Saving data in same table simultaneously

Hi All
I have a question and here it goes. Suppose I have two users who are updating the same table through forms and Saving or commiting at the same time, exactly same time. What will happen in this kind of situation. Both of them will get error or one will get and the other will be able to commit or both will commit. Though i am quite sure that both cant commit at the same time. So my question to all is what will happen in this kind of a situation and what can i do to avoid this kind of situation. I have heard something about On-Lock trigger. Does this comes into picture during this situation.
Any kind of suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Francois
<<<You can delay this locking process to the commit time.>>>
1. I am sorry but i couldnt figure out what you mean by this.
2. Also if suppose i overload the ON-LOCK trigger, i will writing a code to throw an error msg to both the users and ask them to try later.
3. By the way, is there a way by which i can just randomly select one of the user to have commit first and then process commit for the second one.
Please advise. Thanks for the help.

  • Creating View based on Current and previous data from same table

    I am trying to create a view based on a table called “my_companies”. The table has following columns: “company_id”, “start_date”, “product_type_code”, “partner_id”
    The main purpose of this view is to obtain previous company_id’s associated with a particular “partner_id“and “product_type_code”. So basically, I’m looking to create an extra column, say “prev_company_id” in the view along with all the other columns. The “previous” data can be obtained depending on the “start_date”. I’m not able to write a query successfully to do this.
    Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Whenver you have a question, it helps to post:
    (1) The version of Oracle (and any other relevant software) you're using
    (2) A little sample data (just enough to show what the problem is) from all the relevant tables
    (3) The results you want from that data
    (4) Your best attempt so far
    Executable SQL statements (like "CREATE TABLE AS ..." or "INSERT ..." statements) are best for (2).
    Formatted tabular output is okay for (3). Type before and after the tabular text, to preserve spacing.  The sample results should include any special cases that you foresee, such as one company having many previous companies, or vice-versa.
    It sounds like might need a +self-join+, where you have two copies of the same table, as if the current companies were in one table and the previous companies were in another, even though they are all actually in the same table.

  • Insert data in same table based on some condition

    Hi. I am new to this forum.
    I have to write a stored procedure to Insert Data into a table say MYTABLE ,having structure as:
    Col1 Col2 Col3 ................ TotalInstallments CurrentInstallment PaidAmount MonthYear
    I have to insert all the data as it is in the same table(MYTABLE) except changing some fields on basis of some conditions:
    1. if PaidAmount>0 && CurrentInstallment<TotalInstallment then
    CurrentInstallment=CurrentInstallment+1
    2. In the MonthYear field I am having data in formate(month/year)ex. 01/2012, 11/2012 ....
    So I have to insert data by incrementing month and year. for example:
    if currentdata is 11/2012 then next data will be 12/2012
    But next will be 01/2013
    I have to select all the records which belongs to previous month(through MonthYear field ) and put checking & changes on each record of the selected data and then insert them into same table(MYTABLE).
    How to achive that?
    Thanks.

    Every thing is working fine but some strange result as:
    when i run my Procedure TRANSFERDATATONEXTMONTH
    1. by Passing Value as : CUSTOMERID_var ='ABX101' and MONTHYEAR_var='12/2012' it insurts 5 rows
    which is correct , since I have 5 records where CUSTOMERID='ABX101' and MONTHYEAR='12/2012' and
    new 5 rows has CUSTOMERID='ABX101' and MONTHYEAR='01/2013' (all other values are as expected)
    2. now when i again run by passing values: CUSTOMERID='ABX101' and MONTHYEAR='01/2013' it inserts 10 records(just double )
    and new records has value CUSTOMERID='ABX101' and MONTHYEAR='02/2013' (while on the basis of condition CUSTOMERID='ABX101' and MONTHYEAR='01/2013' i have in my table only 5 records)
    and all records are duplicate. Some times it inserts three times , while on condition basis it should no. What is happening?Probably, meanwhile you were trying to Insert the First time and the second time, someone did run the procedure that Inserted 5 More records for 01/2013. And, hence your Second run inserted 10 records instead of 5.
    >
    Why it is inserting double of records while i have only 5 records on given condition? Am I missing some thing?Yes, you are. You are missing your Tables, Your Dummy/Sample Data, Working Procedure/Function that can be replicated.
    Without this, we cannot simply believe on assertions that Oracle is behaving incorrectly.
    In addition to this, the GetMonthYear function, should be scrapped. It is un-necessary, when the same logic can be achieved using Oracle ADD_MONTHS function (See my previous post). And you are storing the MonthYear in a Varchar field, which ideally should be a Date field. This eradicates the un-wanted need to cast from VARCHAR - DATE - VARCHAR.

  • Reg: Getting the latest or last saved data from the table

    Hi,
    I'm having a table, which is getting updated whenever something is saved.
    Now i want to get the latest or last saved details to be displayed or the details of the row with greatest Id.( i.e, the Id. will be greatest for the last saved)
    please help me out with code to do this...
    Thanks & Regards,
    Suresh

    Hi Suresh,
    This could be done either through the webdynpro or the back end function module itself.
    If another field of type date/time is present in the table, u can save the current date and time along with the data in the table, and sort it in descending order of time. so that whenever u refresh the page the latest record is always in the first row,
    if u want to do it through webdynpro, u can also sort the table based on the date so that u get the latest record that was saved.
    Another solution is that u can maintain a serial number sort of thing the table which helps u identify the latest record
    Hope this helps u.

  • SQL Loader to append data in same table but using differnet WHEN clauses

    In my data file i have a header record and a detail record identified by Record_type = 1 and 2 respectively.
    The Database table has all the columns to capture detail records but i want to capture jus one column of header record now also in my existing table. So i have added that column (DATA_DATE)in my table but how to capture that value ?
    im writing my control file using two WHEN clauses, something like -
    load data
    into table t_bdn
    append
    when RECORD_TYPE = '2'
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY "|" TRAILING NULLCOLS
    SEQUENCE_NO
    , RECORD_TYPE
    , DISTRIBUTOR_CODE
    , SUPPLIER_CODE
    , SUPPLIER_DISTRIBUTOR_CODE
    , DISTRIBUTOR_SKU
    , SUPPLIER_SKU
    when RECORD_TYPE = '1'
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY "|" TRAILING NULLCOLS
    SEQUENCE_NO FILLER
    , RECORD_TYPE FILLER
    , CREATE_DATE FILLER
    , DATA_DATE "NVL(to_date(:DATA_DATE, 'YYYY/MM/DD'),to_date('9999/12/31', 'YYYY/MM/DD'))"
    im getting error " expecting INTO and foung WHEN RECORD_TYPE = '1' "
    if i give iNTO second time it will append a new row altogether in my table but i want the same row to be updated with this DATA_DATE value coming from RECORD_TYPE =1 and header record has 4 delimited data text fields only and i am interested in fetching just the 4th column..
    KIndly suggest what to do ?

    Ravneek, I could be wrong but sqlldr is a 'load' program, that is, it inserts data. I am unaware of any ability to update existing rows as you seem to want. What you appear to want to do is more the job of a merge statement.
    I would look at writing a pro* language, a .net, or a java program to perform inserts where some or all of the newly inserted rows are also to be updated.
    From the manual: (Oracle® Database Utilities 10g Release 2 (10.2) Part Number B14215-01)
    Updating Existing Rows
    The REPLACE method is a table replacement, not a replacement of individual rows. SQL*Loader does not update existing records, even if they have null columns. To update existing rows, use the following procedure:
    1. Load your data into a work table.
    2. Use the SQL language UPDATE statement with correlated subqueries.
    3. Drop the work table.

  • Saving data into two tables "in one transaction"

    Hello everybody!
    My scenario is the following: SAP PI receives message containing some data (header and MULTIPLE details data in one message) and has to transfere this data to a database.
    In the database there are two tables for storing the data contained in the message: one for HEADER data and one for DETAILS data. I need to save all the data (header and MULTIPLE details data) into these two tables "in one transaction" and roll back saving of HEADER data and DETAILS data if saving of some DETAILS data has failed.
    I am going to use receiver JDBC adapter for this purpose.
    My questions are:
    1. How can I save all the data "in one transaction"? Will it work if I transform the source message into the target message which looks something like this?
    <root>
      <StatementName1>
        <dbTableName action=u201CUPDATE_INSERTu201D>

        <col1>val1</col1>
        </key1>
        </dbTableName>
      </StatementName3>
    </root>
    2. How to roll back saving of HEADER data in the case of saving of DETAILS data has failed?
    3. What will be the response structure returned by database look like in the case of success?
    Thanks,

    I guess the response in my case will be something as following?
    <response>

  • Need help with saving data and keeping table history for one BP

    Hi all
    I need help with this one ,
    Scenario:
    When adding a new vendor on the system the vendor is suppose to have a tax clearance certificate and it has an expiry date, so after the certificate has expired a new one is submitted by the vendor.
    So i need to know how to have SBO fullfil this requirement ?
    Hope it's clear .
    Thanks

    Hi
    I don't have a problem with the query that I know I've got to write , the problem is saving the tax clearance certificate and along side it , its the expiry date.

  • Fetch data from same table

    Hi All,
    Oracle 10g
    The data in cust_link_tab is of 2 systems. Internal and External.
    I want to compare fields (date, ccy, type) of the below table on the basis of linking id.
    currently i am using a query like this:
    SELECT F.SOURCE,
    case
         when fac.type = f.type then
         'Y'
         else 'N'
    end fac_cusip
    FROM cust_link_tab FAC, cust_link_tab F
    WHERE
    FAC.LINKING_ID = F.LINKING_ID
    AND FAC.ROWID!=F.ROWID;
    But if there is more than one linking_id. this won't work correctly.
    SQL> DESC CUST_LINK_TAB;
    Name Null? Type
    FSRC_ID VARCHAR2(10)
    SOURCE VARCHAR2(10)
    DSRCL_ID VARCHAR2(10)
    CCY VARCHAR2(3)
    MATURITY_DATE DATE
    GLOBAL_CMT NUMBER
    LINKING_ID NUMBER
    TYPE VARCHAR2(10)
    SQL> select *from CUST_LINK_TAB;
    FSRC_ID SOURCE DSRCL_ID CCY MATURITY_ GLOBAL_CMT LINKING_ID TYPE
    111 INTERNAL 900 usd 1000 ER
    45 EXTERNAL 600 usd 1000 TR
    454 INTERNAL 700 usd 500 II
    SQL>
    Thanks.
    Edited by: user545846 on May 9, 2009 10:17 PM

    SQL> select *from CUST_LINK_TAB;
    FSRC_ID SOURCE DSRCL_ID CCY MATURITY_ GLOBAL_CMT LINKING_ID TYPE
    111 INTERNAL 900 USD 1000 ER
    45 EXTERNAL 600 USD 1000 TR
    454 INTERNAL 700 USD 500 II
    32 INTERNAL 300 EUR 25 2885 PO
    96 EXTERNAL 600 USD 434 2885 PO
    Basically we need to compare the fields ccy, global_cmt,type for internal and external
    source.
    Linking id is used to link the data. we are expecting the fsrc_id,source,dsrcl_id and result whether 'Y' or 'N' which we can do using a decode or case statement.
    source, fsrc_id and dsrcl_id are the primary keys (composite) for this table (cust_link_tab).
    Apart from this we have the map table which keeps the fsrc_id, dsrcl_id, dsrcl_id of the
    internal system and the corresponding external fsrc_id and dsrcl_id. The data is loaded using
    the linking_id.
    But this table does not maintain the details like ccy, maturity date, and type.
    Please give your suggestions. thanks

  • ABAP - Saving data to a table after pressing 'TAB' on a specific field?

    In ABAP programming for a custom SAP program, I was wondering if it is possible to trigger a SAVE action to occur when pressing the TAB key instead of the ENTER key.
    For example, I have 3 input fields -- Material, Serial Number, and Quantity. I enter a Material, press TAB to get to the next field, enter a Serial Number, press TAB to get to the Quantity field, then I enter a Quantity and I must press ENTER in order for the input Material, Serial Number and Quantity to be written to the custom table.
    What I need is to be able to press a "TAB" on the Quantity field instead of an "ENTER", and therefore override the normal TAB behavior only on that 'Quantity' field so that I get an "ENTER" behavior, and my record is saved. Is this possible in ABAP?
    The reason I need that TAB to behave like and ENTER on the Quantity field is because we have barcode scanners with a keypad. These barcode scanners have a design flaw in that  sending a specific command after keypad entry is extremely limited. For my company's specific requirements, the scanner will only allow the TAB command to be sent from the scanner after entering a Quantity. Since only a TAB can be sent, I need the TAB command to be able to write the record to the table, and return me to then next "Material" input field.

    Thanks all. I appreciate your replies. The reply from Prasoon Sahay gave me an idea. Ideally, I would like the TAB on the last Quantity field to be able to save the record and return back to the first Material input field. But instead, I will have to keep the TAB on the Quantity field, and then scan an extra code that sends a Control S, and that will save the record. It is not the most elegant solution, but it will work.

  • Seperate Java Apps accessing the same table

    I have 2 Java applications running independently that will be modifying the same table simultaneously. I am trying prevent the programs from "stepping on each others toes" for lack of a better term. I only want one program to be able to work on this table at a time.
    I thought I could somehow use the sql LOCK TABLE command but I wouldn't know how to check to see if a table is locked and prevent one program from proceeding
    ie:
    While (TABLE IS LOCKED)
    //wait
    doupdates();
    Is there some other mechanism I can use to accomplish this. As I said before, these programs are running independently, the only thing they share is the table they are updating.

    Once you execute LOCK TABLE then the table is locked untill you unlock it.
    If there was another program which has the lock on the table by the time you invoke LOCK TABLE then the LOCK TABLE call will block until the other program release the lock.
    There is no need to check.

  • How to write two triggers on same table how it works?

    Hello sir..
    I have to write two triggers on same table for auditing different columns of different pages (may be different modules).
    I will have an audit table in which i will insert data such as (user_id,module_id,column_name,old_col_val,new_col_ val,timestamp)
    Now different users from different pages will update the data on same table may be same columns!
    If we write directly, we will not be able to know which column is updated from different pages.
    My question is how can we control the triggers to raise based on the pages

    A trigger is executed whenever the table is inserted / updated / deleted (depend on trigger definition). It won't know what 'page' caused the operation. You can prepare a trigger for one page.
    In order to fulfill your need, you need some way to tell the trigger where you are. There are many ways to accomplish this. Some possible methods are (please check the documents for detail)
    DBMS_SESSION.SET_IDENTIFIER
    DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO.SET_MODULEFor example, you can call DBMS_SESSION.SET_IDENTIFIER to set an ID from your page, and then call sys_context to read the ID back:
    In Page:
    exec dbms_session.set_identifier('Page1');
    ...In Trigger
    pageid  := sys_context('USERENV', 'CLIENT_IDENTIFIER') ;
    ...Note that if you use a connection pool, you may need to properly reset the session information before return, in order to avoid messing up the session information when the connection is used next time.

  • Two triggers on same table

    Hi Friend.
    I have to write two triggers on same table for auditing different columns of different users(may be different modules).
    I will have an audit table in which i will insert data such as (user_id,module_id,column_name,old_col_val,new_col_val,timestamp)
    Now different users from different modules will update the data on same table may be same columns from different front end forms!
    If we write directly, we will not be able to know which column is updated by which user.
    My question is in this case how can we control the triggers to raise differently?

    You can use WHEN clause to fire a trigger only when some condition is true - you can check an user also,
    look at simple example:

    SQL> create user us1 identified by us1;
    User created.
    SQL> create user us2 identified by us2;
    User created.
    SQL> grant connect, resource to us1, us2;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> grant create public synonym to us1, us2;
    Grant succeeded.and suposse we have a table with three columns + audit table:
    SQL> connect us1
    Enter password:
    Connected.
    SQL> create table tab123(
      2  col1 number,
      3  col2 number,
      4  col3 number);
    Table created.
    SQL> create table audit_tab123(
      2  username varchar2(100),
      3  col1 number,
      4  col2 number,
      5  col3 number );
    Table created.
    SQL>  grant select, update, insert on tab123 to us2;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL>  grant select, update, insert on audit_tab123 to us2;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> create public synonym tab123 for tab123;
    Synonym created.
    SQL> insert into tab123 values( 1, 1, 1 );
    1 row created.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.We want a trigger that is fired only by user US1 and only after update of COL1 and COL2
    (COL3 is ignored):
    SQL> connect us1/us1
    Connected.
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Trig_123_US1
      2  AFTER UPDATE OF col1, col2 ON tab123
      3  FOR EACH ROW
      4  WHEN ( user = 'US1' )
      5  BEGIN
      6    INSERT INTO audit_tab123( username, col1, col2 )
      7    VALUES( user, :new.col1, :new.col2 );
      8 END;
    SQL> /
    Trigger created.And we want a second trigger that is fired only by user US2 and only after update of COL2 and COL3
    (COL1 is ignored):
    SQL> connect us1/us1
    Connected.
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER Trig_123_US2
      2  AFTER UPDATE OF col2, col3 ON tab123
      3  FOR EACH ROW
      4  WHEN ( user = 'US2' )
      5  BEGIN
      6    INSERT INTO audit_tab123( username, col2, col3 )
      7    VALUES( user, :new.col2, :new.col3 );
      8  END;
      9  /
    Trigger created.and now let test our triggers:
    SQL> connect us1/us1
    Connected.
    SQL> update tab123 set col1 = 22;
    1 row updated.
    SQL> update tab123 set col2 = 22;
    1 row updated.
    SQL> update tab123 set col3 = 22;
    1 row updated.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select * from audit_tab123;
    USERNAME         COL1       COL2       COL3
    US1                22          1
    US1                22         22
    SQL> connect us2/us2
    Connected.
    SQL> update tab123 set col1 = 333;
    1 row updated.
    SQL> update tab123 set col2 = 333;
    1 row updated.
    SQL> update tab123 set col3 = 333;
    1 row updated.
    SQL> commit
      2  ;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> select * from us1.audit_tab123;
    USERNAME         COL1       COL2       COL3
    US1                22          1
    US1                22         22
    US2                          333         22
    US2                          333        333As you see, each trigger is fired only once, first triger only for user US1 and columns COL1 and COL2,
    and second trigger only for user US2 and only after update of COL2 and COL3.
    I hope this will help.

  • How to load XML data to remote table?

    I have a table in our DEV instance with XMLTYPE data in it:
    TB_PAGE_DATA
    ( PAGEID INTEGER,
    PAGENAME VARCHAR2(250) NOT NULL,
    PAGECONTENT SYS.XMLTYPE,
    CREATEDATE DATE NOT NULL,
    UPDATEDATE DATE
    )The same table exists in PROD, but it is currently empty. I want to load it with all the records from DEV, but apparently I can't do this via DB Link since I get an error:
    INSERT INTO tb_page_data@prod_link
    (select *
    from tb_page_data)
    ORA-22804: remote operations not permitted on object tables or user-defined type columns

    Performing DML utilizing a remote table with XMLTYPE seems to be the issue, so I"m not sure if this would work also. In any case, the PROD instance does not have a link going back to the DEV instance. I cannot create this link.
