Script to Export and Import Keywords and Metadata

I have a requirement to mass upload and download keywords and various metadata fields (i.e. File Name, Date Created, City, Country, Document, Title, etc.) into an external database from the Adobe Bridge. Ideally it would be compatible to .txt, .csv, etc type of database format. Currently I have to accomplish this task one at a time. I have an immediate need to upload 1000 plus pictures and various text fields into my website to share with others and be able to sell my pictures online.
My immediate is for exporting the metadata and keywords.
Does anyone know of a script that is aavailable?
Arnold

John,
Thanks for your quick response. Below is the script I just modified this morning. When looking in the keyword field, it returns the word "undefined" for all records.
I tried that yesterday and it didn't work. When looking at the Advance file info on Adobe Bridge I see the below format which had 2 levels. All the others I used only had one. Since I am not a programmer, I need help on that part of the script.

EXIF Properties (exif,http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/)

Any luck on determining how to obtain file size.
Again thank you so much for supporting me on my project,
Arnold

    Ian,
So, in other words, you're saying that it's not possible to export directly objects (like smart albums) that reside outside of projects?
I know, for example, you can "export" anything created inside a folder by dragging and dropping the folder to another library; but you then have to rebuild the library to get the new folder and its contents to be recognized. For my library, this takes too much time to do.

  • How to export and import reports and presentations?

    Hi Guys,
how to export and import reports and presentations from Analyzer 7.2 to Web Analysis 11.1.1.
Can you plz tell me the procedure.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Like I mentioned earlier, you can export documents and presentations to local computers and/or mapped drives.
    - Exported documents take ARD extension & presentations take APT extension.
To export the current document, select File, then Export, then Current Document. In the Save dialog box, indicate your local drive/network location to which the file is to be saved and click OK.
I believe- Analyzer 7.2 also has the wizard to let you Export docs. & Presentations.

  • Export and import "keywords" in bridge

Is it possible to "move keywords and comments" from one collection of images (directory) to another on a different computer?
We have a collection of images (about 1000 RAW files - about 50 GB) where a client have enclosed comments and keywords in Bridge on their copy of the collection. Is there som way to "transport" these comments and keywords form their "collection" to ours (without copying the collection once more)? The two "collections" are supposed to be identical except for these comments. Any ideas?

What you could do it save the fields to a csv file, see..

  • Can Aperture import keywords and ratings from Lightroom?

Decided to download the Aperture trial, and imported 17,000 images without a problem until I realised that my keywords and star ratings are missing (and even some vertical shots are horizontal).
Is there a way to get Aperture to look at the sidecar files generated by Lightroom? Without that I'm unlikely to use Aperture for anything other than books that iPhoto can't do.
    Thanks,
    Nigel

    Unfortunately, no.
It might be possible by use of AppleScript (the script would need to parse the XML files and put this data into Aperture), but this would not be trivial to write and to the best of my knowledge nobody has done it.
It's a shame, as Aperture can export XMP sidecar files so LR will pick up Aperture ratings and keywords (but not adjustments) just fine.

  • LR2 and importing keywords from CS3 Bridge

I've just started a 30 day LR trial and need some guidance, please, on successfully importing keywords from CS3 Bridge so that the complete heirarchy survives intact.
I've just imported the keywords to LR2 and found the heirarchy is mostly destroyed.
Also, Bridge allows you put a keyword inside "[ ]"  (square brackets) if you want/need that word in the heirarchy but do not want it to be copied to the metadata.  After importing to LR2, all the square brackets have gone.
I've imported some photos into LR2 but, when I look at their keywords, all the words which were within square brackets (and so not visible in the metadata in Bridge) are now visible in the metadata in LR2.
Anyone found a solution to this, please?  I really don't want to have to re-keyword everything if there's another way.
    Thanks,  John Walmsley

    Ginger
I ran a test for you. Started up my old computer that has windows XP OS. Took a photo and added a keyword by right clicking as your previous post outlined. I then looked at photo in Bridge CS3 on old machine. There was no keyword. Copied to flash drive and looked at photo on Vista computer with Bridge CS3. Still no keyword. Ran a search on Vista advanced for keyword on flash drive, and it gave a hit.
So my conclusion is that the keyword is there, but Bridge does not read the XP generated keyword. It will read a keyword generated by same method in Vista. Don't know what else to suggest. Don't have CS4 so do not know it that works or not.
Perhaps with these clues someone else can figure it out.
    Good luck

  • Exporting and importing projects and DCs

We are not blessed with the JDI, and I am in a situation whereby I would like to take a project from one machine and import it into another.
I tried this by exporting to a ZIP file, but when I try to import it, I have to create a new project in the target system, then import the ZIP file into that. When I do that it does not seem to preserve the original structure of the project.
I noticed that there are many different formats in which the projects can be exported. Do any of these allow me to export the project and import it, preserving the internal structure of the project, ideally without creating a project in the target system first?
    Kind Regards,
    Tony.

If you are working with the same version of Developer Studio on both PCs you can just copy the whole file structure of the project from your workspace to the workspace of the other PC.
Then, in developer studio of the second PC, choose "import existing project", and browse to the root folder of the project.
This should work, but keep in mind that eventually you will face versioning problems as you will make changes on both PCs...

  • How can I import keywords and albums from iphoto 5?

I have new imac with iPhoto 7.1. I'd like to import the keywords and albums along with the pics from my old imac and iphoto 5. Photos import, but not tags or albums. Any suggestions?

    Roy
The trick is not to import, but to update.
Copy the library from the old mac to the new one, then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. Select 'Choose Library' and point iPhoto at this old one and it will update it to a v7 library, including albums and keywords.
If you already have a new library on your new machine, then use iPhoto Library Manager to merge them or to move the pics from the older to the newer.

  • Import keywords and ratings into Aperture from adobe apps?

    Hi,
I'm currently using adobe bridge/ps2/pse etc as my main apps. I use keywords and ratings extensively.
When I import my photos into aperture, will I also be able to keep my current ratings/keyword tagging?
    Thanks.

I also used Bridge/ACR to rate and add keywords to RAWS (Canon) and also used Adobe DNG converter to make DNG files from these.
No ratings or keywords have imported for any RAWs and DNGs. And, for some DNG files (which I can see in Bridge and iViewMedia), they cannot be displayed in Aperture. It's very strange since I've used the same workflow to create the DNG files over the past year. Some can be imported/viewed, some cannot be viewed. All originally from the same camera/RAW file. I've read in this forum that Aperture cannot read things like keywords from sidecar files.
I am hopeful that Apple will make DNG sidecar file import a big priority.

  • IPhoto deleted important keywords and over 1000 tags!

I have an extensive list of keywords and two of my most used keywords have suddenly disappeared, along with the tagging of the photos! Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a way to get my hours of tagging work back?

    sallingqueen:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The tip at the end of my signature may help to resurrect the library in case this happens again.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Need script to export Indesign to word and keep word index codes

    Hi,
I have a document and the index was created by importing word docs with indexentries. Now the client wants to revise the book and wants the text converted back to Word, but he wants to keep the orginal word index codes. Is that possible? Exporting as tagged text results in showing the index codes, but also much other codes which are not needed.
Would be greatfuull for some tips, or preferable a script that does the trick.
    kind regards

What were you going to do with this Tagged Text file? That's only good for re-importing it back into InDesign.
Anyway, it doesn't require a script at all. I had the clever idea of testing this, and indeed: index entries in InDesign are exported in RTF.

  • Export iPhoto 5 keywords to Metadata

Since I no longuer have confidence in iPhoto I would like to export my photo's including the date and keywords in the metadata of the images.
Did somebody find a way to do that?

The only way I know of getting your keywords into the actual files is to use iView MediaPro and the following process that I worked out:
Steps to Move from a totally iPhoto Image Management System to an iViewMedia Pro System.
This method will permit you to bring over your image files, keywords, comments, rolls and album organization into a new folder system totally managed by iView Media Pro.
1 - Launch iView and create a new catalog file.
2 - Go into the Thumbnail size menu (the arrow at the far right on the top bar of the Thumbnail window and select the size of the thumbnail you want created. If you import at too small size then you’ll have to do a Rebuild Item to get them larger for viewing. It’s best to pick the largest size you think you’ll need. However the larger the thumbnail size the larger the catalog file size will be.
3 - Select the ”iView Media->Getting Started...” menu and the Import iPhoto Library option.
4 - iView will open iPhoto and immediately begin importing the photos from the iPhoto Library folder in the Pictures folder. If you have multiple libraries it will catalog the last library opened.
4 - Once the importing is complete save the catalog.
5 - You will notice you will have Catalog Sets for each album in your iPhoto library. These do not get saved backto the original image file so create a category for each Set and drag the photos in the set onto the Category bar. This will assign that Category to the picture. Do a Save.
6 - Now select all the photos in the catalog and select the Action->Sync Annotations menu item. In the next window click on the “Export annotations to original files option”. When complete do another Save.
The next steps are designed to copy the photos out of the iPhoto Library folder into a folder system that is similar to what you see in iPhoto, i.e. a new folder for each roll.
7 - Open a roll and select all of the photos inside. (if you’ve edited any photos and want to export the originals instead of the edited version select the File->Revert to Original menu option beforename).
8 - Then select the Share->Export menu item. Click of the File Export tab and the Full -size images radio button.
9 - If you’ve changed any of the titles of the photos in iPhoto you should click on the Use Title radio button so your files will retain than name when exported.
10 - Export those files to a folder on the desktop that’s been named the same as the roll. Then place that roll where you ultimately will want to keep it. (I suggest you create a folder to contain all of the newly created folders and name it appropriately).
11 - repeat Step 10 for each roll in your library.
    12 - Close iPhoto.
You now have all of your new “rolls” in a overall container folder.
The next steps are designed to create a new iView catalog file based on your new folder system.
12 - Open iView and create and save a new catalog file. Give it a appropriate name and save whereever you want to keep it permanently.
13 - Again make sure your thumbnail size is selected to the maximum size you think you’ll need.
14 - Drag the folder containing your “roll” folders into the new catalog’s thumbnail window and start the cataloging process. When it’s done do a Save.
You now have a catalog with the same keywords that you have in iPhoto and Categories representing the albums that you had in iPhoto.
Once you comfirm that you have all of your photos safely in the new folder system and catalog you can delete your iPhoto Library folder. If you need to create a book at sometime you can create a Category or Catalog Set just for that project and add photos to it. Then create a new iPhoto library just for that book and drag the photos from the thumbnail window of that Category or Catalog Set into the new library window. Now you can create the book unencoumbered by
