SAPConsole:  Distributed vs Central

Hello everyone,
I have been questioned by the Basis team and also by management as to which is better for the project:
A)   to have a single  "Central"  SAPConsole  ( located in Geneva, Switzerland at the Corporate Data Center )
or
B)  have a SAPConsole installation at each affiliate ( one SAPConsole per warehouse, with warehouses located in Mexico, Columbia, Florida, New Jersey, Geneva, Argentina, Brazil, and China, etc., etc., etc., ... )
What are the Pros and Cons of the two approaches???   What do you recommend?
Thanks, Vincent

Hello Jo,
Thanks for looking at this.
Well, we have a global company with manufacturing sites in many countries.  At each manufacturing facitlity we will implement a SAPConsole WM RF solution.  It is my question which makes more sense, a single SAPConsole for the whole global project or a SAPConsole locally at each affilate?
I don't think it is a complex question and there are obvious advantages to both approaches.  There can be Pros and Cons assigned to either approach by someone who has no first hand experience in such an implementation, this I know.  For example, my manager who is new to SAP has offered his opionions and advice; of which many are very good.  So this is not really what I was looking for.  In fact, I was hoping to have some one weigh in who has good experience, in a <u>global SAP RF WM</u> implementation and maybe learned the hard way as to which approach offers what benefits.  Nevertheless, all commentary is welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Vince

  • Distributed app, centralized reports

    Visual C# windows Application
    Hello!
We have an app that we install on the users machine, reports that are stored on the server. We want the user to be able to run and display the reports on demand. We dont want to use the browser, we want to keep the user inside our app. where should I start? The main question I've been asked is how can we avoid distributing the reports to all the users? I imagine that it would be best if we could have a central repository for the reports, and allow the app on the users machine create an object from the remote report... Please somebody tell me where to look.
    -L8r

    You have got 2 options:
    1) Create a windows app and call the reports from the server. In this all you need to distribute is the Windows app. not the reports.
    2) Use Crystal Report Viewer Product. In this users can just view the report, nothing else.
    Hope it helps.

  • Configurations needed for distributing central contract to backend system

    Dear Gurus,
I have configured central contract and getting approved in the local SRM system. Now, I need to distribute the central contract to the backend system. I have already get the PI interfaces configured using the integration scenario Central contract management.
Now, I assign the backend POrg as well as the target values for the backend contract and try to release the central contract. The central contract is getting released. However, no contract is getting created in the backend system.
I donot see any XML messages generated in the SRM system (SXMB_MONI).
Do I need to maintain some settings in the SRM system to enable the distribution of contract to the backend system?
    Thansk and regards,
    Ranjan

    Hi,
When one creates Local Contract; there is one option named 'Distribute' on contract screen. On drop down; one mention back end system. After clicking on it; contract has been created in ECC.
If contract is not getting generated in back end; refer SAP Note: 609222.
Check whether you find any error/information message in Txn BBP_CTR_MON.
    SRM Settings:
    1. Implement BBP_DETERMINE_LOGSYS: Determines whether contract is to be created in SRM or ECC.
    2. Assign transaction type to attribute CT_PROC_TY in Org Structure.
    3. Check whether have maintained message type BLAREL, COND_A, BLAORD.
    4. Assign role SAP_BBP_STAL_START_PURCHASER to process contracts.

  • Badis for Central Contract Replication from SRM to ECC

    hi
    experts
i am working on a scenario of replicating the central contract from SRM 0.7  to ECC via XI/PI
let me know what are the Badis to be implemented in ECC for the Same
    looking forward for your  reply

    Hi,
You do not need any Badi in ECC to distribute central contract to your backend system.
if your ECC system is on ECC 6.0 enpk 4.0 or more,
you can directly distribute your central contract from SRM to ECC system using standard ESOA services.
    Thanks and regards,

  • WSRM setup for Central Contract

    Hi,
We want to setup SRM 7 Ehp1 system without using PI. For this WSRM setup is required for exchange of documents between SRM and ECC. I am referring to the configuration guides in service market place and OSS note # 1043195. But there are couple of settings which are not clear. Has someone worked on this before and can guide me?
    Thanks,

  • Central Contract Management

    Dear SAP Experts,
I have a few questions regarding our implementation of SRM and ECC.
FYI, we are planning to use SRM 7.01 and ECC 6.05 as backend.
We’re planning to utilize Central Contract Management functionality in SRM, where we negotiate the price in SRM then we distribute the contract to ECC. In ECC we create PR, which have reference to this contract (contract number in SRM is different with ECC). So this PR will have assigned source of supply, is it possible for us then to create PO automatically from tcode ME59? The reason we ask this because we see in documentation that every PO in ECC created with reference to contact in SRM, ECC will need to check first the current price in the SRM contract, so we would like to confirm whether it is working if we use ME59 (we plan to use ME59 as background job and unfortunately we don’t have the testing system yet to verify this).
We’re planning to have PR created in ECC. However we would like to utilize MDM catalog as well. Is it possible that during PR creation we can select items from the catalog?
We’re planning to have implement SRM 7.01 in 2 waves. In first wave we will only use Self Service Procurement and Strategic Sourcing (using classic deployment where the leading PO is in ECC). However in the second wave, we’re planning to implement SUS (Supplier Collaboration). In SUS, we would like to activate the business function, so the vendor will response RFx and participate in auction from SUS itself. The question is…is it possible for us to have it planned like this? For example, in first wave, the RFx and auction will use SRM server itself, however in the second wave, we will switch it to SUS. Our concern is that the switch will happen to the productive server already. Is this okay?
    Thanks
    Varian

    Hi,
When you distribute the central contract to ECC system, it creates a new contract in ECC system.
When you create PR, you can assign this contract as source of supply.
Then automatic PO creation if your settings for automatic PO is maintained.
In ECC 6.04 also catalog integration is possible. So for your version 6.05 there is absolutely no problem. The same OCI interface parameters have to be maintained in MM system for catalog.
Your two stage implementation is absolutely possible.
    With Regards,

  • Central Contract in SRM 7

    Hi Experts,
We are on SRM 7 Ehp1.
    ECC Ehp4
Need a clarification on Central Contract of SRM.
When we create and distribute the Central contract to backend, the price is shown as Zero in Backend.
When the PO is created in backend, from where will the price be picked. Is it SRM?
    Is this correct?
    Thanks
    Aditya

    Hi,
    Are you creating service contracts?
When we worked on Hierarchy contract we used MDM to get hold of those. As there were several issues in distribution.
    1. Basic Contract can contain line items.
    2. This is where we have used MDM to store contracts & used accordingly.
You can distribute parent contract (with child contracts) as of I fell. Give a shot & let us know the ensues.

  • Migrate Central instance from 32-bit to 64-bit

    Hi All,
We have SAP in Distributed Environmnet( Central Instance running on 32-bit windows & Database instance is running on 64-bit AIX).
Since there are lots of memory dumps , we have decided to upgrade Central instance from 32-bit to 64-bit windows.
We don't want to disturd database instance as it is alredy running on 64-bit.
Please share your thoughts to accmplish this task.
    Thanks in advance
    regards
    Venu

Ah ... during this migration, it'd also be nice to migrate your CI to a virtual name.  This way, for future migrations, you won't have to change the profiles.
If you decide not to migrate to a virtual name, then make sure you adjust the default and instance profiles to reference the new server name for CI.
If you decide to migrate to virtual name ...
    1.  Assign 2nd static IP to your server.
    2.  Insert your virtual name in the following registry and reboot:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0 > create new multi string variable with name "BackConnectionHostNames" and put as value the virtual name.
yourHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters > create new multi string variable with name "OptionalNames" and put as value the virtual name.
    3.  Adjust the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts to include mapping of 2nd static IP to the virtual name.
    4.  Map your virtual name to the secondary static IP in WINS.
    5.  Make sure you rebooted the server.  Log into the server and do a "net view virtualname" and "net view physicalname", both should be successful.  Do not continue until this is successful, most problems are caused by DNS vs WINS, some corporations need the mapping in DNS and not WINS, some the otherway around.
    6.  Change the user variable to include SAPLOCALHOST and SAPLOCALHOSTFULL, set both to the virtual name.
    7.  Adjust the start and instance profile of the CI to include SAPLOCALHOST and SAPLOCALHOSTFULL.
    8.  Cycle the SAP NT services to make sure the new user variables are adapted.
    9.  Adjust all default and profiles to adapt to the new CI.
    10.  Adjust STMS to use new CI name.
And, you can also migrate DB to a virtual name as well using the same registry entries.  Except DB name doesn't require it's own IP, so it can share the same IP as the physical server.  Adjust the user environment variables and SAP profiles afterwards to adapt to new virtual name.

    Hello Jay,
It for us looks and feels like any other document if you create or change a contract document.
But if you open the contract in display mode the contract is displayed in a different scheme and the load/loader looks as if it were SAP CRM instead of SAP SRM.
Did you check opening a contract from POWL in display mode? (happens for all contract transaction types: cctr, pctr etc.)
    Kind regards,

  • Sch Agr with Central Contracts

    Hi Gurus,
    Need some inputs:
We are implementing classic SRM 7 with BE ECC6 Eph4.
Did anyone work on distributing the central contracts to BE as Sch Agr.
    1. Any lessons learned, challenges. etc.
    2. Heard there are issues with Multiple line items?
    3. Will the scheduling agr release information get updated in the central contracts? Reason for asking this we would like to trigger the central contract alerts.
    Any info is appreciated. Thanks

    Processing Delivery Schedules
You can use this business process to process delivery schedules. Scheduling agreements are a form of purchase agreement for which the delivery of the total quantity is over a certain time period in a delivery schedule, consisting of lines indicating the individual quantities with their corresponding planned delivery dates. Scheduling agreements support the following procurement forms:
    Standard
    Subcontracting
    Consignment
    Stock transfer
Scheduling agreement releases are issued to the supplier, requesting delivery of the required materials on the dates shown. A creation profile determines which event triggers the creation of a scheduling agreement release, how the delivery dates are displayed (aggregation and release horizon), and whether backlogs and immediate requirements are determined. A tolerance check can be carried out for releases that are created due to changes to the overall delivery schedule in the system.
Scheduling agreement processing is heavily integrated with planning functions. The scheduling agreement releases can result directly from a planning run without requiring further involvement of a purchaser. Before you can use scheduling agreements, you must maintain the source list, including the MRP indicator for relevant items.
Suppliers can issue confirmations (order responses) to the relevant purchasing organization indicating their compliance or noncompliance with the scheduled delivery dates.
You can work with or without release documentation for scheduling agreements.
    With release documentation
The schedule lines in the system have internal character and are not transmitted to the supplier until you explicitly create a scheduling agreement release. This may take one of two forms:
    Forecast (FRC) delivery schedule
    Just-in-time (JIT) delivery schedule
All scheduling agreement releases are stored in the system. Thus you can monitor the scheduling agreement releases, or compare selected scheduling agreement releases with each other.
    Without release documentation
The schedule lines are immediately transmitted to the supplier.
    Process
The following business process runs in SAP SRM:
    Create/process scheduling agreements
    Release scheduling agreements
    Transmit and monitor scheduling agreements
    Process delivery schedules and releases
    Transmit and monitor delivery schedules
    Administrate scheduling agreements
Monitor/view list display of scheduling agreements

  • What I want to do with OSX Server this Summer...

I would like to develop and deploy a number of services for my 10.4 server so I can better manage all the Mac machines within my control. First, though, here's a little about my topology. We are a Windows 2003 based enterprise where all services are delivered via Microsoft implementations. However, since we do have a large number of Macintosh computers, I have setup a 10.4 server to take care of centrally maintaining and backing up data/file systems. So far, I've got this server up and running for data backups, but there's so much more I want to accomplish:
    1) Configuring it as a Apple Software Update server
    2) Configuring it to update all 3rd-party client apps. such as Adobe CS 2, Quark, Stuffit, etc so that all Macs are using the same software versions
    3) Creating and distributing a centralized FONT repository
    4) Configuring it to run various routine maintenance scripts to optimize client machine's file system health (such as cache cleaning, Macaroni, prefs pruning, etc)
Your suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated and if you can direct me to the proper documentation I would be really greatful.
In review, I'm looking to setup and use my 10.4 server to update client machine software, synchronize 3rd-party app.s, run vital maintenance routines and installing a centralized FONT repository for better font managment and control.
And finally, how does Apple Remote Desktop fit into this scenario? And where do I find it on server 10.4?
    Thanks,

    In order:
    >Configuring it as a Apple Software Update server
    1) Open Server Admin and connect to your server
    2) Select 'Software Update Server' and click start.
You're now running your own software update server. It will automatically download updates from Apple and make them available to clients (you have some additional controls in Server Admin which you can play with).
The other half of the equation is telling client systems to use this machine as their Software Update server rather than Apple. This might be a little tricker depending on where/how the users authenticate to the network. If you're using a directory server on the Mac you can just use Workgroup Manager -> account -> Preferences to set the user's Software Update Server.
If your users authenticate against the Windows directory server, though, that won't work, so you'll need to change it for each user. To do that, run the command:
    <pre class=command> defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "http://your.server.address:8088/"</pre>
    on each user's workstation.
    >Configuring it to update all 3rd-party client apps. such as Adobe CS 2, Quark, Stuffit, etc so that all Macs are using the same software versions
This is a little trickier to do since each application can have its own installation rules. Apple Remote Desktop can help here (can you manage application installations from one location), and is probably your best bet.
    >Creating and distributing a centralized FONT repository
Fonts are not my strong point. I'll defer to others on the best way of managing fonts under OS X.
    >Configuring it to run various routine maintenance scripts to optimize client machine's file system health (such as cache cleaning, Macaroni, prefs pruning, etc)
Apple Remote Desktop, without a doubt. You can run any command on any number of workstations on any schedule.
The ARD agent is pre-installed in Mac OS X Server, but it's no use without the main admin app, which is an additional package you'll need to buy. Either the 10-user version for $299, or the unlimited user version for $499 (in both cases the user number refers to the number of workstations you can manage).
