SD tax G/L account determination

First, I am not a Finance person nor do I know a lot about tax configuration.  My background (relevant for this issue) is in S/D pricing and associated account determination.  This is an S/D tax calculation and account determination issue for the United States.
I am attempting to generate a “use” tax in an internal service order and then to populate the correct G/L account(s) with these tax values.  The service order, which is really just a sales order,  generates a statistical value for the basis and then I have pricing condition types (condition class = “D” (“taxes”), condition category = “D” (“Tax”)) specified in the pricing procedure.  These “tax” condition types are correctly calculating the tax amount.
Normally, to point to the correct G/L account for a pricing condition type, you would configure Account Determination within S/D.  The simplest form would be the usage of the account key.  The account key would be specified in the “AccKey” column and account determination configuration would point this key to the correct G/L account.
I understand (both from my own very recent experience and also from some of the information I have read on the internet) that things might be a little bit different when determining a G/L account for tax.  Originally I specified two different account keys in the pricing procedure for the tax condition types (normally I would have specified just one).  I specified MW1 through MW4 in the account key column for all 4 tax condition types and MWS in the accrual column.  My intent was to update the tax expense account from MW1 – 4 and the tax accrual account from MWS (I realize I might have this backward).
When I created a billing document, SAP would not create the accounting document.  It indicated (from my recollection) that it was missing a tax code for the G/L account for the first tax condition type (“YTX1”).  Cutting through the history, it appears that SAP needs this code to point to the correct G/L account for S/D.  I also learned that there is a tax code field in the tax condition record (VK11) where you specify this code.
I am actually familiar with the configuration and setup for use tax for A/P vendor invoices.  I had to perform this  setup very recently.  In short, I know that the tax code determines what the tax rates will be and also determines the G/L accounts.  I know how to setup a situation for tax accrual (this is setup found in tax code U1).
My questions are the following:
1) Is it true that I have to use the tax code to determine the G/L accounts for taxes generated in an S/D pricing procedure?  Is it possible I am doing something wrong in the S/D account determination (at the moment, not quite sure what this would have been)?
2) Is it possible that I am adversely affecting account determination by specifying an account key in the accrual column of the pricing procedure for the tax pricing condition types?
3) If we do have to specify a tax code in the tax pricing condition records in order to use the FI tax procedure to point to the correct G/L account, do we also specify the tax rates in this FI tax code or do we still specify them in the S/D tax pricing condition records?  It does not make sense to have to specify these rates twice.  In short, what does SAP actually use for tax calculation?
Thanks a lot – Ed Seigler

Hello Edward,
The tax code represents a tax category which must be taken into consideration when making a tax return to the tax authorities.
Tax codes are unique per country. The tax rate calculation rules and further features are stored in a table for each tax code.
SAP supplies a tax calculation procedure for each country. The procedure comprises a list of all common tax types with rules for tax calculation.
You have to define a separate  tax on sales/purchases code for each country in which one of your company codes is located. Each code contains one or more tax rates for the different tax types.
Tax codes are actually configured in FI, but they play a significant role while creating tax condition records for a particular condition type.
Account keys in the account determination procedure connect the condition types to the relevant GL accounts. It doesnt have any impact on tax calculation. Its a procedure that is purely used to map GL accounts to the condition types.
Finally, i would suggest you to check at the condition record level, whether you have assigned the correct tax code to the appropriate condition type to rectify the error.

  • General question on Tax Account Codes on "G/L Account Determination"

Hi, just wondering, when do the accounts on TAX Tab on G/L Account Determination get filled in?
Are they supposed to be filled in (determined)?
Of course I have Tax codes Admin->Setup->Financials->Tax->Sales Tax Codes that work.  Yet wondering why there is nothing in Tax Tab of G/l Account Determination?
It is not even present in US or Canadian Demo companies?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I believe these tabs are only for certain localizations. They are not applied to Canada or USA.
    Thanks,

    Thank u in advance
    Regards
    Anjan

    Dear Anjan,
For Tax Conditions you have to maintain Account Determination in OB40
    Go to T-Code OB40
Select the Transaction - EXD - & Double click on it...
    Mention required GL Account here...
Your problem would definitely get solved.
    Hope this helps...

  • Abt account determination

I want to know how does the automatic account determination takes place in MIRO,everytime how system picks
    Vendor account(credit)
    GR/IR(DEBIT)
In MIGO it depends on movement type and all other things,
but in MIRO there is no mvt type.
    pls let me know asap

    Unplanned delivery costs (UPF)
Unplanned delivery costs are delivery costs (incidental procurement
costs) that were not planned in a purchase order (e.g. freight,
customs duty). In the SAP posting transaction in Logistics Invoice
Verification, instead of distributing these unplanned delivery costs
among all invoice items as hitherto, you have the option of posting
them to a special account. A separate tax code can be used for this
    account.
If the above setting is not done and you have std price than it will post to the price diff account and fi you hae MAP then based it will post the mateiral account

    Hi,
    Check the following:
    1.  In the line item of SD, which is the Acct key is appearing.
    2.  In the same item, check the tax code.
After getting the above input, Check table T030K for the combination whether GL Account is specified.
You need to jointly take help of SD.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error in :Posting keys for account determination

    Hi, Gurus,
please suggest the solution for the following problem.
we are selling two  types of materials, one is the  product material and the second one is the scrap material.Different type pricing procedures, sale order, delivery and billing types were configured for the same. For CST and VAT   same condition type  :"ZCST - for CST " and  ZVAT - for VAT" were used in both pricing procedure and the standard account keys : MW1 for ZCST and MWS for ZVAT  and  same G/L accounts configured .
.                                                   key combination for the condition types as mentioned below:
    .                                                        ZCST:  Country/PlntRegion/Region/TaxCl2Cust/TaxCl.2Mat
                                                             ZVAT: Country/PlntRegion/Region/TaxCl1Cust/TaxCl.Mat
Now we want to capture  CST and VAT seperately for both the materails. For that two new account keys created and incorporated the same in scrap pricing procedure and  and new  G/Ls created and assigned .Now the system is throwing  following error while while releasing the billing document to accounting document.
Posting keys for account determination for transaction Z48 do not exist
    Message no. F5598
here Z48 is the new accounting key created for  the  CST tax.We tried all the possibilities, but system is throwing the same error.
    with regards
    sam

Thank u for ur response. Now it is solved when OB40 and OBCN maintained. Here I am facing a new problem.pl. provide the solution.we configured twoseperate  pricing procedures for our product and scrap material. We have configured same condition types for VAT(ie.condition type:ZVAT) and CST(cond type:ZCST), in both pricing procedures. Now We want to maintain  seperate condition types for VAT and CST for pricing procedure for Product material and Scrap material. I have created two new condition types for scrap sales ZSCT- cst for scrap and ZSVT-vat for scrap by copying the same from existing conditions ZCST & ZVAT, and the same is included in the scrap pricing procedure. And also maintained OB40,OBCN,OVK1,OVK3,OVK4, FTXP,FV11 and VK11.
now I am facing the following problems.
    1. while creating the Material master & customer master, in tax category sub screen all conditions i.e. conditions defined for  product material( ZCST,ZVAT) and defined for scrap material (ZSCT, ZSVT) displaying and these are compulsory fields.
    2. While creating the sale order for scrap material, system is considering the TAX classes from ZVAT/ ZCST (defined for product material) and taking the condition value from the condition type ZSVT/ ZSCT with the TAX class values of  ZVAT/ZCST.
Now I would like to know is there any procedure  to assign the Material type and Customer group to Tax category.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Cost of Goods Sold account determination by customer type (inter-company)

We have a business need to separate the the cost of goods sold be customer type.  Specifically separating the inter-company cost of goods sold from the 3rd party cost of goods sold.
The standard COGS account determination in GBB/VAX only allows for differentiating between material valuation class.
Has anyone attempted this before and what method worked?

For those who may need an answer to this, our solution was the following:
    1)       Created new types for SO, SO Item, Sched. Line, Delivery, Delivery Item, Billing type
    2)       Created new Pricing procedure
    3)       Created new movement type Y61/Y62 modeled after 601/602
    4)       Mapped Y61/Y62 to account modifier ZAX.
    5)       Mapped GBB/ZAX to the new account.
Benefits, they now have better view of the orders going inter-company.  It is flexible enough to adjusting prices for intercompany separate from standard orders, even though for now it is a straight copy of cost.  They are able to remove the sales/use tax, from the calculations. They are able to plan with these orders separated out.  Plus, this will standardize their process for inter-company.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Cheers!
    Rick

  • Reg.Error in account determination: table T030K key NCCA EXD

    Dear Friends
we are doing domestic sales for that I am doing pricing procedure, I create 5 condition types without access sequence, and I manualy enter all the mrp price, mrp discount, bed, eces, shec and cst in billing,  during the billing release I am getting the error
"  Error in account determination: table T030K key NCCA EXD" Diagnosis In the chart of accounts to be posted to, no accounts are defined for the tax code you used. "  in VKOA  I maintained the account key ERL,MWS and EXD,and also in OBCN and OB40 but I am getting the same error.
do I need to create separate procure for pricing ? or can I use the same procedure which in SD.
do I need to change the TAXINJ and put the EXD there ? I am unable to solve this problem. Please help me .
    Thanks
    Rajakumar.K

FYI, as per SD pricing for tax condition type is concern, it doesn't require tax procedures to be maintain.
Tax % with correspondingly tax codes are maintain & determine from Condition record in to the pricing of sales doc.
These kind of error occurs due to non determination or missing tax code in sales doc pricing.
In turn, raises error due to accounting interface.
So, as per best practices, tax condition type are determined through condition record in sales document.
Thus, you ought to have access sequence for tax condition type & should create condition record with respective TAX % & Tax code. By, manually processing tax values into pricing, you will be able to maintain tax %, but without TAX CODE.
I hope this can assist you.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Error in account determination: table T030K key 1000 MW1 Message no. FF709

    Dear Gurus
We have activate automatic release to account at VF01 level. For one billing doc system is giving us error
Error in account determination: table T030K key 1000 MW1Message no. FF709
At Environment -> Act determination analysis  here the system is not giving any error. But accounting entries are not there and Excise accounting entries are generated and showing there.
When we check at header level Header tab Accounting data block Posting status system is showing Error in Accounting Interface.
We have assign MW1 accounting key for CST condition Type.
Assignment in VKOA is also done.
In OB40 tax code and the GL is also done.
    Reetesh NIgam

    hello, friend.
when you configure account determination, you assign not only account assignment groups (customer, material) to GL accounts, you also need to make assignments for taxes, represented in SAP default by the posting key MWS.
an example assignment in account determination, procedure 5 (General) would be as follow:
    Applic/Ty/Chart of Accts/Sales Org/Act Asg Grp/Act Asg Grp/Account key/GL accounts
    V   KOFI   INT   1000   01   01   ERL   xxxxxx
    V   KOFI   INT   1000   01   01   ERS   xxxxxx
    V   KOFI   INT   1000   01   01   ERF   xxxxxx
    V   KOFI   INT   1000   01   01   MWS   xxxxxx
please check if your tax condition type/s are included in your pricing procedure and have been defined in FI.
    regards.

    Hiya
If you GL account istax specific, then do the below:
In Account assignment for Tax postings - please check whether you have maintained an account
Go to OB40 --> Input ur chart of accounts --> check for the Transaction MWS, with Description of 'Output Tax'  --> Assign a GL account to this
If you GL account is NOT tax specific, in FS00 for the GL account, under the control tab in GL master - take out the entry from the field 'Tax Category' and leave it blank
    Hope this helps ya
