Satellite A300-1ND - can I use SATA2 HDD?

Hi.
Is there reason to upgrade A300-1NDs SATA HDD to SATA2 HDD? I know that SATA2 is faster and is backward compatible with SATA, but dont know if laptop would be able to use full speed of SATA2.

SATA1 is limited to about 150MBytes/sec (1.2MBits/sec taking into account the overheads).
Only the super fast 10,000RPM WD Raptors and similar HDD's can get near 150MB/sec. A normal 2.5" 5400RPM/7200RPM HDD will only reach about 60MB/sec -> 90MB/sec.
So installing a SATA2 HDD wont have any benefit.
To take advantage of SATA2, you would need to install a new generation SSD (for example Toshiba's new 512GB SSD) which are known to reach about 280MB/sec.
(most current/cheap SSD's are not much faster than normal HDD's)

What do you mean exactly? Did you mean the HDD???
The A300 supports and 2.5 SATA HDD and all 2.5 HDD should be recognized properly since the SATA HDD controller hasnt any limitations.

Satellite A300-1IK - Can't update Vista

I recently reset my Satellite A300 to its defaults using the HDDRecovery utility. The OS now is Vista Home Premium SP1, but I am not able to update vista drivers or get the upgrade to SP2, so I am struck with my default SP1.
I tried to install upgrades with auto updater, or by manually checking for updates under "Windows Update " options. I got no results with the first method (planned updates dont start at all), while with the second method when i click the "look for updates" button it tells me "unable to check for new updates; ERROR CODE 80072EFE".
So I tried to download official microsoft executable update packages from their download area, but they all fail at installing.
What am I supposed to do?

What update pack you have downloaded?
Generally speaking if SP1 is already installed you can start with SP2 installation for Vista but SP1 must be installed firstly. SP2 can be downloaded on official Microsoft website (not Windows Update). Download SP2 and start the installation and check what happens.

Satellite A300-1G5 - Can I change HDD place?

I was thinking if it possible to move the HDD from its place (which on the left side of the laptop) to the right side of the laptop, since my model can have 2 separate HDD. This idea came to my mind because of the fact that the CPU ( cooling module ) is actually is on the left side as well as HDD. As everybody knows , CPU generate the most heat of the laptop, so I was thinking I can reduce heat by moving the HDD to right side (where its only contain the DVD drive). A matter of fact, the left side of the laptop is always hotter than the right side.
So, is there any body agree on that? Will the HDD fit on the right side ? If so, can u people help me on how I can move the HDD to the right side?

Theoretically you can exchange the HDD and you can put in into the second HDD slot. It makes no difference if the computer boots from SATA1 port or SATA2 port.
But the interesting thing is that my girlfriend has Satellite A300 too but with 2 HDDs. Now I have looked into both HDD slots and the point is that the HDD chassis to fix it in the notebook (silver chassis) are different. That means you need the HDD chassis for the second slot.
You can get if from an authorized service provider.
Furthermore if your notebook is getting hot you should clean it. I do it every 3 months and always Im wondering how much dust come out.

Satellite A300-15M - Can I install a second HDD?

I own a SatelliteA300-15M. I bought the laptop 2 years ago. I have already 250GB hard drive which came with the laptop. Recently I got my laptop serviced from local shop. I noticed that it has an additional slot for another hard drive. I saw a post that some of the A300/A305 laptops have the space for second hard drive but not the connectors.
If anyone owns A300-15M can they please tell me if i can install a second internal hard drive in my model? Is there a sure way to find if I can really install a second hard drive?

So the case is claer: If you dont have a second SATA connector, you cant install a second HDD.
Check also the forum regarding such questions. The point is that one notebook series (e. g. Satellite A300) is always equipped with the same case but the hardware is different. So not all models have the same features. ;)

Satellite A200-1S5 - Can I use a second HDD and RAID?

Is Toshiba Satellite A200-1S5 eligible for adding a second hard drive? It has RAID controller as far a I know - could it help?

The Satellite A200-1S5 does NOT support RAID!!!
But some A200 could use two HDDs (but NOT RAID!!!) There are different A200 models which supports different hardware specifications.
Therefore you can find the second bay at the bottom of the unit.
But if there is no connector for second HDD then this means that there is no second HDD controller and you cannot use second HDD in this A200!!!

Satellite A300-1G2 can't install Win Xp - missing HDD

I have just bought a new Satellite A300-1G2 without an operating system. Now I would like to install Win XP, however during instalation I receive a message that says that windows setup cannot find any hard drives installed on the system. What could be the problem?

I'm not sure whether what I'm going to write here is correct or not (oops) because I never did some of these stuff myself. To install XP I put my hard drive in compatibility mode just like you did and so far my XP works fine. BUT my install CD was a weird one so I cannot guarantee that this is the case for all others.
Apparently to put it back on the SATA AHCI mode you need to install a driver or software (sorry about being ambiguous but I decided to stick to using XP in the compatibility mode) called Matrix something. I'm sure there are hundreds of other threads on this issue so it's best for you to check them again and get some more correct information.
If you don't that and change your bios to SATA AHCI mode you'll get those horrible blue screens... That's as far as I know. Hope that helps

Satellite-A300-23E - Can I install Windows 7 Ultimate instead of Win7 Premium

I bought a TOSHIBA laptop which has the following model: Satellite-A300-23E (Operational system is Windows Vista Home Premium)
I know that TOSHIBA offers an upgrade to Windows 7 but the problem is that they will provide me with Windows 7 Home Premium which I don't want.
Thus, I'm thinking to buy a full version of Windows 7 Ultimate (DVD).
Will be there any technical/software problems in case I remove the original operational system of the laptop and install Windows 7 Ultimate ?
By the way, I used Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and the result was positive !

You should try Vista's drivers, as I know, they are compatible:

talking about touchpad drivers, it can be Alps or Synaptics for your model, or can be both.

Satellite A300-Y00 - How to use a joystick for Games?

How can I connect my Satellite A300/y00 with joystick so I can play games without keyboard because its very hard to use?
Which one should i get, ps2 alike joystick or xbox joystick since xbox for microsoft and im using microsoft software such vista...??
But my laptop has something called game controller in control panel, does it mean i still install the software in order to use the joystick??

I see youve got many questions and most questions can be answered by device (joystick) manufacturer
The point is that most gamepads or joysticks can be connected to USB port (like USB mouse). In most cases its not necessary to install any drivers because its a plug-and-play device (simply connect and use)
But different manufacturers provides own drivers together with the own products
In such cases such drivers should be installed too

Satellite A300 - I can't find the recovery disk creator

Hi everybody!
Need some help with my Satellite A300. I lost the optical recovery disc I burned when the laptop was new. Now when I'm trying to burn a new recovery disc I can't find the Recovery Disc Creator - not on the desktop or in the Start meny. I still have the folder with all the recovery files left - a folder named HDDRecovery with size 4.5 GB. The problem is to find out how to burn the disc.
Can anyone help?

F8 will works just if you didnt change anything with first partition and if you still use factory settings.
"Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" cannot be gone for no reason. Either you have removed it from the system or you have installed own Vista OS.
I don't want to speculate why you cannot use F8 anymore but fact is that for new Vista installation you need recovery DVD.

I bought a Satellite A300 and I see in the specifications that is possible to add a 2nd hdd. So I bought one and when I opened the hdd box, I didn't find a connector to connect to my hdd. I think I must install a SATA connector but I didn't find any way to proceed.

Satellite A300 and WIn7 - cannot use media buttons

I have Satellite A300 laptop.
Recently I reinstalled my Windows 7 Pro x64 using update option (not clean install). So I kept my program and settings. However the media player panel (or whatever it is called) that lets me play, stop music, change songs etc. is not fully working. I can't use 2 "buttons": one that lets me turn on/off highlighting and the other one that turns media player on.
I need them working. I tired Toshiba button support, but I don't know what to do there.

What you must install is Toshiba Value Added Package. I use Win7 on my A300 and all buttons work perfectly. But I use 32bit version.
I dont know if your A300 is supported for Win7 64 bit but you can try to use THIS version.
Before you start installation remove old version, if exist, restart notebook and install this version.

Satellite A300-15C - WLan crashes using BT and WLan simultaneously

I bought notebook Toshiba Satellite A300-15C last month.
I run Wifi and Bluetooth simultaneouly. Connecting by Wifi was crashing.
Then I disable Bluetooth and it was working perfectly.
How can I change Bluetooth frequency or why it is not working simultaneouly with Bluetooth?
I have notebook less than 10 meters from Access Point with 8.5dBi Outdoor Antenna and signal is not.
Other Access Point is 20 meters from antenna and it is working with full speed.
Why signal is not?
I have Windows Vista Home Premium with latest drivers.

Does it mean that you can receive the WLan signals from another access point correctly using the BT and WLan together???
If this is the case then it could be a compatibility issue with your another WLan router.
Im not quite sure what WLan card you have, but I would recommend updating the WLan driver firstly and the BIOS if available.

Can you use a HDD as storage for Win 7 and Mountain Lion installed on a separate SSD?

I replaced the stock 500 GB HDD on my 15 inch 2012 Macbook Pro with a 128 GB SSD, but I need more storage. I've also installed Windows 7 on the SSD on a partition via Bootcamp. My question is, can I install the HDD in the optical drive bay using a caddy and can I use the it's 500 GB as storage for both operating systems? Thank you.

You can do that without any problem, and that's what most people do. You will only need to format the HDD with exFAT or FAT32 (do it on Windows), and it will be read by Windows and OS X

Satellite P200D-134 - can not use the Toshiba DVD player

I have the Satellite P200D-134 and can not use the Toshiba DVD player.
It displays an error message.
"Required modules missing for this application"
In Vista it worked everything fine.
Now I upgraded Windows 7 Ultimate and all Toshiba programs are gone.
And I can not use the Software HD DVD player or other Software from Toshiba.
What should I do?
Does anyone have any advice? Is there any help?

Did you install the VAP (value added package)?
If not do that!!!
Furthermore I recommend installing the DVD Player Update Check Tool which can be found on the Toshiba European driver page.
With this tool, you can check your notebook, if your DVD-Player needs a Upgrade and if yes, it gives you the download link for the needed upgrade version.
By the way: If you cannot find the DVD Player for Win 7 in P200D section then you can download this from the P500 section!
