Script to check database connection on 9.3.1

Hello,
I hope I can describe this clearly. We are running Hyperion 9.3.1. The database and essbase are on one server, and the applications are on another server.
We do a nightly database and essbase backup, and in some environments, we lose the database connection, as evidenced by signing onto EAS, and trying to access the Business Rules icon, and getting a message that the connection failed. We currently resolve this by scheduling a restart of the services, but I have been asked instead if I can write a script that queries the database, and if it is not up, to send an email.
I am not an experienced script writer, and would appreciate as much help as I can get towards this objective. Thank you for reading this.

Take a look at this thread: Re: Planning server not showing up while attaching BR in Essbase
I just did a quick test on my 11.1.1.3 VM and ran this query:
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM HBRPluginData
If you didn't get at least a 1 as a response, you'd know it wasn't working.
It wouldn't be all that hard to script it. An easy test is the next time EAS is down to go try the above query and prove that you get a 0 or an error and compare it to EAS in a running state.

  • Script to check RDP connection status

    Hi all,
    Could anyone provide me a script to check whether multiple remote servers are able to RDP or not. I just want to check the connectivity status. I have checked with past threads available in form, but none has worked for me. Powershell or Batch or VBS scripts
    ... anything would be good....
    I am not that much good at writing scripts.. So please help me.
    Thanks in Advance..
    Vinay..

    Run this script on one of the servers:
    Get-Wmiobject -Class Win32_Terminal -Property *
    It should return a number of information including, fEnableTerminal. For servers that have RDP enabled, fEnableTerminal should be 1, for the servers with RDP not enabled, fEnableTerminal should be 0.
    Once you can confirm that this is the case, I will provide the full script to run this on multiple servers with input from AD query of text file
    That still won't tell you if the TS is accessible.  PortQry or Net Tcp are the fastest and easiest ways to do this.
    Your code also only orks on WS2008R2 and later but, s posted, ill not work on any system.  Have you actually tried it?
    The other bigger issue is that the Win32_Terminal class will always return enabled on any server even if the terminal server is inaccessible and even if it is in Admin mode.  All Servers since 2003 have Terminal Server running by default but not in
    Terminal Server mode.
    PortQry to 3389 will tell us that the TS is alive and available.  Win32_Terminal will report enabled even if the service is stopped.
    Win32_Terminal is only useful to admins and PortQry can be used by anyone.
    The above PowerShell code can be run on any system instead of installing PortQry or other software.
    The original question was "Check RDP connection".  RDP is available on all systems since XP.  The Win32_Terminal class is only available on Server class machines and it does not check to see if the RDP connection is available.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Querying the MIB for estabilished database connectivity

    Hi
    Fairly new to the MIB and its internal workings.
    Can someone explain or provide an exampe ud script to determine database connections that are currently running.
    Configuration currently has the followin database connections:- Oracle 10g, DSM, Supra(IBM) and IDMSX(ICL)
    Take it the above should not make any difference.
    Need to understand what TA_CLASS, TA_OPERATION etc I need to query?
    Regards Sam

    Sam,
    The current state of the connection between a Tuxedo server and its
    asssociated resource manager is not part of the information offered by
    tmadmin or by the Tuxedo MIB, so the best way to obtain this information is
    by querying the database for active connections in its own specific way.
    Another way to obtain this information is to implement a simple service that
    makes one database call and to invoke this service to see if the database
    connection is active.
    It is also possible to perform a GET operation on the T_ULOG TM_MIB class
    and search for specific userlog messages that your application has seen when
    there is a database connection failure.

  • How to check the database connection using OCI

    I am working on enhhancement of very old application developed using C and OCI. It has a background process which acts as a middleware for interaction of any other front end process with oracle database. Any processes, which needs to interact with database sends a request to background peocess and then it will execute a call to execute the stored procedures for performing requested operation (like select, update, insert) on table and will send the result back to respective process. So this process has to be always running in background and connected to branch database.
    If branch database gets restarted or connection gets dropped due to some ad-hoc problem then the background process also has to be restarted manually. Because this process establishes the connection to branch database only once on start up and it does not have the intelligence to reconnect automatically in such scenario.
    I am looking forward to build the intelligence in this process to automatically reconnect if connection with branch database is lost. But I am not familer with OCI, and I am not sure if there is any OCI call which can determine if my earlier connection is still available. Can any one please tell me if there is any other way to check the connection other than the execution of dummy query, then check if it gets executed properly and then do the actual query.
    Thanks in advance,
    Deeapk

    Hi,
    If you are reworking the application can you not build in the functionality to re-establish a connection if there is a failure? That is, a submission from the application server to the database server detects a failure, etc. and then re-establishes the connection. If you need a more frequent check than during a user-initiated roundtrip, you may be best served by using the "dummy query" technique on some time interval.
    From my understanding using HA Event Notification would require a RAC database (plus a multi-threaded application and services correctly configured on the RAC-side).
    In the documentation I see this:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14250/oci09adv.htm#sthref1495
    "Applications must connect to a RAC instance to enable HA event notification."
    In any case, this has the potential to be a bit complicated...

  • Checking database availability with shell script

    can anyone help with a script that checks for database availability before 10 P.M and 7 A.M at 5 minites interval and starts a SQL Load of a table once the db is available.
    I have no Shell script experience at all but I can amend an already written script.
    Please Help !!

    Dear Timothy,
    Within the Oracle software you have installed on your machine, there is a script called "dbstart" within the <ORACLE_HOME>/bin directory. This script provided by Oracle can be easily modified to check whether the server is up and should help solve your problem.

  • Script to check if internet is connected.

    I am new at scripting and have a problem.
    I need a script to check if my headless server, after starting up in the morning, has an Internet connection or not, and once it has established that it is connected to the Internet it needs to send me a mail that it has a connection.
    Now the mail sending part of the script I can do.
    However the checking if it has an Internet connection or not is harder and here I get stuck.
    I have the following script to check if I have a connection (found it on macinstruct.com).
    set intnt to do shell script "ping -c 1 google.com; echo -n"
    set paras to number of paragraphs in intnt
    if paras < 5 then
    Now I would like the script to recheck if it has or has no connection till it has one, and then execute sending the mail. This is where I get stuck.
    Anybody have such script or can tell me how to do this?
    Thanks.

    I am not sure that your method of checking for internet connection is ideal (and I am sure you will get some hints from others). However, what you're looking for is the repeat while ... end repeat loop.
    Note that in the example below, I have initialised your variables to an empty string and 1 respectively. You could also just repeat the lines inside the repeat loop.
    set intnt to ""
    set paras to 1
    repeat while paras < 5
    set intnt to do shell script "ping -c 1 google.com; echo -n"
    set paras to number of paragraphs in intnt
    end repeat

  • Using database connection in a servlet and get errors after 8 hours

    Hey,
    I'm running a poker script using applet/servlets and it works great. But for some reason about about 8 hours that database layer stops working. At first I thought it was the connections to mySQL that were timing out (because im using connection pooling) but after turning pooling off (I now create the connection each time) I'm still seeing that same error (I can create a connection but when I do an action ex. like a select statment I get an error). What i'm wondering could it be that the driver I load with Class.forName() some how unloads it's self after x amount of time not being used? Not sure if that is it but if anyone could give me some insight that would be great. The Error i recieve is below:

    Hey,
    Thanks for the responces. For the connection pooling I would open 5 connections and keep them open. So i though maybe after 8 hours after not being used they would timeout. Thats why i turned off conection pooling and create a new connection each time. Anyways i'll post the code below incase i made a mistake somewhere.

    Basicly the why it works is the connection pool hold the database connections. When the user needs a connection they use the database controller to request a connection (By create a instance and called the connect() method) and the connection is either created or grabed from the connection pool. After the user is done with the connection they call the disconnect() method which closes the connection or returns it to the connection pool.

  • Database connects but no tables are shown

    Hello
    I have connected to the database on my remote server in dreamweaver 8 and it says its connected successfully, but when I open the tree or try to make a recordset no tables are show and when I try it in advanced this error appears:
    "Error calling GetTables:
    MySQL Error#: 1064
    You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that
    correponds to you MySQL server version for the right syntax to use
    near '-maillist' at line1"
    maillist being my database name
    I'm not very good at dynamics yet so don't really understand the SQL syntax
    This is what dreamweaver connection made me:
    <?php
    # FileName="Connection_php_mysql.htm"
    # Type="MYSQL"
    # HTTP="true"
    $hostname_blog = "localhost";
    $database_blog = "servername"
    $username_blog ="servername"
    $password_blog ="password"
    $blog = mysql_pconnect ($hostname_blog, $username_blog, $password_blog or trigger_error (mysql_error (), E_USER_ERROR);
    ?>
    Don't know if any of this makes sence to you.
    Please Help!

    Is there any way you can check it on another computer using a different version or installation of Dreamweaver?
    But, from your response, it doesn't sound like you've actually deleted the connection scripts - it's a specific command in DW. You've installed the patch so that's good, you can verify the installation under the About menu and look for the version number. Bit then here's exactly what you need to do just to cover all bases
    1.  First delete the database connection from the Databases tab which is alongside the Bindings tab and the Server Behaviors tab. You'll highlight the connection, click the minus sign, and confirm. This will delete the connections folder and then file within.
    2.  From the Commands menu, find Connection Scripts > Delete Connection Scripts.(I'm guessing from memory, if it isn't the Commands menu, try the Site menu) 3.  Exit and restart DW 4.  Define the database connection again, use the same info as before, server, DB name, etc. Make sure you name the connection name as before as any files you have that use the connection will be looking for it under that name. Test the connection to make sure it can once again establish the connection.
    That should work. I've had to do this several times before and not just in DW 8. Sometimes you don't have to go through all the steps exactly, but then again sometimes you have to repeat them once or twice.

  • Unix script for checking the user account status

    Hi All,
    i have created one unix script to check the status of the user in diff databases.
    #!/bin/ksh
    useracctreport.txt if [ ! -f hh ];
    then
    echo "Database file does not exist"
    fi
    echo "Enter Username"
    read USER
    echo "Enter the password"
    stty -echo
    read PASS
    stty echo
    for j in `cat users`
    do
    j="`echo $j| tr '[a-z]' '[A-Z]'`"
    for i in `cat hh`
    do
    sqlplus -s $USER/$PASS\@$i <<EOF >> useracctreport.txt
    column USERNAME format a8
    column ACCOUNT_STATUS format a5
    !echo "*****User $j Status in $i DB*****"
    select USERNAME,ACCOUNT_STATUS from dba_users where username=('$j');
    select OBJECT_TYPE,count(*) from dba_objects where owner='$j' group by object_type;
    EOF
    done
    done
    In log file ,i get the below error when its unable to connect to the DB.
    SP2-0306: Invalid option.
    Usage: CONN[ECT] [logon] [AS {SYSDBA|SYSOPER}] | [INTERNAL]

    Is there any way i can supress this error?
    and is there any other way i can make this script faster.Thanks a lot for your help

    Hi,
    The failing line is
    sqlplus -s $USER/$PASS\@$i <<EOF >> useracctreport.txtYou should test the connect statement you provide to sqlplus. For example:
    CONSTRING=$USER/$PASS\@$i
    echo Connect string used: $CONSTRING
    sqlplus -s $CONSTRING <<EOF >> useracctreport.txtCheck the echoed value. It's malformed. Correct it appropriately.
    Yoann.

  • How to find Oracle script in the database

    Hi,
    I've an Oracle instance with Fine Grained Auditing (FGA).
    In this DB was created a series of policies and now I want to find the scripts created for insert it in another database.
    for example:
    dbms_fga.add_policy (
    .....................How can I find this SQL script from this database?
    I have also export dmp file
    Must I use TOAD for export the objects?
    Thanks in advance!

    you'll need to use datapump export/import for this, see the example below:
    Create fga policy TEST_POLICY on table scott.emp
    SQL> exec dbms_fga.add_policy(object_schema => 'SCOTT',object_name => 'EMP',policy_name => 'TEST_POLICY');
    Show fga policy in the db
    SQL> select * from DBA_AUDIT_POLICIES where policy_name = 'TEST_POLICY';
    OBJECT_SCHEMA                  OBJECT_NAME                    POLICY_OWNER
    POLICY_NAME                    POLICY_TEXT          POLICY_COLUMN                  PF_SCHEMA
    PF_PACKAGE                     PF_FUNCTION                    ENA SEL INS UPD DEL AUDIT_TRAIL  POLICY_COLU
    SCOTT                          EMP                            OPS$ORACLE
    TEST_POLICY
                                                                  YES YES NO  NO  NO  DB+EXTENDED  ANY_COLUMNS
    Now export the metadata for the objects
    [oracle@mr-blonde 11.2.0]$ expdp / dumpfile=testpolicy.dmp directory=DATA_PUMP_DIR content=METADATA_ONLY SCHEMAS='OPS$ORACLE,SCOTT'
    Export: Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Mar 29 11:22:25 2010

  • Installation problem with NW'04 SR1: database connection failed

    Hi all,
    while installing NW '04 SR1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and MS SQL Server 2000 SP4 I ran into an error related to the database connection. While performing the step "Load Java Database content" SAPinst crashes with the message
    com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Could not load class com.ddtek.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver.
    The connection to the SLQ Server with e.g. the Query Analyzer is OK. I had a problem with this installation setup before (have a look at the corresponding <a href="https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=338638&tstart=0">thread</a> ), the JDBC drivers where missing on the installation master but after copying them in the right direction the installation went on with no problem up to this point...
    Has anybody an idea what could have happened here? Is this maybe a problem connected to the one I recently had
    Below I attached the sapinst.log and jload.log with more detailed messages.
