SCCM 2007 patch update deployment concern with shutdown PCs
Suppose we have scheduled to deploy MS patch update in SCCM on 1-Jan-14. In deploy software update wizard values provided like
Date and Time = 1-Jan-14 @ 01.00 and Set deadline
2-Jan-14 @ 01.00 .But one Pc from collection was shutdown from 31-Dec-13 To 4-Jan-14 and up on 5-Jan-14. Please let me know if that PC will get updated with Patches?
Till what date patch will be available to install automatically??
Thank you very much. This means no need to do re-deployment on PCs if they are in shutdown phase. All PCs in collection will be get updated whenever they come online.
I am also little confused about exact purpose of below 2 field. Will you please help on this?
Site setting >> Client Agent >> Software update Client Agent >> Update installation form.
1. Enforce all mandatory deployment
2. Schedule deadline - For deployment deadline within

Deploy Java and Oracle updates using SCCM 2007 Software Updates
Hi Team,
I am using SCCM 2007 to deploy software updates on all my servers. Now i want deploy updates fro third party tools like Adobe, Java etc..Please suggest me on how to deploy these updates using SCCM.
I am looking for other simple solution than SCUP 2011. Please suggest.
Thanks
SivaHi,
SCUP 2011 would be the way to do it or a package/program. There are commercial software solutions that plugins to configuration Manager like Secunia
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/corporate/sc2012_plugin/ ,Solarwinds
http://www.solarwinds.com/patch-manager.aspx and Shavlik
http://www.shavlik.com/products/scupdates/ that offer a subscription of updates for these products for a cost of course.
Regards,
Jörgen

Report CWERReporter finishing event handling. (00000000)Hi friend,
I like to answer on postings like yours, its a good exercise for my work and its really cool to have some topics where all people here will contribute.
JohnnyS is a friend of mine which is working with me at our office and we talked a little bit about your problem.
So his opinion was to use the UBCD4Win and work with that option.
The advice of him was:
Grab a USB-HDD case and put one drive in it and boot with UBCD4Win. Then copy all important data to a folder on the external HDD and remove the uneeded data on it. Just the important data!
Make a backup of your data on the external drive from both HDDs. I hope you will have enough free space.
Format the drive in your machine and recover it. Install the system as usually on your first HDD.
Then put the data to where you want.
So I am not sure if I understanded your question right, a little bit more explanation would be useful. I think that will be a long thread. ;)

Want to use SCCM 2007 to image thinkpad 10 with windows 7
Hello,
can someone tell me if
SCCM 2007 can be used to build the thinkpad 10 tablet and if it can
can I deploy a windows 7 x64 image to it and it I can
where are the drivers as I can only find windows 8 drivers.
I have build a Helix successfully in the past with windows 7 but I cannot get the thinkpad to work, what am I missing?????
thanks
NazirPerhaps this page from Microsoft will help understand which versions of SCCM can deploy which versions of OS:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2909893/en-us
As for the ThinkPad 10, I believe it only supports Windows 8.1 so there will be no Windows 7 SCCM driver pack for it. -
Sccm 2012 window update deployment
Hi
I am trying to deploy the software updates in servers, but the issue i am facing is that when i create the package of 170 patches and deploy on servers 2008, then the advertisement coming at client side is in different batches. Example:- In first instance
50 updates advertisement comes at client end and once i Install them and restart the servers then in second instance remaining server advertisement will come.
As I have taken the downtime, so I want that all the advertisement comes in one Instance, can somebody suggest me how to do this ?????
Thanks and Regards DeepakHi Deepak,
For 170 Patches yeah its more than enough but if you take office sp3 patch its around 680 MB ,if all the patches are Security/cumulative patches then i would its more than enough based on the deployments which i have done.
If your system's RAM is 4 GB or more than that i would say it will get installed in a go also sometime like jason said there may be multiple reboot required for patching on few machines.
How you planned the deployment is it mandatory with reboot or mandatory and suppressed reboot?

Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone can help me with a wee thing!
Is there a way in the SCCM console that I can see if updates were installed on a particular computer? If not, is there a way that I can force the client to install the downloaded updates? I can see 168 items downloaded
into the CCM\Cache folder on the computer in question but within the setup event log there doesn’t appear to be a whole series of successfully installed update messages!
I’ve left the computer for a couple of days hoping it would bring up a prompt informing the user that the updates were successfully installed and to restart but the prompt never came.
Any advice welcome!
Cheers,
BonemisterHi Garth,
Thanks for your reply.
Basically I have a Windows 7 computer that hasn't been installing the updates that SCCM 2007 is pushing out to it. If I look in the CCM \ Cache folder on that computer I can see the
updates pulled down from the SCCM server but for some reason the updates don't be installed.
Normally when the updates are pushed down to the computers the install begins automatically and I can see in the setup log in the event viewer on the computers the updates were installed plus
in the control panel can see the installed updates listed.
So what I am looking for is how do I initiate the install of the updates that SCCM has pushed down to the computer. Even if there is a way to delete the updates from the computer
and force SCCM to recheck the PC and re-download the updates and hopefully begin the install, but the thing is I don't know why the updates didn't install in the first place.
I've even tried initiating all of the actions within the Config Manager client in the Control Panel on the machine to see if that would kick things back to life and begin installing
the updates but that didn't work either.
I can see the PC within SCCM and all look well with it i.e. client is installed and active.
So any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Bonemister -
After migration from sccm 2007, there are many systems with no client installed
Hi Everyone,
We have migrated our environment from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 , And Manual client push installation has been done by HeadQuarter SCCM admins on site code of our region.
But as i see , in all systems collection based on OU, there are approx 50% systems with no client installed.
There may be some stale systems in AD.
Is there any way so that i can list out all Stale or old computers which are not in use anymore records of systems from Active directory and so that i move them to OU for which system discovery is not enabled.
Also, it will very useful if i get more information on lastLogonTimeStamp and such more properties which specifies system as stale or OFF the network for some period..You could also remove the objects without a client and adjust the settings in the
Options tab of the Active Directory System Discovery Properties. By tweaking those options you can make sure that you're not discovering those old objects in the first place.

We could use some assistance if anyone is doing any of this.
We have mobile laptops that are used out in the field:
They have SCCM client
Netmotion VPN
Chameleon Celluar Connections
Two things:
1) Is there a piece of SCCM 2007 currently that could manage these (we see SCCM Mobile--but that appears as like smart phones, iphones, ipads, etc). These are toughbooks (panasonic laptops) and they need to utilize several applications) . We
need to manage these differently than laptops with Direct Access.
2) We do not want these people receiving SCCM pushes or inventory or WSUS (this is done through our WSUS server) pushes while on cellular network. When they come back from the field and hit our wireless or connect via network, we would like them to
receive these types of pushing throughout the night. Problem: They set up and configured the laptops to make this cellular Chameleon appear as a fast network and doesn't appear as a device off these laptops. Several pushes are reg advertisements;
although we are moving to mostly task sequences. Which most of you know a regular advertisement will allow us to stop on a slow network, but the task sequence advertisement does not have those capabilities. So we are in a dilema. Again that
only took care of pushes and not all the other things SCCM related we do not want to happen.
How do others handle remote toughbooks in the field on cell connections where the techs want them to appear as fast connection, yet stop SCCM packages from delivering on them or anything like inventory being done on them.
Techs are investigating a rule on Netmotion that we might put in place, we have also thought if setting up a boundary on SCCM related to these Netmotion machines being as 10.0.0.x being slow, but we are unsure how to stop everything or write a correct rule
to stop anything SCCM related while NOT connected via network or wireless?
Ideas, thoughts, pieces of SCCM 2007 that we have no invesigated, etc?Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up.
Honestly, I would look at CM12 for this. CM12 added a number of features for the exact issue.

SCCM 2007-software update synchronizatoin
Hi All,
Due to some activity happened in our organisation the software update point is really messed up. Hence i had to delete and re-create the SUP on remote server in SCCM but when i am checking the logs its only showing deleting expired updates. Also, i
m not able to see the WSUS admin console as well. It is always throwing me out with the error. restart server node.I was thinking to completely uninstall the WSUS point and than try to re-install it and than create an SUP point. Will this be a good approach
or WSUS uninstallation may effect any other site system role installation in SCCM environment?
Rgs,Before you do that, you may wish to check the wsync.log to confirm if the synchronization is completed correctly

SCCM (Configuration Manager) Update deployment "Description" Message
0
Hello All,
I'm integrating the SCCM 2012 SDK with C# for an internal application to deploy packages automatically.
I need to customize the "Description" message (marked in RED) as shown in below image:-
The "Description" message is currently displaying only the error code. I need to customize it to display the "error code + error message" as well.
I'm unable to find the ways to do it in C#. I searched and found a WMI class "SMS_ClassicDeploymentAssetDetails"
(REF:https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh949640.aspx) and "SMS_ClassicDeploymentStatus" (REF: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh949567.aspx) , but there is no methods to modify the "StatusDescription"
property.
Kindly provide/suggest solution to customize and set the "Description" column value in deployment status using C# or Powershell.
Thanks in advance.

Sccm 2007 during image deployment set system bios password
Dear Exprt,
How to set bios password during imaging windows
[email protected]ConfigMgr contains no facilities to do this as ConfigMgr does not manage hardware.
You can however use a tool from the hardware to do this and of course run that tool using a run command line task in the task sequence to do this. This is all contingent on the tool from the vendor though; e.g., Dell has a toolset called the CCTK that does
this and which many folks use during the task to before BIOS level configurations: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/w/wiki/1952.dell-client-configuration-toolkit-cctk.aspx

After update performance issue with certain PCs
Over the past 2 months there was an update to the Forefront Client that caused a strange issue on some of our machines. Basically when we update device drivers MsMpEng.exe goes nuts and uses at least 50% to 98% of the CPU for the entire duration of
the driver install/update.
The immediate result is that some of the larger device driver installs (like video drivers) actually time out because of this. Using procmon I traced the cause of the delay. It looks like MsMpEng is scanning the setupapi.dev.log file over and over
and over..hundreds..maybe thousands of times. We noticed that if we turned off logging for the device driver udpate/install and app install logging that this issue disappears. We've had this level of logging for years and only in the past 2 months
or so has this issue started to pop up. The setupapi.dev.log file is rather large and so I can see why it's causing a delay if it has to scan the file over and over and over.
We aren't sure what changed. We used an older image that had an older version of the Forefront client installed and we made sure it didn't update to a newer client version. That version of forefront had no issue with device drivers timing out. After
updating the client we now have the issue. A change was made recently and we believe the forefront client is behaving differently.
Any ideas about what could cause this?
Thanks.Hi,
Thanks for your question.
How did you perform the update of Forefront Client Security, from windows update or manually? In addition, what are the editions of the Forefront Client Security now and before
you updated?
Best regards,
Susie -
I have successfullt install WSUS and i believe configure good with SCCM 2007.
patchs downloaded but its not come in SCCM 2007 server how to sync to receive patchs in SCCM server.
[email protected]Hi,When you say downloads where do you look then? you shouln't configure anything in the WSUS admin console as all configuration will be overwritten by sccm and you risk that clients install updates unexpecetdly.
Check the wsyncmgr.log file for any errors? do the updates show up in the sccm console? have you run a Synchronization of the repository?
The actual updates are donwloaded ones you select to download and deploy them and not when WSUS syncs.

Jörgen

SCCM 2007 R2 - Push patches to clients but do not install till a specified time
Hi,
I'm not really familiar with SCCM and i have been pushed into administering an environment using SCCM 2007 R2 for deploying Windows updates.
My requirement is to have SCCM push the patches ( i.e download onto clients cache folder) but not install the patches till a specified time. The time will be downtime for the server and we should be able to set it to automatically install at that time.
Also, manually go in and install the pre-downloaded patches if it doesnt automatically install for some reason.
Can someone help me with the settings that i need to set to accomplish this requirement ? Also, is it possible to set different times for a 1000 odd servers ?1-Push patches and install at a specific time go to deployment management created and under schedule give a timeline for patches to be made available and and to install at a specified time just give the deadline for that time.
2- The timlines can be set in deplyment management. deployment management targets a collection of workstations. timeline set in deployment management is applied to collection of systems targeted.
in your case, you will have to create differt collections for workstations. group workstations which needed to be installed with patches at a commion time and create template for that collection and in turnn create a deployment management for that template.
In different deplyment managements you will be able to target differnt time lines for differnt collections as per your downtime schedule.
Kindly mark this post as answere/helpfull, as approprriate found by you so that other administrators facing similar chanllenge can take advantage of this post
