SDRAM test reinstallation

I had to do an SDRAM test on my Ipod, which passed.  However, when I try to reset, it won't happen.  I tried toggling the hold switch, and then resetting, pushing the Menu and center button for over 6 seconds, again with no luck.  How can I get it started without having to do a reinstall?  Or, if I have to do a reinstall, how do I backup all my data beforehand?
Thanks - Caroline Pyne

  • Won't reset after passing SDRAM Test??

I turned my IPOD on lastnight and found it performing a SDRAM Test. According to the results, the blinking my IPOD is doing apparently means I passed the test. However it is frozen there. I have attempted to reset it by pressing the select and menu keys to no prevail. I have plugged it inot my computer, but my computer didn't recognize it.
Is it broken??? Please help. I love my IPOD

my ipod is doing the SDRAM full test, and the BL is on, showing that it is running..should i just leave it? I've tried pressing the buttons but nothing happens, and also, the comp doesnt recognise it when i plug it in.
when you disconnected your battery did you lose all your songs and movies?
    thanks

  • SDRAM test - Reset to continue

But I cant re-set it My 30gb iPod is flashing the above test for the last 24 hours. Does not show in Itunes and I cannot get it to turn off, on or any other movement. I see 2 other people are having the same problem, but NO ANSWERS!! Can anyone help me please? many thanks.

    Hey karenj37
Try putting the iPod in Disk Mode; the first article will help with that process. After that then go through the process of restoring the iPod to get it back to a factory default and then you should be able to use it like normal again.

  • Is my ipod hard drive dead?

since yesterday i have been having problem restoring my ipod.
when i restore my ipod through itune the restore goes somewhat fine ipod reboots, apple with progress bar then the plain apple logo and it stays there for 5-10 min and goes to do not disconnect and does not appear in itunes.
at this point i use windows to safely remove the ipod after which it takes about another min for the ipod to pull up the language selection screen.
then when i plug it back in it takes around another 5 min to show up in itunes (does'nt matter is itunes is open or closed) or itune may not open at all but the ipod still appears in My Computer.
when he ipod does finally appear in itunes i get the name screen like normal and i go though setting what music to sync like always but during the sync i get a -69 error.
to note my mp3s are all good and it doesn't fail at any consistent point. fails to sync at random intervals.
overall the ipod operates very slowly and i can't sync to it at all.
my guess is the hard drive is dead/dying.
i have done every re-install, file removal, and reset trick i could find including putting the ipod into disk mode. nothing works
    NOTES:
iPod is 5th gen with video 30GB 2006 ver. (also when i got it)
    no warranty anymore.
what i want to know is if my ipod needs repair and how much it will cost

well i am pretty sure the hard drive is dead.
my disk checks indicate alot of bad sectors.
so does anyone know how much a repair will cost?
i really like this 30GB the new classic models start at 80GB and cost $250 which is too expensive and i have no need for such space. my entire collection only spans between 7-8GB and i don't even keep a third of that on my ipod right now its only 271 songs. however 30GB offered plenty of future expansion room so thats why i got it.
so does anyone have any info?
NOTE: i am also curious about the SDRAM test output in my last post. could there be another problem with me ipod too?

  • IPOD Video 30GB does not fully charge

My 5th Generation Video Ipod is 3 years old.
A few months ago it stopped fully charging. The unit would say it was charging whether plugged into a computer USB or docked on an IHome. However, when the unit was removed the battery would be 1/4 to 1/2 charged and immediately drop into the red zone.
I bought a new battery and replaced the old with a new thinking it was a battery problem. The problem still exists.
I went into diagnostics mode today and everything passes, except my Full SDRam test fails.
    Run: BL On
    PASS: BL Blink
    Fail: BL Off.
This unit will sync with any pc, play on the Ihome, play on the accessory device for the auto. The only thing it will not do is fully charge the battery.
Can the SDRam really be bad? If so, can the SDRam only affect the battery charging?

  • IPod battery behaving strangly

I've had my fifth gen 30 gig for around close to three years now, and I've recently been encountering a problem with battery life.
Essentially, the battery life has decreased to around one to two hours listening time, after which the iPod says it needs to be connected to a computer to be recharged. The thing is that the battery life icon on the UI of the iPod displays at least half to three-quarters of battery power left.
I'm leaning towards the battery simply dying, but are these the usual symptoms for that kind of hardware fault? Otherwise I'm thinking it might be a dodgy firmware update. Ever since I upgraded iTunes to version 7 and updated the iPod to the latest firmware I've been having problems non-stop. With the recent iTunes update the syncing issue I was having has been fixed, but now I'm left with this problem.
Has anyone else had any experience with these kind of symptoms and, if so, was there anything you could do about it?

I am having a similar issue with my 5th Generation Ipod. I bought this for Xmas in 2006, so its 3 years old.
A few months ago it stopped fully charging. The unit would say it was chargine whether plugged into a computer USB or docked on an IHome. However, when the unit was removed the battery would be 1/4 to 1/2 charged and immediately drop into the red zone.

  • Ipod now Unreadable - Plus Error 1418 nightmare!!!!

    Hi,
I have a 30gb Video Ipod (not the shuffle as most people assoc. with this problem have)
My ipod recently dies on me and gave me the dreaded - needs restoring - plug into Itunes screen.
I duly did this and accepted that my music would be wiped! Then it wouldnt restore, giving me the infamous 1418 error.
    I have tried almost everything;
Changing the ipods drive letter (from H: to Z:)
    Changing the DLLs
The article about USB ports etc
    the 5R's
formatting in disk mode (doesnt complete).
Unistalled Itunes / Ipod software, reinstalled, also tried using old versions of Itunes from Oldapps.com etc etc.
Now, the Ipod is unreadable and wont even show up in Disk Management.
Its 13 months old and im really really unhappy with this, is there anything else I can do - please dont point me to the two articles that I keep reading (about the DLLs and the USB changing).
Im sure I can get it working, just need to know how.
I see that the shuffle has been given a reset utility, why isnt there one for the Video Ipod???

    Hi, yes I tried that article - it doesnt work. I found an article yesterday about putting the ipod into diagnostics, here are the results;

  • SDRAM in full test

This morning I turned on my iPod . The top of the screen is black and says SDRAM Full Test. The rest of the screen says "Please wait... RUN: BL on PASS: BL blink FAIL: BL off. Reset to continue. I purchase this in 2006 is really old but this is only the second time in years this happen and the first time was in 2006.
I have toggle on and off. I also have follow direction to push on center wheel and menu for 10 seconds with no luck. I can not tell if it is charged. I also plug into the computer and it is not recognized. I also have a old Mac Pro 10. 4 so can't download Itunes.
I have been thinking about a new lap top maybe I need to retire all my old stuff but it works for me.
I have tried to reset my iPod numerous times, and even looked on this site to make sure I was doing it right, and it will not respond. I even tried to connect it to my computer and nothing happened. I left my iPod at home hoping maybe the battery would die, and it has been on for several hours and will not come off this screen. I don't know how I got to this screen or how to get rid of it. Can someone please help me?

A Reset is what you need to do.  Sounds like you tried already, but be sure to do it precisely as described in this document

  • Ipod classic flashing SDRAM full test - I need help

    Hi All,
Glad I found this site. I have 2 Ipods and having trouble with my Ipod Classic (30 GB). I had charged it up, turned it off and locked it. I unlocked it today
and probably pushed the centre button, and the menu and the play to get it started. Anyway, it is now flashing this message:
    SDRAM Full Test
    please wait...
    RUN: DB on
    PASS: BL blink
    FAIL: BL off
    Reset to continue.
The whole thing seem to be frozen; I can't get it to do anything but flash this message. What does it mean? I don't want to reset and loose everything, as I'm kind of using it as a back up for pics I took off my computer, etc. Can Someone please help me with this? Thanks for any advice, Carolfromtoronto

found the answer! - posted in 2010 from Bryan: hold the centre and menu buttons down at the same time for about 15 seconds. Had to do it about 3 times until the apple icon comes up and then its ok. Thank you.
Now to update my 'stuff'. I love this board! Thanks.

  • SDRAM Full Test

I went to diagnostic mode and am doing the SDRAM Full Test but the screen says Please wait... then RUN: BL on then PASS BL blink and then FAIL BL off and then says Reset to continue. Do i just leave it like that till it does something? Will this burn into the screen?

Did you ever receive an answer or figure out the problem? Just turned on my ipod and have the exact same message.

  • SDRAM Full Test on 80gb iPod w/ Video?

Yesterday when I was connecting my FM accessory I got some wierd screen, and then the iPod displayed "SDRAM Full Test Please wait.." which I did, and now it's blinking. According to the screen, blinking means the test was a "pass", but the iPod is frozen. The other message o the screen is "Reset to continue." When connecting it to my pc, the PC doesn't recognize it, and the iPod is just blinking away. I can't reset it. Anyone else have this problem? Any advice?
    pc   Windows XP

FYI, the issue was resolved when the battery ran down. I then charged it back up and everything's been fine since.
Thanks for the replies, but I did both things - holding down the menu & middle button for 10 seconds, sliding the lock key, etc - nothing worked. Only letting it run out of juice seemed to work. Sigh.

My early model ipod will not stop blinking.  The screen says "SDRAM full test; please wait (I've waiting 8 hours) and reset to continue"  I have tried multiple times to reset but nothing has worked.  Any suggestions?

    Hello bgutsy,
Are you able to connect the iPod to iTunes?  If so, try restoring it.  If not, let the iPod's battery completely drain before attempting to use it again.
How were you resetting the iPod?
