SCVMM Default Virtual Machine Path - CSV

I am having an issue where SCVMM is dropping the default virtual machine path from the host leaving a blank setting (none).
Below is my setup:
3 Win2K8R2SP1 host clustered
CSV used mapped to C:\ClusterStorage\<lunname>\
I add in the default path C:\ClusterStorage\<lunname>\ when I add the host to SCVMM then turn off placement for all other local drives
The default path stays in the configuration and is listed for placement until the host are either refershed on a automated basis or I manually choose the refresh host job.  After the refresh I see the change from vpaths to (none).
This is causing issue with a deployment wizard from Citrix for default virtual machine placement, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
EDIT:
Sorry forgot to menito I am using SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 as well.

You can select  option "Make this virtual machine highly available" will  store VMs
in CSV,
If you are creating new VM from an Existing VM template , you have to choose the same option and  in
"Select Destination"  Wizard  Choose - "Place the Virtual Machine on a Host"
This will help you to to save Your VMs in to CSV...

  • 8.1 Update 1 - Can't set up a default Virtual Machine.

Am trying to set-up a virtual machine on 64bit Surface Pro 2 system using Hyper-V Manager but after clicking Finish to create a default VM the New
VM Wizard displays a window stating:
The Virtual Machine Management service encountered an error while configuring the hard disk on virtual machine New Virtual Machine.
Failed to create the virtual hard disk.
    The system failed to create
    C:\users\public\documents\\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Discs\New Virtual Machine.vhdx
Originally, before setting the machine back to factory settings, I had got past this point creating a WindowsXP VM but was unable to edit the default VM
so decided to go back to factory settings. Whilst applying 8.1 updates I found I had now got 8.1 Update 1  - then moving on to setting up VM I got the above error.
Having almost zero Windows experience beyond XP some advice would be greatly appreciated.
I see two options, one to go back to a USB system image 8.1 upgrade 1 or
revert to 8.1 recovery factory image

    Hi Elton Ji,
Went back to factory reset, set updates to be downloaded but not installed, setup a default VM after which there was a message stating a firmware update was needed and also 45 Windows Updates.
I expected to get the usual
screen listing the updates waiting installation so they could be selected by reference to the list from the URL from Shawn "Cmdr" Keene [MVP]
Unfortunately no list appeared! The firmware update & all 45 updates were all immediately installed. Having compared the sequence of the updates installed with the recommended  5 listed - only KB2919442 was listed as installed at 8th in the sequence.
With my earlier setup being 8.1 Update1
where had 2919355, 2932046, 2937592 & 2938439 gone? At that stage no more updates were waiting download.
Thought I would set everything back using System Restore - there being only one restore point showing - but after restoring back there was no comment in the historical Update Sequence that anything had been set back.
So I need to establish how to manage the update sequence. Did the firmware update fail to hand back to the manual installation - if indeed there is an
    list for update selection.
Meantime I'm going back to factory reset - hopefully for the last time -  and haltat
    the firmware update point.
Will ask about controlling update sequence with Shawn "Cmdr" Keene [MVP]

  • No longer able to view virtual machine from Hyper-V Manager

From the Windows 2008 R2 host machine, I can run the Hyper-V Manager and 'connect' to the Virtual Machine.  The window pops up with nothing but a gray background (clearly the same gray background of the log in screen), but no 'ctrl-alt-delete' prompt

    Hi,
I never seen this issue before, base on my experience, it may cause by your AV soft block some critical components of Hyper-V host, please try the following exclude specific
directories or process with your AV soft.
•Default virtual machine configuration directory (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V)
    •Custom virtual machine configuration directories
•Default virtual hard disk drive directory (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks)
•Custom virtual hard disk drive directories
•Custom replication data directories, if you are using Hyper-V Replica
    •Snapshot directories
•Vmms.exe (Note: This file may have to be configured as a process exclusion within the antivirus software.)
•Vmwp.exe (Note: This file may have to be configured as a process exclusion within the antivirus software.)

  • Hyper-V - 'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'

    Hi all,
    Having a bit of a nightmare with Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro laptop - Whenever I create a new VM and try to start it I receive the following error;
'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'
I sometimes also receive an error saying something along the lines of 'Unable to change virtual machine state'
I have done a lot of searching a seen two common answers - The first is to try removing the Hyper-V role and re-adding it - I have tried this several times to no avail. (Intel VT and all virtualisation capabilities are enabled in BIOS). The second issue
    it would seem
some people have had relates to editing the VMX configuration file and adding the line
hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE" - I thought VMX files were only present in VMware Virtual Machines...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    James

The hypervisor event log message is generated only at boot - so this would be expected.  Also vmbus should not be running on the host (I was looking at a VM yesterday)...  This error message is generated only when the vid is determined not to be
running or cannot communicate with the hypervisor.
I have seen this due to anti-virus software in the past or due to driver verifier being configured.  Since it looks like you checked driver verifier already do you have anti-virus software installed?  If so have you followed the best practices
    and exempted the Hyper-v services?
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd283088(WS.10).aspx
To resolve this problem, configure the real-time scanning component within your antivirus software to exclude the following directories and files:
Default virtual machine configuration directory (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V)
    Custom virtual machine configuration directories
Default virtual hard disk drive directory (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks)
Custom virtual hard disk drive directories
Custom replication data directories, if you are using Hyper-V Replica
    Snapshot directories
Vmms.exe (Note: This file may have to be configured as a process exclusion within the antivirus software.)

  • Attachment to a running virtual machine failed

I get the error message "Attachment to a running virtual machine failed" when trying to instantiate my active x bundled java bean.
The steps I took to create it are:
    javac Person.java
    jar -cvfm PersonBean.jar person_manifest Person.class
    set JRE=D:\Applications\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_01
    set classpath=%JRE%\lib\rt.jar;%JRE%\lib\jaws.jar
    java sun.beans.ole.Packager
Then I answered the questions on the packager.
When I try to create the bean from inside my application, I get an error dialog with the title "Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4 Fatal Error".
When I try to create MSCal.Calendar in my application, all is well.
    Anyone know what is happening?

If you run the packager, try not to register the
newly created type library (*.TLB) immediately,
but let the packager create the registry instructions
    (a *.REG file).
Look at the *.REG file and check all references to
virtual machines. Since you are using the packager
from 1.3.1, probably the virtual machine (path for beans.ocx etc) points to the 1.3.1 JRE instead of the
    1.4 plugin.
Make sure, all references to the virtual machine are
linked correctly to 1.4 and reregister your TLB.
Hope that helps and please let us know if you were
successful, as this would indicate that indeed, beans
packaged with the packager from 1.3.1 can run in the
    1.4 plugin. Sylvia

  • Where my virtual machines are stored?

    Hi
When i do install a new virtual machine on hyper- v where is it stored?
so can I copy this virtual machine file and use it in another hyper-v machine?
    thanks?
It's stored where you point at. If you did not do much that would be default location. See:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/05/06/managing-the-default-virtual-machine-location-with-hyper-v.aspx
Sure you can move VM to another host. Just make sure you don't boot both VMs @ the same time as that's a license violation. About migration see:

FYI.  I've had the same issue after I installed Update Rollup 3 (KB2965413), seeing the exact same error on event log.  Tried to start the service manually, getting service unable to start error.  This is a machine running
with Windows Server 2012 Standard.  Solution for me is simple. I just install
KB2965414 (Update Rollup 3 for SCVMM 2012 R2), reboot the server, and the SCVMM service auto start up by itself.

  • SCOM 2012 RC - SCVMM 2012 RC - Virtual machine manager management group is not getting monitored

    Hi All,
I have integrated SCOM 2012 with SCVMM 2012 environment. I could see two strange behaviors. All these instance are running on Windows 2008 R2 + Sp1 OS along with SQL 2008 R2 for database.
    1) I could see two instance of VirtualmanagerDB
in the Database State view under the Microsoft SQL Server, out of that
one is showing as monitored and another one is
showing as not monitored. Why it is showing two instance of the same database? How can I remove the not monitored one?
    2) In the distributed apps- Virtual machine manager management group is not showing as a monitored item. However the SCVMM server is getting monitored.
I'd appreciate if someone could help me out in understanding and resolving this.
    Regards,
    Ren.

    Hi
I opened up a connect ticket on this on 17th Jan so sorry for not noticing your post earlier. The response was:
Health State dashboard view is targeted to two state views. "Agent Watcher State" and "Agent State". "Agent State" view (view with duplicate entry) is targeted to an abstract class "VMM Agent" which has below child classes.
        VMM Library Agent
        VMM Host Agent
        Guest Agent
For the Dashboard view, we need to taget the view to "Host Agent" not "VMM Agent". When we install VMM, it adds itself as a Library server and that is the reason for duplicate entry (VMM Library Agent).
    Cheers

  • Move Virtual Machine Storage stuck "Loading" CSVs

As I understand it the "Move Virtual Machine Storage" screen is supposed to enumerate the CSVs available to the cluster in the bottom left portion of the window.  It seems to be stuck on a "Loading..." status and never shows the

  • Unable o create an instance of the java virtual machine Located at path

I am installing oracle sql developer on Windows XP SP2
I have downloaded sqldeveloper-3.1.07.42 and extracted it.
when i double click sqldeveloper it shows dialog box
Unable o create an instance of the java virtual machine Located at path
    ..\..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
    and OK button
i have tried a solution posted on a site
1- Open the ide.conf file located under <Oracle SQL Developer>jdev\bin\
    2- Edit :
    AddVMOption -Xmx1024M
AddVMOption -Xmx256M or 512 MB change into 512 instead of 1024
it does not work for me
What is the cause & how to resolve it please help
I would be thankful to you guys

    Hi,
I've got the exact same problem when launching to JDeveloper.
And I've searched on internet for days.
I did try to modify the number of
    MaxPermSize in jdev.conf
    and
    Xmx and Xms in ide.conf
I've tried several combinations, and sometimes it works.
The disappoint fact is that even with the same combination of the settings, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it just work. Sometimes it doesn't...and after rebooting it works again......Sometimes even rebooting doesn't help.......Sometimes when change MaxPermSize to a smaller number it works...and next time it may not work again....Sometimes you change the MaxPermSize to some other number, save, and then change it back,,,,and it works again...but next time you try to use it, it may not work..........
I don't know what leads to these problems.....anyone could help? Thanks in advance....

  • SCOM/ SCVMM Integration - MonitoringObjectId in alert does not match the virtual machine GUID in SCVMM

I am importing alerts into a 3rd party application from SCOM 2012 R2 using the powershell code below. SCOM returns me MonitoringAlert objects, I need to map the alerts to the virtual machines in SCVMM. However, the MonitoringAlert.MonitoringObjectId value

  • Migrate virtual machine from one cluster to another 2012 r2 SCVMM

The process of migrating a virtual machine from one cluster to another involves deleting the source vm/vhd/vhdx files. Is there a way to keep these files on the source after the migration is complete? We want to keep the files there just in case there

  • Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter VMware To Hyper-V Cluster

I'm not sure if this should technically be in the clustering section but I have just moved from SCVMM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 and I kinda miss the built-in converter tool. What I used to do when converting VMware to Hyper-V was uninstall VMware Tools and then
I would do a physical to virtual conversion on the VMware virtual machine and SCVMM would handle copying the virtual machine while it was online and register it in our Hyper-V cluster. Now, the only thing I could come up with is the Microsoft Virtual Machine
Converter but it seems rather limited and doesn't seem to have an option to import to a cluster. So is the only option to convert it over to Hyper-V as if it were a local machine and then run another export/import process to get it in the cluster? I tried
to point it to a CSV and while it copied the disk over, it registered the virtual machine in ProgramData (the default location). This obviously causes issues when trying to make the VM highly available. Any one have a suggested process of the best way to go
about this? Thank you in advance for your time!

So no matter what option I choose, V2V always shuts down the source VM during the conversion process. On the other hand, if I use the old method of uninstalling VMware tools manually and then doing a P2V instead, the source VM has to stay online for
that type of process. Then I just have to migrate it to become highly available and that seems to accomplish what I want. The only annoying part is that I couldn't run it on my Win 8.1 Pro workstation as it requires the BITS feature to be installed
and that only appears to be available on server editions (correct me if there is a way to get it on 8.1). I guess the documentation (I think) says that it should run on server editions only but V2V runs fine from 8.1 since it doesn't need BITS since it's
    an offline process.
