: The SAR archive was packed using SAPCAR Version 700. Since
changes were made to the SAR archive format in this version, older
SAPCAR versions can no longer unpack the archive (also refer to SAP
Note 892842).
Solution: Use SAPCAR Version 700 or SAPCAR Version 640 patch level
4. These versions can process the new archive format (refer to SAP
Note 892842).
