Scan from string and extract string between delimiter

Hello,
Basic questions.  Is it possible with the scan from string regular expression to extract the string that are within the specified delimiters.  Here is an example:
\\Name of folder 1\Name of folder 2\Name of folder 3\File Name
Can the scan from string output the following by specifying the right regular expression:
Name of folder 1
Name of folder 2
Name of folder 3
File Name
I have tried \\\\%s\\%s\\%s\\%s but the %s stops at the first white space.
Thanks,
Michel

RavensFan suggested the appropriate function for your requirement, however you can also use an alternative, which is 'Spreadsheet String To Array'.

  • What is difference between Null String and Empty String ?

    Hi
    Just i have little confusion that the difference bet'n NULL String and Empty String ..
    Please clear my doubte.
    Thankx

    For the same reason I think it's okay to say "null
    String" and "empty String "as long as you know they
    really mean "null String reference" and "empty String
    object" respectively. Crap. It's only okay to say that as long as *the one you're talking to" knows what it really means. Whether you know it or not is absolutely irrelevant. And there is hardly any ambiguity about the effects that a statement like "assign an object to a reference" brings. "Null String" differs in that way.

    Mylenium gave you the exact name of the function. You could just copy that and paste it into the Google search form. You would then end up with this:

    Just try it out.

  • Difference between null string and empty string??

    what is the major difference between null string and an empty string??
    I wrote the following simple program and I could see some different output.
    Other than that, any other differences that we should pay attention to???
    C:\>java TestCode
    Hello
    nullHello
    public class TestCode
         public static void main(String[] s)
         {     String s1 = "";
              String s2 = null;
              System.out.println(s1 + "Hello");
              System.out.println(s2 + "Hello");
    }

    The difference is that an empty String is just empty but a null String has no value (i.e. it is not instantiated) this has signifigance since all Strings are objects.

  • Null String and Empty String problem

    Hello everyone,
    since i am totally new in JSP, i am getting problem in handling strings.
    Suppose i have a variable users = ""; then
    I want to ask when to use:
    if (users.equals(""))
    and
    if(users == "")
    in my code, variable users has value "regional" for regional users.
    and i am checking this code as:
    if (users.equals{"regional")) {
    out.print ("I am inside code");
    at that time, the code is throwing error (run time error)
    and when i changed the code as:
    if (users == "regional") {
    out.print ("I am inside code");
    this time, the code is not generating error but the part message "I am inside code " is not displaying. The code do not inserts inside the if condition
    I hope u understand my problem. Can anybody help me out with this.

    This has basically nothing to do with JSP, but with basic Java knowledge.
    When using the '==' operator to compare Objects (yes, String is actually a subclass of Object), then it will look if they are of the same reference. Using the '==' operator to compare primitive datatypes (int, boolean, char, etc) will look if they have the same value.
    That is why the Object class has the equals() method to give the ability compare with another objects. And you can only invoke it when the Object is actually instantiated. So if it is not null.
    if (string != null && string.equals("somevalue")) {
    // or
    if ("somevalue".equals(string)) {
    }should work.
    Edit rym82: this will not throw a NPE, but an ordinary compilation error ;)

  • Hex string and normal string concatenate issue

    Hello,
    what i have is a hex string and a normal string which i want to concatenate into one string.  the problem is that in the output concatenated string you need to select either "normal display" or  "hex display" in the properties.  the problem is if you select hex display then the normal string is converted into hex and if you select normal display then the hex value is not correct.  is there a way to display the hex value in normal display mode?
    attached is a vi showing the problem

    If by "correct output", you mean you want something like 4bytes (0xBADDF00D) converted to 8bytes ("BADDF00D" in normal display), then there are several ways ...

Is this the senario that you are talking about?

  • Scanning... and Mulitple String lines

    My text file that I want to scan looks like this format:
    Name of Student
    Test Answers (True or false)
    Example:
    Joe Smith
    TFTFTFFTFFFTFFTFFTFTTFF etc..
    Jane Sims
    FTFTFTTFFTTFFTFFFTFTFTF etc..
    The issue is - I know how to scan the data of my textfile. However I am dealing with Strings on two lines.
    I want to compute the True and False answers, by tallying them up.
    But my real question is this.
    How can I seperate the detection of the line with the name, and the line with the True & false answers.
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class TureFalseTest {
         public static void main(String[]args) throws FileNotFoundException {
         System.out.println("This program computes the results of students from the test");
         Scanner input = new Scanner(new File("answers.txt"));
         while(input.hasNextLine()){
              String questionResults = input.nextLine();
              // this is the part that is getting me troubled.
         public static int[] computeAnswers (String questionResults) {
              int[] questions = new int[70]
                    // going to continue on with my arrays and what not.Below is what I got, I know that input.nextLine(); will start scanning each line in the text document, line-by-line.
    I want to run my array/caclulations only on the True & False answers of every student.
    But i'm not understanding
    If someone could give me some pointers or tips, that will be greatly appreciated.

    Your problem is the fact that you are converting it to an integer, thus loosing the fractional part. You need to use "Fract/Exp String To Number" instead and create a DBL so yor data is 23.3 instead of 23.
    You also don't need to manipulate the string if the initial part is of constant lenght. Just use the offset input as in the figure below.

  • Comparing two columns in two tables using partial text strings and copying data between tables

    I have two tables:
    The Vendor table is supplied by a clothing manufacturer and lists product data by row with a column that contains a unique manufacturer ID, such as T5C4.  In this table is a short product description and a long product description that I need to find and copy into the second table, Inventory.
    The Inventory table is an export from our Magento store.  Each row contains a unique inventory number in a column that includes but does not match the unique manufacturer ID from the Vendor table.  For example, the unique inventory number could be T5C4-W12, or RED-T5C4W12 or some other variation.
    For each product in Inventory, I need to find the matching product in Vendor, and then copy the short description and long description from Vendor to Inventory.
    Any tips?  Thanks!
    Karl

    Karl,
    Here's a start, as you requested.
    The formula for Our Inventory Row is:
    =IFERROR(MATCH("*"&A&"*", Our Inventory :: A, 0), "n/a")
    The formula for Brief Description in the inventory table is:
    =IFERROR(INDEX(ABC Products :: $A$1:$C$9,MATCH(ROW(), ABC Products :: $D, 0), 2), "n/a")
    The formula for the Full description in the inventory table is:
    =IFERROR(INDEX(ABC Products :: $A$1:$C$9,MATCH(ROW(), ABC Products :: $D, 0), 3), "n/a")
    The Manufacturer's table knows the concise product numbers, so it has the ability to search the Inventory table for it's product id's using wildcards and it then displays the line number of the item in the inventory table. The Inventory table can then search the manufacturer's table for its row number and can reference the brief and full descriptions.
    This approach has a serious limitation. It will only find the first occurrence in the inventory. Now, if you want to accept this, you can sort all the found descriptions and pull them out of the inventory table, and then the next product in line will display it's description too.
    I wish I could do better with this, but it's all I can come up with at this point, knowing only what you have told me.

  • Remove tokens from string and sort string via  XSLT mapping

    Hi,
    I have a requirement wherein I need to sort the records in an XML file with customer num & order number.
    The value of order number is concatenation of order and item like: 3249_110 , 3249_10, 3290_110,3290_10 and so on.
    Expected result:
    3249_10
    3249_110
    3290_10
    3290_110
    The sort on order number is not giving correct result as its not considering it as an number and the output I am getting is:
    3249_110
    3249_10
    3290_110
    3290_10

  • Diff. bet. JSP String ( %! String) and Java String.

    Hi all,
    Think this is one of the basic Questions.
    I want to know the basic diff. between <%!String a=10; %> and <%String a=10; %> programmatically,
    with an example.
    Bye
    Sreedhar

    <%! ... %> are called jsp declarations, and are inserted into the generated servlet class.
    <% ... %> are called jsp scriptlets, and are inserted into the _jspService method.
    For example, the following jsp :
    <%! String a = "10"; %>
    <%!
      public void helloWorld() {
         System.out.println("Hello world");
    %>
    <% String b = "10"; %>Might be translated to the following servlet code :
    String a = "10";
    public void helloWorld() {
       System.out.println("Hello world");
    public void _jspService(...) ... {
      String b = "10";
    }

    Hi Zahkay,
    One recommendation I would give is to probe your code and/or run it in highlight execution mode. This will allow you to see the string that is going into your tdms file. I would put in some way to monitor the string array input into the TDMS write. It may be tat the data is not getting passed correctly from one case structure to another. Some other tips are to use shift registers instead of feedback nodes if you just want to pass data from one loop iteration to another.
