Save as Text contains 3 binary characters

We have recently converted to BO XI 3.0.  When I save a report as text three binary characters are placed at the beginning of the file.  They are EF BB and BF.  What is causing the three binary characters and how do I get rid of them.  It is preventing me from importing the text file into other databases.

  • Why does text on certain portions of websites, usually when adjacent text contains special characters, become jumbled into seemingly random sets of characters that are not in any way jumbled when viewing the source of the webpage? How can I fix this?

    When viewing most text on most websites, it displays properly. However, there are two instances where text will either tend to, or consistently, become jumbled into a mess of seemingly random characters. Oddly enough, these seemingly random characters are not, in fact, random. The same weird character will be used to replace the same regular English text character consistently across the entire area that has been jumbled.
    The two instances where this tends to occur most often, or consistently in some cases, are, first, when a paragraph or particular section of formatted text contains special characters, such as Chinese or Japanese characters, or accented letters. When this happens, usually the paragraph that contains the special characters is completely jumbled, while the rest of the text on the page will have intermittent jumbling on a word or two. Most often, the word "the" is jumbled in this case.
    The second instance where this happens is when a website uses specially formatted text in some form or another. I, not being an expert at web development, am not sure what kind of formatting causes it, but I can provide consistent examples in lieu of my experience:
    - Example 1:
    [http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9564/firefoxcharencodingissu.jpg]
    Example 1 shows a portion of a screen-shot of the website "Joystiq.com". Every single article title on the front page of this blog is consistently jumbled, while the text of the article itself remains untouched. Please note that when this jumbled text is highlighted, it is visible un-jumbled in the right-click menu as well as in the source code of the page. Other consistent instances can be found within many search fields on various websites. For instance, the search bar located at the top right of "Kotaku.com" consistently displays jumbled characters both on its default text of "Search" and on any text that is typed into the search box itself.
    - Example 2:
    [http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/9564/firefoxcharencodingissu.jpg]
    Example 2 shows both the jumbling of the paragraph containing the character "☆" as well as the subsequent peppering of the rest of the article's text with small jumbled words. Below this is the DOM Source of the selected text which shows how the text itself is being rendered properly within the site's source. Additionally, for convenience, I have edited on to the bottom of the image a small snippet of what the search bar on the same page looks like. Notice how the grayed-out text that normally would read "Search" is instead jumbled.
    This issue has been plaguing my browser for the past year or so, and I had hoped that it would go away with subsequent Firefox updates. It has not gone away.
    Thank you for reading! Please help!

    This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
    Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
    You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
    Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.
    There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.
    Use this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):
    <pre><nowiki>data:text/html,
    Helvetica<br><font face="Helvetica" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font><br>
    Helvetica Neue<br><font face="Helvetica Neue" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font>
    </nowiki></pre>
    You should reset the network.http prefs that show user set on the about:config page.<br />
    Not all websites support http pipelining and if they do not then you can have issues with images or other problems.

  • Using edit text control for storing and displaying text of 1000 characters

    Hi all,
    I have a requirement to provide a field for remark in one of dialog screens, for saving remarks of up to 1000 characters. I made container and edit control and add a field LCHR in database table with preceding INT4 field. Then I use this code to save/read data in/from database table:
    CALL METHOD editor->get_textstream
         EXPORTING
           only_when_modified = 0
         IMPORTING
           text               = mytext
         EXCEPTIONS
           OTHERS             = 1.
    in user command and:
    CALL METHOD editor->set_textstream
         EXPORTING
           text = mytext.
    in status.
    Then in read I tried to select single LCHR field from that row and put it in mytext TYPE string. In save I save mytext as LCHR field in database table. There is no error anywhere but it doesn't work. Is it even possible to save STRING text in LCHR field of database table?
    What is alternative? Text objects from SE75?

    Having a string in a database table is absolutely independent on having some trouble in the program. If you got an error saying you need only flat structure, that means you can't use a deep structure in the context.
    I suppose you are using the structure on the screen or ALV. You can only use a flat structure there (no strings, no sub-tables...) as you would not be able to render a deep-structured data on the screen. Of course, ABAP could handle that e.g. by ignoring those deep fields, but we would want too much.

  • Error message:  "document may contain binary EPS file which can cause print failure"

    Can anyone help me with this error message?  I have an .indd file that contains about 20 logos and various images.  I was under the impression that using eps / ai / and psd file formats for printing was best in InDesign.  (It is a 25 page document).  When I try to print the document i get the error message that says:
    "This document may contain binary EPS files which can caise the print job to fail.  If the printer produces output then the binary datat did not interfere with printing. Do you want to print this document?"
    Well - my document did not print for me .. so hwo can I fix this?
    Thank you,
    Cmol

    There are many ways to fix this.
    Re-saving EPS files as AI is fine.
    Re-saving EPS files as PSD is a bad plan -- EPS files are vector graphics, and PSD typically aren't. Also, AI files are PDF files that are generally readable by many applications. PSD files, not so much, (though InDesign certainly can).
    (You could also re-save as an EPS file without 8-bit/binary data.)
    What does the error message mean? Well, EPS files are a type of PostScript file, and PostScript has many ways to store image data. It can be stored as 8-bit data, which is the most space-efficient. It can also be stored as base64 ascii, i.e. just letters and numbers and soforth, which takes up more space (I want to say 130% more?).
    Depending on exactly how your computer is connected to your printer, those 8-bit characters can cause problems and may not make it all the way to the printer. If that happens, then you get this problem. The warning message is there to let you know that if you have a non-8-bit-clean printing path, then you may have a problem.

  • Problem with URL:s containing scandinavian characters (Office 2013 / Firefox / SP 2010)

    We are encountering problems with document opening when URL contains scandinavian characters (ä,ö). This issue occurs only with Office 2013 when using Firefox. With IE it works just fine. And Office 2010 works nicely as well.
    Error message: "We can't connect to 'https://intra.../Test powerpoint.pptx' Please make sure you're using the correct web address".
    This issue only occurs when document or document set name contains scandinavian characters. If I rename it, document opens without any problems.
    Any idea how I could fix this?

    Hi Law, try changing the settings in the library to "open in client application." You should also read the following links for solutions:

  • Saving a file in a with a file name containing Japanese Characters

    Hi,
    I hope some genius out there comes up with the solution to this problem
    Here it is :
    I am trying to save some files using a java program from the command console , and the file name contains japanese characters. The file names are available to me as string values from an InputStream. When I try to write to a File Object containing the japanese characters , I get something like ?????.txt . I found out that I am able to save the files using the unicode value of the java characters.
    So I realize that the trick is to convert the streaming japanese characters , character by character into their respective unicode value and then Create A File Object with that name. The problem is -> I cant find any standard method to convert these characters into their unicode values. Does anyone have a better solution ? Remember , its not writing japanese characters to a file , but creating a file with japanese characters in the file name !!!!
    Regards
    Chandu

    retrive a byte array out of the input Stream and store the values in String using the condtructor
    String(byte [] bytes, String enc)
    where encoding would be Shift_Jis for japanese I guess.
    Now to understand this concept basically all the Strings are unicode however when you are passing a byte array String has no means to know what is the encoding of the byte array, which is being used to instantiate the String value so if no encoding is specified it takes the System value which is mostly iso-8859-1. This leads to displaying ?
    However in case you know the encoding of the array specifying that in the constructor would be a real help.

  • Exporting InDesign files to PDF containing Chinese characters

    When I export a file from Adobe InDesign to PDF that contains Chinese characters, some of the Chineset text in the resultant PDF appears heavy and blotchy, like it has had a very heavy stroke applied to it, even though the text is perfectly OK in the source InDesign file and when printed out from the PDF.
    As a lot of Chinese reader will view and read this document online, I need to find a solution, can anyone help me?

    Below is a screenshot of one of the effected pages
    As you can see, some of the Chinese characters appear all heavy and blotch, whilst others are OK.
    There is no leading on any of the text and it is perfectly OK when viewed in the Adobe InDesign file.

  • Oracle text search - special characters issue

    Hi.
    I'm facing a real annoying problem with text search query, and everything I've tried failed...
    I have a table with a varchar column indexed by text index. The column contains special characters like '&', ',' and mainly- '-'. Since I want to disregard these special characters for searches I have created a basic lexer of type skipjoins for the column index. So now, the phrase 'aaa-bbb something'. for example, can be searched without '-', like this: 'aaabbb'. But I want to make it possible for this phrase to be searched with and without '-'. So, that when the user enters 'aaabbb' he will get the same results as when he enters 'aaa-bbb'.
    In other words, This condition:
    WHERE CONTAINS(column, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
    ||'aaabbb'
    ||'</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
    Will return the same results as this condition:
    WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
    ||'aaa-bbb'
    ||'</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
    Since text query treats the '-' sign as a minus sign and searches for 'aaa' which doesn't contain 'bbb', the only way I found to fix this was to wrap the search text with {}. like this:
    WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
    ||'{aaa-bbb}'
    ||'</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
    This all went very well, until I wanted to create a relaxation query. like this:
    WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
    ||'{aaab}'
    ||'</seq><seq>'
    ||'{aaab}'
    ||'%</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
    In this case, I would expect the first part of the query to return no results (since it's not the whole word) but the second part, using '%' should have returned the record of 'aaa-bbb'. It doesn't. It will only return my result if I remove the '{}' for the second part. I can't do that, because the exact same search, when containing '-', will not return the expected results when I remove the braces (the sign is treated as minus sign):
    WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
    ||'{aaab}'
    ||'</seq><seq>'
    ||'aaa-b'
    ||'%</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2
    So I now have no solution. My question is- How can I create a query that will disregard the minus sign and treat it as a regular sign, but would still handle percentage sign as a special sign. So that I could run a query like the last example and will get the results of searching the phrase 'aaa-b%'?
    In short, and to simplify my question, I'm looking for a way to escape all characters (not only the minus sign) except for a specific character. Kind of like 'unescaping' a specific character (the '%' sign) within braces {}. Or, another way would be to remove the space that is added to the phrase inside the braces at the end of the word, preventing me from adding "%" at the end of the word, outside the braces.
    Thanks you,
    Nili

    I'm looking for a way to escape all characters (not only the minus sign) except for a specific character. Kind of like 'unescaping' a specific character (the '%' sign) within braces {}What about if you apply a function like regexp_replace to escape all known "specific characters", and then unescape the particular specific character again back as e.g. in
    SQL>  select 'a.da-df%df*' str, replace (
                                                   regexp_replace (
                                                        'a.da-df%df*',
                                                        '([[:punct:]])',
                                                        '\\\1'
                                                   str2
      from dual
    STR         STR2
    a.da-df%df* a\.da\-df%df\*
    1 row selected.i.e. don't escape with curly brackets but with the backslash character.
    You can then use this string in your query like in
    WHERE CONTAINS(r.POI_NAME, '<query> <textquery grammar="context"> <progression><seq>'
    ||'aaab'
    ||'</seq><seq>'
    ||'aaa\-b'
    ||'%</seq></progression> </textquery> </query> ' ,1)> 2

  • How to upload file containing Japanese characters in AL11

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to modify a program that extracts a text file from local drive then upload the file to sap directory. The input text file contains Japanese characters. When I view the file created, it looks like the one below:
    #º#®#~#^#ì#q  ¼ÓÔ¼·Ï·º
    #ì#ç#ß#q  ÐÅÐÁÂÞº
    The code that I am fixing is below:
       open dataset pv_name for output in text mode encoding non-unicode
       ignoring conversion errors.
    open dataset pv_name for output in legacy text mode code page '8000' ignoring conversion errors.
    *OPEN DATASET pv_name FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8 WITH BYTE-ORDER MARK.
        if sy-subrc = 0.
        LOOP AT pt_input.
          TRANSFER pt_input TO pv_name.
          IF SY-SUBRC NE 0.
            WRITE:/ 'Error writing file'(011), pv_name.
            STOP.
          ENDIF.
        ENDLOOP.
       endif.
      Close dataset
        CLOSE DATASET pv_name.
    Any suggestions on how to resolve this one?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    I didnt said that this will resolve your errors. But using this is the same of ignoring comiler errors....
    As you didnt said anything about codepages you're using no help is possible, you didnt mentioned if your SAP system is Unicode, Non-Unicode or even a MDMP system.
    You need to figure out which codepage the file has on the presentation server and which codepage your SAP system is using. And it can be that no conversion is possible cause both systems do not have any character in common.

  • Oracle Text contain query limit with 9i

    The Oracle Text contain query is defined as this:
    CONTAINS(
    [schema.]column,
    text_query VARCHAR2
    [,label NUMBER])
    RETURN NUMBER;
    Is the size limit of text_query 4000 bytes with 9i? Is it increased with 10g or is it accepting CLOB in 10g?
    I always got the error: "ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested" when I do the following where p_var was dynamically passed with size of more than 4000 bytes:
    p_statement varchar2(20000);
    p_var varchar2(8000);
    p_statement := select count(*) from dewey_table where contains(concat, :x)>0;
    open m_cursor for p_statement using p_var;
    Thanks very much,
    Kevin

    The limit is definitely 4000 characters in 9i and the 10g documentation shows no change in the calling spec for that parameter.

  • Migrating from MySQL to Oracle 11gR2 containing accented characters

    Hello Gurus,
    I am going to migrate a MySQL database that contains accented characters. The collation of the tables holding these data is utf8_unicode_ci.
    I used SQLDeveloper to generate data migration scripts. After a test migration run, the web pages displays "?" instead of the accented character.
    I am currently tracing where the problem is.
    From what I have read, mysqldump uses utf8 as the default character set, so I assume the accented characters in <tablename>.txt files are in tact.
    Could the problem be on sqlldr? Has anyone come across this problem?
    I really would appreciate any help.
