Saving with Masks in tact
Sorry for this second post today but I guess the synapses are not firing great today.
- I am using CS4 on a PC
- I have a photo I shot in RAW and converted to a jpg through Image Processor in Bridge.
- I did some masking and saved it as a psd. I thought I had dome this before so I could save my work, maybe close out, and re-open the file later to work on it some more.
- Here is the dilemma – the mask isn’t saving. – If I initially save the file as a psd, do some work on it and go to “SAVE” that option is not available. I tried saving as other file formats but no cigar.
- So, there must be some little thing I need to do.
- The Mode is 8 bit RGB Color.

Thanks for your input. I did what you suggested and noticed changes on my desktop.
I reopened the jpg file, created a partial mask (for testing purposes) and save the file as a psd. Once again, in the SAVE AS dialog box the only “live” checkbox in the Save Options panel was “As A Copy.”
The jpg file I am working on is the only layer. I mention this because I don’t think this is a problem, but I could be wrong. Image is still 8 bit RGB mode.
Since I had batched process the RAW images to jpg I even went back in Bridge, opened the test photo in Camera RAW saved as a jpg (individually, not as a batch) but still the same result.
I’m not giving up but it is a bit frustrating…

Quicktime 7 crashes when saving with mask under 10.7

I'm trying to make a time lapse movie from a large folder of images, but have run into a nasty apparent bug with QuickTime 7 Pro that I did not have the last time I tried to do the same thing. I'm hoping someone knows of a workaround other than reverting to 10.6.
The workflow I'm attempting:
Open JPEGs as an image sequence.
Apply a 16:9 mask to the image sequence to crop it (I want to crop off-center, so I can't just set export size).
Save as Intermediate at >1080p resolution, to leave room for stabilization without quality degredation.
Run stabilization routine.
Export as 1080p.
The problem: Step 3 crashes 100% of the time, regardless of settings--so long as there is a mask added, it WILL crash.
I've tried various resolutions and mask sizes, all the way down to SD range. The mask applies just fine to the movie--it crops to the desired ratio--but as soon as you hit command-S, crash. Try to export, same thing as soon as you click the Save button. Export for web, same thing. 100% repeatable on both my 1st gen i7 iMac, and current-gen MBP 17".
It's particularly frustrating, because I know this worked just fine the last time I tried it a bit over a year ago under 10.6. Unfortunatley for me, I'm also under a deadline, and don't have a handy 10.6 install right now.
If anyone knows of a workaround for this (or any easy way to do the same thing without buying additional software), I'd hugely appreciate the help!

Sounds like you opened and saved it in CC, so now you need to go back to CC and either complete the project there, or export to IDML to take it back into CS6.

Apple loops not getting saved with current projects tempo

I can't seem to make an apple loop that would get saved with the current projects tempo....i recorded a single bar midi drum loop with 130 as project tempo but when i save it as an apple loop it gets saved with a tempo of 92bpm. strange thing is when i drag the same loop back on a instrument track it plays at the current tempo i.e., at 130bpm but if i drag it to an audio track it plays at 92bpm... really stuck here....any help would be greatly appreciated..thanx..

ok now i have got half of the problem solved....i had left the "follow tempo" region parameter ticked....so now when i unticked it the loop follows the project tempo....but i dont understand y does the loops get saved with a tempo of 92 whereas the project tempo is 130bpm....moreover when i audition these loops they don't really LOOP while playin back....

Image Adjustments Not Saved with DNG?

It appears that the adjustments (i.e. all of the work you do to "develop" your pictures) are not saved with the image file. They appear to be saved in the LR Library. So if anything happens to your library, your developing work is gone. I thought my adjustments were saved with the DNG, but this does not appear to be the case.
So, to be sure that my work is saved with the image, it appears that the processed files must be saved to a different format like JPG, TIFF, or PSD. With JPG quality is lost, and your ability to edit is severely compromised. With PSD and TIFF, you have another copy of extremely large files to deal with.
Is my understanding correct?
What are your suggestions to deal with this?

You confirm the critical point that your work is saved in the Library, and the Library must be closely supervised and backed up.
Beside my on-site backups, I set up a Stuffit schedule to back up a daily version of my library. My current library is 57.6MB and Stuffit compresses it to 8.7MB and automatically FTPs it to my web site for archiving.
I found that my 2GB file of previews is unnecessary, since my computer creates new previews almost as quickly as it reads the preview file, at least on a folder basis. So, I removed my preview files, and I have them saved for only one day in prefrences.
For my DNGs, beside my on-site backups, I create a DNG with the RAW (NEF) file embedded and back them up on my web site. Then I create DNGs with Adobe DNG converter, without embedded RAWs (LR embeds the RAWs)to use for my working files.
One of the reasons I decided to use DNGs is to avoid having separate XMP files. However, it sounds like you can export the XMP to the DNG without creating separate XMPs. I'll look in to that. I assume that exporting the XMPs to the DNGs will allow me to open them directly in CS2 (not by exporting from LR) or other programs with my adjustments intact. This would solve the problem of losing adjustments if the Library becomes dysfunctional.

That is becuase Pages 5.1 has numerous unnounced surprises for the unwary user. Among the surprises:
- it strips out images from headers and footers without warning
- it strips out bookmarks without wanring (yes, all those bookamrks you laboriously put into a document: poof! Gone.)
- it strips out alternating left/right margins, without warning.
There are many more suprises, as you'll see from glancing through these discussions. They fall into two main categories: things that are present in version 4.3 but that are missing in 5.1, things like
-mail merge
-meaningful Applescript/Services support
-non-contiguous text selection
-ability to set defaul zoom
-ability to see comments while editing
-ability to print comments
-ability to read RTF files
-ability to drag in hyperlinked ted from a browser
These about about 90 other features are gone.
Then there are the bugs. Hyperlinks do not reliably export to a PDF file any longer. There have been multiple problems with printing report. Some fonts place stray characters in the headers. Many reports of the program crashing, courrupting files, etc.
Fortunately for you, the previous version of Pages is still on your system. Export any documents you may have created or edited with Pages 5.1 (another great surprise: files created with version 5.1 cannot be read by any previous version of Pages: not just 4.3 but even 5.01!). Then trash 5.1 and use 4.3 until (unless?) it is stable and has a reasonably robust feature set.

I updated my whole cloud last week. Now I can't open a InDesign document saved just the day before. I get the error message:

To open an INDD file in the older version (CS4-CC), you need to save it as an IDML. For CS3 & older versions, save it as an INX.

Forms built with 9 not saving with Adobe reader X

I have many computers that are running Adobe reader X. when they are attempting to save a form that was built in Adobe 9.x, a msg dictates that they are unable to save file. How can I rectify this without downgrading my Adobe to 9 accross our system.

Downgrading to Adobe Reader 9 will not solve the problem because the issue is Reader was designed not to save completed forms.
You can use Acrobat 9 to add Extended Reader Rights to PDF forms and that enabled copy can be saved with form data by Acrobat X.
You will be restricted to 500 returned forms for each form. Above that limit you should contact Adobe about their LiveCycle server product.

i use Adobe Acrobat 9 pro extend to convert word, ppt, jepgs etc. into pdfs.
No if i
1) convert a ppt into a pdf: it asks --> "save as" --> converts --> opens the file
2) convert a jpeg into a pdf: it instantly --> opens the file as pdf --> i need to save it manual under "save as"
In both cases i want to
my goal: "convert into pdf" --> the file is instantly saved with the same name as pdf
WITHOUT asking me "save as" + "opening of the file".
Is the possible, and if yes, HOW ?
A fast answer is very very much appreciated, for i have to convert hundreds of files tonight in order to get it into 1 pdf

A] - righclick "convert-to-method": @Bill: thx again, your approach worked for ppt, doc-files etc.
2 problems:
1) exception: for jpegs/bmps it doesn't work (the file is still opened after conversion, strange).
2) the output-folder. it only accepts the standard "output-folder documents/*.pdf" (which is a step further but not my end-goal). If i choose another output-folder via "browse", this setting is NOT SAVED (even after clicking on "accept" + "ok").
my goal: the the file should be automatically saved in THE SAME folder the original file is in (seems that can't be achieved and the standard folder is the only thing where to convert in?).
Personal background for understanding: i have many folders with several ppts in it. Once i send it out to a customer, i always have to convert it into a pdf. thats why i want to save time (i know that i can convert it directly + send per mail, but i want an up-to-date copy of the pdf in the folder as well).

about batch processing and i think its really helpful if i want to convert ALL of the files in one folder.
1 question regarding this: are the subfolders also affected?
As i understood from the video, i choose 1 "watched folder" and a "destination folder" (can be the same). E.g i have 1 big folder "designs" with many subfolders. I create a batch converting ppts to pdf to "the same folder" Once i run my batch, it converts ppts in the chosen folder "designs" + all subfolders into the same folder, right?
If this is the case, i get too many pdfs, for i only need the latest ppt-version to be converted (copies of old ppts are also in the files) ;(.
Do you have an idea how can i solve this?
Now we are very near to the end-solution of my goal:
i need this option "to the same folder" in my general settings when i convert a file via right-click. ATM it only works with the standard-folder documents/*.pdf
In A], my files are now instantly saved with the same name in 1 specific folder. I would be completely happy, if this folder would be alwys the same as the one with the original file (and not 1 specific folder)
2nd problem with a]: it does not apply to picture files (bmp, jpegs..)

Grouping field value in the additional data tab is saved with capital lette

Whenever I change the value in the 'Grouping field' in the additional data tab, it gets saved with all letter caps.
For e.g, if i enter 'Manager'.. it gets saved as 'MANAGER'.
what could be the reason for this? Is there any configuration for this?

For Grouping and Search Field, this seems to be the standard system behaviour in cProjects and as per my knowledge there are no settings for the same.
Probably you can raise an OSS message regarding the same.

Labview 7.1 crashes windows XP when using VI's saved with the 'Save for Previous Version' option available in Labview 8

I am trying to work with a series of vi's developed in Labview 8 in Labview 7.1. The code was saved with the 'Save for Previous Version' option available in Labview 8. When trying to use the code in LV7.1 my entire Windows XP system locks up (cursor freezes). Are there any ideas what's going on and how to fix this?

I have seen some problems with the save for previous option in the past. Instead of saving the entire hierarchy, try seperating the code into several different pieces and saving each piece individually. Then, see if you can open the different pieces in 7.1.
If that doesn't help, you should post some more details, like when exactly does it lock up, does it have things like DLL calls, and maybe attach the code.

Filling out PDF forms & Saving with Preview

I've been having some frustrations with PDFs & Preview.
1.) Recently I had to fill out the IRS W9 form. With Preview I filled it out, added my signature and saved it. Again when I sent it to someone else, they could only see my signature and not any of the stuff I filled out. On my end, I could see everything.
2.) Also recently a colleague sent me a PDF form, which he filled out and saved with Adobe Pro. He needed my signature, which I added using the new signature feature of Preview. Saved it and sent it back to him. When he opened it on his end, all of the information he had filled out had disappeard, and only my signature remained. If I opened the same file on my end, I could see everything.
So, the new signature feature is great, but what good is it if I can't sign a PDF document and send it back to someone without it making everything else filled out on the document invisible to them? Yes, I can do Print ==> Save as PDF as a work-around, but that still doesn't answer the question.

Data saved with a colon, how to read it?

I have a report in ApEx with a multiple selection box. When I make more than one selection, it will save the data seperated with a colon. In my table it will look like this:
ID NAME SHR_ID_FROM
1 TEST 1:3
Where in the selection column the two values are stored. These numbers are linked to a name somewhere else in the database. When I have only one selection, there is no error and the name is given correctly. The report will then look like this:
ID NAME SHR_ID_FROM
1 TEST SELECTION1
When I have more than one selection and data is saved with colon, I cannot get the report to give me the data I need. It will give the ORA-01722: Invalid Number error.
I want the report to give me the following:
ID NAME SHR_ID_FROM
1 TEST SELECTION1(linked to number 1), SELECTION3(linked to selection 3)
So it has to give all selections. I am using the following SQL code to view the report

I think the error lies in this line:
where "SRR_RQH"."ID" = "SRR_SERVICES"."SHR_ID_FROM"
And I believe the solution should be something like I have to split each number, remove the colon and make sure it is send to the report with the use of a comma to seperate each name. But my sql knowledge is not very good, so I have no clue on how to solve this issue.

Your design to store multiple values in the same column will require a lot of work to maintain. To access the different values you will have to parse out each one and compare it to the join column using some compicated function calls. It should be easier to use multiple columns for multiple values and hard-code the table joins using outer joins if necessary - but this can work only if you have a very small list of multiple values.
A cleaner approach might be to create a relation with the multiple values and use table joins to put the data together, such as (untested)
ID1 NAME SHR_ID_FROM
1 TEST 1:3
ID1 SHR_ID_FROM
1 1
1 3
ID2 DESCRIPTION
1 TEST SELECTION1
3 SELECTION3Your query would join the first to the second by ID1in both tables and SHR_ID_FROM to ID2 in the second and third tables.
BTW, to avoid confusion you could give "ID" a more meaningful name like "entity_id" or "description_id"
