Save CS3 File to CS2

Hi,
How you save a Photoshop CS3 file so that someone on the other end can open it using CS2?
Thanks
Kit

Just save it.
It shouldn't matter too much between CS3 and CS2 although Smart objects won't show as smart objects as CS2 had none. Always save with maximum compatibility.

  • Cannot Open 'CS3 file in CS2' - programmatically handle this dialog

    I am running a Visual Basic app that cycles through a collection of InDesign documents performing actions. We are using CS2 and the problem occurs when a CS3 document is encountered, which hangs the app. When opening the file manually the following error dialog is encountered:
    Cannot open "xxxx.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the lastest version of Adobe InDesign.
    InDesign is launched by:
    appInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Scripting.CS2")
    User interaction is suppressed:
    appInDesign.ScriptPreferences.UserInteractionLevel = InDesign.idUserInteractionLevels.idNeverInteract
    Documents are opened by:
    docInDesign = appInDesign.Open(<FilePath>, False)
    How do you handle/identify this dialog/error without user interaction (I would like to skip the file)?
    Thanks in advance

    If you opening CS3 file in CS2 you alway get error message.
    I think best solution is check indesign document version before opening it.
    I have code for checking indesign version but it is Javascript code.
    But it will give you idea how you can check indesign version and skip that files.
    Here below is code:
    f = File.openDialog ('Select file', undefined, false);
    alert('Indesign version: '+getFileVersion(f));
    function getFileVersion(f){
    var IDVersion;
    f.open('r')
    f.seek(29, 0)
    IDversion = f.readch().charCodeAt(0);
    f.close();
    return (IDversion);

  • Opening CS3 Files With CS2

    I am running iMacs (Leopard). I have CS2 on 1 machine, CS3 on the other.
    When I try to open a CS3 file with CS2, I get a long list of extensions/plug ins that need to be updated.
    Where can I find the updates?
    Thanks.
    Darryl

    I assume you're referring to InDesign (please post application specific
    question in the application forums), you'll need to export as INX and
    open that.
    Don't expect perfection.
    You can search the InDesign forums for INX for more info.

  • Converting CS3 Files to CS2 - Any Ideas?

    Hi folks,
    I know CS3 doesn't save down to CS2. Has anyone found a work-around for this. I have a customer who is still on CS2, she is getting files from another vendor in CS3 and is looking to have them saved as CS2. We have both CS3 and CS2.
    Thx,
    Sandy

    > but you loose new features from ID CS3
    Or worse...those features are badly mangled. Additionally, it's very
    likely that text will reflow. Not recommended for anything but the most
    basic layouts.

  • Saving CS3 file as CS2 file

    I am trying to save a document cover that I created back as a CS2 file. The art department in my company has not upgraded to CS3 yet. How do you go about doing that. I still have the old version. Please help!

    All later versions open the earlier versions. But not the other way around. So if someone has CS3 they can directly open a CS2 file.

  • Saving an Illustrator CS3 file to CS2?

    How can I save an Illustrator CS3 EPS file so that a CS2 user can open it? If so, how is this accomplished?
    Thanks,
    Kelly

    If you Save As, hen click Save, you will be presented with a second dialogue asking for version number. Select CS2 or earlier and the file can be edited in CS2. Some effects and appearances might not survive the translation or will require flattening, which makes them harder or impossible to edit.
    Your colleague might also be Placing the EPS rather than opening it.

  • Opening InDesign CS3 files in InDesign CS2

    I know that I can open a CS2 file in CS3 but is there any way to go backwards and open a CS3 file in CS2. Is there any certain file type that I can save as to make this work and have the file still editable or am I out of luck?

    And my experience with CS3 to CS2 via INX exports, all graphics inherite a black border. Even graphic elements pasted from Illustrator will gain the nasty effect, pictures box that use to be without stroke and fill will gain the feature.
    A lot of cleanning, unless the export quirk was solved since
    But beside that the type seems unaltered

  • In CS2, how can I save a file as PDF 9.0+?

    Hi everyone,
    I use Illustrator CS2 and when I save a file in CS2 (Save As) as a PDF i can only save it as an Acrobat Reader 4, 5, 6, or 7.0 file.
    Is there a way to save a CS2 .ai file as an Acrobat Reader 9.0+ file while in Illustrator CS2??
    Thanks in advance!

    If  you have acrobat in a newer version you could file >> reduce file size
    Otherwise you coudl print to .ps file and upload that to an Online service to makes PDFs

  • Saving CS3 down to CS2

    I'm working as a freelancer. I'm working with Illustrator CS3 but most of my customers still use CS2. When I save my files as CS2 they are not really useable anymore for them. They can't open layers or edit text in CS2.
    With the Indesign Interchangeformat it works fine for CS3 to CS2. Is there anything similar for Illustrator?
    All this version trouble with software that is that expensive!!!
    thanks for advices
    Nicola

    I constantly trade file with a user of CS3 while I am still using CS2. THe only issue for me is that if I Save As from a file he down-saved, the default save format is PDF, even though the file is an AI file. But all other editing is available. Sounds like you are not saving as CS2.

  • Open CS3 AI in CS2, losing everything around margin

    I have a CS3 AI file I made at work. It has items that are large and exceeding the margins on the screen. I open the same file in CS2 at home (didnt realize i could do that!) and although everything opens ok, everything on the outside of the margin is gone...or is it invisible? I cant tell if everything is actually cut off or is this a view setting that Im not familiar with. Which is it and can I fix it from CS2?

    Illustrator is opening the PDF component of the AI file, which has been cropped to the artboard. Using CS3, save your CS3 file as CS2.

  • How do I save a CS3 PSD File as CS2?

    A client with CS2 can't open my CS3 files and I can't figure out how to create a legacy file in CS3. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    D.

    Or, simplify the psd. If (for instance) the psd has 150 layers or so it is often possible to merge groups. This way you can save transparency but apply things that might have been interpreted incorrectly by cs2.
    Also when you client says they can't open the files, is that a new feature? In the past if one opened a file from a later photoshop (as you are doing) the file would get misinterpreted but it would open. To just not open is something that ID or quark did, but not photoshop.
    I suppose it is safer that way.

  • Can I delete CS2 and CS3 files?

    I have installed CS5 all OK. Can I dlete CS2 and CS3 files to save space? Laptop is much smaller than tower!

    I believe with files you mean application cs2 and cs3 , If that is right then you can uninstall the CS3 and CS2 without and problem.

  • HELP! Can someone with CS2 please save my file as a .inx file?

    HELP! I have CS3 and I need to save an InDesign file created in CS3 as an .inx file that can be opened in CS. I found out the only way to do this is to open it in CS2 and export it as an .inx file, but I don't have CS2.
    Will someone out there with CS2 save the file as an .inx file for me please if I e-mail it to you?
    Thanks!

    Click through my name for email info. But be warned that there may be serious text reflow due to the differences between the text engines, and anything using the features new in CS3 will be lost or badly damaged.

  • Can CS2 open CS3 files?

    I will be creating CS3 files for a new client that has CS2. Can CS2 open CS3 files? I'm sure this has been asked many times here, but I can't find the answer in a search. Thank you.

    Yes, unless the file contains anything created by a CS3 specific feature that does not exist in CS2.  They're both old versions, so I can't think of any off the top of my head.  Just remember to save with maximize compatibility checked.
    A flattened file would never be a problem, of course.

    There are four ways that I know of:
    1) Play the DVD and have the player's analog outputs connected to your DV VCR or camcorder, which then acts as a convertor to bring it into FCP
    2) MPEG StreamClip - FREE, rips the video and audio from the VIDEO_TS folder
    3) DVDxDV - $20 or so, does the same thing as MPEG-Streamclip only a little easier, IMO
    4) Cinematize - $70, same thing, more options
