  • Photoshop CS5 save animation as jpeg - not gif?

My content management system will only allow jpgs for this particular section of my site that I'm working in. I have PS CS5 Extended and I already created my animation (basically just a slideshow) and now I need to save it as a .jpg.
I tried doing Save for web and devices, selecting GIF as the format and then changing it to a jpg extension. This preserves the animation and also gives it the file type that I need. However the gif image quality is awful.
I remember doing this at point a few years ago but forgot how I did it! Another option was under export, render video I believe, but that just creates hundreds of jpgs and not just one.
    Thanks

The JPEG format itself does not support animation, though the HTML on your site could change the src attribute of your IMG elements, for example with a script.  I have done exactly that - I have a small Javascript that rotates multiple JPEGs on my own web site (http://www.ProDigitalSoftware.com).  View source to see the simple Javascript.
Are these large images? Are they photos or drawn graphics?
You're not going to get good photo quality with GIF because it's an indexed format that can carry at most 256 colors, and if you're spreading those colors across multiple frames then you'll see even further degradation.

  • Screen saver animation

My screen saver is a slideshow of my photos. However, on, say, 1 of every 5 photos, a huge animated character is covering the bulk of the photo. Sometimes it is sort of a bubble version of the flag of a country (thus far, Germany, Argentina) or earlier it was a purple Pokemon looking dude. Why is this happening and how do I get rid of this, please?

    Welcome to the forums.
Just a long-shot, but, see if you have Zoom enabled in System Prefs.>Universal Access.
Then, if you would update your Profile, to show which OS X you're running. That way,
you'll get a much better response.

  • How can I save "animation frames" so they play in email?

I have created "animated frames" in PhotoShop CS3 Design Standard on Mac OS Leopard. The saved .gif works fine when dragged into an Internet browser for review (i.e. Mozilla Firefox). However, when I attach the "animated" .gif to an email...nothin'. No animation. When I email the animated .gif to myself, the animation does not play. However, I do see animated .gifs in emails that I receive, so it's not a browser setting...either PhotoShop doesn't do what I need, or more likely, I don't know how to do it.
Has anyone tried this and can someone can tell me if PhotoShop animated frames can be used in email (as well as for the Internet). And if they can, what are the steps to make it work for email.
    Thanks,
    Craig

As far as I know there was a rather capricious decision made by Apple to not let animated GIFs play in Mail.app. Admittedly some people have a tremendous dislike for them but as an occasional GIF maker I'd enjoy being able to view animations in Mail.app. In Tiger I was able to send animations from Windows and sometimes have them animate in Mail but not Leopard's version of Mail.app.
Although it has never done any good yet (I've been sending in requests for animated GIFs since Panther) it can't hurt to put in a request at...
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
For a while I was using Thunderbird because it allows you to view animations and it's cross platform but I'm a Dot Mac member (now MobileMe) and Mail is needed to work properly with the sync functions.

  • Save animation as AVI

    Hi,
I have downloaded a trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro Extended on my PC and are playing around with the animation function. I did an animation that I saved as an .avi file with the preset configuration. I opened it in Windows media player and it worked like a charm. I made another animation that I also saved as an avi-file, but when I tried to open this file I received the following error message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." The file type must be OK since it worked with the first avi-file. I know that I used the same compression as the first file, but to be sure I saved the animation in ALL the other compression variants. But I received the same error message when I tried to open the avi-files. I have reboothed my computer, but still the same problem.
Anyone that has encountered this problem? Does it have anything to do with the trial version? Or is the function a "one in a life time"?

It seems like something is wrong during the saving, since the file is 0KB. Any suggestions for where to start troubleshooting?

  • Nokia E63 Power Saver Animation Files

    HI,
I would like to know where can I get Powersaver animation files for my Nokia E63 screensaver apart from the 2 I have got for default, or if there is any kind of  software that allows me to create those kind of files.
    Thanks.

  • Animated gifs in PS CS6

Hi all, I am trying to save animated gifs from PS, I can get it to work fine when the layers are just flat layers, but I need to create the animated gif when I have layer folders... Ie layer 1 will have a graphic and some text, layer 2 different graphic and different text. But I have to create lots of banners each with a slight change on the text. So I want to keep the text editable so its quick to just chnage the text and then save another animated gif. But when I try and create frames from layers its bringing all the bits from the layer as different frames ie the graphic is one frame then the text is one frame etc. Is it possible to create the animated gif while still having layer folders or does it just work if they are flat layers?

Hi thanks for the reply, i didnt think it was really working, but now I have had a play, it does work and its pretty easy to change the text, it does pop open another photoshop file to edit the text, but it works ok.
    Thanks

  • Problems/help with animated GIF exports

I am an experienced Photoshop user.  I recently upgraded to CS5 (Windows) and have been attempting to produce animated gif files.
After reading a few tutorials on the topic, I have been able to:
    Create a PSD with a few jpg images as layers;
    Move the layers to the animation window;
Set the cycle times and optimize the animation window; and,
Use the Save for Web Devices dialog to create the GIF file.
Everything appears to be normal throughout this process.  However, the exported GIF file appears as a dark gray frame when I open it in IE, or upload it to my image hosting site.
Anybody else experiencing this type of problem?
    Thanks

No, my Photoshop CS5 saves animated GIFs just fine, and I did just what you said.  For example (you have to click on an image here to see it animate):
Can you post your image here?  Maybe it could be a problem with your browser not animating the image properly?  What version of IE do you use?

  • Animated GIF--Quality and File Size

I'm having a hard time getting a quality image and a decent file size.
Even if I save animated GIFs and open with PE an try to resave them, the motion is choppy and the file size is more than double the original.
For example, the following image is less than 10K and plays quite smoothely, but no way can I duplicate such a simple graphic under 10K:
    http://thequackshack.com/forums/radio/style_images/Borderli-546/ad_banner.gif
It also seems that others can control the duration of frames individually...
Most of my GIFs end up around 300K, which will not be accepted. A compromise of poor quality will also not be considered.
    What can I do?
I've tried lowering Dither and colors, but the results are poor. My graphics will not be used if they are so large or of poor quality.
Here is a couple that I made:

I am not an animation expert, but I copied two of your examples. On the example you say is under 10K, there are about 35 layers. On your example there are about 65 layers. I'm wondering if reducing the number of layers would get you what you want.
As for controlling duration of frames, I assume you want Frame 1 to be 0.5 second, Frame 2 to be 1 second etc. I think PSE puts a uniform time between frames. This can be adjusted, but it is adjusted all frames. One workaround I've seen is to copy a layer. So if the timing interval is 0.5 seconds, you would have the same image show for 0.5 seconds X 2 = 1 second.
This is about all I know on animated GIFS.

  • Animated GIFs in BREEZE Presenter

Does anyone know a workaround for having animated gifs work
    in Breeze Presenter?
    Thanks.

    Phatty5,
One potential workaround is to take that gif and rebuild it
in flash; create the animation there and save it out as a swf. Then
    reimport back into PowerPoint.
    Some other workarounds include:
    1. if you have a recent version of Photoshop/Image Ready
(CS/CS2), you can save animated gifs to swf file formats simply by
exporting to Flash from within Image Ready. The same pretty much
    goes for Illustrator as well.
    2. There are a number of tools available online that can
convert gifs to swf format. A quick search in google came up with a
ton of companies/software developers who have made various tools
    available.

  • Photoshop CC wont let me save image with layers as a png or jpg

I am a beginner and just got Ps last night. I have edited a photo and only put one effect on it, stroke. When i try and save the file as a png or jpg, or really anything other than a psd it tells me that it cannot save the layers the i used in that format. How can i save my edited picture as a png or jpg or convert a psd file to jpg or png?

If you want transparency for the web there are two choices PNG and GIF. Gif only supports 255 mapped colors when you want transparency and transparent pixels are empty 0% opacity.  PNG supports full color and an Alpha channel for transparency partial transparency is supported. GIF file are very small.
There are also animated GIF file that browsers support.  While you can create animated png file many browsers don't support them and some browsers like Chrome have an add-on that will support animated png files. Photoshop will save Animated GIF but has no support for animated PNG.

  • Need help in saving an animation

I created a simple animation in Photoshop CS3 using just two frames. I have never tried animating anything before so if this question sounds stupid, it's just because after a couple hours of exploring every how-to on how to save and export, I am coming up with nothing that works. How do I save my 2-frame animation as a gif (or for that matter, anything) so that I can retain the animation? Although I can animate my file via the animation layer, when I save it as a gif, I get one flat saved image. Help. How do you save animations???????
    Thanks,
    Maria

It took a couple hours of research (!!!!!) but despite what every forum says, my animated gif could not be previewed in any browser. It always opened up as one unanimated image. I ended up uploading the saved gif to Photobucket and then copied the html link code into my blog post. I guess there is no way to preview a gif, you just have to trust it will work when you upload it to whatever.  I wish I had known that. :-/
Thanks for responding to my question though!!!! :-)

  • Photoshop CS5 Animation Help

I'm currently working on a banner design in which certain animation components need only to loop one time while other components need to loop forever. Is there a way that I can choose specific layers to loop once and choose others to loop forever within the same animation scheme?

Of course GIF can save animations with multiple Frames which are represented by multiple layers in the document.  I don't think PNG can do animation at all, however.
