Scanning from Mac OS X

I've linked my new HP printer 8615 to my Mac OS X, and it works for printing.  But when I try to scan, the printer tells me it can't locate my computer.  But the computer has the printer listed when I go to print.
How can I get the printer to recognize the printer for purposes of scanning?  THanks!
Corinna

I found my answer by myself ...

According to HP :
Print drivers for the following printer types are supported in Mountain Lion by the HP software available from Apple Software Update. These drivers provide print-only functionality.
HP Inkjet single-function printers (Deskjet, Officejet, and Photosmart)
HP LaserJet color single-function, All-in-One, and MFP printers
HP LaserJet monochrome single-function, All-in-One, and MFP printers
HP Designjet printer

  • All in One Printer C5180 stopped printing/scanning from mac 10.6.8

    Hi
My All-in-One C5180 has stopped printing and scanning from mac 10.6.8. It had worked for the past few years but after not using it for 8 months (out of country) it hasn't worked since I came back. I have done as a few suggested, carried out a software update on mac and also downloaded a new driver from this site. Neither worked. The message appearing is " printer off-line" and the printer symbol has red exclamation mark.
    Would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance

Correction to initial post: The 6 tiny sections incorrectly printed on a single sheet are actually from the bottom right-hand quadrant of the original PDF page - NOT the upper right-hand quadrant.

  • Can't scan from mac 10.9 to hp deskjet 3054A

    Hi,
I figured out how to print wireless from my MAC os 10.9 to my printer.  But I can't figure out how to get scan working.  When I try (wirelessly or usb) the printer says that the computer is not found and to make sure the HP software is installed.  and when i try to work it from the computer, i go to system preference, printers and scanners and when i'm looking at my hp deskjet (wireless or usb connected) there is no option to scan.
    Please help.
    Thanks, canariquestion

    Hi canariquestion,
By the looks of it, you're just missing a few last updates. Please follow the Apple update steps in the first document, then once the printer is re-added, reboot the Mac.  After that, you should be able to scan using the methods in the second guide.
Here are the links, please let me know how it goes:

  • Scanning from Mac OS 10.9 to HP PSC1510

I have used an (HP) PC for years, the last few using an HP PSC1510 printer. I have recently bought an iMac, OS 10.9, and am having difficulty getting the functionality from the printer that I used to.
I am able to print, pure and simple, but the HP Solution Center and HP Photosmart Premier are nowhere to be seen.
I have attempted to download the latest drivers from the HP website but have (I think) failed to install them properly (at all?). When I try to open HPPrinterDriver2.16.1.dmg.part  I get the message:  "There is no application set to open the document"
and when I  try  to open HPPrinterDriver2.16.1.dmg (which shows in the Finder as having zero bytes) I get the message: "Image not recognized " (not surprising if it has zero bytes!)
Somewhere on the HP Support site I found something about the Hewlett Packard folder somewhere in Applications (?). I have searched hard and cannot find that either.
I used to get on so well with the Solution Center and Photosmart Premier! Is there anyway I can get them back, or failing that, take proper control of the scanning and printing functions another way?
{Last night I posted this in an old thread on this subject but I'm wondering if it's better to start again.]

    Hi suealpha,
I understand you want to know how to scan on the 10.9.
I will be happy to help you.
The only drivers available are the Apple Software Updates.

  • Failed to Open a Session on the Device - scanning from Mac OSX 10.9.3 - M1217nfw

    Hello,
I'm running into some issues scanning wirelessly from our HP LaserJet M1217nfw MFP from any Mac running 10.9.3. I've tried to "Reset Printing System" and re-adding the printer with no success. Each time I open either Preview/Printers & Scanners/Image Capture, I receive the following error message: "Failed to Open a Session on the Device." When I add the printer, I do so by selecting the "+" icon, and selecting "Add Printer or Scanner..." selecting the printer from the list listed via bonjour, and "Select the software" but my model printer is not listed. The closest printer listed is HP LaserJet Professional M1210nf MPF Series, but it doesn't work. Any ideas here?

Welcome to the HP Forums jpuebla,
I see by your post that you are having issues scanning, you aren't able find the drivers to add the printer.
I can help you with this issue.
The drivers for Maverick are the Apple Update drivers.
OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac.
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer.
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign, then select the printer from the list and click on the Add button.
(make sure it shows the printer name beside Use, not the Airprint driver)
You might have to run the Apple Updates again with USB cable connected to get the drivers installed.
Then try and add the bonjour printer again.
    Test the printer again.
If you are having network issues, then add the printer through the IPProtocal.
After clicking the  + button, select the IP icon across the top, type in the printer's IP address, select jet direct below and then Apply.
    Test the printer.
I have seen the HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 for OS X drivers work successfully, if the issue persists.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

I clicked on a link in an email that may be spam/phishing.  How can I scan my mac book pro for viruses?

You can just download the free ClamXav and scan your entire drive - but as there are no known viruses for OS X (although there is malware - see Thomas Reed's excellent Mac Malware Guide) it's very unlikely that you have a virus.
The best source against malware is OS X itself and common sense. Don't click on links in suspicious emails and be careful of anything that wants to install something on your computer that is not from a reputable source.

  • Can't scan from Pixma to Mac

    Hi,
I have an ongoing problem with scanning from my Canon Pixma to my Mac Airbook. The printer scans, but the image is not made available on the computer - Image Capture says that 'no device is connected'.
Having done some internet research, I see that this may be a driver problem. I've followed advice and installed various drivers, bypassing Apple's gatekeeping systems to do so, but it makes no difference.
I've consulted Apple several times on this but they are unable to help. The latest advice - to uninstall the printer and re-install has had no effect, although I did notice that there was an option to select a particular driver, which I didn't do, not knowing which one to select.
Any thoughts please? It seems daft to have two of the highest-spec bits of kit available, but not be able to do something so basic.

I believe Image Capture is for cameras.
If you go to System Preferences>Printers and Scanners there should be a button for scanner.
    Which printer are you using?

Welcome to the HP Forums! I gather that you cannot find the Save Icon while scanning with your HP Officejet 8600 to your Mac. I am happy to help you with this scanning issue! I have some questions for you:
What program are you using for scanning?

  • Best way to scan from office jet pro 8600 to mac pro and attach to email

What is the best way to scan from an officejet pro 8600 printer to a mac pro desktop, attach and scan?

dunno if you can do it directly, but, assuming the drivers are up-to-date, use Image Capture*, which should get you  a scan, then save it, then when sending the email, click on the paperclip,  and choose whatever it was that you scanned, wherever you saved it....
    and then send it.

*Preview might work, but I don't recall 100% if it does...
don't recall seeing anything that'd let you scan something in, then have it go directly to email and send it out, one-step

  • Mac 10.9.4 : hp photosmart c4795. scan error. try scan from computer or see documentation. press ok

I have a Mac running Mavricks which the wireless printing works with my HP Photoshmart C4795 Printer but the wireless scanning to my Mac is not working. I am getting the error: "hp photosmart c4795. scan error. try scan from computer or see documentation. press ok"
It used to work. I've downloaded and installed the patch for Mavericks.
I have searched for other solutions but none are for a Mac to do a diagnostic test on the HP page.
Any solutions to make this feature work again?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Scanning from the front panel is no longer available on Mavericks as there is no Full Feature Software for the operating system.
Using the provided solution, you may scan using Image Capture. preview or Printers & Scanners.
Below you may find the steps to scan on 10.9:

  • Scanning from my Officejet 6700 premium printer to a mac 10.9.3 wirelessly

    Hello,
My new printer is connected wireless to my network.  I can print and scan from the computer fine, but can't scan from printer to computer.
I tried going into the HP Utility folder to confirm the Scan Settings, but all I can do is scan from the computer. It doesn't give me another option.
I have an HP Office 6700 Premium trying to scan to my (new) Mac OS 10.9.3
    Please help

    Hi there hbetz,
I saw your post about how you are able to scan from the computer however, cannot scan from the printers front panel to your computer. Sometimes the connection is interrupted when the computer or printer or even router disconnects or falls into a sleep mode.
Here is a suggestion for you to try:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
Re-add the printer back (not the AirPrint driver)
I hope that helps you, have a great weekend

  • Can not scan from mx4890dw buttons, only from the computer

    Hello,
I got this Canon AIO a few days ago. I followed the start up guide instructions, got it signed on to the wireless net work easily enough, and installed the software from the CD onto a Win 7 64 bit Dell laptop.
Printing worked perfectly from the get go. Also, "Copy" seems to be working fine. Fax appears to be working, although I can't confirm yet that a fax has gone through ( no one is at work ) and I may have some questions later about how to send and receive fax when sharing a phone jack with a Comcast modem/cable set up. And how to get it to accept faxs while ignoring voice calls.
As for Scan, after I figured out that I had to push the scan button and choose "remote scanner" ( I push the scan button/Remote scanner/ buttons, get the message "waiting" and then operate from the computer) the scan function worked perfectly, in single and duplex, when controlled FROM the computer and Canon MFC toolbox software. But for the life of me I can not get it to scan from the Canon mx4890dw buttons. I push Scan, then "computer", then I select my computer ( there is only one computer), then either color or BW scan. All seems OK until here. But after I select color or BW,  I get a screen that says :"Scanning" with the choice to either cancel or "confirm destination". I select Confirm destination, which then takes me to a screen which says: Confirm destination" showing both the name of my computer and "color scan". That is it, as far as I can go. If I press "OK" it just takes me back to a choice of confirm or cancel. I am trapped in a cycle between these last 2 screens. Once I get to the next to last screen that says "Scanning: cancel or confirm destination", the processing data light starts flashing green. After a minute or so it will stop flashing with the message "an error has occurred/CLOSE". Oh, BTW, I have registered the scanner on the Canon MF Network Scan Utility.
So, I figure there is some button I am failing to push, or I am missing a step. Any one have any ideas on how to get this to scan from the Canon machine?
    Thanks
    Bill

Thank you Deborah, but after many hours of trial and error, time spent with Norton 360 AV/Firewall folks, many install/uninstalls ( especially after I saw on the E-manual that if you plug a cable from the printer into the computer, and you want to go back to wireless, you must uninstall/reinstall the software), the problem is finally apparently completely solved.
I found what I thought might be the problem by accident. When I last got off the phone with Canon, all they had to suggest was that it was either a Norton or firewall issue, or possibly a computer issue, and nothing they could really do or suggest about that. I accepted this, but while wondering what in the world I was going to do, it dawned on me that my previous Kodak all in one( that this machine replaced) had worked fine, with no scanner problems at all, with this computer, Norton and network. So it seemed like it had to be something other than those things. And I believe a Canon inkjet all in one before the Kodak had also worked with no issues scan wise.
Then I decided to try something else on a whim: I cranked up my old Acer Win XP and installed the software, and guess what happened? Perfect function in all ways from the printer/scanner. Scanned perfectly from the Canon using the panel buttons on the printer. And over the wireless network on an old computer using the same Norton Firewall as my Dell. So it now seemed impossible that it could be the network or firewall. It had to be the only variable, the computer or someway the canon was in conflict with the Win 7 Dell. I bet you can see where this is going! So I go to the online support for Canon and sure enough there are Windows 7 drivers for download as well as a firmware update. So I down load these and clock on them, but as far asd I can tell, nothing happens. It appears they did not complete installation.
So the next day I am back on the phone with Canon. Asking in desperation if they can think of anything before I return this machine back to Staples and get something else, which I really hated to do, but I can't take any more of this, as now it had stopped printing also( but all still hunky dory on the Acer!). But this time, the person I am talking to quickly asks if I am trying to install wireless, and says "hold on while I get you to the wireless guys". The wireless expert listens to my problems and quickly says "did you download the Win 7X64 driver?". I said I had tried but it didn't seem to do much. So he has me download it again and shows me the trick: when you click on the download, it creates a folder somewhere else where the driver is actually stored. I click on that driver, and 10 minutes later all is working perfectly. In fact, before I even hang up with the wireless guy, I press the buttons on the Canon and scan quickly to the computer.
So for now all seems perfect, just as it was immediately once I tried it on the Windows XP machine. So I suggest that this be the first thing suggested when folks are having trouble installing on a Win 7 computer. In fact, I have since noticed there is a sheet of paper that came with the canon that advises downloading drivers for Mac computers. Too bad it didn't mention this for for Win 7 also, since apparently at least some of the installation CDs don't include these drivers.
Now I am wondering if I should try and do the firmware update? Kind of afraid to fix what ain't broke.

  • HP Photosmart Premium won't scan to Mac

Since downloading Yosemite on my Mac I can't scan photos from the touch screen on my HP Photosmart Premium C310. I also am unable to scan from Preview or from Image Capture. If I try to scan by touching the scan icon on the printer, I get the following error message: "Scan problem: Try starting scan from computer. Refer to documentation for details."
I don't need any new updates for the printer or Mac (I checked). I have a solid network connection as well. I noticed that my Mac is no longer under Networked Computers on the printer but am not sure if that is related to the scanning problem?
I have also reinstalled HP Software.
    I am able to scan from System Preferences-->Printers & Scanners-->Scan-->Open Scan-->

    Hi,
The solution provided for 10.10 is available via Apple Software Update, using any incompatible HP software which was not designed for your operating system may prevent the correct update from being installed and.
Scanning from the front panel is not supported with the provided solution but only from teh software on yoru Mac:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-Premium-e-All-in-One-Printer---C310a/4023238/model...
I suggest removing any incomatible HP software by going toapplications > Hewlett-Packard and following the HP Uninstaller.
Once the unisntall completes go to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners and click the plus sign.
Select your printer and select teh printer model instead the default AirPrint option within the Use drop Down menu, then you should be able to scan via Image Capture, Preview or from Printers & Scanners.
