Search Finder returning no results

Hi there, I'm working on a new iMac with OS Lion. When I type a search term into finder it doesn't bring up any results, even when i know there are files with that name in the folder I'm searching in. Everyone else in my company is having the same problem.  It's only happening when I'm searching for files within a folder on our shared server - if I just search 'this mac' there's no problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never been able to work Find satisfactorily. Apparently some people use it but I lose interest after about the second page of instructions.
Try instead Find any File. It is so much more intuitive, at least to my brain.

  • Search & spotlight return no results

    As the subject states, both search and spotlight return no results. Both appear to search (windmill keeps turning) but they never return any results. Help!

    OK, we need to analyze this one a bit..
    Check and make sure the system rewrote the deleted .plist preference file for Spotlight in your user Library.
    If so, then we need to check some things in the terminal...
    Open the Terminal (located in Utilities subfolder of Applications)
    then type this:
    ls -l
    then in Finder, open your users folder, account subfolder, and then drag the Library folder into the Terminal and drop it.. it should complete the command with the path to your user Library folder and should look similar to this:
    MacName:~ Username$ ls -l /Users/Username/Library/
    Once that's done, just press enter.. it will list out in long form all the subfolders.. I am interested in the line for folder Preferences. It should look like this:
    drwx------ # username username # Date Time Preferences
    Make sure that the line starts with drwx.. if the second third and fourth digit don't have the r w and x in that order, then we have a problem with permissions that will have to be fixed using chmod if Disk Utility can't fix it.
    Without the r, the system can't Read the contents of the directory. Without the w, it can't update any files in the directory (all your prefs). Without the x, it can't execute anything from that directory (no biggy?).. Anyone else want to jump in here and add anything to this?
    To learn how to use chmod, like any shell command, type man commandname like so:
    man chmod
    to exit the manual just type Q and enter.. To exit terminal type exit and enter then quit from the menu.

  • Filter item limits - search not returning any results with large number of elements otherwise ok

    Hi,
    We are working through a problem we've encountered with Azure Search. We are building a filter string based on an "id eq 'xxx' or id eq 'ccc' or id eq 'vvv' etc. The id's are provided in a collection and we loop through, building the string until it's
    ready to apply.
    We are using 2015-02-28 preview at the moment.
    We are encountering a situation where, after approximately 20 id's Azure Search doesn't return any results, nor does it appear to return any error code. I'm pretty sure that the url length is less than 8K.
    Is there any limit on the number of filter elements in a query?

    We followed up offline.
    The symptom in this case was a 200 response with no body. The underlying cause is a URL parsing bug that tries to interpret colons in the query string as the delimiter of a URL scheme (like https:), but with a hard length limit of 1KB. We will work
    on a fix for both the underlying URL parsing issue and the issue that caused it to surface as a body-less 200.
    In the meantime, the workaround is to put colons as close to the beginning of the URL query string as possible. Specifically, putting $filter and facets first, and putting expressions with colons within those first, will mitigate this in most cases.
    Note that the .NET SDK puts $filter and facets near the beginning of the query string by default, so if you're consuming Azure Search you might want to give it a try:

  • Search not returning all results

    I'm having a problem with searching a RAID volume on an G5 Xserve running 10.5.7. It doesn't seem to be returning search results correctly. I've tested it by making folders and searching for them over the course of several days, but haven't been able to find them again by file name. I've tried erasing the index file using the mdutil -E, but it hasn't helped. Any one have any ideas?

  • Search not returning desired result

    I am looking for a message in the Application Server/Portal Applications forum with the title "created new fields in form". I know this is the title because I printed out the message a while back.
    I wanted to go back to it to see if any further posts had been made. When I type the title in the search field, I get some hits, but not the message I am looking for.
    Can someone else try using the above search string and check to see if it gets returned?
    Thanks!

    My wife has been having this same problem for at least 6 months (Leopard and Snow Leopard). I tried the "Rebuild" mailbox option, and I have tried adding/removing the User/Library folder from Spotlight privacy to force a re-index. So far nothing. Does anyone have a clue? My wife uses her Mac for work, and searching through e-mail is a common task of hers. This has made her life extremely difficult.

  • JPA: em.find() returns no result although there is one

    Hi all,
    my JEE application is running on weblogic 10.3, I use eclipseLink 1.1.3 for persisting objects and transactions/entity manager are container managed. In some cases when I try to get an object the find() method of EntityManager returns null although there is an entry in the database. The time elapsed between insert and query is more than a minute (hopefully a commit is done within that period of time). So how could this happen?
    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hello,
    Are you using list or library? If it is library then try with below query:
    SPQuery dQuery = new SPQuery();
    dQuery.ViewAttributes = "Scope=\"RecursiveAll\"";
    dQuery.Query = "<Where>" +
    "<Eq>" +
    "<FieldRef Name=\"FileLeafRef\"/>" +
    "<Value Type=\"Text\">" + fileName + "</Value>" +
    "</Eq>" +
    "</Where>";

  • Search response returning 100 items for all searches

    Hi,
    In ATG 10 Search, I see wierd behavior while displaying the value of FacetSearchTools.searchResponse.
    Case #1 : total no. of products < 100 , responseCount = correct value AND all products displayed by paginating
    Case #2 : total no. of products > 100 , responseCount = 100 AND only 100 products listed in the pagination
    In the below XML total items is 617 but responseCount=100.(Sending the part of XML due to limited characters)
    Any guess on this issue?

    The search server returns the results in the form of groups. You can notice the groupCount value in the xml is set to 100. The value of the groupCount is determined by setting the responseNumberSettings property in the QueryRequest component.
    responseNumberSettings=\
    prop=100,\
    perProp=1,\
    doc=100,\
    perDoc=1
    You can notice here that the value of the doc property is set to 100. It indicates maximum number of document result groups to return. I believe this is the reason why you are only seeing 100 results though the total number of products are more. You can tweak this property in the QueryRequest component and try.

  • Services Registry Search Returns 0 Results

    I'm following the 3 part walkthrough on CE 7.2 and one step is using VC to connect the CreatePurchaseRequest to a backend web service.
    I've exposed the service in ECC, setup the endpoint/service on the Java side for that server, and then published it to the NW CE server. The publish steps return
    "Successfully published service definition with key : "uddi:05c3d3ee-f4e4-11df-cab0-0000001b0b3e" " indicating the server sees and has configured it.
    However, when searching for the service in VC on my dev system, it keeps returning 0 results in the search. I've looked at documentation for hours and can't find the fix - this seems to span many areas of NW. Can anyone advise of where to look or something else to test on the system/client?
    NW WS Navigator can see the endpoint, and I can see the published WS in the NW CE Server. It does have an issue withe a FQDN but other than that tests OK from both systems' WS Nav. Only the NWDS 7.2 SP3 seems to not see it in the Service Repository.
    I have confirmed the same results on a XP SP2 client system, and that I can get the default WS's from the CE server but nothing else.  The search also shows my ECC server as a search option through the CE server.
    Can anyone shed light on this one?
    Thanks

    hi
    check your configuration settings,whether you are connecting to service registry from visual composer or not.
    as you are saying you have published the web service so service registry will show the service when you are connected to it
    Hope it may help

  • Please Help Urgent:Fast Search returning wrong result sets

    Hi All,
    We are facing below issue with fast search.
    Currently in My project  when  we are searching  for a phrase it is returning wrong result sets.
    For example if we search for “Endura”, It is returning documents related to
    Endura  as well as Centura.
    But the expected results are only Endura documents.
    When we look in to the documents we didn’t find the search term (“Endura” ) either inside document content or in its meta data.
    In order to resolve the issue we tried the below steps
    1-
    We manually edited and saved the document, to ensure the appropriate Guid association to metadata.
    2-
    Index reset
    3-
    Full crawl
    But no luck  so far.
    Please help.Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Subrat

    Subrat,
    This may be related to spellchecking or may be synonym. Spellcheck is based on indexed terms.
    The best test would be to run the queries from qrserver (13280) and then look at the spellcheck query transformations. If spellchecking is not doing it, then you must have a synonym setup .Check your keyword/synonyms from the SharePoint side.

  • Search returned no results

    Hi Experts,
    I had configured backend BW 3.5 connection in the EHP1 for CE 7.1. When I opened VC, I can find the BW system name I configured. I am using dedicated application server configuration. However, when I try to search for query or infoset, it showed "search returned no results". The connection test in system landscape was sucessful. What may be the root cause? Do I need to install any support package in BW 3.5 in order to be searched by VC?
    Best Regards

    Previously there was Form based Authentication was done on Moss 2007 site and on SP 2010 we are working on Windows authentication.
    Database showing crawl is working and showing success results as well in SQL table, Its only Not able to show the results on the page.
    Thanks in Advance

    Regards, Dinesh Reddy.

    Don't look at the databases, it's a bad habit to get into and will lead to confusion.
    In search administration are you getting any sucsess messages in the crawl history and is the number of items in your index non-zero?
    If so that implies that the crawl process is working and it's the user security that's the issue.
    To confirm try searching for a file whilst logged in as the crawl account, that should return results.

  • Mac Mail "Search" won't return any results

    Hi,
    Mac Mail- OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    I'm having trouble with the search feature on my Mac Mail. I'm using an IMAP account with: Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk and trash mailboxes. I also have folders under the "On My Mac" section. When I click on a folder, either "Inbox" or a mailbox "On My Mac" and try and search for an email no results are returned even though there should be multiple hits. I see multiple emails from John Doe prior to entering John Doe in the search bar and no results are returned even when I switch the search criteria to either "From", "To" or "Any".
    Also is there any way to search all folders in Mac Mail at once without having to click on each folder and search it individually?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thank you
    T

    First, take all the applicable steps in this support article that you haven't already taken. If the problem isn't solved that way, see below.
    Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.

  • Podcast returns "Your search returned no results" but that wasn't the case yesterday

    Hello Everyone:
    I've been a loyal listener to the 66/40 podcast. It's gone thru some name changes (now it's "66/40 on Oneplace.com") and when I did a search in AppleTV yesterday & today, I got a "Your search returned no results", even though it displays when I search for "66". For weeks now, I've been able to access it. I can access it via the iTunes Store, but no longer on AppleTV. Anyone know why? Any help would be greatly appreeshed.
    Thanks.
