Saving anchored frame as a style?

Framemaker 7.1
I would like to save an anchored frame as a style or paragraph format or? so all frames are the same size. Alternately, I could select all frames, if there is a way, and change all their sizes at once if that is possible.
Do I have any options to do this?
Thanks.
~Bob

One other possibility if you're so inclined would be to save the file as MIF and use a grep (search and replace scripting) tool to change the anchored frame(s) settings, by editing the following lines:
  <ShapeRect  1.0" 1.16667" 6.5" 2.0">
  <BRect  1.0" 1.16667" 6.5" 2.0">
A freebie MIF tool to use for examining files is MIFBrowse, at

  • Paragraph style including anchored frame possible?

    Hi,
    I'm working on a new template and can't get a specific paragraph style to work correctly.
    The page layout is a 1/3 to 2/3 page column layout. The 1/3 page column is called a "Marginalia"- column in German, sorry don't know the term in English. All graphics are in the 1/3 page column, while the text belonging to it is in the 2/3 page column. I need a paragraph style that contains an anchored frame as a placeholder for future graphics in the 1/3 page column and its corresponding text in the 2/3 page column.
    I've set up the page with only one text frame which is the width of the 2/3 page. The left margin of the this text frame is the left margin of the running text. All graphics are placed to the right of it.
    Can anyone tell me if this is possible and how to best go creating such a paragraph style?
    THANKS!

    Paragraph styles don't include an anchored frame attribute. You can include an anchored frame in any paragraph (though off the top of my head I don't know a way to insert one automatically -- perhaps it would be scriptable), and you can assign an object style to the anchored frame that contains all the positioning information as well as any text styling or graphic fitting information you might want to use.

  • It is possible to style an anchored frame for the right-heading page?

    The result showed in the picture is fine only for left pages.
    It is possible to do the inverse for the right page?  Locate the headings at the rigth side of the column?
    The idea is to apply this for subheadings in 20 vols...
    PS As scripting seems complicated the idea is avoid opening the anchor text menu for each entry.
    Here the solution was copy-paste an preformatted inline frame anchored text an soon afterward copy-paste the subheading already present in the text]

    Yes, that is right...
    But custom frames ( "relative to spine" ) apparently does not work at all when is placed at the first line of a paragraph.
    Inlines are effective...
    Also, custom anchored frames does not accept inline settings: and inlines for this situation is the best as was detailed above (fast, and more and less easy production) and also for a crucial thing: the anchored heading must be inside the paragraph.

  • Position of eps-files in anchored frame

    Hello, I'm sorry but the subject was too large to put it in the subject-field.
    Subject:
    position of eps-files (Mac Os 9, Illustrator 9.0, preview tiff black/white)
    is not correct after saving eps-files (preview macintosh black/white)
    I want to upgrade from Apple Mac 9.0 to PC. All my Framemaker-files (6.0)
    must be translated to Framemaker 8.0 (PC-version).
    When I open the old Framemaker files, there is only a problem with the
    graphics (read: the preview of the graphics in Framemaker 8.0). The result
    is: grey boxes in the anchored frames. I thought when I save the old
    eps-files (Illustrator 9 for Mac, preview Macintosh Black+white) to
    eps-files with TIFF preview, that the problem will be solved. When I open
    the framemaker-files on PC, then there are a few graphics correct
    (Framemaker displays all the graphics correct on pc). But, there are a lot
    of graphics in anchored frames who lost their right coordinates in the
    anchored frame (example: the x-position of a graphic is -25 cm en the
    y-position of a graphic is 7.9 cm). Result: I cannot see a graphic in the
    anchored frame because the coordinates were changed and because their are
    outside the frame (their are in the frame, but the graphic is outside the
    border of the anchored frame).
    When I use the old eps-files then the position is correct, but there is no
    preview available of the graphic in Framemaker 8 (in Framemaker 6.0 for
    Mac, there is a preview of the graphic).
    Are there people who has this problem too in the past? Who can give me
    suggestions to solve this problem or give me other tips to solve this
    problem.

    Hi Jesse
    I'm afraid we probably can't help much. I asked our guy and he said:
    I thought that issue had more to do with upgrading Adobe Illustrator. When you save an EPS it includes a BoundingBox comment that defines the area of the page that the figure occupies in the artwork:
    %%BoundingBox: LLx LLy URx URy
    LLx and LLy are the coordinates of the lower left corner of the figure. URx and URy are the coordinates of the upper right corner of the figure.
    When FrameMaker imports an EPS it reads the BoundingBox comment to get the size and position of the figure on the page, and therefore to compute the translation and scaling required in the PostScript output to put the figure where you want it.
    The impression I got was that when you updated the EPS figure FrameMaker didn't always refresh the BoundingBox info.
    The later version of Illustrator seemed to save files with a different BoundingBox. As a result there was a mis-match between the actual BoundingBox and what FrameMaker recorded.
    The solution for us was to simply re-import the figure. I never wrote a script to solve that problem.

  • Hel with modifying cs5/6 script...create anchored frames from text

    hello
    I have one great time saver script for cs5 for create anchored frames from text tagged with/or charachter style/paragraph style. This work in cs6 but have some "bugs" for me. Script need to be compatible with InDesign CS6.
    1. script in original (look bellow) create text frame which is fitted to lenght of the text. I make change and change 466 line:
    AnchoredTextFrame.fit(FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);
    now frame is wide as I write in check box, good. But frame not resize to lenght of the text so I add after above lines 466-470:
        var FO = FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT,
        tfs = ([]).concat.apply([], app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().textContainers),
        t, i = tfs.length;
    while( i-- ) (t=tfs[i]).overflows && ( t.locked || t.fit(FO) );
    now all is ok but is here better way to make this to work? Simply, i want to spec text frame width in dialog box, frame will resize only verticaly in direction to amount text in frame. I dont want any overset text.
    2. One "bug". For some reason script alter paragraph style of other text which is not subject to be cutted in anchored frame.
    How to resolve this?

        Script by Thomas Silkjær

    Скрипт предназначен для создания привязанных фреймов из текста, отформатированного
    каким-либо абзацным или символьным стилем. Эти стили задаются пользователем в диалоговом
    окне скрита. Там же необходимо задать объектный стиль для привязанного фрейма, в котором
    пользователь должен заранее задать оформление и параметры привязки. Далее необходимо
    указать ширину привязанного фрейма, а его высота будет рассчитана автоматически исходя из
    объема текста. При вводе дробных значений ширины привязанного фрейма в качестве
    разделителя целой и дробной части следует использовать не запятую, а точку, следуя западным
    стандартам разработчиков программы  Adobe InDesign. Первоначально идея и скрипт по созданию
    привязанных фреймов принадлежит Thomas Silkjær для версии ID CS4. C появлением версий CS5
    и CS5.5 скрипт перестал в них выполняться, да и в версии CS4 не всегда корректно работал.
    Анализируя недочеты скрипта в данной его версии были исправлены ошибки и внесены
    функциональные дополнения исходя из понимания задачи автором модификации. Добавлена
    возможность выбора стилей, если они они находятся в группах (папках), возможность выбора
    единиц измерения из выпадающего списка, изменены GREP-выражения для поиска текста,

    Hi Cari,
    I did create a new user account (admin level) and InDesign works like a charm.
    When I went back to the other account, plug-ins gone, I deleted the prefs and caches, restarted and still everything is crashing as before.
    At least I am working on one account and I will contiue to troubleshoot on the other account. And at some point either the new account will crash or the old account will work and I will go from there.
    Thanks for the info about Mac remembering info. Always trying to be helpful these Macs.
    And thanks for getting at least into a workable space!!! I am supremely grateful!

  • DITA - Multiple objects in anchored frame

    Hi,
    I'm using the DITA features in FrameMaker 9. I'd like to insert multiple objects in an anchored frame in a DITA topic.
    Right now, if I save an image element containing multiple objects, FrameMaker discards any extra objects in the frame. I've also experimented with adding extra graphics elements to the DTD using the attributes listed in the Structure Application Developer Guide. I can save DITA topics containing the custom elements, but they are not added to the XML file though I can see them in the FrameMaker interface. I have not yet experimented with a DITA specialization.
    When exporting anchored frames in Structured FrameMaker to XML, FrameMaker bundles multiple objects in a frame into a single CGM file.
    Is there a way to export anchored frames to CGM files before saving DITA topics? Is there a plug-in out there that will automatically save the objects in a frame? Can I use read/write rules to define how to treat these frames? How about creating a specialization on the objects element?
    I'd like to use the tools in FrameMaker to modify elements in an anchored frame. I don't see why doing this should break the DITA model if these objects are bundled into a single file on export.
    Thanks,
    - Maura

    Hi Maura...
    The short answer is .. you can't do that.
    DITA knows nothing about "frames" and only allows a single object to be referenced by an image element, so to remain in compliance with the DITA specification the content of a frame is tightly controlled by FM. There's nothing that you'll be able to do via read/write rules or EDD tricks to get FM to write out the data from multiple objects as a CGM .. this is overridden by the internal DITA plugin within Frame. You're correct that in theory FM could merge multiple graphics into a CGM, but this really wouldn't be a good way to operate since the text or other objects would no longer be editable. You can do this now using Illustrator or other applications that let you store the text and objects on separate layers, then save to a single file. Reference this single file in the image element in DITA.
    That said .. we are looking into supporting some subset of multiple graphic objects within a frame in DITA-FMx, and this feature may be available in an upcoming beta.

  • Accessibility: Reading order of tables and anchored frames

    I am creating accessible, tagged (section 508 compliant) PDFs in FrameMaker 9. The reading order for tables and frames is not correct.
    When I view the PDF reading order using Adobe Acrobat Professional or another screen reader, anchored items such as tables and anchored frames are  placed last in the reading order, regardless of where they appear in the document flow or page layout. The reading order skips over all tables and frames, reading all paragraphs on a page first, then reading the tables and frames as the last objects on the page. This logically doesn't make sense to skip over tables/frames as they generally apply to the content that preceeds it.
    For example, the following document structure:
    <Paragraph 1>
    <Table 1>
    <Paragraph 2>
    <Anchored Frame 1>
    <Paragraph 3>
    <Anchor Frame 2>
    <Paragraph 4>
    is being read by assistive technology as:
    <Paragraph 1>
    <Paragraph 2>
    <Paragraph 3>
    <Paragraph 4>
    <Table 1>
    <Anchored Frame 1>
    <Anchor Frame 2>
    I want the document structure to be read correctly as intended.
    In otherwords, the PDFs generated by FrameMaker 9 are not completely accessible because of incorrect reading order output by default. This information is not listed in the VPAT for FrameMaker 9.
    I want to avoid any post processing using Acrobat's Touch Up Reading Order tool. Is there a way to automate updates to reading order?
    Can FrameMaker 9 logically place tables and anchored frames into the correct reading order? How do I adjust these settings?
    Thanks in advance!

    As mentioned above, tables and anchored frames are inserted into thier own paragraph style "Frame". The paragraph style "Frame" is tagged. To my knowledge, there are no options for tagging or not tagging tables or anchored frames.
    Regardless of which paragraph type the table or anchor frame is inserted into, and what that paragraphs tagging settings are, it is still last in the reading order.
    I've tried a variety of options: tagging the "Frame" paragraph style as a sibling, child, and parent of my other paragraphs; I've even tried omitting it from the reading order. None of these options present anchored frames (and tables) in the logical reading order.
    Even images that are inline (within a paragraph; not in thier own paragraph) are not being read as part of the paragraph.  Inline images get skipped over by screen readers and get read at the end of the page, which makes no sense whatsoever.
    All tables and images end up at the end of the reading order (after ALL paragraphs) regardless of the tagging settings.
    Refer to my previous screenshot for a clear diagram of what is happening to the reading order. Each of those anchors is in it's own paragraph style. I want tables and anchored frames to be sequential in the reading order along with paragraphs. (1,2,3,4,5,6 not 1,4,2,5,3,6.)
    I'm using the Tags tab of the "PDF Setup" dialog to adjust these settings. Is there somewhere else I should be making changes to the reading order?
    This is a bit disturbing because FrameMaker touts creating accessible documents and this severe reading order issue impares my ability to do so. I would not consider documents that jump around the page in an illlogical, fixed order, to be accessible. I'm very suprised that no one else has encountered this issue (at least that I can find...)

  • Anchored Frames Adrift

    I am using TCS4 (FM11, RH10).
    In FM, I add images (import by reference), set the anchored frame to "Run into paragraph" and have it right-justified.  Looks good, and publishes to PDF fine.
    RH imports it and ignores the anchored frame spacing.  If the text is not deep enough to span the depth of the image, RH overlaps the image, preferring to manage spacing through the text.  Pictures on top of pictures.
    How can I tell RH to honor the anchors put into FM? Hopefully its a setting in RH, since there are a lot of pics and it would be a pain to have to modify all of them individually.
    Help.

    If memory serves, I applied an Object Style to my run-ins, allowing me to redefine the Object Style with a FrameMaker import template and change them automatically from Run In, to Below Current Line (or whatever else you want)
    Worked like a charm across 1000+ frames.

  • Editing anchored frame dimensions through a MIF

    I am editing an FM file saved as MIF and using a text editor to make changes. My reason for doing this is to update the width of many anchored frames from 3.65" wide to 4.85". I open the MIF file and substitute (find and change):
    <ShapeRect  0.0" 0.0" 3.65" 1.89999">  with  <ShapeRect  0.0" 0.0" 4.85" 1.89999">
    I save the MIF, open it in FM and save as FM. When I re-open this FM file, nothing has changed.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Nadeem

    I jumped the gun in sending this query! It works--my fault. I guess I have become too dependent on this forum. The actual dimension on most was 3.64999 in the MIF.

  • Anchored Frame in DITA file

    I inserted an <image> element in a DITA file. In the dialog box, I selected a screen shot (JPG). FM inserted an anchored frame with the graphic in it. The anchored frame was cropped, so I did Special>Anchored Frame and cleared Cropped. Worked fine, so I saved and closed.<br /><br />I opened the file and the anchored frame is cropped again. Re-did above steps, saved and closed, reopened, anchored frame is cropped again.

    Hi Michael...
    In the read/write rules file, add the following rule to the image element ..
    fm property cropped value is "0";
    If you make this change, be sure to update the rules files in both the Topic and Book applications.

  • Deleting anchored frames

    Hello all,
    What happens with a linked list of objects when I use the Delete method on one of these objects ? The FrameMaker Scripting Guide does not say much about this, nor does the FDK reference guide. I have tried the following but it does not work as I expected:
    doc = app.ActiveDoc;
    theGraph = doc.FirstGraphicInDoc;
    n = 0;
    while ( theGraph.ObjectValid() ) {
              tobedeleted = false;
              if ( theGraph.constructor.name == "AFrame" ) {
        theObject = theGraph.FirstGraphicInFrame;
        if ( theObject.ObjectValid() )
          if ( theObject.constructor.name == "TextFrame" )
            tobedeleted = true;
        if ( tobedeleted ) {
          nextGraph = theGraph.NextGraphicInDoc;
          theGraph.Delete();
          n++
          theGraph = nextGraph;
        } else
            theGraph = theGraph.NextGraphicInDoc;
    alert ( n );
    The document has 18 of the specified anchored frames (with embedded text frames), but the above code only deletes 5. If I just walk through the list and skip deleting the objects, the count goes up to 18, as expected. So there must be some crazy side effect of deleting an object from a linked list. But what exactly ?
    How can I walk through a linked list and delete some objects from them without disrupting the linked list ?
    Jang

    Hi Rick,
    The method you describe is what I tried to use in ExtendScript, as shown in my first posting, but apparently deleting an object after first saving its forward pointer still invalidates the forward pointer in some mysterious way. My expectation is that ExtendScript is fiddling with pointers to structures in the background, i.e. not copying objects but only the pointers to those objects.
    I found something like this when I tried to set a TextRange to contain a frame anchor.
    myrange = new Textrange;
    myrange.beg = myrange.end = anchor;
    myrange.beg.offset = 0;
    myrange.end.offset = 1;
    Believe it or not, but after these lines, both offsets are 1. So I tried to unlink the beg and end textlocs in my textrange object:
    myrange = new Textrange;
    myrange.beg = anchor;
    myrange.end = anchor;
    myrange.beg.offset = 0;
    myrange.end.offset = 1;
    Still the same result. The code that does what I expected looks like this:
    myrange = new Textrange;
    myrange.beg.obj = anchor.obj;
    myrange.end.obj = anchor.obj;
    myrange.beg.offset = 0;
    myrange.end.offset = 1;
    Isn't this total madness ? But it does tell me that some pointer juggling is going on behind the scenes. I will have another go at the linked list member deletion code and post a solution if I can find one.
    Ciao

  • How to transfer graphics from frames to anchored frames?

    Hi all,
    Here's the old situation:
    Lots of old documents where all graphics are placed in "regular" non-anchored frames.
    graphics are all scaled and positioned differently within the frames
    New situation:
    new template where all graphics must be placed in anchored frames
    Question: What is the quickest way to get all graphics from the old documents (unanchored frames) into the new template in anchored frames?
    I have tried a number of things that DO NOT work:
    copy graphic from original frame > try to paste it into the anchored frame
    copy old frames incl. graphic into new document, then trying to drag the graphic into the new frame
    looked for a way to change regular frames to anchored frames on some kind of menu, didn't find it.
    Do I really have to reimport, scale, and position each graphic individually?
    Hoping that someone has a good idea what to do!
    THANKS!

    Hi Eugene,
    Did as you suggested and made a small change to my already-existing object style (turned off the frame fitting options) and it now works like a charm!
    Thanks a million

  • Drag and drop images into anchored frames -- can this be done with the images imported by reference?

    My company bought a product from another company and the only manuals files that came with it were in pdf format. I am currently grabbing text out in Acrobat, then pasting and reformatting it in FrameMaker. Boring and tedious. . . .
    Eventually I get to the point of importing the illustrations. There are *hundreds* of them. As a rule, we import the files by reference, to keep the chapter size smaller and to be able to double click the image to open it for modification.
    However, I can drag an image file from the folder window and drop it into an anchored frame. Oooh, this is fast--way faster than all the mousework that goes into clicking file>import>file>[choosing the file then hitting the import button].
    But, dang it, that copies the image into the FrameMaker file. No double-click opening. Giant fm. file size. Mad boss, shaking an SOP standards sheet in my face.
    So, my question: Is there a way to import an image *by reference* by dragging and dropping them into an anchored frame?
    Thanks, folks.
    Moore. Matt Moore.

    I tried the RTF route and, in addition to getting the body text I wanted, got paragraph after paragraph of the page numbers, the illustration text, the header and footer verbiage, all randomly placed between body text paragraphs.
    I did the same file twice, once by saving as RTF and deleting unwanted stuff, then repairing body paragraphs (each line of which is a seperate paragraph in the RTF file) and also by sweeping only the necessary text, then copying and pasting it page by page. The second method was a bit faster and less frustrating. Not to say that it isn't slow and frustrating in itself, but just a bit less. Less errors, too, with the second method.
    Bummer about importing by reference. I don't suppose there's a way to set up recorded actions with hotkeys, is there? Like in Illustrator?
    Thanks, Art.

  • Best Practice for Image placement and Anchored Frames for use in Robohelp 9

    Hi,
    I'm looking for the best practices in how to layout my images in Framemaker 10 so that they translate correctly to Robohelp 9.  I currently have images inside of Anchored frames that "Run into" the right side of my text. I've adjusted the size of the anchored frame so that my text flows correctly around the image. Everything looks good in Framemaker! Yeah! The problem is that when I link my Framemaker document to Robohelp, the text does not flow around my image in the same manner. On a couple of Robohelp screens the image is running into the footer. I'm wondering if I should be using tables in Framemaker in order to get the page layout that I'm looking for. Also, I went back and forth...is this a Framemaker question or is this a Robohelp question. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    I think Jeff is meaning this section of the RoboHelp forums:

  • How does one assign change bars to the contents of an anchored frame?

    Assigning change bars to text in FrameMaker 10 appears to give inconsistent results. Sometimes I can select the contents of an anchored frame and assign a change bar to it. Other times, only the marker is assigned a change bar and not the contents of the anchored frame.
    Also, sometimes I can select a table and assign a continuous change bar to it. Other times, a separate change bar is assigned to individual rows of the table.
    Are there any workarounds for this inconsistency?
