Search in Mail doesn't show results after Migrating

If I search for a word or an adr. in Mail nothing show up. Unless I've just read the mail. Like that newly read email is the only one being searched in ..?
This happened after moving my user account to a new MacPro with Migration Assistant.
(first a clean install of 10.7 on a new disk in bay 1 on the "new" MacPro and updating to 10.7.5 - Starting up from the new disk with my "old" HD in bay 2 on the new machine and using Migration Assistant to move all my data over to the new disk in bay 1)
Same Mac OSX version, but MacPro version from 1.1 to 3.1
Also Spotlight doesn't show results.
Is there a way to make a new "search cache" or whatever that overview file is called ...
Suddenly now, when not getting any search results, I see how much I use search in Mail and Spotlight ... !
Thanks

  • Photo Browser in Mail does not show iPhoto after migration

I've posted in this in the iPhoto '08 thread but I'm thinking this is a Mail issue.
After using the Migration Assistant to move files from my MacBook to my iMac, when in Mail, the "Photo Browser" shows photos from Photo Booth but no longer from iPhoto.
    Ideas? Many thanks!

Have been working with LarryHN in an iPhoto thread. He posted this SOLUTION. Yes!!!

  • Mail Doesn't Recognize Mailboxes After Migration

I just migrated all my data from one Mac Mini to a new one (both running 10.9.1).  Everything appears to have migrated properly, and the new machine is a clone of the old - except for Mail.  When I open the Mail app, instead of displaying the various mailboxes of the pre-migrated computer, the app shows no mailboxes and asks me to create a new account - and when I don't, it quits.  I confirmed that all the mailboxes migrated and are in the right place, and all the accounts are active in System Preferences.  It's as if there was a lockfile telling the application to ignore the mailboxes and act as if it were a freshly installed app.
I suspect I could do it the hard way, recreating accounts and importing mailboxes, but I'd really like to avoid that nightmare.  Any ideas?

    Ernie,
When I clicked on Connection Doctor, the green light for my 2 sub account and the smtp for all 3 accounts comes on immediately. My main account takes several seconds for the green light. I tried "Try again" a couple of times with the same result. I did find the command, under Mailbox, to bring the accounts online. However, I don't understand why they go offline in the first place.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why Mail doesn't show content of emails?

Since some days Apple Mail doesn't show always the content of an e-mail message. In the window at the right hand of the columns with folders and incoming mail and in the fullscreen mode only the headers (To, From, Subject) are visible, not the content (text, images, attachments). If there is an attachment, I can see that by clicking 'show in Quicklook'.
The problem started a couple of days ago. And sometimes Mail shows the content after receiving an e-mail, immediately after a first view no more.
Rebuilding the mailbox doesn't change this.
Thanks for your suggestions to solve this problem.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mail doesn't show windows

Setup my brand new iMac 21.5" with Mountain Lion (10.8.4) today and migrated from old iMac (10.6.8) Time Machine backup. The backup was made today just before the new startup so is absolutely current. Searched here and found many entries but they are all very old so not really relevant.
So once the (about 3 hour) migration had finished I had a new Computer and it all looked just like the old one (apps. and files etc.) I thought it was really simple but maybe I was too hasty...
Launched Mail and was told I needed to import my mail accounts to use this so selected OK (only other choice was cancel which quit the program). When I clicked OK it seemd to launch another copy of Mail, showing a seconf icon in the dock. It went through the process of importing all my old e-mails and then simply displayed nothing. Mail was running but no windows were visible.
Viewing Preferences shows all the migrated accounts correctly. Selecting New Message seems to work but typing an e-mail and sending has no effect. The message dissappears and no new windows appear. So I have no idea if it attempted to send or not but the recipient doesn't receive.
Choosing any other menu option such as 'File/New Viewer Window' or 'Window/Message Viewer' either quits or hangs where 'Force Quit' is the only option. Choosing 'Quit' from the dock doesn't do anything, nor does 'Cmd-Q' either. Quitting when Mail is running only works from the menu.
Looking in the Preferences folder there is NO 'com.apple.mail.plist' file but there is a file called 'com.apple.MailMigratorService.plist'.
Haven't checked everything else yet but most things I have checked seem to be OK, just Mail so far. I'm at a loss so would appreciate any help.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Evolution doesn't show inboxes after update

    Hello,
my Evolution hides the inboxes for 3 of my 5 configured imap accounts after upgrading. These are the related lines from /var/log/pacman.log:
    [2014-06-04 17:36] [PACMAN] upgraded evolution-data-server (3.12.1-2 -> 3.12.2-1)
    [2014-06-04 17:37] [PACMAN] upgraded evolution (3.12.1-1 -> 3.12.2-1)
Subfolders and even my 2 other inboxes are working fine. The filter is set to "all messages" and I have also tried to toggle the offline mode on and off.
Also strange: when I issue a search that does not yield any results, I get a message that no messages were found and that I should try to clear my filters.
When I open a folder with no content I also get a warning - but for this 3 inboxes I really just get a blank list view (the headers are shown).
The only thing that these 3 inboxes have in common are that a GPG key is assigned, but I don't see any difference when I remove it from the configuration (or even recreate the mail account).
I also tried to delete $HOME/.cache/evolution - no difference. When I open evolution from the command line I don't get any output, so nothing obvious here.
Maybe someone had the same problem and solved it already?
    Greetings and thanks in advance,
    Phil

    Hey,
I have the same Problem since the Update. With upgrading Evolution something might gone wrong with our profile. I've deleted all the settings and restored a freshly created backup. The Problem remains the same.
You can work around by going into that "empty" inbox, switch search to all accounts and search something. After some results are showing, you delete your search and Evolution will display your inbox. It happens to me everytime I start it and sometimes when switching back from an another account.
After the upgrade I have several segfaults which I cant exactly reproduce, When it does, the window seems to have a small lag and gets killed. This is not only when switching windows within Evolution (or using the editor), it also happens when switching onto it from a another workspace.
    Greetings.

  • Skype window doesn't show up after logging in

After I log in to Skype I see the icon show up in my task bar but the window doesn't show up and clicking on the icon doesn't do anything.
And the times when the window DOES show up after signing in, it's not responding.
Is there a way to fix this? I have the latest version of Skype and am using Windows 8.1

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit version).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Mail doesn't show new messages

Mail sometimes doesn't show new messages for an IMAP account. The badge in the dock says that there is a new mail but it doesn't show up in the inbox. I'm sure that I didn't just miss it, because, smart mailboxes will not find that new mail as well. When I restart mail, the mail finally shows up in the inbox as well.
Anybody else seeing this and what can I do to resolve that issue?
    Thanks!

I'll bring everyone up to speed on what's been happening with my family accounts. I first suspected Safari, because it seemed to be a local problem, but then, inexplicably, all mobileme mail accounts tied to that family account, which included 4 subaccounts and 1 mail-only account, not only did not work in mail.app, but also failed in other email clients I tested, including clients on Linux. Also, the webmail version was not working well, either.
So, if your problem is isolated to a single computer and just to mail.app, or just with a particular network, then I think the local troubleshooting steps are the way to go.
But, if your problem extends to other platforms, clients, and webmail, then it is likely an issue the engineers at Apple will have to figure out. I found the online chat service for mobileme users to be very helpful in checking through all the 'usual suspects' and after we had pretty much ruled out any of the usual culprits, it was escalated to the engineers, who are working on it now.
They were able to release all the email that had been piling up, but there are still some glitches they are trying to iron out. As an aside, I have been personally managing various mail servers for a dozen years, and am well aware of the difficulties in diagnosing email problems, and it was stumping me, and I have intimate knowledge of Exim and Exchange and various email modules used with mx services.
+While this 'should never happen', it's unrealistic for users to expect it never will. Of all the services provided on the Internet, email, is arguably the most complex service and it's become much more complex in the past few years. In my work, typically 94% of all email traffic hitting the server is filtered out as spam. So, the 6% that is allowed through is the stuff most of us see and are spending time and resources filtering out the 20-40% additional unwanted spam that the host let through because if they tightened it down any further the risk of false positives would become too great. I spend way more time on the mail service aspects of my job than the web services, and mail problems occupy at least 80% of my troubleshooting logs. So, while email seems more 'simple' than the exotic and bandwidth intensive services like video chat, voip, and web2 transactions, compared to the amount of wasted bandwidth and cpu cycles filtering packets, I think email is the number one problem service for most host providers. We tried to depend upon it for mission-critical communications, and it was never designed for that initially, and the spammers are making certain it won't achieve that status at least in the near future. If anything, email is your least dependable Internet service. Combine this with the growing array of user configurations, email clients, forwarding/retrieving/syncing scenarios, and user experience, and you may find yourself uttering a little prayer now and then for the poor email administrators and support personnel.+
[end of sermon - thanx for letting me get that off my chest; I feel better now! I'll feel a lot better when my email is flowing smoothly, but that's out of my hands for now.]

  • Apple mail doesn't show mail content when selected?

I have done nothing new or strange with this application but since a few days ago I couldn't see mail content when I selected the emails.
I can see the new emails It doesn't show their content when I select them. It simply says no message selected.
Also when I double click to open the mail on a new page the application crashes. Any ideas? This is so frustrating!
Btw, I'm using a Macbook Pro.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Mail doesn't show me the e-mail address

Mail should show me the e-mail address, but it doesn't. I mean.. if I receive a mail from a my friend and Mail thinks it's a spam mail, it put it in the spam directory.
I drag and drop it in the inbox mails, but if I do that, the e-mail address and object disappear!
If I click it, I can see the preview of the mail and the email address and object appear again, but if I try to reply to the e-mail, Mail doesn't know (again) the mail address where to send the reply.. so I need to type it by myself. Is it normal?
    Here a screenshot:
    http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3755/mailbugig2.jpg

Oh I see... I'm sorry, iGodess, I should have looked at your screenshot first (I thought you meant something else just by reading), I'm really sorry.
Am I correct: You see the name but not the address in the mailbox viewer (the upper part).
What I see in your screenshot is normal. I'm afraid you can't change that, at least I found no way.
What you see in the mailbox viewer is the name of the sender as you would enter it in Mail.app > Preferences > Accounts > choose one account > Account Information > Full name.
If he wouldn't enter anything there, his eMail address will show in place of the (missing) full name.
Your other problem related to replying with no usable address automatically entered: I guess this doesn't happen with all your messages, correct?
Does it only happen with one friend of yours?
If so he might have defined his Reply-To header wrong, which also could be a cause his messages land in your junk folder: Mail.app thinks "this can't be legitimate".

  • App doesn't show up after it downloads.

I rebooted the iPad but it still doesn't show up. What's the problem?

I just read on another thread that some users can't find IBooks after they download it. A hard reset was recommended. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider, let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
The app may also be on another screen so try swiping from screen to screen and look inside any folders you have as well.
