SCSM 2012 Forms (related items tab)

Hi,
We are using SCSM in our Production environment. I have a question about the "Select Object" function on Related Items Tab. When we click on Add button on Related Items Tab under (lets say) "Configuration Items: Computer, Services and
People" section, it opens a "Select Objects" dialog box with a list of option. Some of these options are not useful to us as we are not using them or may not plan to use in future. For example under the "Select Objects" dialog
box the‘object type’ list contains Database twice (as well as another option as Databases) which makes it difficult to search for the appropriate Database CI. Is there a way the "non used" option can be removed from this drop down list?
Please advise. Any help will be appreciated.

You would have to write your own dialog box. It is called a LaunchAddInstancePickerDialog (found in Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.ServiceManager.Application.dll). You can tell it to provide a list based on a type (ex. Config Item) and a selected class (ex.
computers). And that is just one of the overloads.
You would then have to replace the button which triggers the dialog. Also not too difficult. I think
this post by Rob Ford is actually the best reference (I can find as of now).
If you haven't coded before this is massive undertaking. I you have, then it is advantageous to have C# experience. And still you should expect hours of Work to wrap your head around this.

Populating configuration items: Computers, Services and People under Related Items tab in Computer CI form

Hi,
We have integrated SCCM and SCOM with SCSM to import the CI information in CMDB.
We are able to import few CI information from SCCM regarding softwares, OS, etc and from SCOM regarding hardware and discovered objects.
When we open the Computer CI in SCSM, we are able to relate almost all the fields from SCCM and SCOM expect Related items tab.
The Configuration Items: Computers, Services and People are empty under related items tab on Computer CI form.
Kindly please help me to understand regarding this related items tab.

The Related Items is not automatically populated by any out-of-box connector. You can manually add related configuration items there. What were you expecting to show up under this section?

Manually adding AD user or Group mail address in SCSM 2012 R2 Configuration item

Hi ,
Since in our AD environment some of the AD user's mail Id attribute is null, I added the
smtp mail Address value in SCSM 2012 R2 user configuration item ,
After the AD connector synchronization, the manually entered mail Id is removed. I have also checked the property
do not write null values for the property not set in AD in the Connector properties
But still , the manually entered mail id is removed by SCSM
so is it not the correct way to add mail id manually ???

The mail Id property is required for mail notification feature in our environment

the long and short of this is that the AD connector is behaving as designed and correcting values in SCSM from the authoritative source in AD.
The connector should not be blanking values with that checkbox set. are you sure AD is actually
Null, and not either an empty string or white-space characters? Can you reproduce this with other users? Might be worth reporting this if there is actually a bug in the connector.
Why wouldn't you set the Mail attribute in AD? there isn't any good reason for this to be null.

Editing Request Form - SCSM 2012 - Have an item span two StackPanels

I'm finding this to be near impossible, perhaps someone out there can help.
I'm trying to add a 'List Picker' object to my Service Request Form. The Default form looks like this (just for reference):
And I'm trying to shuffle Urgency and Priority down, while leaving Source where it is. I've managed to get a visual mockup so you can see below:
The problem is that I can't find a way to have the new list picker span two stack panels. I can have it easily span one stack panel (the middle, or the leftmost work fine) but it limits it to expanding only within that stack panel. I can adjust the margins
so that the list picker does span the entire width of the form at a fixed width, but if the user scales the form on the machine they are running the console on, everything looks horrible.
Anyone have any idea how to get a list picker (or an additional panel object) spanning two Stack Panels so that everything scales properly?

Hi Eli,
You are correct, the SR form does not have Stack Panels, like the IR form does. This does make the customizations much more difficult. When I added a field to the SR form, I just used the Authoring Tool and it was a bit challenging to get the
positioning correct. You could always create a new tab and implement a custom control that would allow you to put in some Stack Panels. I agree, the SR and IR forms are built differently.

SCSM 2012 - Deleting deleted items

I have never deleted the items held in the Deleted Items folder.
There are currently 10008 configuration items in there. I have always been a bit worried about deleting these, I'm not sure if I will lose details of the incidents logged for those users who have left the company, if I can still get them back
from the datawarehouse reporting then no problem.
Am i best to delete all these items? could it cause any impact on performance if I just leave them?

Once you delete those objects, all relationships from those in the CMDB are lost. If the information is already transfered to the DWH, the information stays there and can still be accessed.

Reporting Tab is not showing in SCSM 2012 SP1 Console

I'm working with SCSM 2012 SP1. But after installing data ware house only "DataWareHouse" tab appares no "Reporting" tab. And it shows below MSG:
And only the below reporting management pack are available in the Data Ware House >> Management pack area.
I already check data warehouse server 'System Center Data Access Service' and 'SQL Server reporting Service', borth are running. But still 'Reporting' tab is not there.

At last I solve the problem. THere is 2 solution for resolve the issue.
Force start all warehouse job.
Un register and reregistared DataWareHouse againg.
In my case I do the borth after reregister datawarehouse I wait 1hr after that I manualy start the warehouse jobs. And it works for me.

Field 'Goods Receipt / Performance of Service' in 'Related Documents' Tab of PO Item in SRM

Hi Gurus,
I have a requirement where I need to make 'Goods Receipt / Performance of Service' in 'Related Documents' Tab as non-editable based on certain fields on the PO Item.
On searching SDN, I found that this can be done via SPRO in the below path SPRO->SRM Server->Cross application basic settings->Extension and field Control -> Configure field control -> configure control for fields at item level.
But here in this I am finding difficulty on using the Dyn. Customer Class and method.
Please help us on how to find the relevant standard CLass and Method.
I am new to SRM Programming.

SAP Implementation Guide > SAP Supplier Relationship Management > SRM Server > Cross-Application Basic Settings > Extensions and Field Control (Personalization) > Configure Field Control > Display Standard Metadata Tables for Item Fields > Display Delivered Metadata Table for Item Fields.
Here, for object type BUS2201, you can see standard dynamic control class name is /SAPSRM/CL_PDO_DYN_MDF_IT_PO.
You need to do your own field control configuration using specific class and method based on the standard one seen above.
Then, assign this class/method:
SAP Implementation Guide > SAP Supplier Relationship Management > SRM Server > Cross-Application Basic Settings > Extensions and Field Control (Personalization) > Configure Field Control > Configure Control for Fields on Item Level > Metadata for Fields on Item Level.

Upgrade item(Related Item) not appearing in LOV in Modifier form

I am using EBS 11i
I am looking to setup a promotional upgrade modifier(itemA with itemB).I have setup the item relationship in Inventory as Promotional upgrade.Still the related item is not appearing in the Promotional upgrades upgrade item field in modifier form. Type of modifier am using is Promotion.
am i missing any further setups?. Kindly help

SCSM 2012 UR3 - "The Full adapter threw an exception" error when viewing "Deleted Items" view

Has anyone expereinced the "The Full adapter threw an exception" eror in the SCSM 2012 console?
We get the error in both our dev and production environments when trying to view the "Deleted Items" view in the console (even after using powershell to remove all deleted iterms). As just noted, interestingly enough we can view, delete, and restore
deleted items using the corresponding Powershell commands. It should be noted that neither of our two SCSM 2012 environments has a registered data warehouse server. Below is a screen shot of the error as well as the associated error text and event
log errors.
Any help would be greatly apprecaited!

SCSM 2012 Change form issue - Scheduled start and end times default to 12:00:00

I have a report that the Change Form in SCSM 2012 is not allowing users to set the scheduled start and end times. The date stays correct, but the time reverts back to 12:00:00, and the user has to save to the initial form, then re-open and
change the times.
I checked in the authoring tool, the time/date field is set to full date and time. (I think these are custom fields)
I am not sure where else to look to adjust any settings as needed.

Is this situation on all consoles or few ones? Check the time format on the user's PC. 24h or 12h could affect the DateTime control's behavior.

Making a field on the SCSM 2012 Change form a required field?

I've got an oldie but a goodie...
Are there any good instructions / example articles, for how to make a field mandatory?
I understand I need to use Visual Studio to create a control. From here I need to make a DLL and bundle it in an Management Pack Bundle. Then I have to Bind the control to the field.
A few important pieces of information. I first opened Visual Studio 3 days ago. I have no idea how to use VS. I barely found where the DLL is "built". I gave up serious coding in '93. I not bad at PowerShell and Bash.
Never used VB or C#. (Honestly, if Rob Ford's Blog didn't have screenshots I never would have figured out to use VS2010 or how to add the reference Assemblies.)

Do I need a new control for each field or can I re-use the control for other fields?
Why wasn't a Standard Control added to SCSM2012 to require an entry in a field? OOTB, Incidents have mandatory fields, so can I re-use that control in other forms. All we need is to require the user to include certain
fields before submitting a Change Request.

Once you have a single custom control loaded onto your form it can do everything that you require. Not just validation rules, but anything you need it to do. For example, I have done form customisations purely via a custom control.
Why wasn't a Standard Control added to SCSM2012 to require an entry in a field?
The standard forms are WPF forms and their validation rules are hard-coded in the XAML and C# that make up the forms.
To find which DatePicker you need, look at it in the Authoring Tool to see its Name or use Snoop from here:

You can hover over the console and see the control names, although, sometimes, it is a bit unstable with the SCSM console.

User receives error when trying to access queues in SCSM 2012. Also cannot edit activities.

I am trying to resolve an issue that a user has been struggling with in SCSM 2012 multiple times now. Everytime he tries to access a queue in the work items this error appears about 5 times:

After closing out all of the errors, the tasks panel no longer has any options.
Also, when this user opens an activity, there is a red box outlining the form. He is unable to click 'OK' or 'Apply' even though the activity is In Progress. This means he is unable to make any changes to activity forms. I logged on to the user's compluter
myself to see if this issue would just apply to him and I ended up with the same issues. This user experienced these issues before and switched to a new device where he no longer experienced these problems for a while. Now the issues have returned and I do
not know how to help him. We have not had this problem come up before.
Please help me understand what is causing these problems.

You were correct to assume that I was referring to a View. All of our users have been added to a standard user role that providers that basic functionalities that they need. This particular user's access is exactly the same as the other users in his department,
yet he is the only one who has experienced this problem. All of the user roles that we have added this user to contain at least 10 other users who have not reported any issue like this.
I am wodering how this problem could only apply to this one user even after changing devices. I should also mention that with each of the devices that this user has worked on, there was a period of time when he was able to work in SCSM without
any issues. What could have changed that caused this error to arrise on two separate occasions for just one user?
The biggest issue is the fact that he is unable to edit activities. Am I correct to assume that these two issues are connected?

Options for monitoring health of SCSM 2012 SP1 using SCOM 2012 SP1

I've done some research on how to monitor SCSM using SCOM (version 2012 SP1 for both) and found two options:
Option 1 - Agent-based monitoring. With SCSM2012 SP1, it looks as though the agent is
already present (for upgrades and also for fresh installs). So it follows that SCOM will be able to monitor the health of SCSM.
Option 2 - Agentless monitoring. On the Technet
download page, 'System Requirements' section indicates compatibility with SCOM 2012 and above, and SCSM 2012 and above. Details tab says the following (emphasis mine):
This System Center Management Pack for System Center 2012 - Service Manager should be used to monitor
System Center 2012 - Service Manager, System Center 2012 R2 - Service Manager
and includes monitors for the management server as well as the Data Warehouse server. In this release of the management pack, the Data Access Service, Health Service, Configuration Service, and workflows are monitored.
So it looks like both options are viable, but I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences of using one vs. the other. Is there any major difference in the information that's provided by agentless vs. agent-based monitoring, or are they just two
different ways of pulling the exact same information into SCOM?
Edit: Just occurred to me that SP1 isn't explicitly mentioned in the Technet article linked above under option 2. Has anyone successfully used agentless monitoring on SP1?

Performance issue SCSM 2012 R2

We have SCSM 2012 R2 (no RU), we have a performance issue, when we set implemener for Manual Activity and press OK, CPU utilization raises to 25-30% for 1,5 minutes and during this period console is not working. What can be a reason of it? On the SQL Servers
(CMDB) there are enough resources, servers are virtual (cluster mode). How can we investigate this issue? SCSM is not used in the production yet.
Disabled 4 subscriptions for manual activity, but did not help.

In the UR2/UR3 of SCSM 2012 R2 is a console performance fix. You should consider to install the latest UR and give it a try again.

We installed UR3 today and problem is not solved, also we defined problem more clear, it happens when we specify user AD login without pressing check button even.... also same problem when we press "..."button to find AD users. So problem not when
we save MA, it is related to searching AD users. SQL servers have 8 cores each, cluster mode, enough free space. "Users" tab shows ~57 000 user accounts.

Cancelled contract lines are populating in the SR form's subject tab when clicking on 'Get Contracts' button. But user says, it should not be populated. What could be the reason? Please suggest.
I have told the user :
"In the case of a renewed contract, if the service request is logged during the effectivity of the original contract (which is now Expired), the original contract will be retrieved. If the service request is logged during the effectivity of the renewal contract then only the renewal contract will be retrieved.
Contract Entitlement on Subject tab is based on Contract Start and End dates. All the contracts i.e. expired, active, cancelled will appear until the end date. As we can see the contract ES-10165 is end dated on 09-DEC-2014, hence it will appear on the subject tab as per the functionality."
But the User is saying:
"Contract coverage is clear to be based on dates, and that is quite clear to me as well… the problem comes with the different statuses.
A SR can be associated to an “EXPIRED” contract line because the SR creation date could be falling between coverage line start and end dates, but can never be related to a “CANCELLED” line.
This “CANCELLED” status means that the line is not valid for the contract, so if it is not valid for a contract, it is not valid for referencing a job…and this is only creating wrong costs associations."

Hi Sudhakar,
Drop inline message components for each of the textFields and the textArea and then run the application. You could also use a message list component but inline message components for each of the input components would give you a clear idea if any errors are occuring. In case any such errors are indeed occuring then the situation can be analysed further.
