Scheduling an Automator app.

Yo...
I've got a small Automator app that moves files from one folder to another. I'd like to schedule this for specific day and time each week.
Without using iCal, is there an easy way to do this using Automator or something else?
Thanks!
T

Try using CronniX to schedule the application.

  • How to run an Automator app at a specific scheduled time?

    Hi all,
I know this question has been answered before, but the only info I can find on it is extremely dated.
How can I run an Automator app (rsync backup) at a specific scheduled daily time?

One way is to use launchd.  The easiest way is with Lingon (search in the App store)
Then in the run input box use "open" i.e: open "/users/tony/scripts/rsyncbu.app"

I have tried going under System Preferences-Security&Privacy-Privacy and adding my Automator generated .app but that does not work.
    Any suggestions?

Better check the site of the maker of that application for further information:

You can use lauchd to run the script.
Here's an example of an Automator App that I have scheduled to run at 7am daily:
You would save this as com.yourname.plist and put it the the Folder: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ (then log out and back in, or reboot)
(To run a workflow, change open to automator)
(A nice GUI launchd editor is Lingon)

  • Help! Finder thinks photoshop is automator.app. How do I correct this?

    Hi,
Finder thinks that my program "Adobe Photoshop 7.0" is to be opened by automator.app
I've copied over a saved version of the application but the system still thinks this to be to do with automator.app
how do I fix this without re-installing the whole lot (if i can find the cd!!!)
    I just updated to os x 10.4.10
just before the error I was about to upload some photos from my camera and the capilo mounter program which does this reported a usb error.
About that time I also I got problems again with my freecom 400gb going back to its old tricks of making finder hang again (see earlier post)
    any ideas?

    Brody Hi,
mine is the APG graphics Powermac G4
Machine Name: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.7)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 400 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.8f5
<quote>Was the machine asleep with Energy Saver before the issues began?.....</quote>
No the machine was not asleep in this instance.
I have the "put disks to sleep" option to off because of problems i had (and still have) with a freecom 400GB external drive.
    <quote>Is your data backed up?</quote>
    Yes.
also I now see that when i click on a .jpg the finder is able to find the photoshop i moved from os x applications in readiness for copying over the backed up version. This seems to me to indicate that the problem is with finder identifying a click on the photosho application icon with the application itself.

  • Scheduled delivery print apps font size. Can it be enlarged?

Is there any way to enlarge the font size for scheduled delivery print apps?  The print is really small.

    MWH811,
The answer is most likely going to be no on this question, but I would like to do some research on it, so can you name the specific apps you are referring to?

  • -1712 error while opening automator apps

I have a few custom that erro out with -1712 when i try to open them on my iMac. on my MBP they work perfectly. any help ?
I have checked the disk permissions and the verified the disk but no luck. I have rebooted as well.

It had nothing to do with the actual wokflow. ALL automator apps on my iMac were having the same problem. Used Onxy to clean up the applicaitons, systems and fonts cache. one reboot later all is well again.

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to abort a running Automator app

I have ceated an automator app that takes control of the mouse and does a couple of things with it. A couple of times, for different reasons I would have loved to have been able to abort my automator app.
Is there a keyboard short cut that can do that? I have tried ESC without success.
While the automator app is running a liitle cog appears on the menu bar. If I'm quick enough and the mouse is still for long enough, I can click on that cog and that has an option to kill the app, so the functionality is there.
    Thanks.

Hi fane_j, thanks for the answer.
I don't know, it must be old age, why did'nt I think of Automator Help???
And you were right, the shortcut doesn't work in practice. How did you know that would be the case? Is Automator known to be a bit of a dud app?
Its not what I'd have expected, as I said the "Stop" fetaure of the cog in the menu bar works great (so long as the mouse isn't moving around uncontrollably). Ya'd think the shortcut would work the exact same.
Whats that ⎋ key. I don't seem to have it on my keyboard. (It looks like the time machine menu bar icon) Perhaps that may work?

  • Automator app won't run from double-click

automator app won't run from double-click in finder or from alert from ical. Will only run if I open in automator editor.
I found a solution on my own. I opened activity monitor and all the automator apps that I run daily were hanging up and the auromator launch was hanging up. I force quit them from the activity monitor. Now it works again.

I might have gotten there eventually on my own, but I suspect finding your post saved me a lot of work. Thanks for posting your solution.

  • Running Automator app/service as command from an Application

I want to create an Automator app or service to be called from a script editor.  Which action would allow me to retrieve the filename/filepath that was being edited by that application?  Also, the editor has a "run command" feature that I planned to use to run the automator app.  What type of automator app should I create to be able to run it as a command?

Friends, i've got, where the problem is.
when we run a class file directly from a command prompt, we get an environment with that shell window. but for a servlet application running these kind of commands from a class creates kind of child processes. each and every command is executed as a child process of jvm and don't get those environment. we have 'PATH' variable in the environment. when a command (say, 'dir' or 'sh' or 'ls', etc.) is executed, the shell first search for that executable file (i.e. dir / sh / ls) in the given paths in the variable 'PATH'. this is not available for the child commands of jvm. hence the basic commands are searched in the current directory of the jvm and they are failed.
i solved the problem giving full path of the commands. like :
    p = rt.exec("/bin/sh runningScript.ksh")

  • Automator.app wont run in leopard

When I click on automator app I get the folowing message - You cannot use the application “Automator.app” with this version of Mac OS X. Can someone help me with this? Thanks.
    \

Most likely Automator.app didn't upgrade correctly when you upgraded to leopard. You can either reinstall leopard (this might be a bit extreme in your situation) or reinstall only automator from the leopard install DVD. This can be done using shareware called Pacifist http://www.charlessoft.com/. The usage of Pacifist is pretty self-explanatory but post here if you have difficulties.

  • TS3274 All my events scheduled in calender app are gone. How can I recover?

All my events scheduled in calender app gone. How can I recover?

How recently did you backup your iPad?  You can restore from that backup, which would, at least, restore calendar entries from the date of that backup.

  • Why don't my Automator Apps start when I open them?

Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Automator Apps will not automatically start.  Even if I manually open them, nothing happens.  The only way that I can get them to perform their designated tasks is to open them indirectly through the Automator and and manually run them as a workflow from within that application.  It didn't used to be this way and it still says that their applications are self-running workflows.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds. So check the side switch first if you have no sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Android  DT automated  app installer now spotted on Verizon phones, is your phone clean? ?

Android bloatware alert: DT Ignite automated app installer spotted on T-Mobile, Verizon phones | PCWorld

If you read about it, it is quite scary.
It allows the carrier to get into your phone and install software such as promotions, ads, banners, etc.
The software can bypass the installer and install it self without your knowledge or consent.
It can also install bloatware which uses the metered data you use at your expense.
Right now it has been on the note 4 and the Lg g3 (from what I read).
It is real and currently in all the news.  The crazy thing about the software is that it is granted access to all information on your phone and can install anything it wants w/o your knowledge or consent...actually you can't even say no or uninstall it.  Currently the only phones that seem to be immune are the nexus phones and of course any windows/apple products.

  • Retaining Custom made Icons For Automator Apps

Hello, I've noticed that when I give a custom made icon to an Automator app, it will display it on my Mac but when I send it to someone, it's original icon is displayed. Is there any way to have it display the custom made icon even when I send it to someone else?

    Jerry,
I suspect you are using the old trick from the Classic OS of just transferring the icons between the Info windows.
I think there is a way to retain that icon but it is quite involved. I haven't tried this so just guessing at this point.
The normal icon for the Automator app is stored in the package that is created when you save the completed workflow. You can get access to the package by using the Show Package Contents contextual menu item in the Finder.
Inside the package you will find a number of files and folders. Within the Resources folder you will find two files related to the icons for the package, one for the Applet and one for documents.
The Applet icon file is the one that you need to work on and change to retain your modified icon. There is a little utility called Icon Composer that is an Apple product available on my machine in the Open with dropdown contextual menu. This might have been installed with the Developer tools though.
Within Icon Composer you can replace the icons within the Applet file and they should stick upon transfer to another machine. Here is the description within the help files of Icon Composer.
"You need to give IconComposer at least one image to generate an icon (.icns) file. However, you should provide four different versions of the icon. IconComposer optimizes each version for rendering at the resolutions of 128x128 pixels, 48x48 pixels, 32x32 pixels, and 16x16 pixels.
If you give IconComposer only one image, it should be optimized to look best at 128x128 pixels. This ensures it looks goods when displayed at the maximum resolution of 128x128 pixels, and looks acceptable when scaled down to the smaller resolutions.
If you supply different sizes of the icon to IconComposer, you should also provide 1-bit image masks for the three smaller resolutions. An image mask defines what parts of the icon are clickable. Assuming the color black is used to compose the image mask, any areas that are colored black in the mask define which parts of the icon can receive mouse clicks.
IconComposer can create icons from the following image formats: GIF, JPEG, PDF, PICT, PNG, TIFF, and any of the QuickTime-supported image formats. To create the actual icon file, drag the icon images to the corresponding image wells in IconComposer. Then choose Save from the File menu, which prompts you to name the icon file and choose a location for it."
So as you can see it could be quite involved.
It might be easier to develop a method to automate what you are currently doing and provide the people with a blank file that has the other icon to transfer.
