SAPu2019s content server (DMS) and EDMS with ECC 5.0

Hi all,
I am in the process of setting up SAPu2019s content server (DMS) and would really appreciate some insights as what version I should be installing.
We are currently running ECC 5.0 (640).
I am also interested in utilizing the Easy DMS functionality and would also really appreciate some insight on that as well (version etc).

Hi Iqbal,
unfortunately I'm not a Content Server expert. From DMS point of view I would recommend you to use always the latest Content Server patch level (see SAP note 514500). For the decision on the content server I would recommend you to contact your local consulting organisation which will support you in finding the right content server for your business requirements.
Regarding EasyDMS and the version you should use I can provide you the following suggestion. General there are currently three versions of EasyDMS which are 6.0, 7.0 and 7.1.
If you would like to run EasyDMS on Windows 7 PCs too, then you have to use version 7.1 because only this version supports Windows 7. Otherwise I would recommend you to run the latest patch level of verison 7.0

Dear Experts,
I have few queries regarding Content server,
As i know content server is used to store documents of any type , like Autocad, Primevera,word, excel etc....
when we install content server do we need to install the , Autocad, Primevera,excel ..etc....on the client or server side. how its going to support these file types.
secondly i came to know that content server 6.4 can be install on unix, if so then do we need to install Autocad ,primevera,excel in unix enviroment.

Another things is that all ECC servers Dev ,Qas and Prd are on AIX, and customer wants to install content server on windows, can it be possible.
will there be any inconsisteny issues if you proceed with such hetrogenous landscape.

Content Server Report- Document types with file sizes & Status history

We are about to start with implementing Seal Systems, however we are a global company with to start with 4 content servers in different regions of the world. In order to determine bandwidth for future strategies, I need to know what is stored on each content server in terms of document types, type file and size of files attached to each document type and of course date created and status changes of each document.
In addition we are of course contemplating usage of SAP Cache servers, not only for better responses, but also for backup purposes.
What we are using is SAP ECC 6 with the content servers using MAX DB. I have contemplated creating a Z program in order to return only the required information for import in Excel where I can then manipulate the returned result to a report which fits us.
But before I start with this, does anyone know of any report or tools just to do that within SAP? I have seen these capabilities in other PLM solutions.
I would appreciate any feedback in this regard

Hi Joe,
maybe transaction DB20 could help you here.
From DMS side tables DMS_PHIO2FILE and DMS_PH_CD1 are most relevant for original data stored in Content Server.
Regarding the changes of documents report MCDOKABL will show you all the changes done for a specific document.
For maintaining and monitoring content repositories please see transaction CSADMIN.

Content Server 6.3 integrate with Portal 6.0 possible?

I have successfully installed Content Server 6.3 to store documents and attachments from R/3 4.6. Now, I want to integrate Content Server with Enterprise Portal 6.0. Does anyone know how to configure the portal so that the documents and uploads in EP will be transferred to Content Server instead of storing it on local?

You can integrate the portal with DMS/CMS by using the DMS connector or DMS repository manager. The DMS repository manager can be dowloaded from sap service marketplace.

There are however some restriction regarding versions.
You could also try to set up a webdav repository manager.

Content server pros and cons when compared to others

Hi DMS Gurus,
we are in a process of deciding which storage area to go for, and the client is kneen on going for a common existing server, as he is not kneen on spending on DMS content server.
my question are,
can we transform any existing file server or system (which is already in use) in to a content server just by installing windows 2003, and content server CDs. if so please tell me how to go about this.
is content server only the preferred storage to process the original files in through WEB DMS, or will Starage in SAP Database,Vault or Archive also will give this funtionality.
let me please know what are the major Pros (benifits) and cons (demerits) which Content server storage gives when compared to other storage.

You use SAP ArchiveLink as a communication interface between the document management system and the archiving systems. You can display the archived data using the SAP ArchiveLink viewer. Many times there are documents generated which needs to be tied to a DIR and hence you use the archive link to tie these to a transaction and the originals can be stored in the content server.

Content Server on Virtual Machine with VPN

Hello everybody.
I want to create a test-environment with a Content Server. Regarding to the needed Operating System I decided to use VMware Workstation to virtualize the OS and the Content Server.
Host-OS: Windows XP Professional
Host-IP: 192.17.1.151, Port 1090, not used
Guest: Windows 2000 Server
Guest-IP: 192.168.159.128, Port 1090
Goal: The goal is to log in into the company-network, and connect to the local, virtual Content Server from the central SAP-System.
Network:
With VMware it is possible to use different types of network connections. I decided for NAT. With this it is used to share to host´s IP-Adress.
Furthermore it is possible to create a Port Forwarding so that requests defined ports of the Host are forwarded to the guest/VM. For this I created the following port forwarding in VMware:
1090 = 192.168.159.128:1090
Tests:
Now, I tried if it is possible to reach the port.
1. Command on VM: telnet 192.168.159.128 1090 => Port available
2. Command on Host: telnet 192.168.159.128 1090 => Port not available (That´s okay)
3. Command on Hostt: telnet 192.17.1.151 1090 => Port available
Result:
When I am using CSADMIN to connect to IP 192.17.1.151 port 1090 there is the following error message: "Error in HTTP Access: IF_HTTP_CLIENT->RECEIVE 1 ICM_HTTP_CONNECTION_FAILED"
Test 2:
I created port forwardings for the following ports: 80, 8000, 8080, 1095, 3200, 3300. Still the same error message.
Test 3:
I tried to use the Content Server directly in the Network without VPN. The Content Server works correctly, but this is not an alternative to the VPN-Connection.
Question:
From VMware-Side everything looks okay. I already discussed this with different specialist from a VMware Forum. But now I need to know, why it is not possible to connect to the Conntent Server. Port is available but it is not possible to connect to the Content Server. Have I forgotten something?

Usually this error shows up when you icm paremeters have not been set, check that icm/server_port_0 is set with value PROT=HTTP,PORT=80

Does RMSDK come with Content Server 4?
The company I work for is looking to open its own eBooks market place.
The books have to be DRM'ed, so they are considering the use of Content Server 4.
does RMSDK require a different license (and cost) that content server 4?
I cannot find any info online and the resellers we have contacted have custom RMSDK implementation which cost more than Content Server 4!

Older CUA version connectivity and functionality with ECC 6.0

Our current Solution manager box, which is used for CUA, is on Netweaver 04 (sap basis 640 patch 16). We are in the process of upgrading to ECC 6.0.
Generally speaking I would recommend having a CUA box at the same level or higher than the child systems. However I'm would like to know if anyone has experience with a similar version scenario as described above. If so what issues did you run into and or other items should I be aware.
Also, ECC has several new system parameters and other password related changes. Can any of the newer password functionality be used if CUA is still on the older version?

Do we need an External Content Server to be configured with OLM

Would like to know if an external content server is mandatory for Oracle OLM on R12.
I have read notes that Content Servers cannot be hosted on the middle tier of Ebiz but have also been told from other sources
that it can be hosted but has some limitations interms of file types supported.
Would like to know if the above is true and if so what are the limitations

An external content server is not mandatory for OLM rel. 12.
You can use an OLM content server, an external content server or any other server that can serve up the content based on URL's.
Oracle does not support an OLM Content Server being hosted on the eBiz middle tier, even if it has been seen to be working in some installations.

vc está querendo utilizar um outro content repository com o GRC, que nao ou standard NFE_COR_DOC_REP, ou mesmo modificar esse content repository pra usar algum outro content server que nao a tabela /XNFE/CORCONT?
O NFE standard é feito pra trabalhar apenas com o content repository local. Note que nas chamadas do KPRO (function modules /XNFE/CORE_KPRO_XML_SAVE & /XNFE/CORE_KPRO_XML_READ) sao todas feitas sincronamente sem tratamento de erro de comunicacao. Em caso de erro, ele simplesmente dá um raise em alguma exception. Ou seja, se você alterasse o content repository standard pra apontar pra um content server externo, no caso de a SEFAZ te devolver o protocolo de autorização e a comunicacao com o content server falhar, vc teria simplesmente um raise da exception sendo jogado pro proxy, ou seja, um dump "na cara". Não teria restart amigável pelo monitor nem nada.
Talvez seja uma feature request a se solicitar ao time de desenvovlimetno do GRC, mas por enquanto, eu nao cosideraria essa opcao de usar um content server externo, simplesmente pelos riscos envolvidos.

Dms and Edms Problem

I face One problem is I add document from DMS (SAP Gui) it not show in EDMS but When I Store Document from EDMS ,a document show in DMS both document are store in FTP serve which i found but I cant understand why this happened I do this operation from Same user also.

Thats the way the easyDMS solution has been conceived.You would have to utilize the 'Find/Search' feature for accessing documents already created in R/3 DMS.
In easyDMS,the structure consists of a 'Public' folder,a 'Private' folder and 'Search' result.By default,only the 'Search' feature is available when you login into easyDMS for the first time.Thereafter,the system prompts you to create a 'Public' followed by a 'Private' folder.
'Public' and 'Private' folders essentially are documents in SAP easyDMS in hierarchical structures and save the files in the style of Microsoft Windows Explorer.'Public' folders provide quick access information and documents for all persons involved in a project and 'Private' folders serve as personal folder of the documents.

SAP Content server will not communicate with MaxDb 7.8

Hello all
For the past few months we have been testing an upgrade from SAP CS 630 to SAP CS 640 and from MaxDb 7.6 to MaxDb 7.8. We are also moving both applications to a new server. We have test the process at least 10 times in the past 4 month and this weekend was go live. We shut down CS and put the database in ADMIN mode to do a backup of the most recent data. The database was transfered to the new server and was restored using Data Manager 7.6. Once the restore was complete, we ran the MaxDb 7.8 upgrade program as ADMIN and it appeard that eveything was ok. One other note, because on the old server the database was approaching the 90% mark, we increased the nubmer of data areas on the new server from 15 to 25. Everything appeard to go ok during the upgrade and I was able to connect to the database using Data Studio. Once we confirmed the database was what we though was stable, we CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS of the new server to that of the old server. We had done this during our testing and eveything appears to work OK with our test SAP instance. Well, this time when we connect to CS via the localhost connection, CS returned that we were on line with SAP, but that we were not connected to the database.
This is what we normally see:

Not sure what happened, but we ended up going back to the old server until we can determine what went wrong. Does anyboy have any suggestion as to why this could have happened and what we need to do to fix the issue.

Thanks all for the help, but we found the problem. 6 weeks ago we upgraded to ECC 6 and at that time we have a problem with the certificates, so we could not retreive any documents. There is a check box in the CSADMIN configuration that disables the check for the certificate, so we disabled the check. Everything work OK with patch version 9, even when we fixed the certifiactes. For some reason patch 11 did not like that box checked. Once we on checked the box, everything worked fine. Since we want to know why this makes a difference I have opened up a note with SAP to see if they can explain the problem

No e-mail account will send what pops up is the message thatI don't have an outgoing e-mail server because the one I want to choose has wrong network key because I took the network key out and don't know where to get the correct one because it was filled in by the system already

Ich betreibe im Büro und zu Hause jeweils einen Microsoft Home Server. In beiden Netzwerken ist neben diversen Windows Rechnern auch ein Mac vorhanden.
Die jeweilige "Konfiguration" ist wie folgt:
- Apple MacMini (Late 2011, als HTPC) mit Lion per Wlan über AVM Fritzbox 7390 an Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 (Windows Server 2008).
- Apple iMac (Late 2010, Arbeitsplatzrechner) mit Snow Leopard per Lan über AVM Fritzbox 7270 an Microsoft Windows Home Server V1 (Windows Server 2003)
Alle Betriebssysteme sind auf aktuellem Stand.
Die Fritzboxen laufen mit der jeweils aktuellen Firmware
Nun zu dem Problem:
Beide Macs unterbrechen ca. alle 30 min den Kontakt zum Server. Die Verbindung wird zwar ca. 1-2 Minute später wieder aufgebaut, aber am MacMini (HTPC) macht sich dadurch bemerkbar, daß der Film oder die Musik für obige Zeitspanne stoppt und danach weiterläuft. Beim iMac (Arbeitsrechner) kann ein zuvor vom Server geladenes Dokument dann nicht mehr gespeichert oder gedruckt werden.
Der MacMini hat dieses Phänomen direkt bei der Verbindung mit dem WHS gezeigt. Der iMac hat jedoch zuvor ca. 1,5 Jahre ohne Probleme funktioniert. Dieses Problem tritt bei dem iMac (Snow Leopard) erst seit ca. 6-9 Monate auf.
Da unterschiedliche WHS und OS X Versionen betroffen sind und auch unterschiedliche Fritzboxen verwendet werden und scheint ein allgemeines Problem im Zusammenspiel Windows/OS X vorzuliegen.
Bei dem iMac fällt der genaue Zeitpunkt der Verbindungsunterbrechung nicht auf.
Bei dem MacMini läßt sich der Zeitpunkt dagegen relativ leicht bestimmen. Aus der Ereignisanzeige beim Windows Server ergibt sich leider kein eindeutiges Fehlerbild. Zu dem jeweiligen Zeitpunkt taucht aber relativ oft, aber nicht immer (!), in "Windows-Protokolle Sicherheit" der Fehler 4625 ("Fehler beim Anmelden eines Kontos") auf. Dies würde auf eine Rechteproblematik hindeuten. Das Konto des Mac kann aber alles was ihm auf dem WHS erlaubt ist.
Beim Suchen nach einer Lösung (bisher leider erfolglos) bin ich u.a. auch über das Problem des Server Infrastructure License Services (silsvc) beim Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials gestolpert (auch alle 30 min!). Vielleicht ein Zusammenhang?

I run the office and at home each a Microsoft Home Server. In both networks, in addition to various Windows computers, a Mac is available.
The particular "configuration" is as follows:
- Apple MacMini (Late 2011, as HTPC) with Lion via wifi via AVM Fritzbox 7390 to Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 (Windows Server 2008).
- Apple iMac (Late 2010, desktop PC) with Snow Leopard by Lan on AVM Fritzbox 7270 on Microsoft Windows Home Server V1 (Windows Server 2003)
All operating systems on current conditions with all patches and updates.
The Fritz boxes running with the latest firmware
Now to the problem:
Both Macs are loosing every 30 minutes the contact to the server. The connection is "re-"established about 1-2 minutes later. On MacMini (HTPC), the film or music is stopped for the above period. Thereafter, the film / music goes on. With the iMac (workstation) a document loaded from the server can no longer be saved or printed.
The MacMini has shown this phenomenon directly in connection with the WHS. However, the iMac has been working about 1.5 years with no problems. This problem only occurs for about 6-9 months
Because of different WHS and OS X versions are affected and also different Fritz boxes are used and it seems to be a general problem in the interplay Windows / OS X to be present.
When the iMac is the exact date of disconnection does not occur.
With the Mac Mini, the time can however be determined relatively easily. From the Event Viewer on Windows Server is unfortunately no clear error image. At the particular time but appeared relatively often, but not always (!) In Windows Security Logs the error 4625 (Failed to log on an account) on. This would indicate a rights issue.
Searching for a solution (so far unsuccessfully, unfortunately), I stumbled over the problem of the Server Infrastructure License Services (silsvc) in Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials (every 30 min!). Maybe a connection?

My reason for not posting this in the server forum is that I suspect it is a clien issue. All my other clients connect happily to the server which leads me to believe the server is configured correctly.
Only my the two MacBook Pro's are having problems.
