Satellite L300 PSLBGE network connection drops at random times

Hey,
I've had this problem with my laptop since I bought it 1.5 years ago.
Now I run Windows 7 x64, with the latest bios (version 2.20-WIN; date 25/02/10), chipset and wireless (the card is a: Realtek Wireless LAN Adapter 8187B; driver version: 62.1182.0331.2010) drivers.
The problem is that my network connection drops at random times.
This happens both with my wireless and lan card and it happens with a variety of routers ( at work and at home I use a linksys wrt54gl but I have tried it on other routers with the same result).
I don't think this is a hardware fault since the network seems to work fine under Linux ( I've tried Ubuntu 10 ) . Also a while back I took it to the warranty service and they said the hardware is fine but I should "not use many programs at the same time and use Windowx XP".
From what I understand the various devices (wireless card, network card, webcam, etc) inside the laptop are connected to some sort of usb hub. My guess is that is something wrong with this 'hub' since the webcam is also working faulty.
Thanks,

No, the WLan card and LAN card are not connected to any USB interfaces just the webcam so this cannot be any USB issue.
I think it could be an Windows issue since Linux is OK
I think you should check the power management settings in Win 7 and for Wlan /LAN card. This can be done in device manager -> WLan / LAN card properties -> Advanced tab.
I recommend also updating the Win 7 to the latest state install all updates and patches

  • Wireless connection drops at random

    Hi,
I have a 27" late 2011 iMAC. Since I updated to Lion my wireless connection drops at random. The wireless symbol shows that I am connected, but i cannot use the internet.
The sollution at that time is that I turn off wireless, and than turn it on again. This solves the problem, but only temporarely. Since I also own a NAS for TimeMachine backups, the dropping of the connection is annoying because the backups fail most of the time.
What is causing this problem. I have 2 windows PC's and the connection stays. Router has latest firmware (fritzbox 7340), and my mac is up to date.
    Please help.
    Thanx in advance.

    Hi,
try to change the WiFi channel on your fritzbox, sometimes it works better on higher channels 11, 12, 13 especially if there are Telekom routers in your neibourhood. Make sure to use the latest Firmware for your Fritz!Box, the actually had a few issues in this area a few months ago. If this still does not help, only activate the 2,4 Ghz Bandwidth on the Firtz!Box and deactivate de 5 Ghz option.
I hope that this will solve your issue.
    Cheers

  • Internet freezes then network connections drop?

New iMac with OS 10.7.2 Lion, I am experiencing frequent internet freezes and then all my network connections drop and I have to reboot the machine
to continue working. It works fine for awhile then same thing! Anyone else having this issue? I am not using Wifi, we are using ethernet connection through a network. All of our other macs and pc's have no issues at all so it leads me to believe its the new Mac?

    William, here's what I get.

I understand that the OP failed to do research. But then, I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to Chris. I have Verizon. I can talk and use data at the same time with my Droid Maxx. Therefore, the problem is not just with the network. It would be technically possible for an iPhone to do that on Verizon/Sprint if Apple had chosen to use a different chip, such as the kind other phone manufacturers have elected to use.
Of course, this is probably all irrelevant to the OP's issue. It was merely a point of clarification, especially for those people who are used to being able to use both voice and data at the same time on Verizon. When they switch to an iPhone, they are often surprized at the limitation.
    Best of luck.

  • 2 network connections at the same time

I have 2 network connections at the same time. One for network shares and one for internet. How can I decide which connection should be used for which service?

    David684,
Thanks for posting all of this.  I have a similar network question with a very similar setup that I am using with two interfaces. However, I am much less comfortable with the command line than you appear to be (although comfortable enough to crib little tweaks from the web and run them).
The real difference is the resources I'm after and it seems like more of a problem. In my case, I'm running my home wireless network and can connect at decent speeds, but I happen to live right across from campus where I am attending grad school and I'm picking up the school wifi network. Having direct access to this network, among other things, allows me to access library research journals and databases from home without constantly needing to authenticate. But it isn't nearly enough to accomodate all of my network needs. The key difference, then, is the fact that these come in the form of websites. But I want to access only library stuff over that we-fi connection and do everything else from the LAN.  I use an app called papers for research, which has a built in web browser to allow me to pull up articles and then save them. Would that help me by allowing me to have just that program use wi-fi? I am not sure if the app is using an embedded safari session or it's own home-rolled browser, or how to check in the first place (OR if that makes a difference as far as being able to route the app's traffic to that interface). Also, with all of that said, how could I find out the subnets over which to route this if what I'm going after is a far less tangible resource than an SMB share? I am guessing I need a different method or that none exist?
    Thanks

  • Hyper-V 2008 R2 Network Connection Drops on a VM

Hyper-V Host:  Dell PowerEdge R620 Server with 8 NIC, 256GB RAM connected to iSCSI SAN running Windows 2008 R2 SP1
Guest Machine(s): Windows 2008R2 or 2012 servers (total of 8 servers)
Symptom:  Windows 2008 R2 server drops the network connection.  Cannot PING or access the server.  Tried rebooting guest server, but still not able to connect.  So changed the network connection via Hyper-V Management console to another
virtual adapter, and the system comes back online immediately.
Logical thinking: The NIC must be bad.  But the problem continued at random times (like once or twice a week - especially in the morning with heavy network traffic load).  So, I switched the network back to the original Virtual NIC, and the system
    runs fine.
So it seems that the Hyper-V randomly "kills" the NIC when it is utilizing heavy I/O load.  And only way to fix it at this time is to swap the virtual NIC (5 sec but need to do manually).  Tried add another NIC to provide additional bandwidth,
    but same problem exists.
Is there some sort of patch available to address this?  Or maybe registry update to IGNORE the heavy I/O on a Guest OS?
I looked into http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2263829/en-us  but this seems to be a different issue as the article states that the machines comes online when rebooted where as that is not the case on my part.

    Hi,
The best place for this is in the Hyper-V forum, this forum if for Virtual Server 2005.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=winserverhyperv
You'll get a lot more Hyper-V eyes on it there.
Also, what type of NICs, updated drivers, teaming, etc?

  • Wifi Internet Connection drops at random

I'm having a problem with my 27" iMac late 2009. The internet seems to drop at random. This morning I was online and then suddenly I wasn't. However I can still send and receive email using Mail and Twitter is still working.
I've tried resetting, rebooting, running network diagnostics and nothing seems to work. It says I'm connected and everything is fine however I cannot get to the internet through Safari and Firefox or the iTunes store. I can ping google.com just fine.
I have a valid MAC address and an IP address from my router. My Windows PC and my iPhone and Droid X all work just fine.
Can someone give me some troubleshooting tips here? Any ideas what it could be?

    Hi Gvegastiger,
The problem might be just with your iMac, so I will suggest you to check your firewall on your iMac, and if it is on make sure you are allowing incoming traffic in the area you need to work with...
Second I would check the Proxy settings on your iMac as well under Network profile. Also for troubleshooting purposes leave the IP address DHCP if you have it set static. And Under Network/Ethernet make sure you have it set "Automatically"
Third make sure you use ether Wireless or just Wired connection, not both. I don't know your network layout but if you have to separate networks that will be a problem when you have both of them enabled on separate networks.
Let me know if this helps,
    Goran

  • Satellite L300-243 to connect to JVC camcorder

Toshiba Satellite L300-243 was purchased primarily to use with Pinnacle 12 to do video editing.
My previous PC had a 4-4 firewall connection but there is no similar connection on laptop.
Do I use a 4 - USB lead to make the download from camcorder to laptop?
Or is there a different socket on laptop I need to use?
    Bob

    Hi
I assume the JVC camcorder supports the firewire interface and it was connected to the computer via firewire cable.
Unfortunately, it seems that Satellite L300-243 does not support the firewire port.
In your case you could purchase an Express card which contains firewire port.
Then you could connect the camcorder to the notebook.
    Cheers

  • Wireless network connection drops on my Tecra A4

    Hi,
When I am downloading a file ( or just only connected to the web), the connection drops about every 30 seconds for a few seconds. I have tried a lot things, like changing the channel, changing the security setting (wpa/wep), tried another places in the house, but if I sit only a meter from the router, I have the same problem.
The strange thing is the the computer that is directly connected by cable to the router does not show any problems at all..
also see http://www.sappa.nl/dumeter.jpg for an illustration of my problem.
I have read about a possible solution (http://arstechnica.com/news/posts/1080251780.html) by turning off the windows net zero service, and instead of this service to use a different program to search and connect to your network (configfree?!)
    I am using a netgear WPN824 router
My laptop is a Tecra A4
    Greetings!

    Hi
Its not easy to give you a proper answer.
If your unit works with the Atheros WLan card you should use the Atheros Client Utility to configure the WLan settings and the option Use Windows to configure my wireless in the Wireless network properties should be disabled.
Furthermore please check the Toshiba website for new Wlan driver. Maybe the new update could solve the problem.
    Bye

  • Network connection drops on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro 15 “ Unibody OSX 10.5.8 (have not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard) 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB Ram purchased in December 2008. This was my first Mac purchase having used only Windows PCs prior to that. My daughter has a nearly identical Macbook Pro purchased for her in July of 2008 which is also running OSX 10.5.8. Everything on my Mac has worked perfectly---and beautifully-- until about one month ago when I started having problems connecting to our home network (Netgear Router, Commcast provided modem). It is important to know that my daughter’s MacBook Pro and my wife’s Dell laptop (Vista) do not and have never experienced the network connection problem I have been experiencing---only my Macbook Pro--- so I assume the fault lies somewhere other than with the router or modem. I lose the internet connection once or twice each day--sometimes when I am in the middle of something and sometimes when I turn my MacBook on from being shut down or from sleep--happens in all three states. After discussing this issue on the phone with several people at Apple tech support (all of whom were very pleasant and patient) it was determined that the internet connection issue could be solved temporarily by dragging the System Configuration Folder from the HD Preference Library to the desktop, then restarting, then clicking on our home network name. Whenever I follow this procedure I am able to connect to the Internet again and everything is fine until another 12 to 24 hours goes by and then I lose the connection again, repeat the fix and so on and so on. Since this problem does not occur more frequently than once or twice a day I have not bothered to take my MacBook to an Apple Store to see if the problem is caused by a hardware issue. I do not have a back up computer for my personal use at home and would rather not take my MacBook in unless until I have exhausted any other options that might exist. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the discussions forum Rpma1900.
I can't explain your problem, but since no one has posted any ideas might I suggest the following?
Try turning OFF IPv6 in Network Preferences. IPv6 is a great idea in theory but I've never encountered a network situation in which it's resulted in any performance improvement.
Try giving your MacBook Pro a fixed IP address. Make it numerically higher than any that might be provided by your Netgear router so it won't conflict with them.
Finally, I once experienced this identical problem using a Linksys router, but with a strange twist: my Vista computer would lose connection in much the same manner as your MacBook Pro, while all my Macs would remain happily connected. After exhausting every other imaginable solution, including the above suggestions, I finally removed the Linksys router and installed an AirPort Express. Problem solved.

  • Network connection drops every 15 mins

    Hi all,
i'm loosing network access on my iMac. This has started tonight, I had never had any problem before. My iMac is connected through Ethernet interface to a switch, then access to a router and finally to the modem cable. I have several other computers on this home network, all of them working properly and accessing to Internet without any problem.
Only the iMac is behaving strangely, and only since a few hours.
When the problem occurs, everything seems normal : LEDs are on on the switch, ifconfig -a gives a normal report (interface up, IP address ok within network range (no APIPA), netstat -rn OK), and i have no entry in system. log or whatsoever. But I can't nervertheless access to any Internet site, nor can I even ping my defaut router.
I began to "solve" the problem by rebooting the mac, then found that, when the problem occurs, I can solve it by going to Network preferences, advanced options, TCP/IP tab and press the "renew DHCP lease". Then everything works fine for 15 minutes, and I have to renew this operation.
The strange thing is that I used the iMac this morning and it was working fine. When I switched it on again tonight, the problem appeared .... Nothing changed, execpt one thing (but I can't find any connection) : the World of Warcraft laucher has been updated this morning !  But I can not imagine that this might generate trouble on the TCP/IP stack of Mac OS X !!!!
When the network connection is lost, all traffic is stopped, not only HTTP. If I'm for example playing WoW, I loose the connection to the game servers. Renewing the DHCP lease fixes the problem if done quickly enough.
I know I never had this problem before, as I'm connected to WoW almost every day and could so far play without any problem for (sometimes) hours.
I've seen some posts describing more or less the same behavior, but no answers so far. Surprisingly, many of them reports problems occuring every 15 mins.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks.
    PhC.

    Hello,
I've found a workaround : I've switched my TCP/IP config to static IP address and everything is working fine so far.
    Hope this helps.

Which looks a little strange but didn't explain the irssi behavior. On a whim I turned up the front fan on the server as I had seen a couple alerts about the disk temp hitting 40C, within a few minutes munin spewed a bunch of alerts, primarily OK alerts around disk latency which is a little strange. That said, I keep getting alerts about eth0 errors being unknown/a high number.
This morning I looked at munin and there are huge gaps in the charts, 1-2 hours which is really strange. Looking in the munin logs I see errors about connecting to the tcp port. Anyone know what's going on? I've got munin configured to use CGI for the graph generation.
While I was typing this I lost network connectivity to the server (ssh/http) for 5-10 minutes, after I got back in I saw the systemd messages above. Scrolling through my buffer I see the following error appeared regularly yesterday:

Looking on google suggests this is related to resource starvation.

I do have 8GB installed but it's i686 (legacy system) and so far my attempts to build a kernel with PAE have failed.
Edit: I stopped subsonic which was occupying about 500M Virtual RAM and munin is updating more reliably.
Edit Edit: Still happened. Installed sysstat and it looks like things are still being blocked. Also shows average memory utilization at 95%

Update: Looks to be directly related to Memory utilization, followed this guide on diagnosing high load and appears the system is swapping a bit. I expected it to handle things a little better since I'm using a SSD (the only hardware change in a few months).

Comcast technician said my Technicolor brand modem I rent from them is the problem. He said that most VPN problems show up due to that brand is not configured correctly for that application.  He did suggest that any other brand they offer seems to work ok.  Mine is a technicolor wih voice modem too.   I have to go to my local Comcast office and see what model modems they have available at the time since they cannot be disturbed by a local phone call.     I dont know if I may trade in my brand new Technicolor for another failing modem or just suffer the ever-failing connection.  The connection does always reconnect by slows my work sometimes creating too many distractions that lead to not remeining focused on the task at hand........especially when a client needs have to wait until reconnection.     I plan to call the Technicolor manufacturer first  to see if they have a fix first.  Cannot assume anyone at Comcast has done the research.

  • Broadband connection dropping upto 20 times in a d...

Having read others troubles and suggested solutions I thought I need to start my own thread to post the stats of the problem I have.
I'm staying with my inlaws and there broadband connection is atrocious, dropping the connection on a regular basis both day and night. Sometimes all is well for hours and others the link is up down up down not maintaining a connection for more than a few minutes at a time. This happens at random times but also almost guaranteed when an phone is in use (incoming, outgoing or sometimes even just if a receiver is lifted)
Below is what we've tried so far:
Original Thomson BT Home Hub (White) dropped both the internet and sometimes the hub would restart. I read this device had restarting issues so I think this was 2 separate issues. This has been replaced with a Belkin device. Belkin modem also dropped ADSL line (line and internet light on router both go out) but most of the time it is much quicker to reconnect.
Router is plugged in in upstairs office on an extension so I've tried moving it to the 1st BT socket in hallway. This is an old small square socket with no split facia or test port.
Replaced the RJ11 cable from filter to modem.
Replaced the ADSL filter modem is connected to.
Disconnected all other phones in household (there are no other devices eg fax)
Quiet line test performed at main socket no odd noises and only the very faintest of hiss (lower pitch than hiss but I can't describe) Almost inaudible anyhow.
With all of the above tried the line still dropped and so I've all but run out of ideas. What's the next course of action? Calling the call centre? I wanted to make sure our side was all in order before raising a fault ticket.
For ref the line has dropped twice while I was composing this post. Once with no apparent reason and once more while receiving an incoming call. Thanks for taking the time to read this I’ll post the stats from the router below.

Thanks for the reply I'll take a read of that.
It's taken this long to get back online and post the modem stats, sorry about the formatting.

  • "Network Connection Timed Out" every time I try updating

Ive been trying to update to 4.1 all day but Ive hit a major snag--every time I download the upgrade, no matter at home starbucks or school, it gets to the VERY END (literally, it gets to the "processing" point), and says network connection timed out.
Ive uninstalled itunes, tried on 9, tried on 10...nothin!

I was having this issue for two days and saw on another post to pause/turn off your security software. I have Kaspersky 2011 and paused it (right clicked on the icon in the tray and hit "Pause"). I know it's painful to do--I hate the vulnerability--but it worked beautifully after doing so. This was the only thing I tried and it worked.
    Hope this helps.

  • Access Points connection drop approximately 30 times with 802.1x Radius

    Hello Everyone,
As you can see from the top this is my problem that could not solve for 2 weeks. To summarize again, I used to my access points with standart configuration, I mean vlans, dhcp and other basic configration. After we increased security of our access points we started to encouter connection drops issue.
    These are the example logs;
Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (my mac address) Reason: Previous authentication no longer valid
    Also a lot of:
interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (my mac address) Reason: Sending station has left the BSS
as well as we have a lot of authentication failures such like:
%DOT11-7-AUTH_FAILED: Station xxxx.xxxx.xxxx (my mac address) Authentication failed
    What should I do ?
    Thanks in advance

I have finally found something to look into :/
