Saving files such as doc, pdf to a table

dear all; I have googled this and tried reading the documentation but might need a bit of help. I have the following code below
create table file_test (id number, name varchar2(4000), clob_column clob, primary key(id));now I would like to test it out by writing a simple procedure which will give me an opportunity to pass in a file from anyway in my directory with a particular name a save it to the table and then my final step will be to retreive it. how do I do this? i have looked at the following example below on this thread
Saving a PDF or DOC file into Oracle 9i using Developer Forms 10g
but it wasnt very helpful as such.

Ok I am getting several errors, this is what i have so far
declare
v_src_loc bfile := bfliename('IMAGES', 'C:/thankyou.doc');
v_amount integer;
v_b clob;
begin
dbms_lob.open(v_src_loc, DBMS_LOB.LOB_READONLY);
v_amount := DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(v_src_loc);
insert into file_test values (1, EMPTY_CLOB()) returning clob_column into v
DBMS_LOB.LOADFROMFILE(v_b, v_src_loc, v_amount);
DBMS_LOB.CLOSE(v_src_loc);
END;
/and I am getting the following errors

  • Why are my received file attachments (Office files such as .doc, .docx, .xlsx but also pdf files) corrupted - so that I cannot open them?

    For the last month, 90% of the file attachments that I receive by email will not open on my MacBook Pro (2009, running Mac OS 10.7.5). I get assorted messages, but generally saying that the file is corrupt, or the filename contains unacceptable characters. The problem has been generally with Word files (.doc and .docx)], Excel files (.xls and .xlsx) and pdf files.
    The bit that I don't understand is that I can open the same email attachments (without any problem) when downloaded on my iMac. And I have recently found that colleagues who received the same emails can open them, and can transfer the files to me (usually by USB stick) … and then I can open them. But I still cannot open the same files received as email attachments on my MacBook Pro.
    Which makes me think that the files (email attachments) are somehow being corrupted as they are downloaded?
    I installed the Mac OS X Update Combined 10.7.5 in July, so perhaps this was when the problem started? And, although it may be unrelated, around the same time as this problem started, I transferred some files from a colleague's computer on a USB stick and found that the USB stick had picked up a virus/malware, which meant that the stick was dead, and I had to reformat the stick. I scanned my computer (using ClamXav, with the latest updates) and quarantined a file found on the USB stick and on my computer.
    Any thoughts on why this might happen, and what I can do to sort it out (as it is making work very difficult - I travel a lot, and rely on being able to open and read files sent from countries all over the world, often by people using old versions of Office software)? I have never had problems in the past, and can't understand why my other computer, and my colleagues, can all open these files, but my laptop will not! Many thanks for any help!

    I opened one of the PDF files in notepad and these are the first couple lines:

  • Is there a way to insert a file (such as a PDF or Word doc) into a presentation?

    I have a few pdf "highlight sheets" that I'd like learners to be able to access and print out if they'd like, while watching the presentation.
    Is there a way to insert a file into the course? (For instance, if they click a certain button, the file would be downloaded to their computer?)
    Thanks,
    Inna

    While Michael's answer is technically correct, I never advise to use the browse button to locate the file. Doing so puts the link in peril as it typically creates an absolute path leading to the document you wish to link to. So use the button if you must, but before committing the link, ensure you remove any pathing information and leave behind only the document file name.
    Cheers... Rick

  • When saving files from the internet, why doesn't Firefox 'know' to put .jpg files in "Photos" and pdf files in "Documents"?

    When saving files from the internet, why doesn't Firefox 'know' to put .jpg files in "Photos" and pdf files in "Documents"? IE always saved photos in the "Photos" file and documents in the "Documents" file. Firefox makes me choose every time. Very annoying.

    How about if Firefox is programmed like IE in this ONE thing...
    When saving files from internet sources, if the file ends in a typical photo extension such as .jpg, .bmp, .tif etc. it defaults to save it in your PHOTOS folder.
    When saving anything like a .doc, .pdf etc. it defaults to save it to your DOCUMENTS.
    You could still change it to 'desktop' if that if really where you want all your photos and documents... or some other folder that you decide, but DEFAULTS to the LOGICAL folder.
    I have carpal tunnel SO bad that even typing this suggestion is painful and having to make the extra click along with moving the mouse EVERY time I want to save something is painful.
    ALSO, I shouldn't need a bunch of ADDONS to accomplish this. I tried downloading one and it did nothing. The problem still exists.

  • Fm or method for converting  doc,pdf or text  files to binary format

    Hello,
    Are you aware of any function module or method which takes input as a file of type doc, pdf or text files and convert it to binary format? Kindly let me know.
    This is what i tried and was unsuccessful.
    i tried using gui_upload method and pass " asc" as file type while importing file of type .doc but it returns me string filled with strange characters.
    I did try converting this string to xstring using  cl_proxy_service=>cstring2xstring but i realized my 1st step of uploading file itself was wrong.
    Please let me know what can be done if you are aware of how to convert file of various types to binary.
    thanks
    Pooja

    hi All,
    thanks alot for the information and help provided by all of you.
    I did figure out a way where the word document or pdf  can be pretty much loaded with gui_upload. the file type used in the method would be "BIN" the following thing has to be done. declare data type as given below and file would be the complete path along with document name which has to be uploaded
    DATA: BEGIN OF res_line,
                raw(255) TYPE x,
             END   OF res_line.
      DATA: res_tab LIKE res_line OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
    data :  wf_var_stringx TYPE xstring .
      CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_UPLOAD'
          EXPORTING
            filename                =  file
            filetype                = 'BIN'
            read_by_line            = 'X'
         has_field_separator     = ' '
         header_length           = 0
         header_line           = 'X'
          IMPORTING
            filelength              = l_filelength
          TABLES
            data_tab                = res_tab
          EXCEPTIONS
           OTHERS                  = 1.
    LOOP AT res_tab .
        CONCATENATE wf_var_stringx res_tab-raw INTO wf_var_stringx IN BYTE MODE.
      ENDLOOP.
    this will upload the file and will file the string x with its content.
    hope this helps to some of you.
    Thanks
    Pooja

    TonyE is correct the plugin version comes with Adobe's Reader X.
    The failure in communication is two parted:
    1. Reader X is not Acrobat (Mozilla Plugin Checker)
    2. Acrobat is not mentioned in the Reader X download Page (Adobe)
    therefore confused clients.
    For readers '''CAUTION''' check the minimum requirements for Reader X.
    Here: [http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/tech-specs.html Adobe's Reader X requirements link]
    Do not waste the time to download (80+MB and Site is Slow) if your machine does not have the resources to execute it. ie. '''aging''' Hardware
    Unfortunately the Adobe DLM only checks the requirements after it has
    downloaded BEFORE the install occurs.
    This is '''very expensive''' for both the sender and receiver
    It might be why they called it READER X and READER 9 will not sense an update...

  • Will I be able to transfer files of DOC , PDF, excel and PPT from PC to I-pad Air?

    I have recently purchased I-pad Air. I want to transfer DOC, PDF, EXCEL and PPT files for PC to I-Pad and vice-versa. Will I-tune 10 do the job abd please let me know the steps tp be followed.

    I think that you need iTunes 11.
    You can copy word, excel, powerpoint and/or PDF documents to the iPad, but first you need one or more apps on the iPad that support those document types - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app.
    The options include Apple's Pages app for Word documents, Numbers for Excel spreadsheets and Keynote for Powerpoint. And from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice. Microsoft have also released apps, but unless you subscribe to Office 365 you will only get read-only e.g MS Word For iPad.
    For PDFs there are free apps such as Apple's iBooks app and also Adobe Reader - and paid-for apps such as GoodReader (which also supports read-only of word and excel documents).
    As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via your wifi network, email, dropbox etc. For Apple's Pages, Numbers and Keynote : copying documents via iTunes.

  • After updating os to 10.9.1can't open pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Any help would be appreciated.

    After updating os to OSX 10.9.1 I can't open any new pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Also can't attach a pdf to an email to send out.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
    If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
    There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
    If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
    and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
    From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
    The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
    Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • I get the following error when trying to open a pdf file... '*pdf.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read"

    I get the following error when trying to open a pdf file... '*pdf.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read". I am able to open pdf files in IE and other programs.

    I am encountering the same problem -- though with .qfx files from my bank. This worked fine in Firefox 31 ESR, but since upgrading to Firefox 33.0, I get the "<name>.qfx.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read" when I attempt to download. (I should add that downloading PDF statements from the same site works fine, and that the qfx downloads work fine in IE and Chrome.)
    I tried safe mode, it is still broken. Tried v34 beta, no luck. I reverted to version 31, it works again.
    I guess I will stick with the older version until a solution is found...or just use an alternate browser to download my financial data.

    Make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader installed for your OS.

  • PDF Printer not saving files; 9.5.5 (pro) with Windows 7, 64 bit

    I imagine that the root of this issue has to do with compatibility between the OS 64 and and 32 bit application of Acrobat 9.5.5. The installation has been uninstalled, reinstalled, and fully repaired. Initially, while printing from powerpoint (but also any other source, including chrome, firefox, or from acrobat's own interface), the PDF printer would output a generic error about the "current printer setup". After reveiwing the event log, a sidebyside 40 seemed to be causing the problem. I followed the solution posted at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/a4c36078-6419-4424-8a43-ff3832786 b59/many-sidebyside-78-errors-with-acrobat-9-designer, but with no luck. I then went and installed the PDF printer manually using the adobePDF.inf file. This removed the generic error, but now when converting using the PDF Printer, no file is saved and no error dialog appears. Nothing is showing in the event viewer either. Print-to-pdf works, but the user needs specific formatting that occurs while printing. Any ideas what may be occuring?
    Running 9.5.5 Adobe Pro on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system.

    Let's step back a bit. First, since you have apparently been successful at installing the printer let us see if it works. Open and application and go to the print menu and select Print-to-file for the Adobe PDF printer. Assuming that is successful, open the file that is created (usually a PRN extension, though it is a PS file) in Distiller. Do you get a PDF now, or errors about the creation?
    If the PDF is created, use ctrl-alt-del>task manager to see if Acrotray is running in the background. If not, go to the Acrobat (or Distiller) folder and start it. If you can not start it then Acrotray is the problem that you are having. It might be that it will work if installed in a 32-bit compatibility mode.

    How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
    Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
    here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
    Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
    Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
    [OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
    copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
      and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
      [JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
         cd [JacobStage]
         copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
         copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
      The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
      Open a DOS command prompt.
      Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
         set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
      Sign the files, and check the output for success:
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
      you may skip this step. Otherwise,
      Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
      connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
      for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
      Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
      out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
      errors.
      Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
         CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
         DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
         TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
         GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
         CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
         @[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
         -- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
         CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
      Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
         grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
      to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Start the OC4J instance
    7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
      Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
      It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
      Note 303682.1
      If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
      full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    8) Create a new FMB.
      Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
      There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
      Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
      Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
             NULL;
      to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
      Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
             show_webutil_information (TRUE);
      in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
      Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
    9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
      the "Application Server URL" is empty.
      Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
          http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
    10) Run your form.sarah
