Search form & Insert Function

Is it ok to create a search form and then create an insert
form at the same time.
The search form has obviously been created to search
databases and the insert form is being created to see what users
are searching for.
As a user types in text, it searches the database and also
inserts the search word into the database.

Shane

It seems that you cant combine two forms in the one. Any
ideas on how I could tackle this?

  • Same form for READ/SEARCH/NAVIGATE, INSERT, UPDATE ?

    Hi,
    What would be the best way to have a form based on a table where it would be possible to use the form for : READ/SEARCH/NAVIGATE, INSERT or UPDATE action? Like Oracle Forms...
    I could create a "form based on a table", but it wouldn't have the READ/SEARCH/NAVIGATE possibility.
    Thanks

    A small suggestion.. You might want to review the tutorial for APEX, since it's NOT LIKE Forms... Forms has a constant connection to the server, and thus you write applications that way. When building APEX applications you work in a browser based environment, where your state is stored in a table on the server.
    Try the tutorials, read the books, learn APEX..
    (You can do a search, Write/Insert and Update in APEX Too, just NOT LIKE in Forms with Function buttons to query on a column and such..)

  • HOW TO CREATE A KEYWORD SEARCH FORM

    Hi, I'm creating a image gallery and I'm about 90% complete. One of my  final objectives is to create a keyword search for my image gallery. I  have 4 fields in my DB, (id,image,description,keywords) I want to be  able to enter keywords into the text field  and the images with there  descriptions show up. I already have the  keywords in my mysql, I already know how to use mysql, I just need to learn how to add a search form that pulls keywords from my mysql. THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY CODE so please do not respond with code. I just need a step by step on what type of form to insert, (dynamic text field or text field) what paramaters to pass etc. NO CODE, this whole thing can be done in design veiw.
    For this project I'm using Dreamweaver Cs5, I'm not really an  experienced coder I rely heavily on dreamweaver for my code, I just make  minor tweaks. So if anyone has an answer to my problem please break  down and simplify your answer I'm still a beginner. Thanks in advance.
    ps
    If anyone knows of any other video tutorials of this process please inform me, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.(not php acedemies)

    This is helpfull but I'm still running in to some problems. I believe everything on my search page is correct, I think it's my results page thats giving me issues.  When I view my search page in firefox and type in a keyword in the text field, when the results page loads all I get is the field names of DB table (id,layouts,desription,key_words) instead of the actual data...??
    On my search page in the action box I have my results page "search_results.php". In the method box I have "GET".  On my "search_ruselts.php" page I created a recordset, selected all columns, and filtered "key_words". (im not sure if I filtered correctly) I placed this in a dynamic table. Where did I go wrong?

  • Looking for help to develop data search form

    I have built a SQL Query that produces a data set of
    approximately 60,000 records which includes last_names,
    First_names, ID_numbers, Office_Names, Association_Names, and
    Member_Type fields. I have created a table that displays ten
    records at a time (in alphabetical order by last, first name). I
    want to (1) be able to search for a specific person in the dataset,
    and then once I find him/her, (2) be able to click on their
    ID_Number to select it and then go to another page with their
    ID_Number.
    I have not been able to find documentation on conducting
    searches of datasets. I am using classic ASP for server side
    scripting (though I am brand new at this).
    Any assistance you might be able to provide will be most
    gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks very much,
    Austin

    The search form posts its results to the processor page. The
    processor page
    retrieves those form values from the $_POST array, and uses
    them to
    formulate a new SQL SELECT statement, identical to the old
    one, except with
    the inclusion of the first and last name values from the
    $_POST array in the
    WHERE statement.

  • How To create ADF Search form in JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.0.1

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.0.1 , in which i tried creating an ADF search form that has Find and Execute Buttons.
    I created the same ADF search form using JDeveloper 11g TP3 and TP4 wherein it works fine but not in JDeveloper 11g 11.1.1.0.1.
    Scenario....
    I dragged a read only view object on to the jspx page as ADF Search Form and dragged the same as Read only table.
    After doing this if i run the application the search functionality does not happen .
    ( I click on the find button and enter the condition and then click on the execute button. records does not get filtered based on that condition specified.)
    But when the same steps is done in 11g TP3 and TP4 the search functionalty works fine.
    Can someone suggest me what is the issue.
    Is this a bug in the new release.
    regards
    vinitha

  • ADF UIX Search Form - Is this a bug?

    I created a JDev 9.0.5.2 ADF UIX Search form from the component palette. I ran the page without making any changes. I chose the Find button which displayed the search criteria. I selected the delete button and then the create button, which created 2 blank records (possible bug?) in the search criteria table at the top. I selected one of the blank records and entered search criteria. I chose the submit button which changed the data in the search criteria table as it is supposed to do. I selected the other blank record, entered search criteria and submitted it. Again the data in the search criteria table was changed appropriately. I selected the delete button and the wrong record was deleted (bug?).
    Are these bugs?

    Hello,
    a similar sort of situation is created if you have a Read-only table on a page which drills down to an edit/create input form page. If you enable a create functionality you need to enable some way for the user to back out of the created record and clean up the newly created row. On the detail page (JobsEdit.do) i created a link to a custom event on the master page action (JobsView.do) like this:
    <button text="Cancel" destination="JobsView.do?event=cancelinput"/> In the Data Action class for the JobsView page i have a method defined as follows:
    public void onCancelinput(DataActionContext ctx)
        Row row = ctx.getBindingContainer().getApplicationModule().findViewObject("JobsView1").getCurrentRow();
        row.refresh(row.REFRESH_REMOVE_NEW_ROWS );
    }as a workaround, it sounds like you may need put some manual controls in place to tightly control any newly created rows which have/will not been used. I don't know if this will resolve the deleting wrong record problem...

  • E-commerce - search and compatibility functions

    I'm very new to BC, and trying to create a BC website for a client selling printer toners and cartridges.
    I would like to know which BC functions I would need to use in order to create the following 3 functions:
    1. The ability to search for compatible products via a search form, such as the following link. https://www.cartridgeworld.com/main/
         > I know you can create these forms with Web Apps, however the products need to be e-commrce products as opposed to Web App items. Would I need to integrate the two?
    2. How to create a printer compatibility list by the individual product page, as by the following link. https://www.cartridgeworld.com/product/details/1315.10678-e-erc38krbn/
    3. How to create search filters such as on the left sidebar of the following link: https://www.cartridgeworld.com/product/
    Additional Questions:
    >> Is there a way to add more classification fields in the product details page? And or change the default field label names?
    >> Aside for classifying products through catalogs, is there a way of adding an additional way to sort and classify the products. For example; Under categories I would have the different product companies, however I would also want to classify them as toners or cartridges...
    Thank you!

    When candidate register themselves in Recruiting application, they have two option to set their profile status i.e. 'Locked' and 'Released'.
    Locked - Applicant is inactive or not looking for change. So when recruiter do a search, they won't see 'Locked' profiles.
    Released - Applicant is active or looking for change. So when recruiter do a search, they will see 'Released' profiles.

  • Doubt in WebStyle search form in ADF

    Hi,
    I do have a search form as in the following url.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/screencasts/threesearchpages/threesearchforms_partone.html?_template=/ocom/technology/content/print
    The 'SearchView' has three entity objects in it. One entity is the main table with a primary key. And the other two has the foreign key of the main table and it has multiple records for the same primary key of the main table. So now if I drag and drop this 'SearchView' as a adf search form, the result shows multiple results for the same primary key of the main table as it has multiple occurence in the other two tables.
    So in this scenario, is it possible for me to display the results only from the main table? That is I want to see only one result for the primary key. But at the same time I need other entity objects also in the search view.
    Or can you suggest me any other way to do this? Please help me.
    Thanks,
    Priya.S

    Jan and Steve,
    Thanks so much for the reply. But I am still confused with my case.
    There are three entities.
    1. Bill info (All main info with a request Id as a primary key, with the final status )
    2. Bill status history (Different status history for the same request id)
    3. Bill items (Different items to be billed for the same request id)
    My requirement is that I need to have a search page to find the requests using the request id and other criteria. The result(billInfoviewresult) is a adf table with the request ids which is given with a command link. So using the link, I can navigate to the actual request. This result page should have all the above three entities. i.e. a read and write table for the item entity with the old values and a adf creation form for the 'Status history' so that the user can change the status (the status should be inserted as a new row. The DB should have all the status history from 'new' to 'completed').Everything should be for that particular request id.
    I had a viewobject only for the bill info entity so that the result was a single occurence for a requestid. But I find difficulty in creating a status and item table as it always points to the first record in the data base. And when I manually change the data to set to this particular request, I do get null values. Because of this I wanted to add all these entities into a single viewobject. But getting multiple occurence for the same id in the result.
    Can you please give me any suggestion in building the correct viewobject to acheive this?
    Thanks,
    Priya

  • Hotspot-clicking (Insert function) plus ALV Sorting

    Hi,
    I have a requirement where the ALV display has to be SORTED based on values entered/changed on a certain column. The sort works ok when used with a custom APPEND button for new records (always inserted at the bottom of the list).
    However, it does not work correctly when used with the Hotspot-click (INSERT functionality). It looks like if you CLICK on a particular record onscreen, you are actually addressing the original record in that position before the SORT was effected.
    Is the Hotspot-clicking (Insert functionality) possible with ALV sorting? The ideal solution would be to have the ALV sorted at PBO and also at PAI so that the user can change existing records and add new ones with the sorting being updated everytime ON_DATA_CHANGED is triggered.
    Will appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks!
    Michael

    Hello Michael
    Thanks for further specifying your requirements. I have created the sample variant ZUS_SDN_ALVGRID_HOTSPOT_SORT_1 which contains two differences as compared to its template:
    Replace table VBAK with VBAP (so we have two levels of sorting: VBELN, POSNR)
    Move SET_TABLE_FOR_FIRST_DISPLAY method call into PBO
    When I click on the hotspot (VBELN) a new row entry for the order number is created. The sorting (VBELN, POSNR) is kept even though the new row has been appended to the itab.

  • CANNOT USE "Advanced Custom Search Form For ADF"

    Hi,
    I have tried the application on this old post but it doesnt work on jdev 11g even after migrating.
    Can some body tell me whats wrong and / or post a working application here.
    Need to use this functionality urgently.
    the original post is here.
    http://my.opera.com/dominionspy/blog/2007/02/26/an-advanced-custom-search-form-for-adf
    Any help is really appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply.
    Could you tell me where can i find example implementations of the query model classes.
    they have mentioned it to be found in "For an example implementations of the different model classes for a query, see the classes located in the oracle.adfdemo.view.query.rich package of the ADF Faces sample application."
    Also where can i get the source code for this http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/components/query.jspx
    thanks in advance

  • Starting a Search Form in "Enter Query" mode

    JDev 11.1.1.3 Windows 7 x64
    I have a page flow with 4 fragments - the first is a search form to look up the person.
    I need to enter this form in the "Find Mode (enabled)".
    I have tried using the method of dragging the "Find" from the iterator as the default item and linking it to the first fragment but this has no effect (it still retrieves the first record from the DB).
    I created an invokeaction - (preparemodel) this works for the first time - but not any other (seems to block the execution of the find button).
    I am not sure if this is a bug in 11g - but in my mind (find.execute) seems to indicate that it is doing what it should.
    I am not inserting any data - just retrieving a record.
    Anyone solve this before?

    Hi,
    maybe this will help you

  • Case-insensitive Search with Search Form

    I am using a Search Form with a UIX Page. One of the issue that need to be resolved is to be able to do case-insensitive search for text information stored in some database columns. Please advise me how to implement case_insensitive search with JDeveloper's Search Form.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Qian,
    This article (below) by Steve Muench explains how you can customize Query by example behaviour of ADF BCs and if you really want, how to create your own ViewCriteriaAdapter (but you don't have to go quite that far - luckily :) ).
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2005/02/10.html#a492
    Here is what I did. I implemented the following method in my base view object class (MyBaseViewObject). Note that this code is based on a piece of code that Steve posted on his blog (http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/07/11/implementingAViewCriteriaAdapterToCustomizeQueryByExampleFunctionality.html); originally an example about creating your own ViewCriteriaAdapter.
    Since applyViewCriteria(oracle.jbo.ViewCriteria) is used by the query-by-example mechanism you're able to "intercept" the ViewCriteria on "it's way in". After that the standard ViewCriteria does it's job as ususal and generated the where clause when required.
    public void applyViewCriteria(ViewCriteria vc)
         if( null == vc || vc.size() == 0 ) super.applyViewCriteria(vc);
         ViewCriteriaRow criteriaRow = (ViewCriteriaRow)vc.first();
         StructureDef def = criteriaRow.getStructureDef();
         AttributeDef[] attrs = def.getAttributeDefs();
         System.out.println(getClass().getName() + ": applyViewCriteria()");
         boolean bFirst = true;
         do{
           if(vc.hasNext() && !bFirst) criteriaRow = (ViewCriteriaRow)vc.next();
           criteriaRow.setUpperColumns(true);
           for (int j = 0, attrCt = attrs.length; j < attrCt; j++)
             String criteriaAttrVal = ((String)criteriaRow.getAttribute(j));
             if (criteriaAttrVal != null && !criteriaAttrVal.equals("") && !JboTypeMap.isNumericType(attrs[j].getSQLType()))
              criteriaRow.setAttribute(j,criteriaAttrVal.toUpperCase());
           bFirst=false;
         }while(vc.hasNext());
         super.applyViewCriteria(vc);
    NOTE that doing this makes all your views case insensitive (to vc search) you may want to implement more functionality in your base view object to set whether a view is in case insensitive mode or not.
    ALSO that flag will not be passivated (if I remember correctly - someone correct me if I'm wrong) so you'll have to add that flag to the passivated data.
    Cheers!
    Sacha

  • Search form

    I'm playing around with a search form. It works so far but
    there is one
    problem. If the user doesn't insert a value into the
    textfield all the
    table items are displayed. That is what I would like to
    prevent. So I've
    used that:
    <?php
    $searchfield = isset($_POST['searchfield']) ?
    $_POST['searchfield'] : '';
    if ($searchfield == "" && isset($_POST['submit'])) {
    $error ="Y";
    if ($error == "Y"){
    echo "<h3>Caution</h3>";
    echo "<p><strong>You have to insert at least one
    letter.</strong></p>";
    else {
    ?>
    <form action="result.php" method="get" name="fmsearch"
    id="fmsearch">
    <input name="searchfield" type="text" id="searchfield"
    />
    <input name="submit" type="submit" id="submit"
    value="Search" />
    </form>
    <?php } ?>
    That doesn't work - the results of the select are displayed.
    What should
    I do?

  • ADF 11g: How to implement search form with automatic substring search

    We have ADF search form and result table on the same page. Say, VO that this search form is based upon is famous Employee table from HR schema. What we need is a logic when user enters partial employee first name ie: 'jo'...it should return 'john', johnny, joanne etc...
    just like if user would use wildcard %
    What worked in 10g ADF was something like this:
            AccessServiceImpl svc = (AccessServiceImpl)JSFUtils.EL("#{data.AccessService.dataProvider}");
            BirthViewNewImpl b = svc.getBirthViewNew();
            ViewCriteria vc = b.getViewCriteria();
            String staffId = JSFUtils.getFromSession("staffId").toString();
            String studyId = JSFUtils.getFromSession("studyId").toString();
            if (vc != null) {
                System.out.print("BR " + studyId + " " + staffId + " ");
                AttributeDef[] defs = vc.getViewObject().getAttributeDefs();
                Iterator criteriaRows = vc.iterator();
                while (criteriaRows.hasNext()) {
                    ViewCriteriaRow r = (ViewCriteriaRow)criteriaRows.next();
                    if (r != null) {
                        for (int j = 0, numAttrs = defs.length; j < numAttrs; j++) {
                             if (JboTypeMap.isCharType(defs[j].getSQLType())) {
                                 String val = (String)r.getAttribute(j);
                                 String col = defs[j].getColumnName();
                                 if (val != null) {
                                     System.out.print(col + "=" + val + " ");//just to see what is going on
                 System.out.println("");
            b.searchRecords();//method in VO that executes query
             * This is now very wrong.... Very artificial way to eliminate % from the UI
             if (vc != null) {
                 AttributeDef[] defs = vc.getViewObject().getAttributeDefs();
                 Iterator criteriaRows = vc.iterator();
                 while (criteriaRows.hasNext()) {
                     ViewCriteriaRow r = (ViewCriteriaRow)criteriaRows.next();
                     if (r != null) {
                         for (int j = 0, numAttrs = defs.length; j < numAttrs; j++) {
                             if (JboTypeMap.isCharType(defs[j].getSQLType())) {
                                 String val = (String)r.getAttribute(j);
                                 String col = defs[j].getColumnName();
                                 if (val != null) {
                                     val = val.substring(0,val.length()-1);//return to normal
                                       System.out.println("Column: " + col);
                                       System.out.println("Value: " + val);
                                       r.setAttribute(j,val);
            return null;The problem is for some reason this does not quite work in 11g.
    What is the best practice to achieve this functionality in 11g?

    Or use a catsearch index or a contains index in your query. The will preform much better for large datasets as it doesn't do a full table scan.
    Google for Oracle Text ( http://www.google.de/search?q=%27oracle+text%27+catsearch&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:de:official&client=firefox-a )

  • Menu Insert Function is often Greyed out

    Hi
    New user of numbers and Forum. Have searched this to no avail sorry if inappropriate post.
    Insert>Function submenu is greyed out under all circumstances other than when a blank cell is selected (not even an "=" allowed). This makes it very tedious to construct longer formulars with >1 function in them (ie. most formulars!). Is there something I am missing? This is User friendly software gone too far, not friendly.
    In particular I want to use Insert>Functions>More Functions... inside a formular as I am still migrating from Excel and iWorks memories.
    Cheers

    With iWork you got three PDF Users Guides which are also for you.
    On page 26 of the English one dedicated to Numbers you would find useful explanations.
    You are right, the Insert functions menu item is often greyed but the efficient way to insert a function is not this one.
    It's a button in the toolbar:
