Search by a Name using Wildcard

When searching with Step* the customer Stephen will be found.  But, when searching with St* the customer Stephen will be not found.  Why?  What is the solution? and reason?  Can any body pls......

Dear Sh Rik,
Wildcard(*) search is not supported,
However when you use only (*), the systems assumes that you are looking for message raised by all users, so you get all the messages.
Reward for usefull answer,

  • Searching for a record using wildcard or specific

    I have a sql query region. It pulls in all possible fishermen in a given state. The report lists name, license type, license nbr.
    I have been using the following code which allows the users to enter a value in the P10_SEARCH_FIELD and return all rows where either the name, license type and/or license nbr contain all or part of P10_SEARCH_FIELD. This worked perfectly.
    I have now received a request from users to pull back only the record where the license_nbr is the exact of P10_SEARCH_FIELD.
    For example, there are over 100 records where the license number has '863' in it, however only one record where the license is exactly '863'. That is the only one that want to see returned. Yet, if they enter 'FISH' in the search field, they still wish to see all records where FISH is in name and/or license type.
    Is this possible?
    My code currently is:
    SELECT distinct
    "PERMITS"."LICENSE_NBR" "LICENSE_NBR",
    "PERMITS"."LICENSE_TYPE" "LICENSE_TYPE",
    "PERMITS"."PERMIT_ID" "PERMIT_ID",
    "PERMITS"."DEALER_FISH" "DEALER_FISH",
    "PARTICIPANTS"."CORPORATE_NAME" "CORPORATE_NAME",
    "PARTICIPANTS"."LAST_NAME" "last_name",
    "PARTICIPANTS"."FIRST_NAME" "First_name" ,
    "PARTICIPANTS"."PARTICIPANT_ID" "PARTICIPANT_ID",
    decode(permits.iss_agency,'0016','FED',null) Fed
    FROM
    "PERMITS", "PARTICIPANTS"
    where iss_agency = :F200_ISSUING_AGENCY and
    dealer_fish = 'CF' and "PERMITS"."STATUS" = 'ACTIVE' and
    "PERMITS"."PARTICIPANT_ID" = "PARTICIPANTS"."PARTICIPANT_ID"
    and
    instr(upper("PERMIT_ID"),upper(nvl(:P10_SEARCH_FIELD,"PERMIT_ID"))) > 0 or
    instr(upper("LAST_NAME"),upper(nvl(:P10_SEARCH_FIELD,"LAST_NAME"))) > 0 or
    instr(upper("FIRST_NAME"),upper(nvl(:P10_SEARCH_FIELD,"FIRST_NAME"))) > 0 or
    instr(upper("LICENSE_NBR"),upper(nvl(:P10_SEARCH_FIELD,"LICENSE_NBR"))) > 0 or
    instr(upper("LICENSE_TYPE"),upper(nvl(:P10_SEARCH_FIELD,"LICENSE_TYPE"))) > 0 or
    instr(upper("CORPORATE_NAME"),upper(nvl(:P10_SEARCH_FIELD,"CORPORATE_NAME"))) > 0
    order by participants.last_name, participants.first_name, participants.participant_id
    }

    Hi Karen,
    You can try just changing:
    instr(upper("LICENSE_NBR"),upper(nvl(:P10_SEARCH_FIELD,"LICENSE_NBR"))) > 0 orto
    "LICENSE_NBR" = :P10_SEARCH_FIELD orSo, this one is a direct match but all the others remain as wildcards

  • Document search by file name using TREX

    Hello,
    We have implemented searching of documents using TREX. At the moment TREX finds all documents where search term is included BOTH in the file name (title) AND the content of the document. We need to limit the search results only to the documents where the search term is a part of the file name/title and NOT the content.
    I know that searching for the term in the title and content is a standard functionality. Is there any way to limit searching for documents only to the title? Are there any parameters that I could place in the KM Document iView in the property 'query' that will limit searching to the file name?
    We use SAP NW 7.0 SP18.
    Best regards,
    Beata

    Hi Bobu,
    I have followed the suggested solution with the predifined properties - "cm_displayname(/default)" - in a new Search option set and a new Search  Component set containing only two aliases: search_predefined_props and standard_search, but it seems that searching is using the standard_search alias anyway. If I remove it from the search component, I do not have a full-search field for entering the value.

  • Partition name using wildcard

    hi everyone
    is it possible to query a certain partition only the name of the partition is specified with wilcard?
    something like this: select * from table partition(PART_CH_%9);
    comment: the full name of that partition is PART_CH_20121209

    >
    what i'm trying to achive eventually is to query a partition using a variable
    i mean that the partition name is through a variable
    i need that because it is part of an ETL process where all my source tables are partitioned with a date key as described above
    the last execution date is assigned into a variable through the ETL process
    what i want eventually to achieve is to query only the partition where the partition name is one day after the variable's value
    i'm using Data services utilty but that is note important because i use a standart SQL statement for that process
    anyway, what i need should look like this: select * from table partition($variable);
    >
    A query like 'select * from table partition($variable)' won't query the partition that is "one day after the variable's value".
    If the table is partitioned with a date key you don't need to use the partition name or dynamic sql. Just specify the date range you want in the WHERE.
    SELECT * FROM JOB_HISTORY
    WHERE START_DATE >= trunc(TO_DATE(&1, 'mm/dd/yyyy'),'dd')
       and START_DATE < trunc(TO_DATE(&1, 'mm/dd/yyyy'), 'dd') + 1;

  • Searching By Copy Name

    Either I'm on crack, or I'm missing something with regards to creating searches that reference the Copy Name metadata field.  Copy Name appears among searchable metadata fields according to Adobe's online help, yet whatever search method I use (filter, smart collection) there is no joy.  I am using v5.2.
    Suggestions please and thanks?

    Jay Mitchosky wrote:
    I had been looking for the Copy Name field under the metadata items and, not finding it, was referring to All Searchable...  Which I still think is strange that a Copy Name would not show up under that criteria.
    I just tried searching for copy name (using smart collection's "Any Searchable Text" option) and it worked OK. So, I dunno whether Lr bug or operator error - 'nuff jokes about crack .
    Jay Mitchosky wrote:
    I'm curious about the look of your Smart Collection options.  Windows vs. Mac aside you have a pulldown "All of the following are true" right above the Copy Name field that I do not.
    On Windows: Alt-click the '+' (which turns into a '#') - it's the hot tip of all time, smart-collection-wise.
    Probably Option-click on Mac.

  • How to search for files using wildcards * and ?.

    Hi All,
    I've been searching the forum for a couple of hours now and have been unable to find a good example of how to search a directory (Windows OS) for a file using wildcards * and/or ?. Does anyone out there have a good example that they can share with me?
    Thanks

    Hi All,
    First of all I want to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to my question. All of your responses where greatly appreciated.
    I took the example code that was posted by rkconner, thanks rkconner, and modified it to allow me to search for files in a directory that contain * and/or ?. Yes, I said and/or! Meaning that you can use them both in the same file name, example: r??d*.t* would find readme.txt.
    I've posed my complete and thoroughly document code below. I hope it is very helpful to other as I have searched many forums and spent many hours today trying to resolve this problem.

    * File Name: WildcardSearch.java
    * Date: Jan 9, 2004
    * This class will search all files in a directory using the
    * asterisk (*) and/or question mark (?) as wildcards which may be
    * used together in the same file name.  A File [] is returned containing
    * an array of all files found that match the wildcard specifications.
    * Command line example:
    * c:\>java WildcardSearch c:\windows s??t*.ini
    * New sWild: s.{1}.{1}t.*.ini
    * system.ini
    * Command line break down: Java Program = java WildcardSearch
    *                          Search Directory (arg[0]) = C:\Windows
    *                          Files To Search (arg[1]) = s??t*.ini
    * Note:  Some commands will not work from the command line for arg[1]

  • Use wildcard in LDAP search with filter and filter args fails

    Hi,
    I'm writing a function that receives the search filter and the filter arguments and returns the attributes of the found entries but I'm having problems when I pass the wildcard '*' as argument. For example I'm looking for cn=* but instead it looks for cn=\2a (searches for cn containing *).
    I'm using the InitialLdapContext function:
    public NamingEnumeration<SearchResult> search(String name,
    String filterExpr,
    Object[] filterArgs,
    SearchControls cons)
    throws NamingException
    The problem occurs in the class com.sun.jndi.toolkit.dir.SearchFilter format method where it replaces the filter place holders with the filter arguments. There it calls getEncodedStringRep to the arguments and that function returns the wildcard '*' escaped.
    Is it supposed to behave like that? I don't have problems using the search function search(String name, String filterExpr,Object[] filterArgs, SearchControls cons) but I'd like to be able to separate the filter and the filter arguments.

    That's a forum artefact, as the boldface should make obvious.
    My point is that you should specify the wildcard in the filter string, not as an argument. See http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/naming/directory/DirContext.html#search(javax.naming.Name,%20java.lang.String, java.lang.Object[],%20javax.naming.directory.SearchControls). (The forum will break that link too.) The argument asterisk is being escaped in accordance with what it says there. Or maybe you can escape it yourself as an argument as \0x2a.

  • How to search in Pages for any number or any character, using wildcards

    Is it possible in Pages to use wildcards to search for any instance of any number? For example, I want to find all occurrences of any one or two digits followed by a colon, such as 8: or 37:
    If I can't use wildcards, is there any other way to search, other than tediously searching for every instance of 1, every instance of 2, etc.?
    Thanks!

    Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    --=====
    Save the script as a Script: highlight_ digitspluscolon.scpt
    Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.
    Open a Pages word processor document.
    go to the Scripts Menu, choose Pages, then choose "highlight_ digitspluscolon"
    In the text objects, the background of groups of digits
    with a trailing colon will be set to red.

    The Finder's Help explains:
    To make the Script menu appear:
    Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
    Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.

  • Using wildcards in CCM 2.0 search

    Hi experts
    we're using SRM 5.0 (SRM 5.5 Server) with CCM 2.0.
    Is it possible to use wildcards in catalog search?
    Are there any documents about wildcards in CCM ?
    Regards.
    Sven

    Hi
    Yes TREX is mandatory for CCM2.0 (written in the master guide). Please restart the TREX server and retry, if this does not in your case.
    I guess, There are two wildcard characters:
    ? stands for a single character
    stands for a sequence of any combination characters of any length.

    Why does Maverick mail no longer search properly?
    I used to search for a name and it would find it in One or All mailboxes. Now it sometimes works, but mostly not. Any solutions?

    I would like to add that Comcast is my internet provider. Perhaps that is part of the issue although the Connection Doctor confirms the mail box is connecting to the internet. No other function processes when Connection Doctor program is used to find the source of the issue. I have read forum posts but am unable to find a way to get my Apple mail to be delivered to my computer. It worked fine up until I chose to transfer mail to the Cloud. My mail account is a .mac account.
    Still hoping someone out there can help me.

  • Search Annotation by its Name Using Javascript

    Hi
    my requirement is to find the annotation using its Annotation name using Javascript
    i.e by entering the Annotation name in my user interface  created by javascript it should set focus to that particular annotation

    I don't think it's possible to do that exactly. You can search for the annotation, but you can't select it. However, you can switch the document to the page where the annotation is located.

  • Exchange Online Quarantine Search Using Wildcards

    Hey There,
    This page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn567976%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx states at the bottom you can use wildcards to search quarantined messages in EOP but I can't get the commandlet to work. I know the brackets are wrong but even are rectifying
    that issue the code still doesn't work.
    Is it possible to  use wildcards with get-quarantinemessage?
    Hibs Ya Bass!

    Please read full text most carefully.
    Q. Are wildcards supported when searching for quarantined messages? Can I search for quarantined messages for a specific domain?
    A. Wildcards are not supported
    when specifying search criteria in the Exchange admin center. For example, when searching for a sender, you must specify the full email address.
    "Not" usually means "not". if this is not the case please notify.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    Is this the sarcasm forum then?
    It also states that wildcards are not supported when using the Exchange Admin Center. I'm not using the admin center I'm trying to use the powershell code that Microsoft themselves have recommended directly below!
    Hibs Ya Bass!
    No.  The documentation clearly states wildcards re not supported.  Reqd the full text.
    Your issue appears to be a missing character.  Fix that and try again/
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
    So you're saying that wildcards aren't supported then go on to tell me the there's a missing character in the code that clearly uses a wildcard. Which is it?

    Hi Dan,
    I don't think you can use wild cards here.
    Please see the Integration Guide for 9.4. Section: "REST API -> Quick Reference".
    Here you'll find a table of what features are supported for the different resources exposed by the API. In there you will find a row for "All Service Items", and you'll see that: Get All, Sorting, Paging and All Filters are supported; Wildcards Name Search are not...
    When I came accross this same situation, I assumed that I am trying to do a Wildcard Name Search here... and it's not supported. It does, however, work for the other (SI Designer created) columns, which is what I believe the documentation is trying to describe. (Though, personally, I feel this is a bug).
