Saving docs in Numbers

I complete a spreadsheet in Numbers and save it. Then I try to attach it to an email in Gmail.
I locate the file in Finder and note that it is in a grey and not black colored font.
As it is grey I cant do anything with it.
What am i doing wrong?
I'm only new to Numbers and Mac.

Pages & Numbers don't do the "zipping," Mail does. When I attached a Pages or Numbers file in Tiger Mail I would see the attachment as a .zip. I just sent myself a small Numbers document to my .Mac account from another account (different provider). The attachment did not appear as .zip in either the sent or received message. But, I checked the e-mail from the web-based .Mac mail & the attachment does show as a .zip. So, it would appear that Leopard Mail zips & un-zips transparently. Nice.
If you're using any e-mail client other than Apple's Mail, you'll need to zip the document yourself.

It appears if you write the document with newer version Pages and try to open it older version Pages.

How to avoid lo-gin prompt while check in the document and saving doc while opening the document?

I might be missing something to configure or verify but many times I have faced below situation :
When I click on document in document library either its just opens or first save to disc and open.
When I check in a document , its asking for credentials but sometimes doesn't
Can anyone please describe the reason behind above behaviors ? how to avoid saving doc while opening and lo-gin prompt while check in the document?

Click in any header or footer field; an option to enter page number will pop up. Or click setup gear at top right, then click "Section," and click the page number options you want (including option to skip the first page).

I have friends all over Europe, does it matter what number they use to call me? Nope! All incoming calls are free for me.
The only time you ever have to worry about which number is if you get charged for incoming domestic/international calls.
You can tag their number (work/home/iphone) and that may show on the CallerID accordingly.
It should show, John Doe
underneath, work/home/mobile

Photosmart Premium C310a scanner is saving docs as .xps instead of .pdf

Docs scanned are saved as .xps will not print. Setting is to scan document to pdf. this just started after reinstall. Receipts and other docs saved as JPEG file print perfectly. tried newly scanned and previously scanned docs - none will print.

Thank you for the reply, and apologies for the lateness of mine, I was just being thorough
I will suggest that you start by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. I would suggest running it for both Fix Printing and Fix Scanning and see what it has to offer.
If it is not able to resolve the issue, I would suggest clearing out your Temp folder (I realize it says it's for Windows 7, but the steps are the same for Vista) and then performing a Level 3 Uninstall to remove all of the HP software, and then downloading the latest version of your Photosmart C310a's software from HP's site and installing from that. If you use Internet Explorer to download the software make sure when it asks if you'd like to Run or Save that you choose Save.
Once this is done, you should have the right options again

Saving files in Numbers

Just upgraded to Lion, but the Save & Save As options are not in Numbers now. How do I Save or Save as now?

Here's a simple example of why this is a "biggy".
I open and edit a file named database.xml file with TextEdit. Previously, all I had to do was hit Cmd-S or File>Save and I was done. Now, my save options are:
Close
Save a Version…
Duplicate
Export as PDF…
Revert to Saved
Save a Version creates a new file in the original file location named database.txt -- not what I need to do.
Duplicate creates a new copy and now gives me the new option of "Save…" which still wants to save a text file and will force me to go through a warning dialogue to save over the original document - which I just wanted to save in the first place.
To add insult to injury, if I opened the file by browsing to it, the finder is pointed to the right location. But if I didn't, I have to hunt through my folders and find the location where I want to save the file, change the extension from .txt to .xml, and go through the warning dialogue stating that I'm about to save over a file of the same name.
Again, compare this to the previous work flow:
1. Open the xml document
2. Edit it
3. Click save.
That's it. No changing the friggin' extension, no new versions or duplication or hunting through folders. No warning dialogues.
This really is a terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible (I really can't say it enough), TERRIBLE implementation. SOOOO ANNOYING! Please give us back Save and Save As...
We went from elegant to byzantine. This is the kind of crap we'd expect from Microsoft, not Apple.
If you want Save and Save As... back, let Apple know by clicking "Numbers" in the menu and then "Provide Numbers Feedback..."

Re-saving docs in iCloud

I have Pages and Numbers documents saved on my Mac. How do I now save them in iCloud? When I choose Save As, I get no iCloud option.
Kind of a basic question, I know.

There shouldn't be a Save As... option in the version of Pages that is compatible with icloud. There should be a "Move To..." option available. Pages is version 4.3.

Saved docs not showing up in Docs List?

After applying security policies, the saved files are not showing up in the Documents List. Sometimes it will save a filename.tmp file, but it just doesn't want to list and record the saved secure file name. Is there anyway to force this? I have had 1 or 2 docs that did make it, but have no idea why some get on the list and others don't, and why some are just the .tmp files. I've tried saving the original files under another name and resetting the policies, but to no affect. Thanks.

George, your solution worked! after exporting/importing the data, I was able to view the pdf in the newer versions. I have a little work to do for all the pdfs to convert over but its way better than retyping it all.

How can I increase the number of saved previously called numbers?

When I press the call key about 10 in/out called numbers show up. My old phone had like 50 previously called or received numbers. How can I increase the number of saved calls?

Unfortunately there is no such setting to increase number of saved calls on the device.

Copying cells from Google Docs to Numbers doesn't work

I've tried multiple times now to copy data from a Google Docs into a Numbers spreadsheet, to no avail. I'm trying to copy two columns of data, about 150 rows long, and instead of it pasting into two columns, it pastes into a single column in Numbers.
Why is this? Is there a setting that affects how data is pasted into Numbers that I can change?

It seems that Google and Apple are still on the "outs". I found that if you Paste the Google Docs cell range to LibreOffice, and then Copy and Paste to Numbers, all is well.
Don't try copying entire columns in Google Docs or LibreOffice, instead specify the range explicitly.

Pages5:Saving Docs as Word docs?

Pages '09 didn't force you to save your doc in Pages format. You could choose to save it as a Word, or whatever. Now, in the new Pages, it seems you are forced to save your doc in Pages format; you can only obtain a Word copy by exporting the doc after you've saved it, so you end up with two copies - one in Pages, one in .docx. Most of my clients can't open a Pages doc, so now I have two copies of everything unless I want to manually trash the Pages originals. Is there a way to just save any doc you're working on in another format besides Pages, without exporting?

Actually in Pages '09 it was Save a copy as Word:
You created both a .pages document and exported a .doc copy.
Which is a good thing because not keeping a .pages version was bound to lead to trouble because the export is not perfect.
Real if you want to work in .doc, use Word or a Word clone. Even TextEdit will open and save in Word .doc if you don't have complex formatting.
Pages is not a Word substitute if you have to constantly transfer files back and forth.

I'm using MS office on my MacBook Pro and when I go to save a doc or spreadsheet, I only get a limited list of places to save to. I don't get a dropdown to choose folders and sub-folders. I've been saving to desktop and then moving to the appropriate location. Am I just missing something?

Are you a 'recent switcher' for the Windows-world ?
If so, try forgetting all/most of the procedures you learned/used with Windows and try to be or use the Mac unbiased.
