SD Card Partition

I have finally rooted my phone after stumbling upton low internal storage although i have a 32GB SD card, i would like to know what partiton size would i need to create to use the link2sd or app2sd so i cant move my apps over, i need to create another partition, what would you suggest i should create for a 32gb, 1gb or 2gb, or higher?
any help would be great.

I moved this thread to concerned sub forum. Hopefully you'll get some help here otherwise XDA might be worth checking as well.

  • Sd card partition problems

I have an Hp Envy laptop (Product number: E1P05AV). I recently partitioned an sd card I had so I could boot a recovery disc from it. It turned out that the boot menu didn't even have it listed. I know I didn't do something right with that, but that's not the problem. I decided to scratch that idea and return my sd card to normal. I used diskpart in the cmd to clean it of its partition. It worked and the sd card was back to unallocated space again, but something wasn't right. Whenever I would put the sd card in the slot, it would offer to format it. When I would go to format it, it would say that it couldn't complete the format. I found out that I couldn't use the sd card on my computer unless I redid the partition again. I can't even use another sd card unless it has the same partition properties as the first one. It's like the volume itself is stuck in the sd card slot. I hope this makes sense because it's hard to explain. It would be gratefully appreciated if someone could help me resolve this. Thanks in advance.

    Good Morning cck979,
    Thank you for your patience.
    SD Association
If you go to the above site and type format SD cards in the search bar you will locate a link to a formatter designed just for these cards.  This may help to alleviate the issue.
If that doesn't work, try this in command prompt as Administrator:
    1. Diskpart
    2. List Disk
    3. Select Disk 1 (Replace 1 with number reflecting your SD Card)
    4. clean
    5. create partition primary
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32 quick
    8. assign
Be sure to select the right disk number, you don't want to accidentally clean out one of your hard drives.
    I hope this has helped.

  • SD-card partitions only shown after starting gparted

    Hello,
I'm experiencing a really strange problem: Whenever I insert a SD-card into my USB-card-reader no partitions are shown in Dolphin. But when I start gparted the partitions will be shown in Dolphin. Does anyone know how to debug this problem?
Before gparted is started only /dev/sde is shown. After starting gparted  /dev/sde1 and /dev/sde2 are also shown.
    Regards
    Martin

many card readers don't notify the OS of media changes so the kernel does not know to check and re-read the partitions
this also happens for some card readers with click-in mechanism, if you put the card in without actually letting it "click" (which triggers the media change event)
card readers are weird that way but then you can get them for under $5 ... *shrug*
I also have the same issue with my (stone age) android smartphone... the PC sees two cardreaders as soon as you plug it in but the data on those cards is only available after you confirm it on the phone, and the PC does not really manage to update its mappings (/dev/disk/by-uuid and such) for the device when that happens, thus mounts fail [or wake up all other disks searching for the uuid] until you trigger reads from these devices some other way.
My workaround (for card readers) is simply... I unplug the entire reader whenever I switch cards... it's detected fine with the card already inside the reader as you plug it in.
Maybe there is a better solution - I haven't come across it yet.

  • PCI IDE Cards

I just got a good deal on a 320GB Seagate Barracuda HD. My only limitation is the 128GB limit my Mac sees it as.
    After looking here: http://lowendmac.com/macdan/05/1024.html
bI figured a PCI IDE card would be the best choice for my G3. So I could split it into 2 partitions with Panther on the first partition and 9 on the second.
My question is, are the PCI cards plug and play without drivers (like the hard drive) or do I need a "Mac-Specific" card or Mac drivers to use it with my hard drive?

The 128 GB limitation applies to the onboard IDE controller, and not to an ATA-133 controller card that supports 48-bit logical block addressing, which enables recognition of large drives. If connected to an ATA-133 controller card, partitioning the 320 GB drive is your choice, although I prefer to partition larger drives for the ease/speed of routine disk maintenance. The Acard AEC-6280M ATA-133 controller card for Macs is consistently priced lowest here.
Sonnet and SIIG also market Mac controller cards, but whichever brand that you choose to purchase, it must be the Mac version, because the PC versions of these cards aren't compatible. Bootable controller cards must be firmware-based and not driver-based. The card's ROM is read at boot, so that connected drive(s) are functional. If the controller card required a driver to be read from the hard drive, the sequence for doing so couldn't occur, because the hard drive isn't recognized until the controller card (to which it's connected) is recognized.

  • Sd card erased itself when using the windows 7 partition on bootcamp

I just recently set up bootcamp to benefit from some of the features on Windows 7. I followed the procedure and installed the WindowsSupport folder (part of the bootcamp process on an SD card - which was loaded with loads of other files).
I noticed a tricky part of the installation when the Windows 7 disc started to install in that Windows wouldn't install on the bootcamp partition because it wasn't NTFS format. I chose the option to convert the drive to NTFS and the installation completed fine.
I then opened the WindowsSupport folder that I had chosen to have installed on the SD card which contained the bootcamp software and drivers and started the 'setup' process which all looked to be going fine. Next thing I find is that the SD card is blanked and the bootcamp install software reported that it couldn't find the required .msi file.
The reason for this was that the SD card appeared blank. I then selected the option to scan and fix problems which didn't work and just hanged (so I cancelled it).
I am now faced with an SD card with some important data on it that is not recognised (not even registering as there) when put into the SD slot on MAC OSX Mountain Lion and when insterted on the Windows side it just says that it needs formatting (which I haven't done) in order to be usable.
THis all leaves me with a few questions if anyone can help:
1, Can I recover the files on the SD Card & if so, how do I do this when OSX doesn't even recognise the SD card anymore?
2, In my pursuit to complete bootcamp installation, if I were to install the windows support files again from the OSX partiiton, how do I prevent the files from being deleted again? i need to do this to complete the Windows 7 installation as I currently have only the very basic functions with no drivers etc.
3, I previously had an old Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion & Windows Vista and could leave the SD card in the drive and use files on both operating system. As Windows 7 is using NTFS, does this mean I risk having the SD card data deleted everytime I access something from the WIndows 7 side?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thx

That is the standard method, it is fully covered in the Boot Camp Directions.

How was the SD card formatted (and why did you not follow the Boot Camp Directions (use a USB thumb drive formatted as Fat32, or use a DVD)

The files have probably been lost, it was unwise to compound the choice of incorrect media by using media that had 'important data' on it.
1, Can I recover the files on the SD Card & if so, how do I do this when OSX doesn't even recognise the SD card anymore?
No idea, tell me what the format was and I may have a suggestion

The card must be formatted as FAT32, I would invest $10 in a USB thumb drive, it's cheap.
And I would read the Directions before doing anything else!

  • Error message with offer to download the 4.1.B.0.587 update and note: "installation not possible" (because it's already there) cannot partition SD card

Hi - Recently I put the latest update on my LT15i (4.1.B.0.587), after this I rooted the phone, and everything seemed okay. But since then I keep getting an error message with an offer to download the 4.1.B.0.587 update and the note: "installation not possible" (because it's already there). The news line on top shows a red exclamation mark all the time. It seems to me that it is due to this error that I cannot partition my SD card. Does anybody have an idea how to fix that? Thanks much in advance, and happy holidays - nerissa

  • How to use sd card drive on Windows 7 partition.

I have a 15" Mac Book Pro Model A1318 about a year old.  I am running Windows 7 on the partition and the SD Card will not recognize the card.  It works when running Mac Snow Leopard.

You use it the same way you do in Snow Leopard. How is the card formatted? If it is formatted for Snow Leopard then Windows can not use it.

  • How do I partition a disc with a raid card installed for fcp x and motion

    Hi,
I have just downloaded fcp x and purchased motion but have found out the drivers for my AJA io HD are not available as yet so decided to revert to FCP 6.5. My system now runs like a dog and then I discovered FCP x and Motion should be installed on a separete partition. I have a Raid card installed on my mac and the application disc disk does not enough space so do not know what I should do. Any help would be welcome.
    Noel

    Hi Mark spencer4,
The issues I have is No drivers for Aja ioHD so I cant test FCP X to see how it works. When I return to my FCP version 6 it just does not run like it used to and keeps hanging the Aja ioHD so I have to keep refreshing. My motion projects on the FCP timeline now do not open in the old version of motion so I cant round robin as before. My main disc does not have enough space to run FCP X projects and a post on Apple forum said to run FCP X and Motion on a new partition if  you still need to use FCP 6. As I have a Raid card with enough space, If I created a partition on it for fcp X and Motion 5 would FCP 6 work properly again.
I could not see how to create a partition on the Raid drive?

  • RE: Is there a way to have 2 network cards on the samemachine

    Sean,
I mean I am always connecting to the nodemgr of the 2nd environment
successfully. Only when I run the client part of the application that I know
is up, I get a response from the Name Server that it is actually the first
    IP address.
I checked again. I defenitely have FORTE_NS_ADDRESS set to IP:5004, in my
case, and not the hostname. I don't have FORTE_LOCATIONS set any where. the
NS_ADDRESS for env2 has only 1 IP address associated with it. My Forte
Control Panel on the client, and hence the NS address has only one entry.
I tried going into escript like you said, and the name service still thinks
    it is IP1.

Subject: RE: Is there a way to have 2 network cards on the same
    machine
Hmmmm? That is a little odd! Let me rehash what I think you are saying.
You now have two environments each with their own name service with
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS set to a different IP:Port combination. For example you
    are doing the steps:
    FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=255.255.255.1:5000
start the nodemgr for env 1
    FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=255.255.255.2:5000
start the nodemgr for env 2
Now when you start a client you are always getting the address for env 1
back from the nodemgr. I assume you actually mean the name service? Or, do
you mean you are always connecting to the nodemgr & name service for env
    1?
If the first scenario is the case and you are connecting to the nodemgr
    for
env 2 but getting back IP's for services listening on the card for env 1 I
would ask you what you are setting the FORTE_LOCATIONS value to before you
start each service. If you are not setting it or are using the host name
    it
will register using the IP for the primary network card associated with
    the
machine name and I am again assuming that this is env 1. You need to set
the FORTE_LOCATIONS variable to 255.255.255.2:0 (based on the steps above)
    before starting your services.
If the second scenario is the case I would have you check what the
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS is set to before you start up the client. Once again it
must be the IP:Port combination not host:port combination if you want to
    get
anything other than the primary card.
I would also suggest that you do the following. After everything is up
    and
    running execute the following commands:
    escript -fns "ip for env1":port
    findsub nameservice
    showpart
What you should see is everything currently registered under the name
service. It will have the name and any "locations" (IP and port) that it
    is
registered as listening on. I would look for the nodemgr and see where it
has advertised itself. I would then look for any services you expect to
    be
registered there and also verify where the have advertised themselves. If
there are multiple locations listed for any one service, the client will
    use
the first one in the list.
Do the same for env 2.

    Hello Venkat,
I probably should have mentioned this before. Your are correct. Forteis
doing a host lookup if you are providing a name for examplemachine1:5000.
You can bypass the host lookup by using the actual ip dot addressinstead
for example 255.255.255.255:5000. This way you are taking the name
    service
out od the picture and Forte will use the address provided.

My requirement is that my second card serves as best case performance

    the

I think Forte is doing a host look up and returning the first IP address
    it
finds, as opposed to returning the IP address specified in theenvironment

Subject: RE: Is there a way to have 2 network cards on the same

OK, you ran into one of the issues. That is, if both addresses areknown
    to
the client that is trying to contact the partition it will always usethe
first address in FORTE_LOCATIONS. This is because FORTE_LOCATIONS was
designed more as a failover mechanism. So it will always try the
    first
address in the list and if it succeeds, there is no reason to move onto
    the
    second.
Now, the second issue is that there is currently a problem with theclient
failover to the secondary address in FORTE_LOCATIONS. If the firstentry
fails it is supposed to retry on the second entry. Instead, it
    retries
    the
first entry again. I know that Forte knows about this but I do nothave
    a
    bug number on it.
With that said, lets look at a possible solution for you. If the real
objective here is to have a back up network card available for fail
    over
    on
the same machine, or use one card to advertise outside your firewalland
    one
to use inside, then you will have to contact Forte to determine whenthe
failover problem will be fixed. But, if the objective is to loadbalance
across the network cards you could have the environment manager listenon
both ports and then alternate your server partitions across both
    cards.
    For
    example:
set FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=card1:5000;card2:5000 and then start up the
    environment
    manager
set FORTE_LOCATIONS=card1:0 (the 0 in the port causes the OS to pick a
    port)
    and start partition one
set FORTE_LOCATIONS=card2:0 and start partition two
    and so on....
In this scenario the environment manager will be listening on bothcards
    but
each server will be listening on only one of the two cards. So if a
    request
comes in for partition1 it will go through card one and if it is for
partition two it will go through card two. You could assign your
    partitions
to cards based on expected load.
Well, I am done. I hope this helps!

    Sean,
Thanks for your reply. I tried the approach. I was not very specificin
    my
question. I do need the ability for server applications to listen and
    server
    on both the network cards.
I was succesfully able to make the nodemgr listen on both the cardsand
actually serve requests coming in from both the cards. But, followingyour
advise, I took a cautious step with FORTE_LOCATIONS. Here is what I
    noticed.
I have an application that has 6 partitions in total. I used
    FORTE_LOCATION
to make it listen on 1. Both the cards. 2. Swapped the IP addresses
    for
    both
cards for this application. 3. One card that I want it to listen on. I
    tried
all approaches by exporting the locations variable for just this
application. The nodemgr recieves a request from this pc connected onthe
second card to talk to one of the partitions. The node mgr responds
    with
    a
proxy - with the ip address and socket number of the first card. The
    FORTE_NS_ADDRESS variable looks like this:
    IP1:5002;IP2:5002.
Is it possible atall to resolve my problem, without having a seperate
    environment?

    Venkat,
Actually, it is possible for Forte to listen on more than one IP andport
combination. The first reply to your message was correct. If you
    set
    the
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS to contain multiple entries before starting the
    name
service, it will advertise on both. For Forte servers you use the
FORTE_LOCATIONS env variable to get it to advertise on multipleip:port
    combinations.
We were doing something very similar with another customer I was at
    to
    get
around a firewall. I will warn you that there are some issues with
FORTE_LOCATIONS that may keep that portion from working. However,
    from
reading your note, it appears that all you need is for the nameservice
    to
advertise and listen on multiple ports and that works fine. I justtested
it again for sanity sake and it worked. I ran my test on NT using
    Forte
    3G2.

    Venkat,
Technically yes this is possible, though not in Forte. A nameserver
    can
    only listen on one port.
To implement this scheme you will have to write a proxy service (insome
    language
including perhaps forte) which listens on the well-known port on the
second card, reads requests, then forwards them to the realnameservice
(wkp on the first card), and forwards replies back. This is not
trivial, but some firewall toolkit vendors supply stub code to write
    application specific proxies.

You can bypass the host lookup by using the actual ip dot address instead
for example 255.255.255.255:5000. This way you are taking the name service
out od the picture and Forte will use the address provided.

My requirement is that my second card serves as best case performance
testing piece. This eliminates the network completely. We went one step
ahead and created a new enviromnent for the second card. Whatever I do, the
nodemgr is returning back the IP address of the first card, even though my
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS does not have the first card in the picture any where.
I think Forte is doing a host look up and returning the first IP address it
finds, as opposed to returning the IP address specified in the environment
variable FORTE_NS_ADDRESS. Is there a way to trick it?

Subject: RE: Is there a way to have 2 network cards on the same
    machine
OK, you ran into one of the issues. That is, if both addresses are known
    to
the client that is trying to contact the partition it will always use the
first address in FORTE_LOCATIONS. This is because FORTE_LOCATIONS was
designed more as a failover mechanism. So it will always try the first
address in the list and if it succeeds, there is no reason to move on to
    the
    second.
Now, the second issue is that there is currently a problem with the client
failover to the secondary address in FORTE_LOCATIONS. If the first entry
fails it is supposed to retry on the second entry. Instead, it retries
    the
first entry again. I know that Forte knows about this but I do not have a
    bug number on it.
With that said, lets look at a possible solution for you. If the real
objective here is to have a back up network card available for fail over
    on
the same machine, or use one card to advertise outside your firewall and
    one
to use inside, then you will have to contact Forte to determine when the
failover problem will be fixed. But, if the objective is to load balance
across the network cards you could have the environment manager listen on
both ports and then alternate your server partitions across both cards.
    For
    example:
set FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=card1:5000;card2:5000 and then start up the
    environment
    manager
set FORTE_LOCATIONS=card1:0 (the 0 in the port causes the OS to pick a
    port)
    and start partition one
set FORTE_LOCATIONS=card2:0 and start partition two
    and so on....
In this scenario the environment manager will be listening on both cards
    but
each server will be listening on only one of the two cards. So if a
    request
comes in for partition1 it will go through card one and if it is for
partition two it will go through card two. You could assign your
    partitions
to cards based on expected load.
Well, I am done. I hope this helps!

    Sean,
Thanks for your reply. I tried the approach. I was not very specific in
    my
question. I do need the ability for server applications to listen and
    server
    on both the network cards.
I was succesfully able to make the nodemgr listen on both the cards and
actually serve requests coming in from both the cards. But, following your
advise, I took a cautious step with FORTE_LOCATIONS. Here is what I
    noticed.
I have an application that has 6 partitions in total. I used
    FORTE_LOCATION
to make it listen on 1. Both the cards. 2. Swapped the IP addresses for
    both
cards for this application. 3. One card that I want it to listen on. I
    tried
all approaches by exporting the locations variable for just this
application. The nodemgr recieves a request from this pc connected on the
second card to talk to one of the partitions. The node mgr responds with a
proxy - with the ip address and socket number of the first card. The
    FORTE_NS_ADDRESS variable looks like this:
    IP1:5002;IP2:5002.
Is it possible atall to resolve my problem, without having a seperate
    environment?
    Thanks

    Venkat,
Actually, it is possible for Forte to listen on more than one IP andport
combination. The first reply to your message was correct. If you setthe
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS to contain multiple entries before starting the name
service, it will advertise on both. For Forte servers you use the
FORTE_LOCATIONS env variable to get it to advertise on multiple ip:port
    combinations.
We were doing something very similar with another customer I was at toget
around a firewall. I will warn you that there are some issues with
FORTE_LOCATIONS that may keep that portion from working. However, from
reading your note, it appears that all you need is for the name serviceto
advertise and listen on multiple ports and that works fine. I justtested
it again for sanity sake and it worked. I ran my test on NT using Forte
    3G2.

    Venkat,
Technically yes this is possible, though not in Forte. A name server
    can
    only listen on one port.
To implement this scheme you will have to write a proxy service (in some
    language
including perhaps forte) which listens on the well-known port on the
second card, reads requests, then forwards them to the real nameservice
(wkp on the first card), and forwards replies back. This is not
trivial, but some firewall toolkit vendors supply stub code to write
    application specific proxies.

  • Run Windows 8.1 Pro on a SDXC card via VMware Fusion

    Hi everyone,
I'm kinda new to the whole Mac story.
Have been using iPhone and iPad from day one, but never could get myself to go off Windows.
    Well, a few weeks ago I bought myself a 13.3" MBP (Mid 2014 - 11.1 model).
It's the retina one with a 256GB SSD in it.
    Now my question is...
I have a license from work for VMware Fusion 7, and I need some programs to run on Windows.
But I don't wan't to partition my drive and run it via bootcamp, I want to keep my Mac clean.
Does anyone have experience or know if I can run this on a SDXC card?
I would use a 128GB SDXC card with 60MB/s write and 80MB/s read.
Can I stick this SD into the slot, install Windows 8.1 Pro via Fusion on this card and let it run on a decent level?
    Thanks in advance,
    And with best regards,
    Sonicje

Thank you for the fast responds.
I took a look into it and you are right.
The read/write speed is much higher and cheaper.
But, like I said, I'm nog willing to share my drive with Windows.
So I'm going to buy a 64GB USB stick (less than 60 euro) and going to install it on that source.
With 64GB I've some extra space for the futher if I need to work with more Windows only programs.
    Thanks again for the advice!

  • How to How to install ATI Radeon HD2600 driver on bootcamp 3.0 windows 7 partition w/black screen problem

Ok....so i've posted this question in a different way, and i gotten several "scratch the surface" answers from people just saying to install "Ati catalyst", or insert the os x dvd and run set up.exe, and update  to boot camp 3.1 or 3.2...while these all seem like great suggestions, I am finding myself needing more specific direction or "hand holding" so to speak.....here is the MAIN problem...
    The Background/history
I used boot camp (3.0, and i found updates for 3.1 for imac and for windows, but can't find for mac pro, AND they all are ".exe" files which run on windows..which as you'll see is the big part of my problem...So I recently updated my mac pro (with the ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic PCIe card with 10.6.7 from 10.5.8.  I created a single partitioned drive to install windows 7 professional 64 bit.  The download software function didn't work (Thanks, APPLE for that poor level of support) so have to select the option that i have already downloaded, or have other media with the drivers already on it....i restarted with the windows 7 disk in....
The installation of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
So the installation of windows 7 seemed to go flawlessly, was able to use my existing 23" hd apple cinema display (so somehow it has drivers that work with the graphics card, or maybe the motherboard's on board video components) and i select english, and install now, custom, blah, blah, blah...installation causes a few reboots, then restarts ultimately back in os x since that is the default boot os i use on this desk top and have to do the "opt" button to select booting in windows....so when i try restarting in windows, now using the actual boot drive on which i am installing it, it ran through another reboot or two, but then after that, my display goes black....  in the communities, the solution sounds super simple... "go download the ATI catalyst for the black screen problem....windows 7 doesn't have device drivers that work with the ATI radeon hd2600...no problem, just go download and install...."
The problem, re-emphasized :  I cannot even finish the install for windows, because of this driver problem....i cannot see anything....I have tried to reboot in safe mode, and that then seems to invoke whatever basic drivers that do work, likely through the motherboards onboard video vs the actual graphic card, and the screen works and says that it's wanting to complete the installation, so i'm thinking awesome this is gonna work....and then.. "windows installation was not completed and cannot be completed in SAFE MODE, need to restart, blah, blah, blah" pops up...and forces reboot...so Safe Mode allows me to see, but won't allow me to finish the install of windows 7...and without completing the install i can't run (ranther I DONT KNOW HOW TO) any of the various .exe files everyone is telling me are the solutions to my problem...like update 3.1 and 3.2 bootcamp...they're all .exe files?  not sure why, because bootcamp runs in 10.6.7 i thought, but whatever...it needs running Windows to execute...then the ATI radeon hd2600 driver for windows 7 that i downloaded from the site has an installation program that is an .exe file, which needs windows to run...  Does this make sense, why i can't just use these fixes, that seem to be the only fixes out there....so can someone school me step by step here (not just the highlights) of how to update bootcamp, and how to install the ati radeon driver  without having been able to complete the windows 7 installation because the monitor goes and stays black????
This is so very frustrating for the record...and any substantial help "not just go download this..." would be immensely appreciated.
Some other things i've been told to try that i've tried and nothing seems to happen as i'm told it will....
---I've been told to install the osx dvd and run "setup.exe"  - AGAIN...it's an exe file...and 2 - when i put in the os x file it just wants to re install 10.6...so need more help if this is even a real solution to understand how to make it work...
---I've been told to update boot camp to 3.1 and/or 3.2 from 3.0, using Apple Software Update....Well, my software update is saying everything is up to date and there is nothing new to download at all, and when i reverify the bootcamp version it is still only 3.0.2...and again downloading the updates from www.apple.com/support/  for 3.1 and 3.2...all of those are .exe files...need windows to run them...again, refer to the problem described in detail above...
---I've been referred to the black screen on imac early 2011 thread saying it should fix my problem...and reading it it SEEMED like the most promising resolution...it involves creating a boot flash drive for windows 7 and an xml file that sets the imac drivers to auto install during the windows installation..and it got me farther than anything else..but still ultimately ended up in the darned black screen...my assumption is that it's because it's for imac and not mac pro so not ati-radeon specific drivers....ok....that's enough..please...anyone who thinks they can help...your help is desperately needed...thanks so much in advance!

hey Hatter, thanks so much for getting back...so just to be super clear...is there no way to install the drivers using an exe file given my current state? no way to do it with command prompt or something?  if can make work with existing card, i'd prefer it...now when you say it's 'toast' how do you mean?  it works well with the os x partitions and always has...so i'm not sure i follow, just want to be clear...
Now to your point of starting with only the one drive installed...so i would put that bootcamp drive in bay 1 and disconnect the rest...i'm not totally sure what you're suggesting the effect should be of doing this?  just that i'm just installing windows without the bootcamp deal...but if windows 7 doesn't support the ati radeon hd2600, it still will go black screen no? or you're saying it will run video through the motherboard if it's the only bootdrive, and will run all the way through the windows install without trying to switch over to the hd2600?  (slrry flr these questions..just really want to make sure i understand what you're telling me..thanks so much for your patience and help by the way...it's very greatly appreciated...your support is priceless!
So now, assuming none of the above is possible...referring now to the ati 5770 that you referred to...you mention it works with 10.6 well, and that windows 7 supports it ...2 questions on that
         1) Windows 7 supports" meaning, out of the box windows 7 supports it? or will i have to install drivers still through some update, because again, if that's how i have to do it, then won't work, cuz can't start windows to see anything to install any drivers or run any thing at all...so it would have to just work with initial installation.
2)hardware wise for my Mac Pro 3,1...intel dual quad core xeon, blah blah....will this card work? it's a PCIe and should fit on my board no prob, etc?

  • I have an SD card that my husband uses for a trail camera. The camera does not have a delete function for the pics, so I put the SD card in our MAC and we can view the pics but when I go to delete them it says that the files cant be deleted. What can i do

My husband has an SD card he  uses for his trail camera. We put it in our mac book pro and can look at the pictures but when I go to move them to the trash it tells me that the files can't be moved to the trash because they cant be deleted. I have Nikon camera software on my mac and it pics up and asks if you want to import the pics and if you want them deleted from the devices afterwards. I tried that but I get a message afterwards that says that some files were not able to be deleted. When I go to check, none of them were deleted. How can I clean of the SD Card? I do have a camera I could stick it in, it would just be nice to know how to do it from my mac. Also, the files are jpg. if that matters.

AFAIK cameras offer their own built-in format utility for inserted SD cards.  You should use that.  Otherwise, refer to the manual that came with your camera to determine precisely how your SD cards need to be formatted to work properly.  Personally, I'd suggest Partition Scheme: MBR, and Filesystem: FAT32.
Try to limit the number of formats you perform on the SD cards, though, as you're reducing their lifespan.  I believe formatting causes re-writes to a portion of the SD card that has fewer read/write cycles than the rest of the card as a whole.

Try udev. Is your reader OK? Is the card recongized - does it show in dmesg?

  • "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. Form more information, see setup log files"

Ok so back in August 2014 I succuesfully used bootcamp to install Windows 10 Tech preview. It worked great until March of this year when Windows issued an update (Which I had no control over).  After this update the R9 4GB graphics card driver stopped working.  I contacted Apple/AMD/Microsoft but was unable to fix this problem.
So,  I uninstalled Windows 10 through bootcamp and restored the drive to a single partition. I purchased windows 8.1 and downloaded Windows Enterprise edition (as this comes as an ISO file) and started the process again with Bootcamp. Everything works great until I get to the installation of windows.
I did the same as last time (formatted the Bootcamp partition) and tried to continue the installation. I now get the following message:
I have tried a complete reinstall of the system twice (back to factory settings) but still the same issue.  I have also tried using Windows 10 Tech preview but still the same issue. (I only have my remote drive with the ISO file connected to the mac and have tried with a USB stick)
Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks

Thank you for your prompt response.  Please see below:
