Scheduled shutdown and power settings

I have set up a policy to shut down all domain computers at 1900 every day with Task Scheduler via GPO, but there is still something that I need to configure.
Working hours of the company that I work for, are from 0800 to 1700, but there are still employees that remain after working hours to finish their daily tasks. Many time it happens that the any computer won't be used at all, but they just do not shut it
down.
I would like to set a policy which would apply after 1700 to send the computers to sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity and then shut down the computers that have been on sleep mode for more then 15 minutes. So they do not have to wait till 1900 to
shut down.
Thanks

Hi,
You can create a scheduled task using group policy preferences to initiate shutdown.

iMac goes to sleep/hibernate multiple times per day after installing Maverick OS. Moving the mouse or hitting the spcaebar will not wake the pc.
I have to shutdown and power back on. My iMac was purchased in January 2011 and no longer in warrenty.  The energy saver 'sleep' and 'display' settings are set at 10 minutes. When I changed to 'never' the machine got very hot and I changed the settings back.  I have checks by: Put hard disk to sleep when possible and wake for network access.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Memory timings and power settings anyone?

I'm not very good with computers, so I've just played around with the timings on my memory, but have not found one stable setting as of yet.
The memory is brand new and I've tested it for errors on my brothers computer and there's nothing wrong there.
Intensive harddrive usage, dvd playing and intense downloading while listening to music are sure ways to crash my system. "..........Not less or equal" is the most common error message, but there are
    many many more.
Oh, maybe I should point out that overheating's not an issue, cause I've good fans and run my computer without sidepanels.
I also like to say that I have the first generation of p4 with ht and 533fsb.
I'm sure there's something I forgot to mention but here below I'll paste the system summary that Sandra gave me.
Would be forever grateful if someone could help me out with the memory timings and power settings for my board. Setting it to "auto by spd" gives me a very unstable system, so no avail there.
I'm running the mem at 2.70 and sometimes at 2.65, since these two settings seem to be the ones with least crashes.
    The Memory installed are 4*512mb ,kingston 512 kvr333x64c25 pc2700
    The PSU is a Tagan "TG480-u01" 480w
Many many thanks in advance guys.

  • ILOM feature "Graceful Shutdown and Power Off"

    Hi,
We are using Sunblade 6250/6270s, with a stripped down SLES linux installed. We would want to be able use the ILOM feature "Graceful Shutdown and Power Off", but have failed doing this so far. What is required from the configuration and/or operating system to support this power off alternative? I have searched but not found any information on this topic.
    Thanks,
    Harri

The ILOM "Graceful Shutdown and Power Off" equal you press power button.
The SLES GUI (init 5) it will popup a window to let you confirm your action when you press the power button.
In the command line interface (init 3) when you press the power button your system Graceful Shutdown and Power Offed.

  • XL Reporter Scheduled Jobs and connection settings

Company needs to decommission current SQL Server and move to new box.
Company has many XL Reporter scheduled jobs that run on a client machine.
When the new sql server is in place, what will happen to those jobs? The client machine SBO installation will be directed to the new sql server and the license server there. Will the scheduled jobs "know' from the SBO client to go to the new server for data? Or is the connection string somehow encapsulated in the scheduled job such that they will still try to access data on the old server?
    SBO 2007 A SP 00 PL 48
(Yes, I know it's old. There are reasons.)
    TIA.

Your 2nd guess is true: the connection string somehow encapsulated in the scheduled job such that they will still try to access data on the old server. It will not automatically find the new server unless new server has the identical settings.
You probably need to re-schedule those jobs.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

  • Random restart instead shutdown and power off in bios

    Dear all,
since some time my Thinkpad T410 randomly restarts instead doing a requested shutdown. Also there is a random power off while POST when I power on the system (I not noticed any relationship between both problems except the date since they occur - maybe a system update, but I'm not sure).
I'm running Linux 3.1.2-1-ARCH with thinkpad-acpi kernel module and laptop-mode enabled.
I also tried Windows and Ubuntu to assure that this problem is not hardware related and I never experienced the problems with both tested OS's.
Has anybody experienced similar problems or a clue where to start looking for problems?
    Cheers,
    Martin

By now, i think i solved the problem with a clean arch installation. I know, it's overkill, but I can't figure out the cause of the randomly appearing problem.
@albLinux: If you have this problem when rebooting each time, try google or have a look here:

can anyone explain me the procedure and initial settings to do sto for schedule lines?
Create a STO with new doc type for material M1 to ship from plant 1 to plant 2 with qty as 100. On pressing enter you should be able to see schedule lines in delivery schedule tab. In schedule line you should see the Material availability date, GI date, loading date etc.
can anyone give the answer for this question..

  • Hitachi 7K750 Power Settings and Load Cycle Count

    Hello All-
I installed a 500GB Hitachi Travelstar 7K750 on Friday. I have set it up with both a Mac OSX 10.6.8 partition and with a Windows 7 Professional SP1 partition. The system is a 2010 MacBook Pro 15in.
As of now the "load cycle count" acorrding to SMART Utility is 1614 with 29 power on hours. This seems quite high given the amount of time it has been in use. From what I have read the power settings could be to blame. I have tried to use hdapm but it is not compatible with this drive. Any ideas of what I could try to stop it from increasing at this rate?
    -Thanks

Count of load/unload cycles into head landing zone position.[16]vThe typical lifetime rating for laptop (2.5-in) hard drives is 300,000 to 600,000 load cycles.[17] Some laptop drives are programmed to unload the heads whenever there has not been any activity for about five seconds.[18] Many Linux installations write to the file system a few times a minute in the background.[19] As a result, there may be 100 or more load cycles per hour, and the load cycle rating may be exceeded in less than a year.[20]

  • Power Saving & Scheduled Shutdown

I work in a computer lab at a grammar school... it's a small room but we have 15 eMacs squeezed in, and they generate a lot of heat. I've tried putting the machines on a schedule to start up at 9 am on weekdays, and shut down at 6:30 pm every day, but invariably, they're asleep at 6:30, and so the shutdown never happens. I set them to never go to sleep, too, but it doesn't seem to stick. We're running 10.3.9 on most of these. This sound familiar to anyone?

  • Automatic Scheduling of Virtual Machine Shutdowns and Start-ups

Is there a scheduler available to Shutdown and Start-up Azure Virtual Machines?

    Hi,
Based on my experience, if you shut down the VM within the RDP session, the VM would be in the stopped status and you will still pay for it.
Do you want to stop it to the stopped(deallocated) status to save money? If yes, you can create schedule tasks with Azure PowerShell cmdlets on your local computer.
    Start-AzureVM -ServiceName xxx -Name xxx
Stop-AzureVM -ServiceName xxx -Name xxx (VMs would be in the stopped(dealloacted) status)
Stop-AzureVM -ServiceName xxx -Name xxx -StayProvisioned (VMs would be in the stopped status)
Please note that if all the VM in a cloud service are in the stopped(deallocated) status, the public IP address would be changed next time you start a VM.
