Satellite A300-1IK - Can't update Vista

Hello
I recently reset my Satellite A300 to its defaults using the HDDRecovery utility. The OS now is Vista Home Premium SP1, but I am not able to update vista drivers or get the upgrade to SP2, so I am struck with my default SP1.
I tried to install upgrades with auto updater, or by manually checking for updates under "Windows Update " options. I got no results with the first method (planned updates dont start at all), while with the second method when i click the "look for updates" button it tells me "unable to check for new updates; ERROR CODE 80072EFE".
So I tried to download official microsoft executable update packages from their download area, but they all fail at installing.
What am I supposed to do?

What update pack you have downloaded?
Generally speaking if SP1 is already installed you can start with SP2 installation for Vista but SP1 must be installed firstly. SP2 can be downloaded on official Microsoft website (not Windows Update). Download SP2 and start the installation and check what happens.

This sound like that you have forgotten to install the display driver or did you install it?
I think you should visit the Toshiba European website and download the display driver:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
It should not be a problem to install it. Just follow the screen instructions. ;)

I bought a laptop *Satellite A300* with Windows Vista Home Premium in *Italian*.
Can I update the operating system in *English* or *Spanish* or I have to buy I new license of Vista.

You cant update your Vista Home Premium to an other language.
If you want an other language, you must buy a new Windows Vista.
In the Microsoft Knowledge Base I founded an article about the language pack but this is only for Ultimate:

Satellite-A300-23E - Can I install Windows 7 Ultimate instead of Win7 Premium

Hello,
I bought a TOSHIBA laptop which has the following model: Satellite-A300-23E (Operational system is Windows Vista Home Premium)
I know that TOSHIBA offers an upgrade to Windows 7 but the problem is that they will provide me with Windows 7 Home Premium which I don't want.
Thus, I'm thinking to buy a full version of Windows 7 Ultimate (DVD).
Will be there any technical/software problems in case I remove the original operational system of the laptop and install Windows 7 Ultimate ?
By the way, I used Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and the result was positive !

You should try Vista's drivers, as I know, they are compatible:
For Webcam try this one:

talking about touchpad drivers, it can be Alps or Synaptics for your model, or can be both.

Satellite A300 - I can't find the recovery disk creator

Hi everybody!
Need some help with my Satellite A300. I lost the optical recovery disc I burned when the laptop was new. Now when I'm trying to burn a new recovery disc I can't find the Recovery Disc Creator - not on the desktop or in the Start meny. I still have the folder with all the recovery files left - a folder named HDDRecovery with size 4.5 GB. The problem is to find out how to burn the disc.
Can anyone help?

F8 will works just if you didnt change anything with first partition and if you still use factory settings.
"Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" cannot be gone for no reason. Either you have removed it from the system or you have installed own Vista OS.
I don't want to speculate why you cannot use F8 anymore but fact is that for new Vista installation you need recovery DVD.

Satellite A350-13D - Can I install Vista 64bit?

3 days ago, I bought an Toshiba Satellite A350-13D. It has 4GB RAM, but Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit is installed. The computer can use only 3GB.
Can I install Vista Home Premium 64 Bit to use the totality of RAM (4GB)? Where can I download the driver for my computer?

Of course you can I install Windows Vista 64bit Why not? What do you think?
On the Toshiba website I can find all drivers for Vista 64bit on Satellite A350 so it should all working properly with Vista 64. Check it yourself:

But note there are two different BIOS versions available One for 32bit and one for 64bit. After installing Vista 64bit you must update the BIOS too.

Satellite A300-15M - Can I install a second HDD?

Hi there.
I own a SatelliteA300-15M. I bought the laptop 2 years ago. I have already 250GB hard drive which came with the laptop. Recently I got my laptop serviced from local shop. I noticed that it has an additional slot for another hard drive. I saw a post that some of the A300/A305 laptops have the space for second hard drive but not the connectors.
If anyone owns A300-15M can they please tell me if i can install a second internal hard drive in my model? Is there a sure way to find if I can really install a second hard drive?

So the case is claer: If you dont have a second SATA connector, you cant install a second HDD.
Check also the forum regarding such questions. The point is that one notebook series (e. g. Satellite A300) is always equipped with the same case but the hardware is different. So not all models have the same features. ;)

Satellite A300-1G5 - Can I change HDD place?

I was thinking if it possible to move the HDD from its place (which on the left side of the laptop) to the right side of the laptop, since my model can have 2 separate HDD. This idea came to my mind because of the fact that the CPU ( cooling module ) is actually is on the left side as well as HDD. As everybody knows , CPU generate the most heat of the laptop, so I was thinking I can reduce heat by moving the HDD to right side (where its only contain the DVD drive). A matter of fact, the left side of the laptop is always hotter than the right side.
So, is there any body agree on that? Will the HDD fit on the right side ? If so, can u people help me on how I can move the HDD to the right side?

Theoretically you can exchange the HDD and you can put in into the second HDD slot. It makes no difference if the computer boots from SATA1 port or SATA2 port.
But the interesting thing is that my girlfriend has Satellite A300 too but with 2 HDDs. Now I have looked into both HDD slots and the point is that the HDD chassis to fix it in the notebook (silver chassis) are different. That means you need the HDD chassis for the second slot.
You can get if from an authorized service provider.
Furthermore if your notebook is getting hot you should clean it. I do it every 3 months and always Im wondering how much dust come out.

Satellite A300-1G2 can't install Win Xp - missing HDD

I have just bought a new Satellite A300-1G2 without an operating system. Now I would like to install Win XP, however during instalation I receive a message that says that windows setup cannot find any hard drives installed on the system. What could be the problem?

I'm not sure whether what I'm going to write here is correct or not (oops) because I never did some of these stuff myself. To install XP I put my hard drive in compatibility mode just like you did and so far my XP works fine. BUT my install CD was a weird one so I cannot guarantee that this is the case for all others.
Apparently to put it back on the SATA AHCI mode you need to install a driver or software (sorry about being ambiguous but I decided to stick to using XP in the compatibility mode) called Matrix something. I'm sure there are hundreds of other threads on this issue so it's best for you to check them again and get some more correct information.
If you don't that and change your bios to SATA AHCI mode you'll get those horrible blue screens... That's as far as I know. Hope that helps

My brother has a A300/E00. It connects to the internet (he can google, go on facebook etc) but it wont download patches or updates for games (wow,sc2) or software(adobe).
Does this sound like a software or hardware problem? He hasn't changed any of his software or their settings. Thanks in advance.

I think you must be a little bit more specific.
Why you cant download patches or updates? Do you get an error message or what happens exactly?
For me it sounds like that antivirus or firewall is blocking downloads. You should check the options and enable downloads!
Furthermore test different Internet Browsers!

I have a X200-20S and am running Windows 7 64bit with BIOS Ver 2.5 for 32bit Vista. If I try to install ver 2.5 for 64bit Vista I get an error message which tells me the ROM image is identical to the one already installed!!! I can only assume that the installer software can't distinguish beteen the 32 and 64bit versions? Not sure what the difference is but I haven't had any problems with Windows 7 so far apart from the subwoofer not working.

I'm upgrading the hard drive of my *toshiba a300-1mz*, but I'd be sure that I can use the *recovery disks* maked at the first boots for the s.o. (vista)

What do you mean exactly? Did you mean the HDD???
The A300 supports and 2.5 SATA HDD and all 2.5 HDD should be recognized properly since the SATA HDD controller hasnt any limitations.

Satellite A200-1CR: Can I install Vista using my Vista installations DVD?

I would like to have some answers in my questions......
I have satellite A200-1CR (PSAE0) and I want to install vista on my own....not with the recovery DVD but I have some serious questions....
1) May I have problems during installation....(SATA drivers, etc) ,problems with BIOS or Toshiba has no such restrictions?
2) Is it problem if I erase the secret partition (winre) and what is its use?
3) If I do a clean install with my DVD with my vista....if I want in the near future can I use the recovery DVD I have got or not?
4) In drivers section for my laptop for each part has 5,6,7 either 8 drivers for win vista...which one is the proper or it's all the same?
5) In general what do you suggest? Are there any reasons why not to do my format??? I have done a lot of formats in desktop but never in laptops.
Sorry if tired you with my questions, and sometimes my bad English....

As Gipsyman already posted you need the Intel Matrix Storage Manger. If you use the XP then this driver must be installed from the external USB floppy disk drive. You have to put the sata driver on the diskette and should include the SATA driver while the
Windows XP setup is running. I think you have to press F6 to include the driver.
But if you dont have a external USB floppy drive then you could create an own XP CD with the SATA driver. To create a new XP CD you need the freeware tool called nLite (google for details).
If you want to install Vista then you could include the SATA driver from the USB stick.
By the way; this forum provides more as enough details about Intel Matrix Storage Manger and nLite. Use the search option!!!

Satellite A300-1ND - can I use SATA2 HDD?

Is there reason to upgrade A300-1NDs SATA HDD to SATA2 HDD? I know that SATA2 is faster and is backward compatible with SATA, but dont know if laptop would be able to use full speed of SATA2.

SATA1 is limited to about 150MBytes/sec (1.2MBits/sec taking into account the overheads).
Only the super fast 10,000RPM WD Raptors and similar HDD's can get near 150MB/sec. A normal 2.5" 5400RPM/7200RPM HDD will only reach about 60MB/sec -> 90MB/sec.
So installing a SATA2 HDD wont have any benefit.
To take advantage of SATA2, you would need to install a new generation SSD (for example Toshiba's new 512GB SSD) which are known to reach about 280MB/sec.
(most current/cheap SSD's are not much faster than normal HDD's)

Satellite Pro A120 - can I update to Windows 7?

I have a Satellite Pro A120 (model PSAC1A-045005 - purchased in Australia) which I wish to update to Windows 7 from XP
The Toshiba Australia site says it is not compatible with Windows 7 and the upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 is unsupported.
Looking on the web I've found a couple of sites that say they have drivers for the computer. One address is as follows:

Presumably these drivers would be unofficial. Would they be reliable or would it cause problems?
I use a wireless router so would be particularly concerned if it caused problems with this

I installed Win 7 on my old notebook and was able to find some necessary drivers.
The notebook (from another manufacturer) is not officially Win 7 supported but it runs pretty well
I spent some time for driver searching but after that was able to get most of the necessary drivers.
I think you should test it on your A120 thats the one and real solution for you
