SCOM 2012 sp1 - update rollups cumulative?
I've recently taken over a SCOM environment from a coworker who left. It is currently on SCOM sp1 UR 6. Can I upgrade straight to update rollup 8 or do I need to install update rollup 7 first?
Thanks,
Hi,

SCOM 2012 SP1 Update Rollup 5 - DB and DW SQL script and the Management Packs
Hi,
I am applying SCOM 2012 SP1 update rollup 5 from KB article : 2904680.
Step# 4 and 5 from the "Installation Information" sections says to run the SQL queries(UR_Datawarehouse.sql and Update_rollup_mom_db.sql) located at "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\System Center 2012 SP1\Operations
Manager\Server \SQL Script for Update Rollups\."
But I do not have "System Center 2012 SP1\Operations Manager\Server \SQL Script for Update Rollups\." folder location on my SCOM Management Servers. Similarly I do not have the MPs given in Step #6.
Can someone please let me know from where else can I get these SQL scripts and the MPs. What if I don't run these SQL scripts. Is that OK?You will find it on below path%SystemDrive%\Program Files\System Center 2012\Operations Manager\Server \SQL Script for Update Rollups\.
inside system center 2012 folder> search to Server folder and inside it you will find SQL Script

Hi All,
I am planning to deploy patches on SCOM server. We are on SCOM 2012 SP1 as of now. As you know Microsoft has been released UR1, UR2, UR3, UR4, UR5 and UR6 for SCOM 2012 SP1.
Do I need to deploy each UR one by one on SCOM server or UR6 will have all fixes?
If I go for directly UR6 then does this patch contains all fixes which are available till UR5?http://blogs.technet.com/b/server-cloud/archive/2014/04/23/system-center-2012-sp1-ur6-and-system-center-2012-r2-ur2-now-available.aspx
Customers can now download the latest update rollups for both System Center 2012 SP1 and System
Center 2012 R2. Update rollups provide a cumulative package of fixes for each System Center component and are available from Microsoft Update. Alternatively, they can be manually downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog. -

I've run across an interesting problem. After applying SP1 update rollup 2, I decided to re-organize my runbooks by placing them in a new folder naming structure.
I created the new folder structure under the runbook server in the runbook designer. I then right clicked and moved the runbooks to their new location. Everything was fine until windows updates were applied (Windows 2012) and the server was restarted.
After the restart, the runbooks are missing from both the designer and the web console.
I saw posts about truncating the Authorization Cache. I did that (see below) but that has not resolved my issue.
TRUNCATE TABLE [Microsoft.SystemCenter.Orchestrator.Internal].AuthorizationCache
EXEC [Microsoft.SystemCenter.Orchestrator.Maintenance].EnqueueRecurrentTask 'ClearAuthorizationCache'
EXEC [Microsoft.SystemCenter.Orchestrator.Maintenance].EnqueueRecurrentTask 'Statistics'
Not all the runbooks are missing. Some are visible. However, if I view the runbooks via SQL by querying Orchestrator.dbo.Policies, I see all of the runbooks. They just all don't show up in the designer.
SELECT * FROM [Orchestrator].[dbo].[POLICIES] Order by Name
The ones that are missing are always the same when the web console or designer is run (designer ran with and without elevated permissions).
Has anyone else seen this behavior? How do I get the runbooks to show back up in the correct folders? Or, how can I get them to show up anywhere so I can move them to the appropriate location?
Thank you
TedHi Ted,
sometimes seen similar.
It's not supported to manipulate the Orchestrator DB with SQL, but I know only to fix it with SQL statements.
All information below without warranty!
There's a column named Deleted in table Policies. Look with your select statement above if the Runbooks have the deleted flag. If yes, update it to 0.
But, I guess not. I think the previous containing folder has the deleted flag (table folders) and the Runbooks have still this folder as ParentID.
SELECT POLICIES.Name AS RunbookName, FOLDERS.Name AS FolderName, FOLDERS.Deleted AS FolderDeleted
FROM POLICIES INNER JOIN
FOLDERS ON POLICIES.ParentID = FOLDERS.UniqueID
WHERE POLICIES.Name = 'Name of one Runbook'
If so, change the deleted flag from the containing Folder:
UPDATE FOLDERS
SET Deleted = 0
FROM POLICIES INNER JOIN
FOLDERS ON POLICIES.ParentID = FOLDERS.UniqueID
WHERE (POLICIES.Name = 'Name of one Runbook')
after that Restart Management Service and Refresh view in Runbook Designer
Good luck!

Three agent UR versions gets installed from gateway - SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4
Hi,
We have a SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 installation with several gateways that servers connect to and get installation from.
We noticed that when the agent get installed on a client server it gets first the agent itself, then UR1, UR2 and last UR4.
From the XML-section in the task that has installed the agent one can read the following:
SoftwareUpdateInstalled KB2784734-amd64-Agent.msp;KB2826664-amd64-Agent.msp;KB2880799-amd64-Agent.msp; SoftwareUpdateInstalled
Below is from the application log of a newly installed server that got the agent installed.
The question I have is if this is correct? Why are all three UR installed?
Shouldn't it be enough with the latest version of UR? Are they not cumulative?
Can I simply delete the older versions in the agent directory of the Gateway?

This should be normal, as we can see in the below two articles. When applying Update Rollup 2, UR1 is listed there, and when applying Update Rollup 3, UR1 and UR2 is listed there also.

I am getting the following alerts in my SCOM console and cannot find a resolution to fix the issue. I don't want to set an override, as an override will prevent the PowerShell alert in other instances, where I might want to receive an alert.
Looking at the alert description, it states "The Data Access service is either not running or not yet initialized"
The SCOM Console launches and responds fine, and I get no other errors. I check the Data Access service and it is online. I have left the system alone for a couple of hours and no other errors. I then closed those alerts and restarted the
server, and they came right back in, so I know that this is something that is happening at either server startup of during the start of the SCOM services.
Is it possible that SCOM is trying to execute these scripts and the Data Access service has not come online yet?
Has anyone else come across this before? Please try the method in the following thread:

I need to integrate SCOM 2012 SP1 (without UR)with SCVMM 2012 SP1(without UR).
Is Update Rollup required for this integration as a prerequisites? or We can directly proceed with Integration without update Rollup. Please advice.
Can we get performance date of virtual machine by integration scom with scvmm?

Question on upgrading to SCOM 2012 R2 form SCOM 2012 SP1
Hello!
I planned upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2 form SCOM 2012 SP1.
Should I install any or last update rollup package to my SCOM 2012 SP1, before upgrading to SCOM 2012 R2 ?It is highly recommend that you has install most updated CU before upgrade SCOM 2012 sp1 1 to SCOm 2012 R2 but it is not necessary. You should view NEPA PFE Team blog that demostrate how to upgrade SCOM 2012 SP1 with CU4 to SCOM 2012 R2.

SCOM 2012 SP1 Web Console not filtering "Items by Text Search"
I have the weirdest issue with not one, but two installations of SCOM 2012 (SP1) specific to the Web-based Console. I have to think that it's something that I've messed up since each installation (separate domains, separate environments) is exhibiting
the exact same behavior and that I cannot find a single mention by anyone else experiencing this problem anywhere on the 'net.
The problem I'm encountering is that when I try to filter the list of objects using the "Look for: Items by text Search" option, the list doesn't filter! It's just the *weirdest* thing!
For example, I go into "Microsoft Windows Server; Performance" and select "Disk Capacity". The view loads just fine with two panes up top, and the object list down below. I select a pane to display the list of objects which
gives me all the servers discovered/managed by SCOM. I changed the "Look for:" drop-down from "All Items" to "Items by Text Search" which makes the text field (to the right) active. I enter my text string and........
nothing happens. When I hit "Enter" the pane simply refreshes. The "Reset" button doesn't become active further reinforcing the fact that something just ain't right.
I have a installation of SCOM 2007 R2 and this feature works flawlessly.
Anyone have any idea as to what I may have missed or what I might do to resolve this issue? Again, I've found absolutely nothing on the Internet specific to this issue (unless my search criteria is woefully flawed) which suggests that I've messed something
up.
Thank you in advance for your time!
-Todd
PS - this feature works just fine in the installed/thick client/console.Unfortunately, I never did receive an answer to this issue/post, and I never found a solution with this version of SCOM.
I did, however, just test this functionality on the SCOM 2012 R2 installation and discovered that the "Items by text search" filter in the web console *does* work as one would expect. So, if you're able, upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2 and you should
be much happier with the result. (I think I'm running Cumulative Update #2, if that helps.)
Hope this helps!

SCOM 2012 SP1 RTM - SP1 UR8 or R2 UR4 ?
Hi,
I need to determine whether we will upgrade existing SCOM 2012 SP1 RTM to SP1 UR8 or R2 UR4?
I suppose going to R2 UR4 would require several hops, i.e SP1 RTM -> SP1 UR8 -> R2 RTM -> R2 UR4.
I have three environments (dev, preprod and prod) to upgrade.
Each environment has distributed architecture (2 MS, 1 gateway, 1 web console server, 1 operations console server (TS) and up to 100 agents.
I am also looking to implement GSM for website monitoring, but I don't think that is a factor in the decision.
I am hesitant to take on the additional work of going to R2 as I doubt we'll use any of the new features.
A deciding factor is end of product support: http://support2.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?sort=PN&alpha=operations+manager&Filter=FilterNO
So is it accurate to say 2012 SP1 mainstream support end date is 12 months after a 2012 SP2 release date IF SP2 is released, and if no SP2 is released, 7/11/2017?
Comments much appreciated, thanks.
Jasonit's easy to upgrade from SP1, why not to upgrade even if you don't use any of the new features yet

Upgrade SCOM 2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR5
We are planning to upgrade our SCOM2012 SP1 to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR5. One of our MS accidentally upgraded to SCOM 2012 SP1 UR4 already. I need to know if I can use the below to upgrade all of them to UR5
http://www.ms-opsmgr.eu/?p=48
Is this the correct path or is there any other documentation or precaution , I need to takeI used this link to update all my SCOM instances to SCOM 2012 SP1 CU5 and it worked fine for me.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2904680
Since the these updates are cumulative, I guess one MS already CU4 should not affect the SCOM functionality. But still lets wait for other experts to comment on this.
