  • How do I save to a networked location in Firefox for Linux?

I have a a few laptops with 16 and 20 gig hard drives that I'm more or less trying to use as thin clients. All personal files are stored on a Windows 2008 server.
When users attempt to save files with Firefox, their preferred browser, they report that they are unable to save to a network location as they cant find anything in the save window pertaining to Network or Samba, so they are unable to find the server, and have to save files to the almost full hard drives, then copy the files to the server by dragging and dropping. there has to be a way to save files directly without having to drag and drop the files by hand.

Firefox may be trying to copy the access permissions from the temp folder that is initially used when the download is started to the destination location on the network drive and fails to do that.
In that case you will have to copy the files yourself to that drive after you've saved the files locally.

  • JS InDesign CS4: save document into specific location on a network

    Hi,
I been able to save my document with new name, but I am not sure how to specify new network location for it. Here what I have:
    app.activeDocument.save (myFileName+".indd");
Thank you very much for your help.
    Yulia

(Aside: me not a John, me a Theun. [JW] is just a convenient handle.)
"/SPACE"+yourfilename is not a fully qualified path name. For one, with a 'yourfilename' of "foo", it will result into a full string
    /SPACEfoo
and this can be taken apart in a path "/" (the root of your current drive) and a filename "SPACEfoo". You need another slash after "SPACE".
Second, you should investigate what a full path looks like. I seriously doubt "/SPACE/" is a valid path on your machine. Use the one line script I showed to check what it looks like for a saved ID document.
A small trick you might want to use is, pressing Ctrl+C (or Cmd+C, on Apples) with a dialog on screen copies the entire text of that dialog. That's how I copied the full path and file name into my previous mail -- I didn't type it in manually.
[EDIT] Sorry, I did not include that one line script. It simply is
    alert (app.activeDocument.fullName);

    Hi Folks,
We have a requirement in our project to save a scheduled report to a network folder location other than BI server.(client specified machine).
we have a VB script which we are invoking through actions in Agents which saves the report in the same BI server but we didn't find any code for this specific requirement.
Need inputs if anyone have similar code/suggestions.

David, I would suggest you go to my blog and download the BIPublisherIDE. This can be slapped into any application very easily.

  • "connecting to server" lag when trying to save documents to network

the problem is he can be fine for the full day, then it will happen.
    very odd.
server has been restart, not happening to any other user.

I am pulling out my hair on this one.
    Clients network is very simple:
Dell Server with AD and 4 computers.
One user out of the blue when they open Outlook or Excel/Adobe and go to save to My Documents or a network share they get "connecting to server" and it hangs for some time.
    I have done the following:
    - Replace router (other reason), replace switch, toned/tested/re-terminated wire to this desk.
    - Wiped and reloaded this machine multiple times
    - Removed all antivirus on workstation and server
Still happening.  Everyone else has no issue, all same version of Office (2013).  His My Documents is redirected and only 10GB, other users have 60GB in this folder.

  • Unable to save a file to a mapped network location.

    Hello Everyone,
Our users only have this issue when trying to save it directly from Photoshop. All other Creative Suite applications do not give our users an issue when saving to this network location, which is a NAS drive. They can do so just fine with InDesign, Illustrator, etc. Our network Admin accounts can save to the NAS, but the only difference is that our Admin accounts have full control permissions. Obviously for security reasons we cannot allow our end users to have full control, they do however have read/write/modify permissions. This is more of an nuisance than it is a pressing issue. I say this because the users in question can save the document locally, and then move it into the network location. We have attempted everything we have found on these forums, and others as well. In an attempt to alleviate redundant responses, I will attempt to list all of the things we have tried.
Confirmed all CS6 applications were up to date.
Turned off the saving of image previews within the file handling preferences.
Cleared PS preferences. (Holding Alt, Ctrl, + Shift on startup)
Giving their domain accounts permissions rather than relying on the security group.
Navigating through windows explorer rather than using the mapped drive.
Making sure they were local admins on their computers.
    Launching PS as Administrator.
Taking the Administrator preferences file (C:\Users\Adminstrator\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings\Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp) and pasting into the users preference folder.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

If it eas not locked and you could delete it dismiss the pop-po and try the save again.  M: should be mapped to a share that is for that user only?
Adobe support I believe states that Photoshop does not officially support network drives.

  • InDesign 9.2 - Save to network location takes a long time.

Saving InDesign files to a network location seems to take an extremely long time during which I am unable to do anything else inside InDesign.
I know that this has been an issue for me for at least 2 weeks (since March 3, 2014, possibly earlier). I am not certain whether I have updated InDesign since then, but have consistently been experiencing this same problem.
Today I ran some tests (all using the same ~20MB file).
Save from InDesign to network location: 12 seconds
Save from InDesign to desktop: <2 seconds
Copy file (in Windows Explorer) from desktop to network: <2 seconds
Copy file from network to desktop: <2 seconds
I know I can work on the file locally and copy my saved versions out at the end of the day, but this was not necessary before, and I don't know what changed to make this take so much longer than it used to.
Current system configuration: InDesign 9.2 x64 running on a Win 7 Pro 64-bit with 16GB RAM and a Xeon 3.6GHz processor.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas on how to resolve?
    Thanks!

Daylight savings time started on the 9th, right? I'm not sure about what a "server time sync problem" would be, but since my problem started before the DST switch, it doesn't seem that this could be the cause.
Also, since I am able to copy to and from the server outside of InDesign without any problems, doesn't this indicate the server and my computer are communicating just fine?
    Thank you for your assistance!

  • HP M5035-MFP - How can I enable Fax-to-Email AND Save to Network Location?

    Good morning experts!
In our business, we currently use the fax-to-email functionality of the M5035 MFP to email incoming faxes to an email address, attached to which are a set of forwarders that proceed to send copies to everybody who needs one. We would also like to begin cataloguing the faxes we recieve on a file server on our network. My questions are therefore as follows:
Is it possible to enable both "Save to Network Location"  and the "Fax-to-Email" functions at once? If so:
How do I access the menu to adjust these settings? I can't seem to find it on the printer itself, and when I access the printer's IP through a web browser and go to the "Networking" tab, this is what I see:
     3. This is in a Windows Domain environment (domain controller is Server 2012 Standard). Are there any special provisions I should make server-side to ensure that the Save to Network Location functionality works smoothly? Any special permissions that need to be set?

  • Saving file to network location

    Hello all of you,
I encounter an issue with InDesign CS5 when it comes to opening and saving files to a network location. I added my company's ftp server to Windows 7 and it appears correctly in the My computer overview (there's an additional line besides the hard discs, DVD player, et cetera). The connection to the server functions fine, no issues here. No problem exists when opening files from this server from within InDesign; I can do whatever I want. Only when I try to save a file the network location isn't displayed anymore within the My computer overview in the InDesign "Save as" dialog box. The network location however appears in the pull-down menu at the top of the dialog box (and nested as part of My computer ...), but when I pick it there, it won't show the context of the server. Additionally logging onto the server (it's IP-based and anonymous logon) doesn't change a thing. Trying to save in the empty server space InDesign returns a "Can't save here" error message.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
    Best regards,
    Luc Peulen

Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Building the document locally and then copying back to the server isn't a solution, because all external content that is linked in the document resides on the server.
Scott is basically right. Lots of ID users work over network connections without issue, but if something is going wrong, it's the first place to look. I wouldn't have thought it possible to work in InDesign over a FTP connection!
If you can get Windows to access that server as if it were just another drive (using "Map network drive" in Explorer) then it should work normally. However, a generic Adobe phone tech wouldn't help you figure out why it wouldn't work - there are simply too many variables in a network environment for a generic first-level tech to figure out.
In the short term, the only solution I can suggest is:
Retrieve all of that external content that is linked in the document, and the InDesign document, at the same time, & store it on your local hard drive.
    Do your work.
    Save & package.
Upload the entire package back to the server.
Long-term, you'd need to talk to your own IT staff to troubleshoot the connection between your workstation and the FTP server. If you can get information about your network from them to post here, I bet that someone will make suggestions to pass on to your IT staff that will actually work.

  • Error Creating PDF - saving to network location

    Using Acrobat Standard 8.1.3
I am unable to save a PDF to any location on our network.  I am able to save the file to my local hard disk.
When I create a PDF using the toolbar in MSWord for instance I get a the following message "The system cannont find the file specified"
When I create a PDF from within Adobe Acobat i get the following message "Unable to open the document xxxxx.doc.  Please check to see if you have read permissions for the above file"
I can confirm that I have full accesss to the shares I am trying to save the file to.
I am able to save other types of documents to these shares.
If I log in as a domain administrator I have the same problem with the same file.
This is occuring for a lot of our users and has only started happening in the last month.
    Any Ideas?

Almost every time this problem crops up it is an issue with how Acrobat interacts with the particular network software. I have no idea why, but it seems that the only solution is to save locally and then copy to the network location. This answer is probably not what you wanted, but it is all that I am aware of.

  • Save document from word into sharepoint library does not work !

    Hi,
I'm trying to resolve a problem that i have with word and my sharepoint website.
Some of my users have to open and RDP session on a windows 2008 server and work from there. They open their session with their credential and they do everything they do in local on sharepoint using IE.
BUT, we have always and ever had an issue on this server as they c'ant save a document (Word or Excel) from office. They have to upload it from sharepoint uising IE. In example, i want to save my document from word into the sharepoint document library I  have
    this error message :
"Windows doesn't find (http://intranet.sharepoint.com/DocumentLibrary/). Check and retry".
If I open my sharepoint site and i upload the document it works perfectly. Also if I open and edit an existing document from any library it will work with word. The problem seems to happen when i want to browse sharepoint from word for saving files...
As this server is a windows 2008, IE version is 9 and the office version is the same as on all computers (Office 2010 SP2 32Bit)
    Any help would by appreciated

    Hi,
I understand you encountered the issue when save document from Office client application to SharePoint 2010 site.
Is there any Proxy settings in networking side? Please bring up IE > Internet options > Connections > Lan settings. If so, please uncheck options in Proxy server and test the issue again.
If you have deploy GPO to add SharePoint site into Trusted sites, please check if there is any other GP associated with trusted sites that might affect the issue. You could also remove it from Trusted sites via IE options and test the issue again.
In addition, please provide more error message to help narrow down the issue, you could locate error information in Event log at least.

  • Manage-bde command is not generating recovery key on network location

    Hi,
I am trying to save the recovery key to the network share location and start up key in the USB drive while enabling bit locker. When the OS drive gets encrypted, the default folder for recovery password shows that it contains 1 file but not getting anything
inside it when i checked the properties of the folder.
i have already changed the group policy as "choose default folder for recovery password".
I am using the command to enable the bit-locker as "manage-bde.exe -on C: -rk
<network location to save recovery key> -sk <location of the USB drive>
-rp to enable the bit-locker. It is generating the start up key in the USB but not the recovery key on network share.
Can anyone suggest what i am missing or what else i should do to generate the recovery key on network share.
Does manage-bde process be able to save the recovery key on network share or it hand over to some other process to perform this task.
    Thanks
    Gaurav Ranjan

I got you Manoj, but I want to ask you one think that what if i lost the startup  key or my USB stick. I have my recovery key on the network share.  In order to log-in my machine I need the recovery password. From where i will get the recovery
password(48 digit). Surely from the recovery key on the network share. So how can i get the recovery password if only we have the recovery key.
I know both are different in context. Both are two different thing. I have lost my USB stick along with the recovery password and I have to log-in my machine. How can i do that i want to know that. Do there is any method to get recovery password from the
recovery key on network share. I have retrieved the recovery password when the recovery key in AD. But this time it is on network share.
Also one think which I need to solve is that the manage-bde -protectors -add command creates a new .bek file along with the older one. So the .bek file which get shown at the time of the start up of the machine is different from that stored in the network.
So i am getting confused as which .bek file is for which machine and hard to retrieve the password.
Is there any method to store recovery key on network without the -protectors -add command line so that both the .bek file should be matched and can easily be known for indiviual machine in an OU. As if both the .bek files will be different it would be difficult
to to retrieve the recovery password for the machines.
Please do inform if you need some more information about the scenario if i missed something.
    Thanks

  • I can't save documents in Pages.

I can't save documents in Pages. I get a "file does not exist" error message. I've tried changing the file name, length, and location. To no avail. This is only sporadic.

    Hey fruhulda,
I have a similar problem although I'm running OSX 10.9.5.  I'v just started to completely remove pages and attempt a reinstall.  I did the search for the plist file.  There was only one file with the com.apple.iwork.pages name but it did not have the .plist extension, even when I checked the info page.  Is this the same file?
I'm not sure I want to update to Yosemite yet, but it looks like I may have to in order to continue to work with my pages documents, unless the reinstall works.

  • How can I allow Contribute Users to save documents somewhere other than "docs"?

Our website was rebuilt by an outside company, who took my file structure and dumped it into the new site (I use Dreamweaver and our staff uses Contribute for their little niche of the web). We have a large site with multiple folders within the site. Those folders have several folders below them to sub-divide the tons of info we have to keep straight. However when I set up the parameters for the Contribute users, I only seemed to have one option to save documents (the "docs" folder).
I need for Contribute users to be able to save documents/files deeper in the file structure. How can I do that?
Thanks for any assistance! I hope this made sense.
    Mark

The answer depends on how "good" your Contribute users actually are. By default, Contribute always places documents in the same folder as the page in a "documents" folder. I see two potential options: (1) the user(s) needs to go to the where the document needs to live and place the link at that level or (2) you can show your user the "Publish File From My Computer" (under file, in the third section) which would allow them to place the document in the correct location and then link to it from whatever page is appropriate. Personally, that would be a last choice.
