Saving an Illustrator CS3 file to CS2?

How can I save an Illustrator CS3 EPS file so that a CS2 user can open it? If so, how is this accomplished?
Thanks,
Kelly

If you Save As, hen click Save, you will be presented with a second dialogue asking for version number. Select CS2 or earlier and the file can be edited in CS2. Some effects and appearances might not survive the translation or will require flattening, which makes them harder or impossible to edit.
Your colleague might also be Placing the EPS rather than opening it.

  • Cannot Open 'CS3 file in CS2' - programmatically handle this dialog

    I am running a Visual Basic app that cycles through a collection of InDesign documents performing actions. We are using CS2 and the problem occurs when a CS3 document is encountered, which hangs the app. When opening the file manually the following error dialog is encountered:
    Cannot open "xxxx.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the lastest version of Adobe InDesign.
    InDesign is launched by:
    appInDesign = CreateObject("InDesign.Scripting.CS2")
    User interaction is suppressed:
    appInDesign.ScriptPreferences.UserInteractionLevel = InDesign.idUserInteractionLevels.idNeverInteract
    Documents are opened by:
    docInDesign = appInDesign.Open(<FilePath>, False)
    How do you handle/identify this dialog/error without user interaction (I would like to skip the file)?
    Thanks in advance

    If you opening CS3 file in CS2 you alway get error message.
    I think best solution is check indesign document version before opening it.
    I have code for checking indesign version but it is Javascript code.
    But it will give you idea how you can check indesign version and skip that files.
    Here below is code:
    f = File.openDialog ('Select file', undefined, false);
    alert('Indesign version: '+getFileVersion(f));
    function getFileVersion(f){
    var IDVersion;
    f.open('r')
    f.seek(29, 0)
    IDversion = f.readch().charCodeAt(0);
    f.close();
    return (IDversion);

  • When I saved an Illustrator CS6 file to EPS format, I got "could not complete the requested operation. unknown error."

    When I saved an Illustrator CS6 file to EPS format, I got "could not complete the requested operation. unknown error."
    Google it and find some temp fix. run the illustrator by using "Run as admin" mode and fix the problem, but when use run as, can't see all the original user's mapping drives.
    So still need it fixed.

    It is win 7 64 bit system and same error on Illustrator x86 and x64.

  • Opening CS3 Files With CS2

    I am running iMacs (Leopard). I have CS2 on 1 machine, CS3 on the other.
    When I try to open a CS3 file with CS2, I get a long list of extensions/plug ins that need to be updated.
    Where can I find the updates?
    Thanks.

    I assume you're referring to InDesign (please post application specific
    question in the application forums), you'll need to export as INX and
    open that.
    Don't expect perfection.
    You can search the InDesign forums for INX for more info.

  • How do I send a large Illustrator CS3 file to a client that needs it for printing?

    How do I send a large Illustrator CS3 file to a client that needs it for printing?

    Hey, another way that i just discovered by complete accident is by selecting what you want to send, and in Illustrator, going to File>Save For > and then click on okay. > then you save it under Pictures or wherever you wish, and name it. Now, all you have to do is compose an email, and attach it!
    Hopefully this works for you like it does for me!

  • Which Illustrator CS3 files are editable in Microsoft Word?

    Dear all
    I need to design something using InDesign and Illustrator CS3 (or just one of these depending on the responses I get).
    Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)? It would mainly just be text which would need to be edited in Word afterwards.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adam

    >Which Illustrator CS3 files are editable in Microsoft Word?
    None of them.
    >Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)?
    You can export text from InDesign and open/edit that text file in Word, but you will not get layout, page size, columns, margins, or graphics. You can export art from Illustrator as EMF or PNG (I much prefer PNG) them import those graphics normally and position as you want.
    Making your Illustrator or InDesign file into an editable Word file means doing a lot of it over again in a much worst interface.

  • Illustrator CS3 files prints without black when sent to printer

    Howdy,
    First, excuse my noobiness.
    I have a large (dimension wise) illustrator cs3 file that consists of a warm gray color for the background and solid vibrant colors on the fore. No linked images, only vectors. Everything is in cmyk. I printed to our laser just to see how the colors are looking and they were fine. Then I plotted it in-house at full size and those prints looked fine too. I sent the same illustrator file to our printer but when they printed it their prints looked pastel/too light as if the file I sent them didnt contain any blacks. Exporting to a .tiff fixed the problem, but I really wanted to avoid .tiff files because of how large the graphics are going to be in the end (about 3ft wide by 18+ ft tall). Is there something that I should've done before turning in the illustrator files to our printer?
    Thanks in advance
    -j

    Hi
    am sorry but that means if u made atiff u need to make a pdf and print right in acrobat ie (pdf/X1 a) or
    if u to print in AI u place that pdf Linked Dont embed it works if its not ya colour Values

    Thanx

  • Exporting Illustrator CS3 files to Illustrator CS2

    Can anyone tell me how I can "downsave" an Illustrator CS3 .eps file to be able to open it in Illustrator CS2? Thanks.

    You need to Save the CS3 file as a legacy version.
    Choose Save As, give it a name, click Save. On the next screen, choose CS2 from the drop down list at the top.
    Good luck!

  • Opening illustrator cs3 file in Fireworks changes color, but not code

    I created a vector graphic in Illustrator CS3, with RGB. I
    then opened the file in Fireworks and everything looks fine because
    it's still vector. But the color is not right. It's close, but much
    lighter. The RGB values are exactly the same.
    Anyone have this problem before?
    thanks,
    Justin

    Fireworks does not use color profiles, so the colors you see
    in Fireworks will be what the majority of Web site visitors will
    see (skipping, for the moment, the huge problem of monitor
    variation). Only Safari displays images using the color profiles.
    I recently read a moderately controversial blog post on
    setting/disabling profiles in Photoshop (comments disabled at 200),
    but many people appreciated the article here:
    Best
    Practice Color Setup for Web Designers
    So, while your experience is with Illustrator, it's probably
    the same underlying cause. Illustrator is showing you the colors
    with an ICC profile, even though they're in RGB. When you open the
    image in Fireworks, you see the colors without a profile.
    This is one reason I like using Fireworks. I have a better
    feeling about what my visitors are going to see (again, setting
    aside the huge problem of monitor variation).

  • Problems with saving in Illustrator CS3 - Windows

    I'm using Illustrator CS3, Windows XP. Even the smallest files take a very long time to save. I try to save and it initally appears as if nothing is happening. If I click again, a portion of my screen goes white and the hour glass sits for what feels like forever while "Not responding" appears next to Illustrator in the bar. Eventually it finishes. Have run into the same problem with PhotoShop a couple times as well. Seems to have started after my upgrade to CS3. Can anyone help?

    "it initally appears as if nothing is happening" - no-no, disk indicator should be bright and nearly no-blinking!
    Solutions are (depending on the problem severity):
    1. Make more layers (even for the same kind of objects, especially for texts)
    2. Use RAID 5 disks for scratch files (VelocyRaptor is the best choice)
    3. Use i-RAM for scratch files (if the project not too big)
    4. Use RIndMA disk (http://hardwareforall.com/ww/serverRAMdisk.html) for scratch files

  • Save CS3 File to CS2

    Hi,
    How you save a Photoshop CS3 file so that someone on the other end can open it using CS2?
    Thanks
    Kit

    Just save it.
    It shouldn't matter too much between CS3 and CS2 although Smart objects won't show as smart objects as CS2 had none. Always save with maximum compatibility.

  • Viewing large Illustrator CS3 files problem

    I use bridge to browse through previous work in created in Illustrator CS3.
    Problem - when viewing these files in Bridge some files (whatever their dimensions) show as large thumbnails and others (with the same AI dimensions) are small and do not seem to stretch in Bridge?
    Can anyone explain how to stretch the thumbnail in Bridge.

    Sorted - I need to save the CS3 file with 'create pdf compatible file' checked in the options, and it then opens as a large thumbnail in bridge.

  • Importing Illustrator CS3 files into flash CS3 to tween

    Hello,
    I'm definitely not a flash pro so I would like some help!
    I'm trying to animate a man in Flash CS3 who was drawn in
    illustrator CS3.
    I've imported all the layers but when I try to tween them
    only the ones that have a single path tween correctly. Can you only
    tween single path layers or am I being an idiot?
    Many thanks and I look forward to your comments!

    you can actually make illustrator drawings into symbols for
    use in Flash CS3 while they're still in Ai. I would try that
    approach first. There are some video tutorials on Adobe's site-
    I've lost the link.
    That takes it out of the multi-layer wackiness, and puts
    everything together in nice packages.
    Hopefully I'm not telling you something you already know X

  • Saving CS3 file as CS2 file

    I am trying to save a document cover that I created back as a CS2 file. The art department in my company has not upgraded to CS3 yet. How do you go about doing that. I still have the old version. Please help!
    kt

    All later versions open the earlier versions. But not the other way around. So if someone has CS3 they can directly open a CS2 file.

  • Converting CS3 Files to CS2 - Any Ideas?

    Hi folks,
    I know CS3 doesn't save down to CS2. Has anyone found a work-around for this. I have a customer who is still on CS2, she is getting files from another vendor in CS3 and is looking to have them saved as CS2. We have both CS3 and CS2.
    Thx,
    Sandy

    > but you loose new features from ID CS3
    Or worse...those features are badly mangled. Additionally, it's very
    likely that text will reflow. Not recommended for anything but the most
    basic layouts.
