Save / Restore State Question

When writing a custom component, does one need to save/restore the state of facets and children. Or is this done automatically?
Thanks,
Ryan

you don't need to. Its taken care of by JSF.

  • Save and restore state on a tree

    Hi,
We're using a tree in a pagefragment and we want to save the state when someone change it.
We save the state on treenodeX_action with this:
    tree1.saveState(getFacesContext());
And we try to restore in every page with this code:
    //PRERENDER METHOD
    left leftFragment = (left)getBean("left");
    leftFragment.getTree1().restoreState(getFacesContext(), leftFragment.getTree1());
But we get an exception (nullpointer exception) when we use .restoreState method.
    What are we doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    is it imposible?

  • Help needed to recover info on iPad2 (restore state)

    Hi!
    I've a real problem.
My mother has an iPad, and she says that when try to connect to iTunes (on PC not Mac), the iPad goes to restore state.
It appears on the screen the iTunes logo with the USB wire, and waits to be connected.
If I connect to a iTunes (Mac or PC), on the computer screen appears a warning message saying:
"iTunes had detected an iPad on restore state. You must restore this iPad to use it with iTunes" (it's the translation of the spanish message "iTunes ha detectado un iPad en modo recuperación. Debe restaurar este iPad para poder usarlo en iTunes.").
But now, when i try to "recover" the iPad via iTunes, appears a new message:
"Are you sure you want to restore to factory settings of the iPad? All of it contents and stored data will be erased and the latest version of the software wil be installed", with two buttons: "Restore & upadate" and "Cancel".
I think she had tried to update to IOS 6 ...
But my mam said me: "I have all the pictures on the iPad ... don't delete it !!!!"
Now the 1 million question: Can I retrieve, in this iPad state, any information stored in it? Or I can pray to get a divine intevention?
Thnaks in advantage (and my apologies for my "spaninglish".

If the pictures on the iPad are in the camera roll and your mom has not imported them to her computer, or if she has not backed up the iPad with iCloud or iTunes, when you restore the iPad they will be erased and there is no way to save them.
If these are photos that she synced to the iPad from iTunes, she doesn't have to worry about losing the photos because they would still have to be on her computer somewhere - since that is where she would have synced them from.
So you need to find out if she backs up her iPad or if she did import them to the computer.
If she has no backup and the photos are not on the computer - her choices are restore the iPad and have a working device again and lose the photos - or keep the photos on an iPad that she can't use anyway and will not be able to get the photos no matter what she does.
Really seems like an easy choice if you think about it that way.

  • Restore state of listview connected with CollectionViewSource

Hi it's 10 days that I'm stuck on saving and restoring state of ListView connected to collection ViewSource
there's nothing special... the problem is that when I try to restore state save scrollview(extracting from ListView) position (VerticalOffset), then restoring, the position of scroll is wrong, so for eg. items in the middle of the listview are wrong.
In few words all seem works, I mean saving and restoring,  but actually the scroll position is completely wrong, when I try to restore scrollposition near middle of the list, if the position to restore is near bottom or top it works fine.
So, I mean, if I scrolled near item in the middle, then suspending and resuming the position is not right but is some items down...
the listview is groupped with albums (group ) and songs (item), nothing special, here's a piece of code
    restore

I think this may be due to cached UI layout, this need to measure again manually:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/windows.ui.xaml.uielement.measure.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

If the above methods are not working, share a demo.

  • How to save toolbar state in browser plugin?

How do I get the Reader browser plugin to save the toolbar state?
I'm using Adobe Reader XI as a browser plugin in Firefox. I've set it to disable Read mode by default. I like to have several tools at my disposal, so I right click the toolbar and show all the page display tools that I like. When I quit and load a new PDF in the browser, the toolbar state is lost and I have to show all my favorite tools again. This gets annoying when done repeatedly throughout the day.
The native Reader program saves toolbar state. Why not the plugin?

Toolbar entries for the desktop and browser instances are different, so what you assign in one won't update the other. That's because a lot of things aren't allowed in the browser plugin. You can't directly manipulate the toolbar options in the browser instance of Adobe Reader XI, they're factory-defined.

  • How to save the state of a program ?

I am working on a program, where one can open several tabs with JEditorpanes, and in the tabs one can read a webpage. I was wondering if there is a way to save the state of the program. For example the program starts with three tabs, but say that the user opens three more tabs. How would one save this info, so that it could be retrieved again when the program is restarted ?????

Check out java.util.prefs.Preferences. This is the standard API for loading/saving preferences between sessions of an application.

  • Database in "Restoring" state --- HELP

Ok.  I have spent hours on this already.
We were restoring a database from tape.  The tape drive failed in the middle of the restore.  So now we CANNOT restore from tape to try again.
Before I started the restore, I detached and made a copy of the database files.
The database is in "Restoring" state.  All I want to do is DELETE the "restoring" database and attach the copy.
How do I get rid of this thing?????  In 2000 it was an update of the sys.databases.  In 2005, you cannot do that anymore.
    SQL 2005 (9.0.2153)

I had a situation where my database showed restoring state and I couldn't run any queries and couldn't connect with our software.
What I did to get out of this situation is:
    1. Stop all SQL related services from windows services.
    2. I opened the DATA folder where the Ldf and Mdf files resides in the SQL directory, normally its like :
    "C:\Program Files\***********\MSSQL\DATA
    3. Then I copied both the Ldf and Mdf files of the database:
          [db name].mdf         and        [db name]_log.ldf
I copied both of these files to another folder.
    4. Then I started all the SQL related services (in step 1) again from windows services.
    5. Started my MS SQL Management studio with normal login.
    6. Right click on the culprit database and hit DELETE (to delete the database at all).
    7. All the LDF and MDF files related to this database have gone from DATA folder (mentioned in step 2).
    8. Created a new database with the same name (same name of the one I deleted in step 6 - the culprit database).
    9. Then [database name]->right click -> tasks -> Take Offline.
    10. I then Copied both the files (from step 3) back to the DATA folder (step 2).
    11. [database name]->right click -> tasks -> Bring Online.
    12. AlhamduLLilah , its all done.

  • How do you save "game state" so the user can continue next time?

I'm not sure what the correct game terminology is for this, but how do you save "game state" so the user can continue next time?
This seems like a pretty important feature for building some games, we don't want users to have to start over everytime.
Any ideas if this is possible?

Check out my blog post on the PersistenceManager:
    http://www.unitedmindset.com/jonbcampos/2010/11/01/flex-4-5-persistencemanager/
This will help you understand how to store the data. When the app starts up again get the state information from the persistencemanager and reset you game to the state you need. It requires a bit of code for the startup, but it is relatively simple.

  • My mac no longer saves its state when the battery runs out.. ??

Earlier when My mac drained it's battery & was not plugged in, it would give me a warning then save it's state & shut down.... Now 1 1/2 years into my Macbook Pro 17" intel it turns off but doesn't save my state, so anything not saved is lost.. (basically as if the power was pulled ) is there a setting for this ? or is my battery no longer performing well enough for my mac to safely save it's state before it turns off ?

  • Sometimes Undo is "Undo Save History State for Image"...

Anyone know why the Undo command occasionally produces "Undo Save History State for Image" rather than a proper undo of the last operation?

I am aware of your contribution to this forum and genuinely have utmost respect for what you say, however without getting too heavily into the semantics of the meaning of the word “bug” I would truly appreciate your thought on this …
    b_gossweiler wrote:
If you export (or also print) an image, an entry is inserted into the develop history of the image. Although these steps (export, print, ...) cannot be physically undone, the undo removes this history step from the develop history of the image. This makes sense and - IMHO - is not a bug at all.
    Beat
Would it not be reasonable that when a user requests an “undo” that they would expect this to undo the last thing “they” did regardless of what any background task is doing?
If this does occur when performing some background task on several hundred or thousand images does this mean that they could struggle to actually achieve any meaningful undo operation on what they are currently working on because they could be attempting to undo many state changes?      If so, could one consider that from a user’s perspective the undo mechanism is actually broken in this scenario?
If they request an “undo” and it does not perform to the users reasonably expected behaviour would it not reasonably be considered at least undesirable if not a bug?
If they perform an “undo” and they get this message have they actually undone something which might be important?
Even if it has no ill effects the message alone could be unsettling and confusing to users?
You say it makes sense and I know I’m slow, but I would not expect a user to see this message when the user wants to undo for example the modification to exposure or other slider they have just changed.
I’m not hung up on this as I have seen no ill effects other than mild inconvenience; however I would respectively appreciate your views on how this “makes sense” from a user’s perspective.

    I am getting

I know this error is as my bean is getting passivated and then when I try to use the Remote Interface that bean this error is thrown
I require a method by which I can catch this error and create a new bean whenever required. Does anyone knows of any way by which I will catch this specific error and create a new Stateful bean.
I mean to say some way by using the Remote Interface to find out whether the bean is active or has been vanished form the memory
    Thanks in advance

  • Save/restore in PostScript

    Hi,
I'm student of SPbSU. I have the work "Compiling PostScript's programs into Java byte-code" in this year.
Can anyone explain, how does save/restore work with composite objects? How does "save" do the snapshot, when many composite objects share the same value. Does it change references?  How does PostScript restore their references afterwards ?  It is necessary to understand because it's not clear how to realize these operators in Java.
    Thanks,
    Artur.

You have an interesting challenge. The definition of the effect of save is in the PostScript Language Reference. There are no rules about how it is done. Because composite objects are large, they are not usually actually duplicated. There are a number of possible implementations, but one possibility is to store as part of the composite definition the level to which it belongs, then duplicate-on-write. You would probably need to implement your own primitive objects as classes, for all PostScript object types, rather than use the direct Java implementation because every type of PostScript object has special properties not available to Java (e.g. literal/executable). Really, you are writing a PostScript interpreter, be aware that this is likely to be many years of work.

  • Method to save application state just before quit

I am using the user preferences to save the state of my game so that when a user goes away and comes back, it comes back at the same place they left. However, I am saving to this every turn. Is there a better way of doing this. Putting it in the applicationWillTerminate method maybe? If so, I'm not quite sure how to accomplish it there. Can anyone give any advice on this?
    Thanks.

I made it work by setting up the MainViewController as a class and a variable in the Application Delegate. Then once the MainViewController was established, I called a method I put into the Application Delegate to set that variable to "self" (meaning MainViewController instance). Finally, in the applicationWillTerminate method of the Application Delegate, I used that variable to call the save method in the MainViewController.
Perhaps this is difficult to follow without seeing the code, but does this sound overly complicated, or about right?
    Thanks.

How can I restore Answers questions?!Knowing that he rejects the recovery on e-mail

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.
