  • Painting in Applets using another class

    hi all
    I am trying the simplest of codes, using another class which paints something on the client area.
    when I run it it does draw it on the screen but then disappears or is covered. ne suggestions or reasons why this might be happening...
    the code is as follows
    package test;
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.Graphics2D.*;
    import java.awt.geom.*;
    public class TestApp1 extends JApplet {
    private Container container;
    public Rectangle rect;
    public CTest test1;
    public Graphics g;
    public void init()
    container=getContentPane();
    g=container.getGraphics();
    Graphics2D g2=(Graphics2D)g;
    test1=new CTest(false,g2);
    public void run()
    container.add(test1);
    public void stop()
    public void destroy()
    package test;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.Graphics;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class CTest extends JPanel {
    protected
    Graphics2D m_graphics;
    Rectangle m_PlotRect;
    public
    CTest(boolean resizable,Graphics2D g)
    m_graphics =g;
    m_PlotRect=new Rectangle(150,50,50,50);
    void DrawAxis()
    m_graphics.setBackground(Color.white);
    m_graphics.setColor(Color.black);
    m_graphics.drawRect(
    (int)m_PlotRect.getMinX(),
    (int)m_PlotRect.getMinY(),
    (int)m_PlotRect.getWidth(),
    (int)m_PlotRect.getHeight()
    public void paint(Graphics g)
    super.paint(g);
    DrawAxis();
    public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
    super.paintComponent(g);
    DrawAxis();

    thanx guys
    i could solve the problem. thought its good to share it with every one in case some one else falls for the same trap.
    what i did was tried to pass the Graphics object to my CTest class and then painted everything on the basis of that.
    this is where the code gets freaky.
    the correct way of doing it is not passing the graphics object to the CTest class but use the graphics object passed by the system to the paintcomponent function to do all the painting in the class.
    I did that and it works well.
    cheers

  • MenuBar in Applet using AWT

    I want to create menu in applet that uses only AWT components.
    (applet will be run inside HTML page, not in separate window)
    Method setMenuBar released only in Frame class. So problem is how to get current frame of applet correctly.
    To get current frame I used followed code:
    --- CUT ---
    Component parent = this; // extended Applet class
    while (!(parent instanceof Frame))
         parent = parent.getParent();
    ((Frame)parent).setMenuBar (...)
    --- CUT ---
    It works excellent on NN 4.7 under Linux
    (menu bar appears at top of applet) but NOT WORK on the
    MSIE 5.0 & NN 4.7 under Windows (menu bar not appear)
    Can anybody help me ?

    Applet is not a subclass of Frame, so your while-loop
    will never find a Frame to add the menu bar toBelieve me, it finds one (especially under Linux).
    >
    Applet does extend panel (which has a default
    FlowLayout), so how about setting the panel's layout
    to BorderLayout instead, then creating your own
    "menubar" panel and adding it at BorderLayout.NORTH?The problem is that you can't add java.awt.MenuBar to Panel because MenuBar class does not extend java.awt.Component.
    And method setMenuBar (MenuBar) is implemented only in Frame class, so some instance of Frame class is required anyway.

  • Pb deploying applet using sqlj

    Hi,
    I'm trying to deploy an applet I have just created. This applet connects to an Oracle 8.1.7 database using this kind of command:
    Oracle.connect("jdbc:oracle:thin:@ ... );
    Then the applet uses SQLJ class to deal with the datas.
    And after deploying my applet (I have checked all the dependancies to make sure I have everything), when I try to open the html file, I get the following error in the java console:

    OK, you were right ! In fact, I was missing all the jar files in my ARCHIVE tag, but I though that jdevelopper was taking care of all that when deploying the applet. So I don't really see what the advantage of using deploy ...
    However, now, I have another pb. I can launch the applet on my local machine with a www browser. But when trying to connect from other machines, after the loading of jar files, the html page fails on loading my applet itself which is located in mypackage5/AppInvest.class.
    The applet tag is the following:
    <APPLET CODE="mypackage5.AppInvest" ARCHIVE="jdev-rt.jar, runtime12.jar, classes12.jar, nls_charset12.jar" HEIGHT="1000" WIDTH="1000" ALIGN="bottom">This browser does not appear to support Applets.</APPLET>
    I know this is more a html - java pb, but if you have any idea ...
    Thks,

  • Using List Class in java.awt / java.util ?

    have a program that:
    import java.util.*;
    List list = new LinkedList();
    list = new ArrayList();
    ... read a file and add elements to array
    use a static setter
    StaticGettersSetters.setArray(list);
    next program:
    import java.awt.*;
    public static java.util.List queryArray =
    StaticGettersSetters.getArray();
    If I don't define queryArray with the package and class, the compiler
    gives an error that the List class in java.awt is invalid for queryArray.
    If I import the util package, import java.util.*; , the compiler
    gives an error that the list class is ambiguous.
    Question:
    If you using a class that exists in multiple packages, is the above declaration of queryArray the only way to declare it ?
    Just curious...
    Thanks for your help,
    YAM-SSM

    So what you have to do is explicitly tell the compiler which one you really want by spelling out the fully-resolved class name:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class ClashTest
        public static void main(String [] args)
            java.util.Date today    = new java.util.Date();
            java.util.List argsList = Arrays.asList(args);
            System.out.println(today);
            System.out.println(argsList);
    }No problems here. - MOD

    I used JBuilder to build applet. It's gotten IP right. Ex:strIP='192.168.100.1'

  • Class not found in applet using 2 jar files

    I have an applet which has been working for years as a stand alone or connecting directly to a derby database on my home server. I have just changed it to connect to MySQL on my ISP server via AJAX and PHP.
    I am now getting a class not found error in my browser, probably because I'm stuffing up the class path.
    The HTML I am using to call the applet is:
    <applet code="AMJApp.class"
    codebase="http://www.interactived.com/JMTalpha"
    archive="AMJ014.jar,plugin.jar"
    width="500"height="500"
    MAYSCRIPT style="border-width:0;"
    name="jsap" id="jsap"></applet>The AMJ014.jar contains the applet and supporting class files.
    The error message is strange to me because it refers to a class I noticed on another web page but which has nothing to do with my applet. Anyway, the message in full is:

  • Chat Applet using RMI .... trouble running the Applet using the IE browser.

    Hi,
    I'm trying to run a chat application using RMI technology. Actually, this wasn't created from the scratch. I got this one from from the cd that comes with the book I bought and I did some refinements on it to suit what I wanted to:
    These are the components of the chat application:
    1. RApplet.html - invokes the applet

    Using my own machine (connected to a network), I tried to test this one out by setting mine as the server and also the client. I did the following:
    1. Compile the source code.
    2. Use rmic to generate the skeletons and/or stubs from the ChatCallbackImplementation and ChatServerImplementation.
    3. Start the rmiregistry with no CLASSPATH
    4. Start the server successfully.
    5. Start the applet using the AppletViewer command.
    It worked fined.
    The problem is when I ran the applet using the browser, IE explorer, the dialog boxes, frame and buttons did appear. I was able to do the part of logging on. But after that, the applet seemed to have hang. No message appeared that says I'm connected (which appeared using the appletviewer). I clicked the send button. No response.
    I double-checked my classpath. I did have my classpath set correctly. I'm still trying to figure out the problem. Up to now, I don't have any clue what it is.
    I will appreciate much if someone can help me figure what's could have possibly been wrong ....
    Thanks a lot ...

    Hi Domingo,
    I had a similar problem running applet/rmi with IE.
    Looking in IE..view..JavaConsole error messages my applet was unable to find java.rmi.* classes.
    I checked over java classes in msJVM, they're not present.
    ( WinZip C:\WINDOWS\JAVA\Packages\9rl3f9ft.zip and others from msVM installed )
    ( do not contain the java.rmi.* packages )
    I have downloaded and installed the latest msJVM for IE5. ( I think its included in later versions)
    @http://www.objectweb.org/rmijdbc/RJfaq.html I found ref to rmi.zip download to provide
    these classes. I couldn't get the classes from the site but I managed to find a ref to IBM
    site @http://alphaworks.ibm.com/aw.nsf/download/rmi which had similar download.
    The download however didn't solve my problems. I was unable to install rmi.zip with
    RmiPatch.exe install.
    I solved this by extracting the class files from rmi.zip and installing them at C:\WINDOWS\JAVA\trustlib ( msJVM installation trusted classes lib defined in
    registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Java VM\TrustedLibsDirectory )
    This solved the problem. My rmi/applet worked.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Use awt to display histogram in a JSP?!

    Hi,
    I have been searching the web in the area awt and JSP and it feels like I am fumbling in the dark. I want to display a histogram, which shall be updated continuously from a database. I have found a program example, which is creating a histogram using awt. This example is using a frame and my question is, could I import this frame to my JSP or is there a way to make use of the awt class in a JSP and display, draw the histogram directly in my JSP page?
    Thanks in advance!

    The only way to use AWT in a JSP would be to put the
    AWT in a applet and put the applet in the JSP.

  • Applet use with HTML// also appletviewer question

    I am new to the language. I am trying to start an applet in a folder that I created on my hard drive(C:). I have included the following code in my HTML in my folder.
    <applet code="NotHelloWorldApplet.class"
    width= "300" height= "300">
    </applet>
    I have already compiled the program; I have the net beans 1_4_2 compiler, and it has compiled without errors.
    The code is :
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class NotHelloWorldApplet extends JApplet
    public void init()
    Container contentPane = getContentPane();
    JLabel label = new JLabel("Not a Hello, World applet",
    SwingConstants.CENTER);
    contentPane.add(label);
    I have also downloaded Plug-In; if that means anything. When I open the HTML folder a grey box appears; then at the bottom of the window it says that it cannot find the file; even though the file exists(I have looked with the file finder and it is in my file directory). Is it in the wrong directory? How does the file folder in windows know how to run and execute a java program with the preceding HTML code. This is the method explained in a current text book that I am using. It tells me to
    1. to compile the source code into class files.
    I used the compiler and I successfully created a .class file, (obviously the title of the program is .java program, but the class file does exist.
    Then 2. add the above code in the HTML program(which I did).
    I would like to get applets running but do not know how to correct this problem. Is there more HTML code that I need to run a java program in the folder's code.
    Also, the textbook I am using tells me to preview the applet with appletviewer. I loaded the appletviewer into the editing screen and it is a bunch of hieroglyphics. One of two possible problems are that it is not included with the Net_Beans_1.4.2(it was from another download) or the download was contaminated. Anyway, the question I have is; is appletviewer an application that is viable with Net_Beans_1.4.2 and if it is from where and how do I run or execute it to preview my applets before I run them inside an HTML document.

    Sounds to me like you're having trouble with NetBeans, not applets or appletviewer. You should consult their docs on how to access their version of appletviewer.
    It also sounds to me like you're using the book CoreJava by Horstmann/Cornell.
    Notice that they package TextPad with their book. This is for a good reason. It is very easy to be suckered into thinking you know what is going on when you have an IDE that does stuff for you. I know. I programmed in VB for a while, and I thought I knew how to do Windows programming. But I didn't. VB was doing all the work for me while I was drawing boxes on the screen and patting myself on the back. It took several major blows to the ego before I found out that all I really knew how to do was how to draw a bunch of silly boxes.
    New programmers should start out with a text editor. They get a better feel of what is going on.
    I don't know how NetBeans works -- even now I prefer TextPad over any IDE I've tried. But appletviewer works in the same way the java and javac command works, except that the argument it takes is the name of the html file which contains those applet tags (<APPLET>).
    I have some thoughts on your problem:
    1) you have an html file somewhere, but you don't know where. It is somehow created in a "window". the tag
    applet code="NotHelloWorldApplet.class"
    means "look in this directory for the class NotHelloWorldApplet.class" So if the html file you have created is not in this directory, how will appletviewer (or NetBean equivalent) know where it is? (hence, "class not found")
    2) Is this correct? You have downloaded the plug-in for your browsers, but you didn't try using your browsers to see the applet?
    If so, try this: go to IE or Netscape (or whatever you favorite browser is) and try in IE File-->Open and hit the browse button, or in Netscape File--> Open File
    Next, try to find the file "NotHelloWorldApplet.html" or whatever it is you called the "window". Open the html file.
    If it doesn't work, check to see if the html file is in the same directory as the class file (repeat procedure, but now look at files of type "All")
    3) You can make an html file with notepad. You don't need anything special. Just type in the html code that Horstmann/Cornell include into notepad and save as an html.
    Does this help?
    :) jen

  • Help Counting Vowels and Consonants using a class

    I'm currently working on a class project where I need take a user inputed string and count how many vowels and/or consonants are in the String at the user discretion. I have the main logic program working fine. However, the trouble I'm running into is how to take the string the user inputed and pass that data into the class method for counting.
    Here is the code for the program:
    package vowelsandconsonants;
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class VowelConsCounter {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            String input; //User input
            char selection; //Menu selection
            //Create a Scanner object for keyboard input.
            Scanner keyboard = new Scanner(System.in);
            //Get the string to start out with.
            System.out.print("Enter a string: ");
            input = keyboard.nextLine();
            //Create a VowelCons object.
            VowelCons vc = new VowelCons(input);
            do {
                // Display the menu and get the user's selection.
                selection = getMenuSelection();
                // Act on the selection
                switch (Character.toLowerCase(selection)) {
                    case 'a':
                        System.out.println("\nNumber of Vowels: " +
                                vc.getNumVowels());
                        break;
                    case 'b':
                        System.out.println("\nNumber of consonats: " +
                                vc.getNumConsonants());
                        break;
                    case 'c':
                        System.out.println("\nNumber of Vowels: " +
                                vc.getNumVowels());
                        System.out.println("Number of consonants: " +
                                vc.getNumConsonants());
                        break;
                    case 'd':
                        System.out.print("Enter a string: ");
                        input = keyboard.nextLine();
                        vc = new VowelCons(input);
            } while (Character.toLowerCase(selection) != 'e');
         * The getMenuSelection method displays the menu and gets the user's choice.
        public static char getMenuSelection() {
            String input;  //To hold keyboard input
            char selection;  // The user's selection
            //Create a Scanner object for keyboard input.
            Scanner keyboard = new Scanner(System.in);
            //Display the menu.
            System.out.println("a) Count the number of vowels in the string.");
            System.out.println("b) Count the number of consonants in the string.");
            System.out.println("c) Count both the vowels and consonants in the string.");
            System.out.println("d) Enter another string.");
            System.out.println("e) Exit the program.");
            //Get the user's selection
            input = keyboard.nextLine();
            selection = input.charAt(0);
            //Validate the input
            while (Character.toLowerCase(selection) < 'a' ||
                    Character.toLowerCase(selection) > 'e') {
                System.out.print("Only enter a,b,c,d or e:");
                input = keyboard.nextLine();
                selection = input.charAt(0);
            return selection;
    class VowelCons {
        private char[] vowels;
        private char[] consonants;
        private int numVowels = 0;
        private int numCons = 0;
        public VowelCons(String str) {
        public int getNumVowels() {
            return numVowels;
        public int getNumConsonants() {
            return numCons;
        private void countVowelsAndCons() {
            for (int i = 0; i < total; i++) {
                char ch = inputString.charAt(i);
                if ((ch == 'a') || (ch == 'A') || (ch == 'e') || (ch == 'E') || (ch == 'i') || (ch == 'I') || (ch == 'o') || (ch == 'O') || (ch == 'u') || (ch == 'U')) {
                    numVowels++;
                } else if (Character.isLetter(ch)) {
                    numCons++;
    }The UML given to me by my instructor calls for the counting method to be private. Being that I'm not too familiar with Java syntax I did not know if that may cause a problem with passing the user's input into that method.

    Well the only compilers i get are due to the code:
    private void countVowelsAndCons() {
            for (int i = 0; i < total; i++) {
                char ch = inputString.charAt(i);
                if ((ch == 'a') || (ch == 'A') || (ch == 'e') || (ch == 'E') || (ch == 'i') || (ch == 'I') || (ch == 'o') || (ch == 'O') || (ch == 'u') || (ch == 'U')) {
                    numVowels++;
                } else if (Character.isLetter(ch)) {
                    numCons++;
        }However, that is due to the fact that i have no data for those variables to use. I'm pretty much stuck on how to get the string the user inputs into that method shown above so the code can perform the task of counting the vowels and consonants.
    If i comment out the code within that function the program compiles and will allow me to enter the string and use the options but since i can't figure out how to pass the input to the counting method the program returns 0 for everything.

  • Passing values from applet using POST method to PHP page

    Hello there ;)
    I realy need a help here.. I`ve been working all day on sending mail from applet. I didn`t succeed bcs of the security restrictions.
    So I decided just to pass arguments into PHP page, which process them and send e-mail to me.
    So here is the problem.. I need to send String variables througth POST into my php page. Now I`m using GET method, but I need more than 4000 characters.
    My actual solution is:
      URL url = new URL("http://127.0.0.1/index.php?name=" + name + "&message=" + message);
    this.getAppletContext().showDocument(url,"_self");I really need to rewrite it into POST. Would you be so kind and write few lines example [applet + php code]? I`ve already searched, googled, etc.. Pls don`t copy links to other forums here, probably I`ve read it.
    Thanx in advance to all :)

    hi!
    i`ve got some news about my applet.. so take this applet code:
    public class Apletik extends JApplet {
        public void init() { }
        public void start()
        try
          String aLine; // only if reading response
          String  parametersAsString = "msg=ahoj&to=world";
          byte[] parameterAsBytes = parametersAsString.getBytes();
          // send parameters to server
          URL url = this.getCodeBase();
          url = new URL(url + "spracuj.php");
          URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
          con.setDoOutput(true);
          con.setDoInput(true); // only if reading response
          con.setUseCaches(false);
          con.setRequestProperty("Content=length", String.valueOf(parameterAsBytes.length));
          OutputStream oStream = con.getOutputStream();
          oStream.write(parameterAsBytes);
          oStream.flush();
          String line="";
          BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(con.getInputStream()));
          while ((aLine = in.readLine()) != null)
           JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, aLine);
           if(aLine.equals("")) break;
          in.close();
          oStream.close();
        catch (Exception ex)
          JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, ex.toString());
    }here is code of spracuj.php which is on server:
    <?php
      if(isset($_POST['msg']))
        echo('hurray!');
    ?>it has only 1 problem.. when i test it on my localhost, everything seems to be all right. but when i post it to my server, i got IOException HTTP 400 error code :( where is the problem? please help me, i`m so close :D thanx

    <<Assignment>>
    Due - midnight, Wednesday August 22nd
    This assignment will test your knowledge of Java programming using classes, encapsulation and javadoc.
    The base requirements
    Write a complete Java class to manage a Digital Recording Studio. The studio wants to keep a list of all Artists that use the studio and also wishes to keep track of all Recordings that have been made. An important function of the program is to calculate the time spent making a recording and charge the Artist for the time used.
    You must create at least the following classes, Start, Studio, Person, Artist, Recording, Address. You may create other classes if needed as well
    Start will contain main(), create one instance of a Studio and execute a Menu of commands to test your code. Studio should contain a studio name, an array of Artist and an array of Recording plus the studio manager (a Person). Each Artist should contain the name of the group and an Address. Each Person will have a name and a home address. Each recording will have a Title (usually song title), an Artist (only one), and a list of guestArtist (they are Artists but will not receive royalties) the number of the CD the recording is stored on (numbers are numerical and recordings are saved on CD-R), plus the recording start and finish times for the recording session (suggest you use Java Date class refer to the API). An Address will contain, house number (integers only), a street name and a telephone number. There is no need to store city and country.
    To enter a set of data for testing your program main() should call a method in the Start class that will fill in a set of values by creating objects and filling in values by calling methods in each class. This is the ONLY method allowed to be longer than 1 page long normally we would read the data from a file but there are no O-O principles that can be learnt with simply filling in data values. It is suggested to create say at least 4 Artists and 6 Recordings (at least one with 1 guest Artist and one with 2 guestArtists)
    A menu for testing your program should be provided (it is suggested to put the Menu into a separate class as you need at least 3 menus). While other commands are possible, only the following ones will receive marks.
    Menu commands needed are
    List the Managers name, address and telephone number
    List all Artist Names
    List an Artist telephone number (a sub menu showing valid Artists is required)
    Show all details for one Recording ( sub menu of valid Recordings will be needed and remember there can be more than one guestArtist)
    Add a new Recording, user will need to be prompted for all details.
    List the recording costs for all Artists show each Artist on a separate line with their name and total amount, charge for using the studio is $1000 per hour or part thereof, example for a 1 hour and 10 minute recording the Artist will be billed for 2 hours.
    List all the Recordings one Artist has worked on (sub menu of Artists needed), the list should show whether they were the Artist or a guestArtist
    Exit program
    Use fixed sizes for arrays, suggest 20 is suitable for all arrays. Java can handle dynamic data structures (where the number of elements can grow or shrink), but that is beyond a first assignment.
    Do NOT make ANY methods static - this defeats the Object Oriented approach and will result in ZERO marks for the entire assignment.
    Data MUST be encapsulated, this means that all the data relating to an object are to be stored INSIDE an object. None of the data detail is to be globally available within your program - hence do not store Artist names in either Studio or Recordings just store a reference instead. Do NOT create ID numbers for Artists, you should use References instead for many students this will be the hardest part as you have to use Objects, not program in a C style to solve the problem. Note that if there are any non-private data in classes then zero will given for marks for encapsulation.
    Good programming style is expected (see web page or lecture notes). In particular, you must use javadoc to generate a set of html pages for your classes. Make sure you use the special javadoc style comments in your source code. Marks will be granted for both using javadoc and also for including sensible javadoc comments on each class and each public method.
    What to Hand In
    Read the turnin page, basically the .java files, a readme.txt to tell the marker which file the program starts from plus the javadoc (html) files. Do NOT send .class files (if you do send these we will delete them and recompile your program), do NOT compress with gtar, tar, zip or use any other tool on your files. Turnin automatically compresses all your files into a single archive for us to mark.
    The simplest way to turnin all your files is to place all files in one directory then just use the *.* wildcard to turn in all files within that one directory.
    You must turnin all files that are not part of Java 1.3. In particular, you are allowed (actually encouraged) to use EasyIn or SavitchIn but should include the one you use in the files you submit. It is STRONGLY suggested that you copy all the files into another directory, test it works there by compiling and executing then turnin files from that directory. A common problem is students adding comments at the last minute then not testing if it still compiles. The assignment will be marked as submitted no asking later for leniency because you added comments at the last minute and failed to check if it still worked.
    If the tutors are unable to compile your submission, they will mark the source code but you will lose all the execution marks. Sorry, but it is your responsibility to test then hand in all files.
    Comments
    For CS807 students, this program should be fairly easy if it was to be programmed in C (you would use several struct). The real art here is to change over to programming objects. Data is contained in an object and is not global. This idea is essential to using Java effectively and is termed encapsulation. Instead of using function(data), you use objectName.method( ). Effectively you switch the data and functions around, the data has a method (function) attached to it, not the other way around as in C (where you have a function and send data to it).
    While there will be some marks for execution, the majority of the marks will be given for how well you write your code (including comments and documentation) and for how well you used O-O principles. Programs written in a C style with most of the code in one class or using static will receive ZERO marks regardless of how well they work.
    You are responsible for checking your turnin by reading the messages turnin responds with. Failure to read these messages will not be an acceptable excuse for submitting an incorrect assignment. About 2% of assignments sent to turnin are unreadable (usually empty) and obtain 0.
    Late submissions
    Late submissions will only be accepted with valid reasons for being late. All requests for assignment extensions must be made via email to the lecturer. Replies for acceptance or refusal will made by email. Instant replies are unrealistic (there is usually a flood of queries into my mail box around assignment due dates) and the best advice is to ask at least 4 days in advance so that you will have a reasonable chance of getting a timely reply and allow yourself enough time to submit something on time if the extension is not granted.
    ALL late submissions will be marked LAST and will NOT be sent to tutors for marking until all other assignments have been marked. As an example, if you submit late and your assignment is not yet marked by the time assignment 2 is due then it will be pushed to the end of the marking pile as the assignments that were submitted on time for assignment 2 will take priority.
    If you make a second submission after the submission date, only the first submission will be marked. We will not mark assignments twice! You can update your submission BEFORE the submission date if you need to - this will just overwrite the first submission. The latest time for a late submission is 5pm on the Wednesday after the due date. This is because, either a solution will be handed out at that lecture or details of the assignment will be discussed at the lecture. I cannot accept any assignment submissions after that time for any reason at all including medical or other valid reasons. For those who are given permission to be later than the maximum submission time a different assignment will be handed out. Remember, if you decide to submit late you are VERY UNLIKELY to receive feedback on your assignments during semester.
    Assignments will be removed from turnin and archived elsewhere then forwarded to tutors for marking on the morning after the assignment is due. A different tutor will mark each of your assignments do not expect the tutor you see at the tutorials to be your marker.
    Marks will be returned via email to your computer science yallara account ideally within 2 weeks. I will send marks out when I receive them so do not send email asking where your marks are just because a friend has theirs. If you want your email forwarded to an external account, then place a valid .forward file into your yallara account. The Help Desk on level 10 can assist you in setting this up if you do not know how to do it.

    I have seen other people who have blatantly asked for
    other people to do their homework for them, but you
    are the first person I've seen to actually cut and
    paste the entire assignment as it was handed to you.
    Amazing.
    Well, unlike some of the people you're talking about, it seems like zyangfan did at least take a stab at it himself, and does have a question that is somewhat more sepcific that "please do this homework for me."
    Zyangfan,
    marendoj is right, though. Posting the entire assignment is kind of tacky. If you want to post some of it to show us what you're trying to do, please trim it down to the essential points. We don't need to see all the instructor's policies and such.
    Anyway, let me see if I understand what you're asking. You said that you know how to write the code, but only by putting it all in one class, is that right? What part about using separate classes do you not understand? Do you not know how to make code in one class aware that the other class exists? Do you not know how code in class A can call a method in class B?
    Please be a bit more specifice about what you don't understand. And at least try using multiple classes, then when you can't figure out why something doesn't work, explain what you did, and what you think should have happened, and what did happen instead.
    To get you started on the basics (and this should have been covered in your course), you write the code for two classes just like for one class. That is, for class A, you create a file A.java and compile it to A.class. For class B, you create a file B.java and compile it to B.class. Given how rudimentary you question is, we'll skip packages for now. Just put all your class files in the same directory, and don't declare packages in the .java files.
    To call a method in class B from code that's in class A, you'll need an object of class B. You instantiate a B, and then call its methods.
    public class B {
      int count;
      public B() { // constructor
      public void increment() {
        count++;
    public class A {
      public static void main(String args[]) {
        B b = new B();
        b.increment();
    }Is this what you were asking?
