SCAN listeners and default listener all goes to 2nd node

I installed GRID/Oracle yesterday and I saw on the first node, there are scan-listener1,2 and on second node, it has scan-listner3.
This morning,I try to create db by dbca, and it give me a warning that there is no default listener on local node.
Then I checked, there is none any listener at all on local node:
ps -ef|grep tns
grid 31295 30685 0 13:47 pts/1 00:00:00 grep tns
but all on second node:
ps -ef|grep tns
grid 13518 1 0 00:14 ? 00:00:00 /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER_SCAN1 -inherit
grid 13536 1 0 00:14 ? 00:00:00 /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit
grid 15878 15566 0 13:48 pts/0 00:00:00 grep tns
grid 16945 1 0 06:22 ? 00:00:00 /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER_SCAN3 -inherit
grid 16959 1 0 06:22 ? 00:00:00 /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER_SCAN2 -inherit
How to explain this situation? How all the listener failed to second node?
WHere is the log I can check?
Thanks

  • Trying to add another DB under SCAN via DBCA "Default listener LISTENER is not Configured in the grid infrastructure home"

Trying to install another DB under RAC using SCAN listener on a new port.  DBCA gives error "Default listener LISTENER is not Configured in the grid infrasturcture home".
Have tried srvctl config listener, srvctl start listener to start the listener.  Still not able to get past the DBCA error.  What am I missing?  Do not want to start LISTENER on port 1521 as SCAN is running on 1521.

No your Database config does use hostname/ip + port or a tns-entry pointing to the local_listener. Neither method does care for the home the listener is running from.
You will however have to take care of the entries in the clusterware, as the listener is a controlled resource. If you manually relocate it, then it will only work until next restart of crs stack.
The simplest way to switch the home is by running first netca from database home and delete the listener and then switch to grid home run netca again and create the listener.
netca will take care of registering it with crs with the correct environment settings. You will have a short period where your rac won't have a listener and therefore won't accept new connections until the new listener is up and running.
Relocating the current listener requires to modify several parameters via crsctl in the cluster registry, but allows doing this node by node without complete outage.
If you want to go that way, then create another listener from grid home and compare the settings of current listener and of the new listener. You will need to update several parameter before you can relocate it.
Run this command to show the current settings and compare it to the listener from grid home:
    crsctl stat res ora.LISTENER.lsnr -p
You will need to modify serveral parameters, ACTION_SCRIPT,AGENT_FILENAME,ALIAS_NAME,ORACLE_HOME and the ACL
Modify works like this, for ACL you must use the encasing single apostrophe ' and run it as root:
crsctl modify res ora.LISTENER.lsnr -attr "ACL='owner:oracle:rwx,pgrp:oinstall:rwx,other::r--'"
I would recommend Version 1 if short outage is acceptable. For both variants verify that you can resolve all tnsnames entries in both homes.

  • ICal and iCloud and Apple ID all going haywire!

    Greetings.
Starting yesterday (11/27/2011), I have had serious problems with iCloud and my Apple ID.
My calendars on my MacPro have gotten totally wiped out, and they only reside on my 3rd gen. iPod Touch.
Hard syncs with iTunes don't fix the problem.  And when I try to play with the iPod touch's iCloud settings, I get an error message:  "You can't sign in because your account was disabled for security reasons.  To enable your account, reset your password at iforgot.apple.com."
I have reset my password FIVE TIMES this morning and still the same problems!  Apple still says that my account has been disabled.  Resetting the password doesn't allow me to get back in, nor does it allow me to sync my calendars back up.
I NEED my calendars back on my Mac!  And I want my APPLE RESETS to "TAKE!"
Does anyone have any suggestions on how this might be fixed?
Thanks very much for your help.

  • How to failover SCAN VIP and SCAN Listener from one node to another?

    Environment:
    O.S :          HP-UX  B.11.31 U ia64
RDBMS:   Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
It is a 2 Node RAC.
    Question:
How to failover the SCAN VIP and SCAN LISTENER running on node 1 to node 2?
What is the relation between standard LISTENER and SCAN LISTENER ?
Why do we need LISTENER, when we have SCAN LISTENER ?
When I tried with SRCVTL STOP LISTENER , I thought the SCAN LISTENER adn SCAN IP will failover, but it did not?
Also please clarify if I use SRVCTL RELOCATE SCAN -i 1 -n Node1
Actalluy I am trying that by moving the SCAN listeners so that when I do PSU 7 patching on 1 node, no incoming attempt to connect will spawn
a process and thereby opening files in $ORACLE_HOME (which would prevent the patch from occurring)
    Please clarify my queries.
    Thanks,  Sivaprasad.S

    Hi Sivaprasad,
    1. The following link will help you for SCAN VIP and SCAN LISTENER failover from 1 node to another.
    http://heliosguneserol.wordpress.com/2012/10/19/how-to-relocate-scan_listener-from-one-node-to-another-node-on-rac-system/
    http://oracledbabay.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/steps-to-change-scan-ip-address-in.html
    2. The Standard LISTENER is specific for particular node for which it is running. It cannot be relocated as its specific for the node its running. SCAN listeners are not replacements for the node listeners.A new set of cluster processes called scan listeners will run on three nodes in a cluster (or all nodes if there are less than 3).  If you have more than three nodes, regardless of the number of nodes you have, there will be at most three scan listeners. So no relation for standard LISTENER and SCAN LISTENER.
    3. Hmmm. let me put it in easy way for this question. All the RAC services like, asm, db , services, nodeapps registers with this SCAN_LISTENER. So if any of these services (asm, db , services, nodeapps) got down/not running, the SCAN_LISTENER will know the down status, and if any client requests to access the node/service which is down, the SCAN_LISTENER will redirect the client request to the least loaded node. So here all these process will happen without the knowledge of client. And As usual the standard LISTENER looks only for incoming request to connect with the database. So we need both LISTENER and SCAN LISTENER.
    4. If you provide SRCVTL STOP LISTENER,  it stops the default listener on the specified node_name, or the listeners represented in a given list of listener names, that are registered with Oracle Clusterware on the given node. No failover will happen under this case.
    5. Yes you can relocate if you want to relocate the scan.
    Hope this helps!!

    Pradeep. V

  • Why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.

    Hi
why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.

    > why the scan lister and listener configure/start from GRID home why not from Oracle Home.
Because Oracle says that's the way it has to be.
As @MohaAGOU said, starting in 11gR2, the Listeners (both SCAN and traditional) are now cluster resources. Let's start with the SCAN Listener. There are only 3 of them, even if you have 4 or more nodes in the cluster. If a node goes down and a SCAN Listener were running on it, Grid Infrastructure will relocate the SCAN Listener to a surviving node. Much easier to do this if the entire resource were in the GI home. Note that an instance cannot be relocated and it is running on a different home.
As for the traditional listener. The Listener itself won't be relocated during a node termination, but its VIP will.
    Cheers,
    Brian

  • Scan listeners number and balancing result

    Hello,
inside the docs 3 scan listeners are usually referred.
But is it correct to say that with this setup and only 2 RAC nodes, you will normally have an unbalanced cluster, and one node with two times the connections of the other one?
Because if you use round robin DNS you will get 2/3 of resolutions to one node (the one that has got two of the 3 associated IPs bound) and 1/3 to the other one.
So in case of 2 nodes, would it be better to have only 2 scan listeners, or set a 4th one eventually?
    Thanks,
    Gianluca

It is not an unbalanced cluster , scan listeners will only direct the incoming request to the node listener of the instance with lesser  load.
All scan listeners will have all instances in cluster registered with it and so each listener know to which node the connection request should be sent to balance the load.
Even in case of a 10 node cluster, 3 scan listeners would be sufficient,  it is not necessary to have scan listener running on each node to send the connections to that node.

  • SCAN  and local listener

    11.2/AIX
To connect to a 11.2 RAC DB from outside the host, a SCAN Listener itself is not enough. Right? I need to have local listener running as well. Right ?

    Hi,
Yes, you would need to configure independent local listeners for each node. SCAN listeners are not replacements for the node listeners.
A new set of cluster processes called scan listeners will run on three nodes in a cluster (or all nodes if there are less than 3). If you have more than three nodes, regardless of the number of nodes you have, there will be at most three scan listeners. The database registers with the SCAN listener through the remote listener parameter in the init.ora/spfile. If any of these clustered processes fail, they are automatically restarted on a new node.
    How does SCAN work?
“When a client submits a request, the SCAN listener listening on a SCAN IP address and the SCAN port is contracted on a client’s behalf. Because all services on the cluster are registered with the SCAN listener, the SCAN listener replies with the address of the local listener on the least-loaded node (Each scan listener keeps updated cluster load statistics) where the service is currently being offered. Finally, the client establishes connection to the service through the listener on the node where service is offered. All of these actions take place transparently to the client without any explicit configuration required in the client.”

I don't know what happened. All of a sudden, my settings have been changed, my homepage, and EVERYTHING. No matter how many times I go in and change them again, the SAME pages open up when I start FireFox and I am constantly being asked if I want Yahoo as my start page and default search engine. I click the box 'do not ask me again' and it comes up EVERY TIME. I change things like I don't want history remembered, and when I reload FireFox again, it's back to the way it was BEFORE. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I don't know why this is happening, or how to fix it. What do I do??

I do not want to download another virus program.. I do not believe it is a virus. I am running the full version of Norton 360 and it is doing a daily scan. I have Windows 7, 64 bit OS.
This is very irritating !! If I wanted Yahoo I would ask for it !

  • Should SCAN VIP and Listener jump among Nodes?

Oracle (GI and DB): 11.2.0.3 SE
    OS: RHEL 5.6
I remember when I first tried scan several years ago (most likely with 11.2.0.1 EE), the SCAN VIP and Listeners jumps from node to node whenever a DB connection was established.
Recently, in a newly installed 2 node cluster running 11.2.0.3 SE, it seems the SCAN VIP and Listener stick to a single node unless during failover or requested with a command. As a result, a SCAN VIP and Listeners end up running on a single node after some failover testing.
Which is the designed behaviour? I understand they can direct connection requests to DB instance on other node. Just want to know whether they are supposed to jump?

    Hi,
I have not tried it myself, but if you look at the crs profile on how SCANs are defined, they are set to DISPERSION.
    # crsctl stat res ora.scan1.vip -p
    NAME=ora.scan1.vip
    TYPE=ora.scan_vip.type
    START_DEPENDENCIES=hard(ora.net1.network) dispersion:active(type:ora.scan_vip.type) pullup(ora.net1.network)
...So they should not/never run on the same node, since the dispersion policy tells them differently.
However this dependency is checked at startup time, and not always during runtime. So if you do a lot of test, your szenario is possible.
Have you tried waiting a while, if this resolves the issue?
If they stay on the same node, I would open an SR, because then it does not follow the dispersion policy.
    Regards
    Sebastian

  • Grid control and non-default listener

I have oem 10.2.0.5 on linux redhat 5
i have a series of databases with 2 oracle homes on solaris.
    1. we use virtual IPs instead of the host ip. so one IP for each database. This is due to our active/passive cluster. I have read the documentation on this. I was able to configure for this by taking the tnsnames file and using that in the target configration.
My problem now is that the OEM sees my listener as being down. I think this is because it is looking for the default listener on port 1521. We have 1 listener per database and they are on non-default ports. This is for our active/passive failover.
how do I configure the target to look for the correct listener? so I do not have a listener called listner.
My listener has the same name as the database name and is on the same port as my database.

My listener has the same name as the database name and is on the same port as my database.Your database isn't "on" a port, so the fact that you make a statement like "My listener . . . is on the same port as my database." indicates you don't yet have a clear understanding of the relationship of the listener to the database. The fact that you would name your listener the same as your database further indicates you don't yet have a clear understanding of the relationship of the listener to the database.
The database (actually, we're talking about the instance) really has no inherent relationship to the listener. The listener is just a connection broker. One listener, listening on one port, can service requests for multiple databases, even multiple versions (9.x, 10.x) databases, even databases running out of different homes. For that reason alone, I consider it bad practice to name a listener the same as a database. That implies a relationship that simply doesn't exist. Only under extraordinary circumstances would it be necessary to have more than one listener running on a server, regardless of how many database instances may be on that server. And for that reason it really doesn't make much sense to name your listener anything but the default - "listener".
You configure your listener to listen on a certain ip and port. You configure your clients (via tnsnames or other naming method) to send connection requests to the ip and port the listener was configured to listen for, requesting a connection to a service name the listener knows about. The listener knows about service names either through coding in the SID_LIST section of listener.ora, or through self-registration by the instance.
I worked with active/passive clusters with virtual IP's a few years ago and there was really nothing special I had to do as far as the databases, clients, or listeners.

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.
