Saving Applications From damaged HD

Hey fellas,
my macbook pro is having some hd problems and just to preempt a big meltdown ive ceased using it and ordered a new hd to install in it. Right now it doesn't boot at all but target disc still works. My question is, can I salvage my applications folder and all my applications, including cs3, final cut pro and logic and just copy them over to the new HD so i dont have to install everything seperately again. When you get your new HD, you can mount your old one in an external USB of FW box and access it as an external drive. Some apps can simply be copied over, but other apps, especially those that required a password to install, will most likely have to be reinstalled since they are tightly wrapped into the OS and not merely a simple executable.
Depending on how much the drive is damaged, you can probably get all your data back.
You might also consider using DiskWarrior on the bad disk while it is still in your computer, but only after backing it up - to see if you can completely recover it.
If you create a "live" Ubuntu linux system on a CD, you can copy your drive onto an external drive as others have successfully done.

Lion application is damaged when trying to reinstall from internet.

Hey there. I just bought an macbook pro 15 (1 month old with preinstalled lion 10.7.4). I got my self into trouble when trying to install windows next to it and was adviced to do a full clean installation of osx.
I reformatted the hd using the disc utility from the bought up which went fine, but then when choosing reinstall osx fails stating: this application is damaged and cannot be used to reinstalling lion...
I then tryied the internet recovery thingy (cmd+option+r) which completes and reboots, but when choosing reinstalling lion it stills fails stating the application is damaged.
What do i do? It seems to me there is no options here..?

I worked the internet for clues all night I finally found the problem. I posting here the solution to my problem in case someone else find them selfs in the same trouble.
It seams that the lion installer application returns an error in the log, that it cannot retreive the installation archive from apple servers, although setting the wireless and with WPA2. Even with the lan cable connected it got the same error. However this is a bug.. the installer doesn't see that there IS a connection to internet, and plainly returns the no connection error.
However resetting the PRAM and NVRAM by pressing command+option+r+p (before the grey screen apears) does the trick: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Now using force internet recovery function: command+option+r
I could now install without problems :-)

Crashes when running applications from network share - "Windows cannot access the file for one of the following reasons"

Hi,
starting a couple of weeks ago, we get the following error(s) when running applications from a network share. We don't know what causes this, we are not aware of any major changes in our network infrastructure or client/Server configuration. We did upgrade
a lot of machines to Windows 8, but the issue also occurs on older Win7 computers.
We figured out a workaround though: The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share (like
\\share.domain.Company.com) and only cause problems when running from
\\share directly. They have worked fine for years without FQDN though.
Any ideas?

It sounds like a DNS suffix issue. When this issue occurs, please try to ping share on the client, then check if the corresponding IP address is correct. If the IP address is wrong, please adjust your settings of DNS to make sure that the client can resolve
the share correctly.
If it's very hard to change the settings of the DNS for some reason, as a work around, we can add the entry into the clients' hosts file.

Gatekeeper failure: Application is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash

I have installed Eve online.
With the first try to start it I received message "Eve Online is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash".
I know my Gatekeeper may protect me from apps downloaded from internet so I tried open Eve online application with Ctrl also. I tried open it using context menu also.
Everything ended with same message = Damaged move to Trash.
Re-download and reinstall resulted in the same behavior (almost 8GB download).
However I found out later on that disabling Gatekeeper by selecting "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere" is the only way how to solve it.
When Gatekeeper is off application works without any problem.
So my question is: Is this behavior of Gatekeeper correct?
I do not think so. Gatekeeper should stop mark applications as broken if they are not. It can be marked as dangerous. It can be marked as Blocked. But it should say always: Gatekeeper marked it as dangerous because ... Gatekeeper blocked it from start because ....
Am I right? Should I write a bug report for this or there is something I missed?

To be honest I checked it and I found their suggestion to switch off Gatekeeper.
However I expected I can avoid Gatekeeper using Ctrl or starting application from context menu because I prefer to keep Gatekeeper switched on for regular work.
I know now, that I cannot. The only way is to disable Gatekeeper generally.
But the question is: Do you think that message "Application is broken..." is valid for case when Application is evaluated by gatekeeper as potentially dangerous? Based on this experience I see it wrong. Application is working ok and Gatekeeper marks it as broken.

Major Problem with importing application from QA environment to PROD

We did our first ever full move of our application from our QA server to our PROD server tonight. First, I exported the current PROD application version as a backup. Then I did an export of the application on QA and then imported it into PROD using the same application ID as it had previously (which is the same as it was in QA). When the installation portion of the import was running I received an error. The error was: ORA-20001: GET_BLOCK Error. ORA-20001: Execution of the statement was unsuccessful. The problem is that the saved reports are not in the application we are exporting, they are in the one we are trying to update. I'll try to provide a more detailed description of what we are doing. We have two separate server environments, one for our production Oracle databases and our production APEX workspaces and applications. The other is for our development and QA Oracle databases and APEX workspaces and applications. Both environments run the same version of Oracle. So, on the production environment, we have a workspace called "payorprofile" and, within that workspace we have an application with application ID 126. That is where our users have been happily creating their saved interactive reports for the past 4 months. On the development environment, we have a workspace called "payorprofile" and, within that workspace we have an application with application ID 126. Now we have a new version of application 126 on the development environment that we need to promote to production. This newly QA'd version does NOT have the user's saved reports but it has all of the new and changed pages, LOVs, lists, breadcrumbs, etc. We needed to merge the new pages, etc. from dev with the data and user's saved reports on prod. What we did was to export the Dev version without saved reports and then we imported it into the prod system using the same application ID. It asked if we wanted to overlay the current application 126 with the new one and we said yes. During the install step we got the error noted in this post. The only thing we knew to do was to import the dev application as a new application ID (we chose 326). The application works fine, but, of course, we don't have the saved reports. Now we need to get the saved reports into the new application 326 - and I think with the help of some articles and posts on the web we can do that. However, we need to know what to do differently the next time we are ready to promote a version of the application to production.

Saved Photos from email attachments blurry in photos.app

I have two problems since upgrading to 2.0. When I view photo attachments from my email, the photos look perfectly clear. But when I save the photos to the photos application it looks completely blurry. I did a test by saving photos from safari and there was no problems. The only way to fix this is extract the photos from ipod and resync it using itunes. Also when i plug in the ipod to windows xp, i get autorun message saying "camera connected select program for this action" there was no option to take no action. It gets annoying. Appreciate any help for my problem.

ah, the old photo resolution bug. this was supposed to be fixed in one of the 2.X updates, some people found it fixed it, some people found it didn't.

Installing and Running Air application from webpage

I am trying to run the air application from web page and its working fine in my system. (http://localhost:8080/examples/test1.html)
if i try to run the same air application from another system's webpage by pointing the url to my system's IP Address,(http://lpAdres of my system:8080/examples/test1.html) its showing error "The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author"
Air Application version are . Flex3.6 sdk and Air2.7 sdk & runtime
Any of you know what could be the problem.
please help em to resolve this issue asap.

How to get to folder in /Library/Saved Application State/com.adobe.flashplayer.installmanager.savedState

I have a file saved in a folder which according to a find ?/ -name "" search is located here /Library/Saved Application State/com.adobe.flashplayer.installmanager.saved
But I can't browse through this folder structure in Finder (I have run command to allow me to see hidden folders if that is required).
Please can someone help me to find out how to get to this file. It's an excel spreadsheet.

When I try to save another excel file that I have also opened from a password protected zip file, the automatic folder selected is "wzQL.8t0UHS". When I try to save a file with exactly the same name as the file that is missing into the folder "wzQL.8t0UHS" it tells me that the file already exists and asks if I want to replace it.
My assumption was therefore that it was some kind of cache where the file is intact.
When I've done a search on the name of the file I am looking for in Finder, I do not find the file.

Creating a file saving application

Can someone tell how to create a file saving application. i.e. an applicaiton that takes a file from one destination and saves it at another. I know I will have to use an instance of FileOutputStream to create the new file, but do I need to use FileInputStream to read the bytes of the file first, before writing it?
I would be grateful if anyone could help, as i am fair begginer at Java. Cheers.

Actually streams are more appropriate here. Only use Reader and Writer if you are sure that your file is a text file. Beyond that, it is inefficient to keep calling readLine. Read in a big chunk with a buffer instead.

Can't download an application from the net because of an apple security block

I can't install an application from the net because of some Apple security block. How do I remove or get around the block? The instructions in help say to double click the application and all that happenes is that I get the same window saying I can't install.

It's usually not necessary to change any security settings, and as a rule you shouldn't.
To make a one-time exception to the security policy, follow these instructions. They apply to Installer packages and other installable items as well as applications.
Some defective software installers may fail when Gatekeeper is enabled. Think carefully about whether you really want to run such an installer. If you do, temporarily change the setting to
Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere
When the installation is done, revert the setting.
Some applications that don't have a developer signature have been reported not to launch the first time unless Gatekeeper is disabled. Not sure how there can be two copies of the same app on your iPhone.
If a web clip from a website, press and hold the icon for the web clip or on the icon for any other app or web clip on the home page where the web clip is located until all icons start to wiggle. Select the X on the icon for the web clip that you want deleted. After the web clip is deleted, press the home button.

Saving pcitures from email directly onto iTouch?

So I was on Safari checking my email on my iTouch and I opened up a few emails I had that contained pictures. I somehow opened a link on one of the pcitures that let me save it the Photos section of my iTouch.....I have no idea how I did this and I've tried everything to save other pictures from my email onto my iTouch. Does anybody know how to do this?
